Not as big as, but similar to the rebound after WWII. I am retired and wife and I are only living on our nest egg in the stock market which has lost 1/3!! Scary for sure but we can't do anything about it. We will make it thru it friends! If I had some extra $$ out of the market I would put it in now. I think the worst thing one can do is panic and sell low.

James - The only thing which makes any sense to me is the notion people are prepared/preparing to remain sheltered in place for an extended period of time - i.e. self-quarantined to their homes - so as to reduce the amount of time they have to be outdoors interacting with others. So, they'll need essentials such as (1) food and (2) TP. I've actually prepared my freezer food items and some more perishable items so as to remain self sufficient for a modest amount of time. Some perishable items do have a natural longer shelf life than other perishable items - onions do have a very long shelf life, potatoes have a pretty long shelf life, rice you could probably store for a century or longer, meat (?) well, unless you're planning to soak it in pure salt water indefinitely won't have much of a shelf life (unless the really wicked are planning to can it or dry it).

I don't plan to hang around inside any large buildings where people congregate for one very simple reason.

HVAC air exchange. I believe the normal air exchange of a normal residential and most public buildings is ~80:20 (outside:inside) air. This does not account for the rate of exchange, only the type/amount of air. Obviously, if you have a higher rate of exchange you have a higher volume of air being exchanged per unit of time. There are no residential or commercial HVAC systems designed w/ air filters to trap particles the sizes of a virus - you'll only find those inside of a laboratory "hood" containment area. I worked and performed my experiments on PI3K inside of level 1, 2 or 3 BSL chamber containment hoods.

There are 'some' industrial/commercial HVAC systems which an employee can modify the outside:air ratio and the rate of exchange, but they are not the "norm", they are very expensive and costly to maintain.

You want to increase the greatest possibility of getting the greatest number of people sick with a known pathogen in the least amount of time place them all in the same occupied space breathing the same air as those already infected (i.e. a nursing home or cruise ship).

James - There exist primarily three of the world's best blood research facilities: one in France, one in the Nederlands and one in the U.S.A. I worked in the one in the U.S.A. - The Blood Research Institute of the Blood Center of Wisconsin (~15 years) as an Associate Research Scientist. My research involved strictly empirical research eliciting the function of PI3K (Phosphotidylinositol 3-Kinase) - not to find cures for some of the diseases involving PI3K, but strictly to determine how it functions. In addition, I was involved in conducting experiments for other senior researchers - several areas I also made contributions via my research experiments involved HIV CD4 markers, thrombocytopenia, Rheumatoid arthritis, Hepatitis C (short-arm antibody antigen/epitope), blah, blah, blah. Fun stuff man!

Rats! A tournament I was scheduled to play in at another club next Monday has been canceled because of SARS-Cov-2. A tournament at my own club I am scheduled to play in the following weekend is a two day event. Fingers crossed. We have a Board meeting tonight I'll be attending. I'll bet the Board will make a decision regarding tournaments moving forward. Argh.

Hi everyone.

Got in a little while ago and picked up Tiger and I'm in for the duration. I am beat. Today was two days long. I'm glad to see I didn't miss any of the corona mania.

The MOPAR show was the biggest yet. 930 cars. At least double that amount of people. And no one having a fit about anything. It was awesome. Spent a couple days in Sydney after that, it rained the first day but was nice yesterday.

No trouble traveling. Delta is suspending service to Australia starting tomorrow so I got home just under the wire. I texted my lead a couple days ago, he said there's a few changes that he'll fill me in on when I get back Monday. The company is asking for volunteers to take time off without pay. If I had an alternate means of supporting myself I'd do it. With half of our planes being parked I'm guessing the number of wheels we are going to do a day will be rather reduced.

What else. Still raining here. Nothing disturbed while I was gone. Glad to be home. Oh the hotel we stayed at in Sydney was in the middle of Chinatown. Hilarious.

Okay gonna do some catching up and I'll see you all later.

