Infinite Scroll & Related Threads

We are launching a newer way to read ClassicOldsmobile: Infinite Scroll.

Instead of needing to click "Next" in a thread to read additional pages, you will see a layout that automatically loads the next page of a thread as you scroll. We've also updated a few other parts of the layout so they remain easily accessible while you read, including access to thread search, a button to jump to the first unread post, and a Quick Reply box that lets you type a reply while scrolling through the thread content.

We're happy to answer any questions you may have about the new functionality of the site. If you would like to keep the standard thread view with separate pages, or simply want to remove related threads, head to the User CP > Edit Options page and simply disable “Infinite Scroll” or “Related Threads.”

**For users using the mobile template on their phones, I would like to add that the User CP option to disable infinite scroll and related threads does NOT apply to the mobile template.

Please disable these features. The "infinite scroll" is slowing my computer to the extent that the site is nearly unnavigable. Seriously, I will have to join ROP, which I don't want to do, but it has to be better than this. Why, in the modern world of computers, does "upgrade" always translate to "sucks mightily"?

You can disable these features in your user cp.

Every time I access this site on my iPad, and I mean EVERY time and multiple times on the same page, I get a "Tips" or "What's New" pop-up box when I try to scroll down (can't recall the exact name as it frustrated me so badly that I haven't been on this site with a mobile device in weeks). If folks with only a pad are experiencing this, it's likely annoying enough to make them not return to the site.

That's a separate problem, but it should go away once you're logged in.

If you keep seeing them repeatedly while logged in, please PM me.

I have opted out on the change, however, can I ask what the intended purpose of this new feature is suppose to do or enhance on the site ?

It's a move for logged out traffic (usually search visitors) to continue seamlessly reading, and maybe find additional topics that are related.

(Granted, the related threads aren't all that related at the moment, but we're working on improving that in a big way)

Here's a crazy thought - how about asking the membership about enhancements that they would find usefull??? (I don't think you would find something like 'Infinite Scroll' amongst the desired enhancements...... just sayin)

We know it's not for everyone, and that's why it's an individual user setting.

Love it - thank you! Hate old sites that look like they're still from the 90's with "next page" results.

Okay, thanks. I found them and quashed them after a bit of a search. But the site still hesitates when scrolling and is very slow switching from one page to another. It never used to do that, at least not to this extent. What gives?

Photo posting process has been in the works for a few years, just that ClassicOlds wasn't updated to it until recently.

We changed it because of sites like photobucket and imageshack being unreliable to host images indefinitely for a lot of our sites' content, so we needed a stable and reliable host for users to store and use photos--and the only way for us to do that is to move things in-house.

Please explain how to shut off "related threads" in the mobile app. There doesn't seem to be any way to do it and when I switch to the full website and turn the feature off it doesn't save when I switch back to the mobile app. This is on iPhone 7plus.

We are actually recommending users away from the Garage Talk app as we've been investing our resources to the mobile template--which is much more advanced than the mobile app now.

However, there are no plans for us to turn off infinite scroll on the mobile template or the app at this time.
