Norm I think you're getting too technical. If one person eats a banana, and one person drinks some orange juice, who is ingesting more potassium at that point in time? We're not talking percentages of the potassium vessel. Of course I wouldn't eat a banana on a bet, so why listen to me.
Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike - No hump day for you tomorrow.
Norm, when I started looking at potassium levels in foods several years back, I read that banana's had 4% of the daily requirements for potassium. While reading the lables for bottles of pure O.J. (no blends of other fruit), I found that they contained 12-14% of the daily requirments for potassium, depending on the brand.
If you find the need, I suppose. You did read my post above, right?
Yes, absolutely, I read your post, but I'd rather eat a nice big baked potatoe with butter and sour cream, or a nice baked acorn squash with butter, brown sugar, and a big sausage meatball in the center, than a cup of raisins, dates, or stewed prunes any day. Seems like a no brainer to me, unless you're stopped up!
The total amount of potassium in the adult body is about 45 millimole (mmol)/kg body weight (about 140 g for a 175 pound adult; 1 mmol = 1 milliequivalent [mEq] or 39.1 mg potassium). That's ~5 oz or 1/3 pound of K+/175 pound adult. That's the equivalent of 140,000 mg of K+ in a 175 pound adult body (140 g x 1000mg/g = 140,000 mg). The daily value (DV) is the approximate amount of K+ which is required to replenish the daily amount of K+ which is lost to waste (via perspiration & excrement) & metabolic energy (generally in the form of heat) in order to remain at the optimum daily total amount of potassium of the adult body (140g/175 pound adult). The DV for potassium is 4,700 mg for adults and children age 4 years and older. Note there is a delta between AI & DV - you can look it up for yourself. The average Ice Hockey puck is required to weigh ~5 oz.
--About diets and Potassium, etc, since I brought it up... I have always been a heavy guy, back when I was a kid I had to get the "Husky" size clothes, etc. I tried dieting and nothing seemed to work, hate exercise, etc. Anyway back when I was working I had a CDL to drive a truck, which requires a yearly physical. The Dr. said I was obese and that I would need a sleep study to see if I needed a CPAP machine. I didn't want to get a sleep study so I started on a Adkins type diet, basically very low carb- no bread or potatoes, etc. I lost 40 lbs in 6 months. So I was OK to drive, So now I am retired and of course went back up to my 280-290 weight. Now I am attempting to be a kidney donor cuz my wife needs a kidney or will be going on Dialysis soon. I started the evaluation and found I was too heavy to be a donor, sooo.. I went back on the low carb diet and am now back at about 250, and still working on it. Now I am in the evaluation process with University of Michigan Hospital.
-- Reason I am telling all this is, I think the low carb, high protein diet is causing the problem with leg cramps. I do try to drink a lot of water and I have been eating a banana a day. I love acorn squash but it is high carb. One lady I met said she needed more magnesium! You ever heard of that? She said if she took her magnesium pills cramps went away and if she stopped pills the cramps came back... Well as I said I and going to Dr in a week or so and I will ask. I have noticed drinking alcohol seems to make me have more leg cramps at night. OK enough of that!! How is everyone else doing??
Greg - Thanks for asking. The mechanic I use I've known for 30-years, used to go to church with him. He's honest as the day is long, charges fair rates, and stands by his work, can't get any better than that these days. Plus, his shop is only about 5-miles from me. Only trouble is, because of his fair practices, he has a loyal and substantial clientele. Usually he only has one, or at most two helpers, and is usually backed up as far as how soon he can look at your vehicle. When I dropped it off last Wednesday morning, he told me he probably wouldn't be able to look at it until today. Hoping I'll here from him by the end of the day.
Good morning guys,
I'm riding today with my most regular riding buddy. I don't know where we're going yet, he planned the route. We're not starting until 1000 because it's pretty chilly right now, ~44°. We're going to stop for lunch somewhere and be back home by around 4 or 4:30. Not a long ride, but it will be nice to be out because the weather will be pretty. I'll report on the ride this evening, now I've got to go get ready.
Slow day at work. I walked in at 6 and almost tripped over a huge pump that plant maintenance had taken out of the washer. Why they chose to remove it, walk 15 feet, and drop it right inside the door is anybody's guess. We were slow getting wheels all day. I will say that my wall guy and I did more wheels than anyone, we were shooting for 34, we achieved 30, the other guys were in the low 20s. That may have been by design.
Greg good luck with all that. I hope your wife isn't in pain. I've always been on the bigger side. I've seen the stock I come from, she was portly. My Mom has always cooked good food and lots of it. And I have a treacherous sweet tooth.
Maybe Jamesbo is inundated with families. Or he's set off on a country-wide search for the perfect tractor. He has been back since his company at the lake, yes?
Koda is that in your living room?
Got some stuff to take over to the house. It's beautiful out. And I get to stay out late, stay up late, and sleep in tomorrow. My appointment is 330 in the afternoon. Had I known I was taking the whole day off when I made the appointment I would have likely taken the earlier one. Eh, it will work out just fine the way it is.
Greg, one of the reasons that I mentioned magnesium, is because my doctor told me to start taking it. I hope that you will be able to donate a kidney to your wife, and that it all goes well.