Sounds like a great time, Mike. I wonder why Australia isn't freaking out the way the USA is? They say they hope it all appears we overreacted at the conclusion of this. That will prove all these actions were successful. Well except for our nest egg going down 1/3rd in the last 2 weeks we're not really affected. And as some one said you haven't lost money in the stock market unless you have sold... I dunno... I ordered a Pizza last night at a local place that is mostly a walk in restaurant/buffet/take out. The restaurant part was closed and my take out pizza was the only order. I really feel bad for owners and employees of places like that. I left a $5.00 tip for a $20.00 pizza which I never do on a take out order but I want to help when I can.
I did something completely out of character for me. I bought a 2006 F250 plow truck sight unseen by sealed bid. I saw it on Craigslist asking for sealed bids. There were 4-5 pics of it- a rusty POS. I decided to bid $2178.00 for it and sent the bid thru the US mail to the City Hall of Reed City, Mi. I got a call few days ago saying I was high bid. Now I was worried... But yesterday a buddy and I went to pick it up with tools, tow strap, jumper cables, etc. Didn't need any of that. Except for the rust, it's a really good truck! Started right up and drove it back 60 miles. Drives good- quiet. Only has 59,000 miles on it but beat to **** and real rusty. Most city/utility trucks I've seen get started once in the morning and idle all day when not being driven so who knows how many hours this thing has run... Has a excellent plow on front that works great. So now I think I'll sell the 05 f150 I bought about a year ago and keep this one as a work truck/ beater/ snow plow. The plow is supposed to come off easily to store over the summer. Have a good one Olds friends!!

Hi everyone.

Two servers and the manager at Awful house this morning. Five customers including me while I was there. Everything is off the tables, if you want anything you have to ask for it ketchup, mustard, etc. Next door gas is 1.76. Though I heard it has nothing to do with the virus, it's some oil war between China and Russia. What that has to do with us I have no idea, but I'll take it.

Beautiful out. Pollen a-plenty. Tiger wants to go out all the time and chase the squirrels. He's been locked up and enjoys the freedom. I might do some yardwork this afternoon.

Greg the Australians are about like us when it comes to the virus. Some people think we are causing it because they said over and over on the news some politician got it "right after he returned from the US." And then people said Tom Hanks brought it over with him. Twits.

Okay have a good afternoon everyone, gonna go find something to do.

Our golf course is going to remain open. They have removed all bunker rakes, removed all sand bottles, stated not to remove flags for putting, installed additional hand sanitizers, indicated electric carts should be one person per cart, & closed the lounge (but allow food to be prepared) - take-out. All tournaments (at our club) have been canceled for one month's duration.

Gas here is between $1.66-1.85 gallon. It's a feud between the Saudi's and Russia. So, tonight they asked for voluntary lay offs in my dept., not due to reduced work, but to keep us at least 6' apart while working. So, 14 people took it, and what happens, the women commence to gather in groups of 3-4 and yap all night long. So, much for social distancing. They also took most of the chairs out of the lunchrooms for the same reason. Three chairs per 12' long table. About three quarters through our shift, we get news that a co worker was exposed to someone who tested positive outside of the shop, they sent her home, closed down the women's bathroom, and the hallway where her locker is located, and sanitized the heck out of it.

Well, After 33 years at the same restaurant, The Super model got layed off yesterday. No notice, no conversation, no kiss my cracker a$$

She kinda knew they would close for a while but had hopes of using some of her 4 weeks of vacation pay

Owners say, "Nope" file for unemployment

Labor law question

Is that legal?

Have a great day Olds friends

Good morning everyone.

Day Two of Ghosts at the Awful house. There were a couple more people in there than yesterday at this time but I'm sure they don't do enough business to keep the lights on. Jamesbo that's too bad about the Super Model. How long are they going to be closed? Someone said yesterday that the police drive through the Awful house parking lot and if they see more than 10 people in there they'll close the place. Odd.

