Perhaps I should have been poignantly emphatic. Changes in photoperiod (then) based upon Merriam's definition which employs a period of constant length e.g. in this case 24 hours/day.

Jim I really like the Buckhead boys Poem. So many truths, so much of the previous generations spirits have only been left in the souls of the hearts they touched in the lives spent together not even knowing it is happening as we go. And not to forget the same as we go day to day with our best buds and family, If we only knew then what we know now. Make it count.

Ok last from me on Deliverance

The parody was on a radio show "Bob and Tom" years ago and it just popped in my head with all these reminders.... Also dual'n banjo's with Roy Clark on Hee Haw best show ever and always makes a smile on my face when I revisit. Roy Clark is top notch along with the greatest, Chet Atkins, Mark Knopfler and more tops.

Our family routinely watched Rowan & Martin's Laugh In. Mom loved Jonathan Winters. I'll admit, Jonathan was a pretty good comedian. First time I saw Roy was on the Jonathan Winters show. Next thing you know, he's on Hee Haw. Agree w/ you about Chet & Mark. Like someone commented regarding Roy's playing...."put strings on a 2x4 & Roy could turn it into a symphony". Just a brilliant musician.

Jonathan Winters. That guy will make you smile without a word from his mouth. The facial expressions alone tickled the funny bone. A true master of the craft. Thanks for the reminder of him. I know I sound like the old guy stand'n in the yard with my white socks and sandals.... do not care.... proud to say... they don't make'm like that anymore. Now get off my lawn f$%^kR

That's a great point - hadn't much considered it but after your description I fully agree - his facial expressions were awesome.

Jonathon Winters was absolutely out of control and just nuts in the movie It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. I'll watch that movie any time I see it's on just to watch his character. Couple more guys that always cracked me up from the same era were Red Skelton, and the team of Jackie Gleason and Art Carney in the Honeymooners. Man they just don't make shows like that anymore!

Hi guys,

Just plain nasty here, chilly (42°) and wet! Not fit out for man nor beast. I've been a couch potato switching back and forth between college football games. Pretty big upset out in Lawrence, Kansas with them beating previously unbeaten Oklamoma.

Momma's been busy working on her furniture. This morning she just finished a monster dining table, with 2 arm chairs, 4 regular chairs, and a serving buffet. The table has two leaves and is 8' 7" long with both of them in.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend!

Yesterday was the weirdest weather. It was so humid that it felt like it was raining- sometimes it was raining or misting- couldn't really feel it, only time I knew it was raining was glasses got wet. I went out and decided I would take out the boat cover and dock. I started with a hoody type sweat shirt- too hot so went down to flannel shirt- still too hot and got down to T shirt and jeans- still sweat like hell!! Anyway got dock and cover off and pulled up on shore. Beached pontoon in sand and tied to a cement block. Today was cold but beautiful- sunny and clear. Neighbor took my old furd and trailer down to boat landing and I drove boat. Got boat out and pressure washed it- now it's in barn drying out. Tomorrow I'll go over and finish cleaning it and put it away for winter. It is good to get these things done but I always hate the "fall put away".

Hi everyone.

Funny, Walmart doesn't seem so bad when it doesn't hurt walking around. Back to the regular shopping schedule, what fun. At least I don't have to go every day. People used to actually go and buy stuff for the day, and have to go back again the next day, and on and on. Maybe because of the story in the Bible.

Greg I had a fall ritual putting things away. But I was in town so it mainly consisted of the patio furniture. All my yard stuff was electric, and the effort put toward that was in the spring, getting the blades sharpened, etc.

I've never seen Deliverance. I did read that the squeal like a pig thing was all adlibbed by Beatty, it wasn't in the script. I got a big kick out of Jeff Foxworthy years ago during the Olympics. He said I can't believe they will be having the kayak races with men in tight shorts on the same river they filmed Deliverance.

