Mike - Trust me. If one of those, or both, trees were to fall in the direction of the man-cave it would take out the side and roof of the man-cave. The leaning tree began to lean ~1yr ago. During the past month, it has now become fully dependent on the other tree for support - it will not stand upright on its own - that's an issue.

Ray - How are you managing in Florida?

It's early before hurricane season, despite having a HUGE cyclone just offshore the past four days, but for anyone interested here is the official Hurricane Ian synopsis compiled by NOAA (dated 3 April 2023).

I read Starbucks is selling coffee with EVOO so [ not wanting to pay their prices] I decided to give it a try at home. Horrible taste like oily coffee.

While EVOO stands for Extra Virgin Olive Oil it's incorporation into a coffee drink sounds disgusting.
I give you credit for trying new stuff, Jim.

Got the car washed today and the windows done. Took some pictures and it's pretty. Oddly enough nothing leaks not the doors or the windows. I think the trunk leaks because big chunks of weatherstrip are missing. I think this car will reside in the garage. My sister's car is just hiding in there, it might get booted outside with a cover. Or she could come get it and I wouldn't even have to worry about it. Eh, I don't care. She doesn't have any place for it but she doesn't want to get rid of it.

Norm,
Here’s a dog access door recommendation for your kennel ponderings:

https://www.halepetdoor.com

My sister told us about this company, and we have used them in both houses. Very good quality, and the double flaps are very robust.

Beautiful evening. There's still a small amount of light in the sky at 9pm and I love it. Next month it will be really light at 9. I have trouble going to bed when it's light out. It goes back to when I was little. I had to be in bed by 8. My friends were outside playing in the street in front of my house, and I was in bed. It sucked.

Gonna get out the new chainsaw and cut some things down tomorrow. I bought this thing months ago and haven't done anything with it. Tomorrow seems like the perfect time.

I need to trim up several areas, as well. Nothing real serious just too large for loppers. I'll drag out my 445 sometime in the next couple weeks I suspect.

Currently, the house smells like Murphy's. Vacuum in my hand since last Friday I've finally reached the point of hand-washing/cleaning the wood floors w/ Murphy's.

Mike, I can relate. There were 5 kids in my family and Mom had a bath schedule with 30 minutes for each kid that started at 5 pm. After bath you couldn’t go outside. So if you were first in the bath schedule you had to stop playing, go inside, bathe, then watch the baseball game from a window afterwards. That sucked.

In Flanders Fields BY JOHN MCCRAE In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, I In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

FREEDOM, isn't FREE . . . It came at the cost of those who laid down their lives so we might have it, and at the cost of the families who bore the grief of their loss! REMEMBER

Hi everyone.

I wish I was back in the homeland so I could go decorate graves. You know what though, none of my dead met their fate in war. Still, I remember when I was little going with my Grandma to decorate graves on Decoration Day. Actually it was Memorial day because it was in the 70s, but I guess old habits are hard to break. I was just telling a friend of mine that I have Grandma's flag, but I don't put it out anymore. The corner is fraying and I don't want it to get any worse. She got it when the new flags came out. When Hawaii was admitted to the union.

Gonna have some lunch then play with tools of mass destruction. Hope everyone has a good day.

What I think is my grandfather's flag is folded in a flag box here in my office.

Went shooting today with friends. Sighted in a new Ruger Mk IV, confirmed sights work on an old HK P7, and shot two Appleseed Qualifiers. My Marlin 39A needs a lot of help. The better 10-22 shot fine, got a 227 out of 250 and left an easy 15 points on the table through screwups.

Relaxing day here. Beautiful weather. Went for a 2-hour motorcycle ride, no specific destination, just cruising around listening to the local Classic Rock station play their Memorial Day weekend top 500 countdown. Grilled some nice thick and delicious New York Strips for dinner (pic), and later took my wife and the dogs for ice cream. Just a wonderful day!

Hope ya'll had a great one too!

Good morning everyone.

And a good morning it is. Slept well last night, easy start to the day. I have my same wall guy and I thought oh no, but he has been on the stick this morning and we are almost at the point we should be at lunch. So good for us. And we already started the week a day ahead so short week.

Chris the steaks look delish. We were never big grill out people. Heck I don't even have a grill. But I love when someone in the neighborhood is grilling it makes the place smell so good.

My neighbor the hot rodder is already pressing me to get another one of my wrecks going. I don't know if he's genuinely interested in me and my cars or if he sees me as a cash cow. Well I'm certainly not that because I'm tapped out. I would like to get one of the Valiants going.

Okay break time. Hope everyone has a good day.

Thanks Mike! In my book, nothing beats a good steak cooked on a charcoal grill, and you're certainly right about the great smell! Hope you have a great week.

By far my favorite cut is the Porterhouse. A Porterhouse, as you will see in the picture is just a larger T-bone, with the larger part being the larger section of Filet (also called Tenderloin) on the left side of the bone in the comparison picture. The Filet portion is the same as Filet Mignon, it's just still attached to the bone in a Porterhouse. The meat on the right side of the bone in the comparison pics would be called a New York Strip steak if it was detached from the bone.

Meat cuts are somewhat interesting to me. I have cut up many deer and the cuts are somewhat analogous, however, being a deer, it's not cross cut, but goes down the spine. So, the tenderloin is a long piece, and the backstrap is much longer, because they take the whole thing off the bone, whereas the cow is cut with a saw crosscut.

What many folks don't get is different cuts are the same meat, like Chris mentions, so you don't get all those cuts from the same cow. I prefer a ribeye these days.

I cooked ribeye's on the grill up north on Sunday, and was hugely disappointed. Since it is a relatively newer grill, I think maybe it just needs to be seasoned some more before my steaks taste right on it. I think it may have been only the 2nd or 3rd time I used it. Right now, I seem to be on a ribeye kick. The last 5 steaks I have had were all ribeye.

At any rate, it comes down to cost for me. I like to buy in bulk, and thereby save a few coins (I am a financial analyst -- aka CHEAP), and usually purchase a whole loin of sirloins from my preferred store.

Ribeye for me, but I won't balk at a T bone, Porterhouse, or N.Y. strip steak. Filet Mignon is damn tasty, but pricey. Usually, if there is a sale on any of the aforementioned, I'll jump on it. Jim, damn fine dish that you have there. Note to self: buy a new grill. Talked to my insurance agent. They took the general info from me and will turn it into the insurance company, who in turn, will call me in 24-48 hrs.

John - I'm thinking of buying a cheap gas grill too for the times when I don't have the time or want to mess with the charcoal Weber. Stuff tastes better on a charcoal grill in my opinion, but even on a gas grill stuff tastes so much better than under a broiler, and you keep the heat out of the house when it's hot outside.

Good afternoon guys,

After 2-days of grilling, took the lazy man's way out and got take-out pizza tonight from our favorite local chain called Belachinos. An Extra Large (16") Meat Lovers. We were both very hungry and there was only 4 pieces left. Those will be the target of my midnight refrigerator raid.