Beautiful out and plenty of pollen. Might go over to the shop today and tinker around. Would love to drive down to St. Augustine and see a Valiant, but I don't think I'm going to.

I need to do some painting outside. If I set up a fan on low speed and put it next to what I'm painting, will that keep the pollen off the part and out of the wet paint?

Alrighty, gonna go do something. Have a good day everyone.

Jamesbo, I think that they can lay her off without notice. Usually if a company is going to close permanently, they have to notify the State and Government 30 days prior, but that may be tied into the number of employee's at a given company. A mom & pop operation may not be held to those same standards. Any place that I have been laid off from, there was no warning, even when the one place closed for good, they notified the proper government authorities, but we had no heads up, just a hunch. It is up to her employer as to whether or not they call her back, not obligated to do so in a non union workplace.

I believe these are the only states (24) w/ a requirement to pay for leave accrued when laid off, terminated or resignation:
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island (after one year of employment), Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wyoming—and the District of Columbia have laws regarding payment of accrued vacation time.

Jamesbo I heard from a guy at work, he said the number has been either 100 or 110 each day. I expect that to go way down after we park 600 planes. The lead texted me and said we're going to split and rotating shifts. So on Monday when I go back to work I'll work 2pm to 1030pm, and then the next week I'll work 5am to 130pm. Don't know who all is on my shift but I know who better not be. I actually like second shift. Get a lot done. Years ago when I was on it I was able to drink a lot. That won't be happening this time around.

Norm do you think the Brady Bunch beat their mules when they went down into the Grand Canyon?

Ah you know what this means, I can go to Awful house every morning! So the virus is actually helpful for once.

Ya know,When I was a kid, there was this fancy restaurant named Justine's not too fer from my house, They moved this river house brick by brick and restored the home into a 1st class restaurant. I played an enormous part in the reconstruction by helping worker bees plant Lirope along the drive. The family [from Memphis, ] bought a house behind their restaurant, so they could have a place to stay when in town. Their kid had more money than .he knew what to do with and built a small Yellow Submarine so he could go find the Loch Ness Monster. He would park this thing on a trailer pulled by a Land Rover in front of his parents house.

Only kid in my neighborhood with his own Submarine

Norm Your post [above] made me think back to those days

Mike - I’m surprised the Awful House is open. They allow human beings to sit down and eat inside? Regarding beatings - I’m not sure about that Mike. Sherwood Schwartz is a name you don’t hear often but he made a killing on those two series he created.

Norm the Brady Bunch rode a mule train down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and camped. This is where Bobby befriended an Indian boy and they met his family and learned about their ancient culture. Bobby would smuggle him hot dogs.

So far the Awful house hasn't had to worry about a 10 person limit. They also have take out so people can come get it and take it home. One Awful house even has a drive through. I wonder if they'd consider having delivery, like pizza. I feel bad for the servers. They are getting zilch for tips besides the restaurant not making their daily budget. You know they compare each day with the same day a year ago. Bet those numbers aren't adding up.

Was over at the shop for a little while. Whenever I'd take a step a yellow dust cloud would come up. Yuck. I think I'll go make a big dust cloud. By mowing. Still beautiful out and I dare say close to 80.

Mike - I found it. "Brady Bunch Mule Scene"
I haven't found the hot dog scene - yet.
I didn't watch The Brady Bunch all too munch, both of my younger brothers watched it more than I.
Maureen McCormick (Marcia) was cute to look at though.

Then there probably isn't one of just that scene. When Mr. Brady finds out about the boy they have a heart to heart and Mr. Brady says, you must be pretty hungry. The boy says no I had hot dogs and beans. And then hands Mr. Brady the flashlight.

I will watch the Brady Bunch forever. Funny, it was actually a little before my time. I was barely 7 when it went off the air. I've read that the kids have kept up with each other after all these years. That's incredibly cool. And the adults too while they were still alive.