So I got the batteries out of the big truck yesterday and charged them both. But I ran out of time and couldn't put them back in , so I left them on the tailgate of the truck. Today I'm going to charge them a little more and then put them in. Funny, I know plastic battery cases act as insulators, but when I was just learning cars I always heard not to charge a battery sitting on concrete. That goes back to wooden case batteries, but you know what I still don't put batteries on concrete.

Okay Happy Sunday everyone. Tomorrow is work, yuck, and everything being back to normal. I was really liking the being retired bit.

Repeat of yesterday, chilly (43°) and wet, just plain nasty. The only good thing about it is my wife is cooking up a batch of Northern white beans and ham in the crock pot. The house smells wonderful! Later there will be the smell of a big batch of cornbread wafting thru the house. We will eat well tonight. 😋

It was 68°F @ 6:30AM clear crystal blue skies. Played 9 holes @ 8:00AM. At the end of nine I headed to two holes (15 & 18) with bulkheads in the front of the greens. Grabbed my telescopic ball retriever and collect ~150 golf *****; albeit, I'm in the man-cave washing my *****. A diver fished out ***** on this course sometime this summer, so the ***** I found haven't been in water very long. I pay ~$50 to $55/dozen for Titleist ProV1 *****. Say ~$4/ball (roughly). While not all the ***** I found are ProV1 *****, there's a nice mix of Calaway, TaylorMade, Bridgestone, etc. Say each ball is worth ~$3/each...that's a fat $450 worth of *****. Nice morning to fish.

I then played another nine @ 1:20PM.

Chris - As a very rough idea of guys who SCUBA dive for golf ***** on any given golf course they often pull in ~3,000 *****/hole - or thereabouts, depending on the course, hole, etc. So, a typical SCUBA diver can pull in ~12K - 15K golf ***** on one golf course, over roughly a two to three day period of diving. They pay the participating club a certain retribution for each ball but it's not a bad way to spend some sport diving, eh?

EDIT: To give you a rough idea...they'll pay the course ~0.20/ball - for each ball found.

Chris - Thanks. I receive absolutely zero television - none, nada, zilch. I pay for Internet and Roku on my CRT T.V. I haven't paid a television cable provider in over three years - PHUQUE them all.

Funny, Jim. Number 13 fairway on the course/club I just left had same. Left side of fairway was backyards to numerous homes - one kid had the same honor system table set up - not sure if they were separated by manufacturer. But like your friend, I never paid for any & just took what I wanted.

Our discussion makes me think of the far too many numerous times some of the members I'd play with asking themselves just how the hell driving range ***** got all the way to this fairway (13) or any other fairway some distance from the driving range as they'd see a range ball alongside a fairway. I said to each where do you think seven year old to 15 year old kids could find golf ***** to practice with behind the parents or grandparents house on a golf course? Doh!

I'm good with them in the wild, just not my backyard. 30+ years ago, I worked for a company that had an annual four man golf scramble (I Am NOT a golfer), but I did it a couple of years just for the fun & beer. Anyways, they would pair two rookies (like me) with two seasoned golfers, like the co owner of our company, and on a summer morning off we would go. Well, we get to one hole, and the co owner & president slices one into a water hazard. We all watched as he went over to the pond, and removes his shoes and socks and proceeds to wade in. In a few minutes he emerged with a clutch of golfballs, grinning like a kid with his prize. It wasn't like he couldn't afford new golf *****. Ah, the Dutch.

We had gophers (13-line ground squirrels = Ictidomys tridecemlineatus) - capable of tearing up any vegetable garden. What a field day we'd have at certain times getting rid of those buggers - some methods plain cruel, garden hose and shovels manning each of their burrowing holes until they appeared. OK, enough of that. To your point about the guy retrieving his golf ball. Yeah, that's over-the-top. I'll just drop a ball & move on; but, I've played w/ guys who for some peculiar reason relish in the joy of having found "that" ball they hit. Why? Would I remove my shoes & socks enter the water to get "that" golf ball? Hell no. It's a frick'n golf ball.
