John, sounds like a good trip, kinda similar to the last trips I took with our Cutlass, good but a hassle, with rain and road construction, etc... I used to work and live in Lansing but have moved about 100 miles north. I went to Homecoming and sort of wanted to go to the Hurst Olds event as a spectator but didn't make it, wish I had.
Chris, you reminded me of living in the swamp on the Gulf Coast. Hot and humid nearly year round. When I walked outside my glasses would fog from the humidity. 70+ inches of annual rainfall and the grass grew so fast if I didn’t mow twice a week it would be too thick for my push mower. Now I can modulate the grass growth rate by how much water my irrigation system puts down - ya know, since it doesn’t rain here. Sometimes I have gone a month or more without mowing, but it starts looking scraggly.
Kenneth - Everytime I get out of the car I'm immediately blinded by my glasses fogging over bad, a real PIA.
Tomorrow is go over to the old folks home and give them rides. What a great idea. Get some old people into a car that normal people can't get in, and then if there's a problem they can't get out.
Mike - Sounds you had a nice time and some good food. I'm all-in with you on the old folks ride into the lake in which normal folks can barely get in. Very thoughtful, indeed - but....
Thought I'd share my 2022 greater St. Louis and Southern Illinois Car Show and Cruise-Ins spreadsheet just so you could see the number and variety of events we have to choose from around me. My list is composed from 6 different sites that advertise events in our area..
1. The colored rows (with the exception of the very light tan) are recurring monthly ( or sometimes more frequent) cruise-ins.
2. The very light tan rows are upcoming shows I'm considering attending. If a future show does not have the light tan fill, I'm not considering it, usually because there is another one on the same day.
3. The numbers in the 1st column (1-16) identify the events I've had my car out to this year so far, 11 cruise-ins and 5 judged shows.

Ya know that happens because they are cold due to the AC, and the water vapor in the air condenses onto the cold surfaces. I have a trick to prevent that from happening ... don't run the AC. Then your glasses will be the same temperature as the air, and no condensation! There, aren't you happy that I could give you a solution to your problem?

Crap, I thought you were going to give me a real working solution like spitting into a diving mask to keep it from fogging!
Seeing my son learned from me last night.Knows I am German, parents immigrated from Germany to the USA in late 1975 becoming legal citizens.Knows he has German heritage in him.Shown him where my parents came from including ancestors. Also said I remind of Heidi Klum to me and took it well

A couple of us here have a bit of German in us, my great grandparents on my dad's side immigrated from Germany in 1890. They made it to Wisconsin, where my dad was born.
Hi guys,
There was a nice car show in south St. Louis today. It was very hot, but the judges were able to get us out of there before 1430. Top 30 format, no classes, and I was fortunate to crack the Top 30. If you're interested you can check out pics at the following link: https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...s-area-165938/

My parents came from the Munich area and still have family there.Plan on visiting them next year and my son is going .Also found out he was checking out a youtube channel,Feli From Germany.I thought it was cool of him checking it out.
Not much swimming going on today. We had a fairly large storm this morning with quite a bit of wind and the lake was very choppy. It settled down by evening but that was that, not many people went out. Eh, I got quite a bit of swimming in with others so I'm okay with it.
I had thought I'd get in a nap this evening and then leave town around midnight. I didn't realize how late it was until I got back to the room and saw it was 11:00. Also the car needs gas and none of the stations in town are open all night. So who knows what I'll do. NIne hours home and I want to be able to do some catch up before I have to end for work Monday morning.
Got some good parts at the swap meet. Left and right fin trim, both rear bumper halfs(halves?), tunnel boots, and hood trim. It's a good start. Notice I didn't say this stuff was inexpensive.
Okay think I'll hit the sack, and wake up whenever. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
OK Mike, I've been thinking about this on and off so I will ask you. Wifey and I went to a Nationals maybe 10-15 years ago. I think it was Springfield, Ill but actually could have been Dearborn, (foggy about the details), Anyway, we got on a bus to go on a tour and sat close to a guy who was talking about Amphibicars. He had one or some and also some Oldsmobiles. Was that you? Every time you mention amphibicars I wonder if it was you we met then.
Yesterday evening I checked the official high temp for St. Louis yesterday at the National Weather Service, it was 104° F around 4:00pm, OMG, it must be a record! Luckily the car show got over early!
The existing heat and the car staying hot were just too much for me to clean the bugs off of my car after I got home yesterday. So I got up and got out to the garage at 0630 to clean the front facing surfaces, hood, bumper, grille, windshield, and mirrors. I hate leaving any bugs on my toys. Yesterday was the 17th event I've had my car out to this year, 11 cruise-ins and 6 judged shows. About 780-miles so far. Will easily break events attended and mileage records this summer if the weather cooperates.
Nothing else on tap for today, even though it's supposed to be cooler. It's only supposed to be 100° F today!
Yeah, I can't be arsed to do anything outside today. I need to do yardwork before the White Trash Woman across the street sends me another unsigned note about how I am unfit for home ownership.
101° Fri, 104° yesterday, 103° today. 3 consecutive days over 100, I don't think I ever remember that happening before in the 39-years I've been here. Tomorrow, a front is.coming through, forecast high of 83°, might have to break out my heavy coat!
Damn John, sorry to hear that you have a "Karen" to contend with. A few storms went through last night dumping 3 1/2" of rain here. Funnel clouds were supposedly spotted about a mile from me, but no touch down. Humidity sucks, but it will be cooler tomorrow, in the 70's.
Found out a couple co workers were nice to me this morning. They like to give back to people with disabilities, know I have Pituiritary Dwarfism.Made me a much safer portable work station.A heavy equipment mechanic, was using a step ladder to get to the engine area.Boss thought that was nice of them to do that for me

Oh how easily we forget. Went and did some St. Louis weather research. As recently as 2012 we had 7 consecutive days of 100° or above. That is by far from the record though. In 1936 there was a stretch of 37 consecutive days of 100° or above. There were 420 deaths attributed to that heat wave!
Well here I am at Big D and it feels like I never left. Ah so it goes. Got home around 5 last night, called my Mom and then hit the sack. No way was I going to attempt to go grocery shopping. I was wacked. Good trip, though, lots of fun.
No Greg that wasn't me. Sounds like an interesting fellow.
Guess I'll catch up over the morning, but first, I have cards already. Yay Monday. Hope everyone has a good day.
Heh heh heh. You don’t want to know about our summer records.
Kenneth - I remember last summer when you showed us it was something outrageously crazy where you guys had something like 115 straight days of 100° or higher temps. Only place in the U.S. than can compete with you guys is Death Valley. That is not a competition that I want to compete in!
Windows open, high of 75 today. Woo-hoo, I get to turn the a/c off! Actually going to mow my lawn today for the first time in a month, as it has been so dry, the lawn went dormant (except for the damn weeds).
What a nice break we had from the heat today, overcast and a high of only 80°. It was supposed to rain on and off all day but it never materialized.
I found this pic on the website of the Kids Youth Sports Organization that sponsored the car show on Saturday. The young man who presented me my plaque was one of the dozens of kids who helped out during the day working as carhops (actually taking orders and going to get us food and drinks) and other duties as assigned. It was really nice to find this picture!
