The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Norm - Reubens sound great, I love em, but haven't had one in many moons. Great cookies too! I'm having Home Run Inn pizza for dinner, their Classic Sausage. Walmart was out of their Meat Lovers last time I was there, but the Classic Sausage is good too. Planning to wash it down with a couple of ice cold Rolling Rocks.
From Friday afternoon until yesterday we picked up 5" of snow, plus a couple more last night. Sitting at around 12" from what i can see on my gauge. My issue of JWO arrived yesterday, so I have Chris' article on his 442. Cool. Pissed because NBC decided that the KC/Dolphins game needed to be on the Peacock sreaming service, So, I didn't see it. I haven't seen the MASH movie in a couple of decades. Been awhile for The Longest Yard as well, all they have on now is the 2000's remake, Not even close!

Sorry you missed the Chiefs/Dolphins game. I think the -4°F temp at game time really helped the Chiefs. I also think they were really ready to play, almost like someone flipped a switch and said "It's the Playoffs, time to get serious!" They looked better than they have all year!
Hi everyone.
Pretty as a picture but cold out. I don't think we've seen the half of it, it's supposed to be colder than a mother next week. Eh, this too shall pass.
Back from the Walmart lunacy. I was planning on changing the oil in the pickup this afternoon, but I might run down to Macon to see a car. Looks like a nice one, it's a little on the high side pricewise, not terrible, we'll see what I can do about it. 96 Oldsmobile Ciera. And most importantly, it's blue.
Off tomorrow so short week. Hope everyone is having a fine Sunday.

Just to show how fickle the Lake effect snow is, I had 12" of snow a couple of hours ago on the ground, while the village of Fruitport, which is about ten miles from me has 18." The drive to work tomorrow should be interesting.
Balmy -1°F at 0700 this morning compared to the -5°F yesterday.
Grandson Gabe's hockey team is playing in the Championship game in their home tournament today at 1230 and I'm going hell or high water!
What about those Detroit Lions! It's great to see them win a playoff game after 30-years of mediocrity. I'm so happy for the fans up there.
Hope ya'll have a great day!

I just measured and we have 4” here in Memphis. If you do the standard southern conversion that’s like 14” in Wisconsin or 20” in Buffalo NY
Very few power outages but as
of now they are still asking for power reduction.
I don’t know anyone here that doesn’t have gas heat or gas fueled radiators, so I’m unsure why electric consumption is a problem. I mean everyone’s AC unit comes on in April and doesn’t turn off until September so if the grid can handle that how is this an issue ?
I split a bunch of wood yesterday and we have a fire going. Both shops are warm and all the cars have antifreeze in them.
The snow we got is light and fluffy unlike the slushy wet ice crap we usually get
stay warm all

Matt - You've definitely got more snow than us up here in St. Louis. Our grass isn't even completely covered, and the roads are completely clear. Be safe if you have to get out. I'm seeing one more day of extreme cold in the forecast and then warming into the high 30's Wednesday.
We’re getting up to 31 Wednesday and not above freezing g until Thursday but nighttime lows of 4 and 5 degrees
My brother is an operating room RN and of course has to be at work. He is thinking about taking his mountain bike in the morning. There’s a rail trail that parallels the interstate right to his hospital.
I’ll have to go in tomorrow too but they will probably let us come late and take our time

Your brother is one tough SOB if he's thinking of biking in this crap, man that's hard-core! Kid's are off school today for MLK Day, and my grandson is playing in the Championship Game of a hockey tournament nearby. His Mom is an RN also and took today off so she could go, his Dad is an iron worker (outdoor construction) and they were given the day off because of the extreme cold. Despite the cold, I'm glad the roads are clear so we can all go without much risk.
Good morning everyone, for a few more minutes.
Slept in this morning, then hit the Awful house. It's nice out, sunny and not too, too cold. Gonna putter around outside this afternoon.
Chris your car is the good luck charm.
Nice having an extra day off. I think I gotta take next Monday off, too.
Okay have a good day everyone.

Mike, you're certainly right there! The car's notoriety has nothing to do with anything I did other than to write and send in the story. I was so glad I had the opportunity to highlight the previous owners' restoration of the car in the story. The Son responsible for helping his Dad restore the car up in Michigan sent me this note after I had sent him the JWO article in softcopy.
"Thanks Chris I appreciate it! I sent it to my brother and he is in tears reading it remembering the hours we all worked on the car together with Dad. I am glad you are enjoying the car, we sold it to the right person."

Jim - Sorry to hear about the loss of your 1st cousin.
Got a call from USGA today. Things are beginning to nudge forward. Marshal volunteers for my Hole 11 must have their scheduling requests submitted to USGA by end of January. USGA then sends to me those volunteer scheduling requests. I have to finalize the Marshal volunteers (Hole 11) scheduling by end of March.

I've been struggling deciding on accommodations for myself during US Open week. A condominium I've stayed at previously was $550 - great price ~30minutes from Pine Needles (US Women's Open). I called to check on accommodations for the same condominium for this years' US Open....$9,000. No, I did not mistype. Not $900...you read it correct $9,000. The US Open is a money sponge. To my point. Just received a call from another Hole Captain who believes he might be able to get me accommodation staying at his sister's place on Pinehurst #3, which is literally walking distance to Pinehurst #2 which is where the US Open is contended. This other guy, Hole Captain, is going to stay in one of his sister's bedroom and they believe they can accommodate me....~$1,225 all seven days (to rent out one bedroom to me). I'm hoping this works out.
Norm - I hope the arrangements with the "Hole Captain" work out for you. Those condo rental prices are obscene!
Cold here, and everywhere. Working from home today. Heat Pump is continually on, strips occasionally. I have moved up from the 60 of my winter away from home setting to my normal 67 over 14 hours. My friends' house is a propane furnace, that thing can throw heat. I do not ever want to have a gas bill; they just sodomize you in the winter, about twice as bad as an all electric home. I may consider, on my next home, or next HVAC system here, to go dual fuel with a heat pump and a propane furnace and have a tank outside. I would like to be able to shut the heat pump down when it is below 20 and simply have a fully functional propane furnace. A propane generator would be nice as well, and plumbing for the stove and an exterior grill would be very nice.
IMO, the housing industry needs to change - dramatically. All new homes should be required to have in-floor radiant water heating/cooling. There are tremendous advantages. They reduce burden to the environment (reduces timber production, maintains soil characteristics/vegetation), greatly reduces HVAC utility bills, reduces gas & electric production. I'll stop there.
And that, boys and girls, is why we inflate tires in a safety cage.
We actually had a tire blow out a couple weeks ago. But a section of the tread opened up, so it just made a lot of noise but didn't really move at all. Made a lot of people jump. Manufacturer's defect I'd say. It did go back to the manufacturer and it will be scrutinized.
I think the high for the day was 38, which I think is what it was this morning when I left for work. It was raining. It was 38 when I got home this afternoon. Sunny. Gonna be cold as a well digger's heal tomorrow morning.
I would love, love to have radiant floor heating. I always thought that if I redid a bathroom I'd put that electric mat under the tile. If I built my own house I'd for sure have it.
Got a good wall guy and robot guy this week. We finished up a little before 2 this afternoon. I hope this is the norm for this week.

I like beyond the press. Lauri has upgraded babes since the last time I watched, too.
Latest issue of Thunder & Lightning is off to the proofers. I took the long weekend off and visited friends, so it needed several hours, still. My friend gave me a couple of paper copies of Journey with Olds, I like reading them for layout and font ideas.