Careful, before I begin a diatribe on ion channels (proton pumps) embedded in cell membranes which shuttle/transport elemental ions such as Mg++ inside &/or outside cells.

I don't know - it's been awhile. Probably too early to consider dragging the lake?
Dan, I missed that you had mentioned Magnesium also, ooops... Well guys, I probably shouldn't have unloaded all that personal stuff, but it is funny how people do that- just look at facebook- all those people baring their souls... Thanks for the well wishes for wife. No she isn't in any pain. Poly Cystic disease is where a person grows cysts in their kidneys. It's not cancer and they don't infect the kidneys but they take up needed space. The cysts don't do what the kidney should do. As cysts get bigger less of good functioning kidney material is left. So after a person gets down to 20% or less kidney function they can be placed on the kidney donor list. She has been at 18% for over a year but last 2 tests were 11%. I am not her blood type so can't donate directly to her. BUT I can be a donor( if I pass my tests) for someone else who may have a donor partner who would be a match for my wife. U of M has a huge donor/recipient department, It's quite amazing.
Good evening guys,
Wonderful ride today! Weather was gorgeous, sunny and a high of 78. We started a little later because it was a chilly this morning, 45 degrees when I left the house at 0915. It's amazing how cold it is on a bike at that temperature and you're going 60 mph. Fortunately I was dressed for it, and dressed in layers, to take some off later in the day.
We rode out west/northwest of St. Louis on the north side of the Missouri river through Missouri wine country. It's very scenic with a wide variety of topography, everything from flat river bottoms to extremely hilly with very winding, twisty roads that are always fun. We had a nice long lunch at a quaint bar & grill that had great burgers and ice cold beer in the little town of Defiance. Got home around 4:45, about 250-miles round trip.
When I got home my wife surprised me with her famous Triple Chocolate Cherry Cake. It's called triple chocolate because it's devils food cake, with chocolate chips in the cake, and chocolate fudge icing. There's cherry pie filling in the cake too, which makes it super moist! It's one of her best. The only cake of hers I like more is her from scratch banana cake with cream cheese icing.
Hope everyone had a great day!

Hm now I'm jonesing for some chocolate cake! That does look good. Once a buddy of mine and me took off on our bikes for Panama City. We rode down one day and rode back the next. Got home fairly late, it was springtime, and the road we were on had lots of hills. Cold as a mother down in the dips. I had on chaps. I felt like a cowboy. All these years later I still have my chaps, haven't worn them, but the bike is long gone.
I just spent the past two hours watching Church Lady clips on Youtube. I laughed so hard. I remember seeing some of them when they were new. The writers must have still been smoking pot while coming up with the ideas for it. Good times, I hadn't seen them in decades.
So look at me, staying up late on a school night. We'll see if Tiger figures it out and we get up at 7 for Awful house. I might try to sneak over to the coffee crew at the airport after Awful house, I need to talk to the finance guy about the neighborhood association.
I don't know Norm, maybe Jamesbo is in the midst of figuring out why that kid wanted an extra 750 to polish the boat. Jamesbo come back!
Okay time for a treat and then I'll do the superior dance off to bed. Queue the monkey, have a good night everyone.
My main man hurt his back so I had to "borrow " some help from the golf course to get things in ship shape
I read John deere is going on strike, so the trickle down affect is the club will get new tractor later and I'm still waiting on one of their used ones
May be a while
of course that gives me more time to enlarge the tractor shed. It's an Ill wind that blows no good
Cane syrup and keyboarks don't do well together
new laptop is on the way
please forgive fat fingers on phone
James - Glad to hear you're ok, despite the loss of your laptop! Hope your main man gets well soon, hard to find good help these days. I did hear about the John Deere strike, and wondered if it might have any impact on your tractor search, it sounds like it already has. I think I need to start thinking about finding a "main man". I was up on an extension ladder 2-stories high on Monday cleaning some mold off my siding and gutters on the north side of my home. I can honestly admit, I was shaky and scared, and did not like it one bit!
James - Cane syrup + keyboard aren't a matched pair. JD going on strike? Interesting, not that it hasn't happened previously; but I'll have to look it up. It seems like a strange time for a company to go on strike in today's economic climate. Off for some pasture pool this morning.
As I suspected, up at 6 to go out, up at 7 just because. I actually tricked Tiger into 20 extra minutes, but that was it he wasn't having it. I always get funny looks when I'm at the Awful house during the week. Too late for the airport, I'll talk to them later.
Jamesbo I hope your main man heals up quick. I heard Deere was going on strike but hadn't heard why. Probably money, it always is. Once upon a time I thought unions were for the working conditions, not to get extra money. I don't remember Norma Rae squawking about vacation time when she was in the picket line.
So, doctor at 330, till then it's packing and cleaning. It's beautiful out, a bit cold. It should warm up because I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow.
Sorry gang, these fat finger jes don't do so good on my phone.
Lab top need to go in Mike's 5 gallon paint can
Tower[ in garage office ] works ok
Mike Do you remember the Jeep trailer I tried to give you. Well I've decide to restore it and add and M 38 A 1 to the front of it. When the planning started to enlarge the tractor shed. 1st thing I had to do clean out /re arrange what was in there. So,I bright the jeep trailer around to the work shop and started cleaning it out and next, I'm gonna repaint it
