The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Weather guessers said it was to be a super warm and dry week all the way thru the 4th weekend and so far the are right!! Been just beautiful. Very warm but not real high humidity. I'll take it! Wife and I took the 'vert over to Cadillac yesterday. Took some nice paved country roads over there. Stopped at a fruit stand and bought a bunch of fresh strawberries. Ate over in Cadillac and bought a present for the 20 year old granddaughter. (She is a firecracker- born July 4th,2001) It was about a 100 mile round trip and very enjoyable with top down at 45-60MPH. a little too hot at low speeds. Went to the huge grocery store over there and stocked up for the 4th and man was it busy!! Couldn't social distance there. We did wear our masks and most people there did also. Ah I guess no comment on the Covid thing. Crazy times for sure.....
Morning Olds nuts!
lots of progress yesterday New shoes came it!
We have had a break in the weather 90's the past few days.
I got a small swamp cooler for the garage for the 57 birthday works pretty well.
but uses alot of water i guess i might have to use the hose hook up instead of pouring water in 2-3 times a day.
Man what a great price on mounting & balance the tires $45 plus the spare not bad!
Happy Thursday!

Hi everyone.
Apparently someone wanted to get out early today, so we had an extra robot guy and two extra wall guys. We finished our 50 wheels about 1030 and left a few minutes later. Not bad.
Hot out today. Did some mowing but came in because Tiger was hot and wanted a drink, and brush has grown over the area he could in the past get into the lake. Gonna go back out, sans Tiger, in a few minutes.
Johnny just out of curiosity, was it cheeper to buy the tires online and then pay a place to put them on, other than getting the tires at a place? In the past I wanted a tire the tire store couldn't get, but they said if I could find them online they'd put them on for me at X price, and also they'd do the rotations for free. I never did do that. I got the tires but never put them on a car. So the tires are timing out in the basement. Not bright.
Jamesbo that isn't a deuce and a half, that's a 5 ton. If I parked my truck along side of it, my truck would look small. I've figured out how to get around wet firewood. Add gasoline. Don't worry, the stove is pretty thick, I don't think it will blow up the living room.
Someone here had a 5 ton. Brian. He played with us for a short time only.
On all my rounds of looking at cars I've seen three 57 Chevy's that are the color I've been looking for. You might remember I have a 57 Chevy that is copper and I want to fix it up to surprise my Mom, except at the rate I'm going it will be 10 lifetimes before it's done. So I've been looking for another that's already done. These are all nice cars but overpriced, and priced over the amount that I have to spend. Sheesh.
Okay back outside. Hope everyone has a good afternoon.

Good morning everyone.
Beautiful out and not hot, but I think it will get hot. Back from the Awful house already, so I'm gonna hit the junkyard this morning. Haven't been there in a long time.
Johnny my convertible came with Ultra aluminum wheels, and I didn't know what it would have had. Then I opened the trunk and saw the spare. SSI. So I got a set and am in the process of cleaning them up and I'll get a new set of Cooper Cobra's. It will look pretty much like your car, the blue is a little darker.
Need to do a little painting of things today. Might mow some more. But I'm really looking forward to the junkyard. I can see that place on my way home from work, and it looks like they have everything filled in. I always feel cheated when I pay my dollar to get in and then there's several rows empty.
Okay have a good day everyone. Friday, probably a long weekend for most. Don't blow your hands off.

Looks like the times have changed Jamesbo. Mike, the last few times that I have bought tires for my cars, I priced them on Tire Rack, then took the price to my local go to tire store. they usually came within 10-20 bucks of the Tire Rack in price. I buy from the local place, and save on the shipping, so I am really paying the same amount.
Good morning everyone. Happy 4th of July!
There must be a noise ordinance that is actually enforced around here. We heard bangs and booms all evening and then about a quarter to 12 it all stopped abruptly. Sure, an errant boom a little after midnight but it was done all of a sudden. We'll see if that's the case tonight.
Awful house was surprisingly empty when I was there. It started filling up when I was leaving. Saw some people I hadn't seen in awhile, it was nice.
Jamesbo the old man needed to get out and beat that punk's ***.
Beautiful today. Mowed some more yesterday, got one more section left and I'll do that this afternoon. Gonna try my luck at bending brake line for the blue van. Don't know if I could get pre-bent line at the dealer, if they did have it I'm sure it would be expensive. If I kink too many lines today then I'll look into it.
Have a great day everyone. God Bless America!

I’m digging out hardened rubber in all my concrete expansion joints in my 10’W x 100’L wrap-around driveway. I have I believe eight expansion joints. I have my metal blade lawn edger set for straight plunge cuts. The last time I needed to perform this operation was ~12 years ago. Not sure I’ll have time to rubberize any today. The fun NEVER stops around here!
i don’t have any issues with most people celebrating the 4th with fireworks. I have more of an issue with the little ***** boys who deliberately alter their exhaust systems to create a menace and nuisance. The little ***** boys I call them.
Happy 4th of July everyone.

Oh man, that sandwich does look good. We have had some good food over the weekend- summer food. Wifey made some big old BBQ ribs that looked like something out of the Flintstones show. They were about big enough to turn over the car if you set them on the drive in tray. (Remember that??) She also makes this cucumber salad stuff with vinegar- The combination is excellent...
Peculiar formatting to that link. It does work, peculiar though.

Good morning everyone.
Obviously no one paid heed to the cries for help of not blasting fireworks around scared animals. At least not in my neighborhood. Although, again, things abruptly stopped around 11:15. The people across the lake must have spent thousands on fireworks. Whatever they had rivaled anything any city would put on. Tiger was unimpressed and slept through most of it.
Beautiful here. I'm going to cut base board and then stain. What fun. Walmart first.
I hope we all still have all our appendages this morning. Have a great day everyone.

Thanks Norm, It was "spose" ta be a pic of Fred Flintstone with ribs on his car tray
Mike, I'm with Tiger, Ever since { I believe it was last year] a donkey near me had a heart attack and died These fireworks have gotten out of hand. I think because so many public shows were cancelled, this was amateurs fireworks night

James - I believe that to be the case regarding amateur fireworks night. Our small town did have a fireworks display - not long, but it was impressive, especially the finale. Plenty of amateurs shooting off fireworks; and, I'm not talking about sprinklers, charming black smoke snakes, bottle rockets & firecrackers - there were plenty of those. Instead, I'm talking about large mortar casings fireworks. I do have some familiarity w/ fireworks with a modest chemistry background and I worked w/ a guy (from Canada) back in the early 1980s who held a pyrotechnic license. You can only purchase some of these metals and quantities via a certified license. Some of these "amateurs" last night were firing off fireworks ~200' into the air w/ very large arsenal. These types of fireworks require a mortar casing ranging between 1' - 3' in diameter. These are not for the faint of heart. I watched this one person fire off maybe 20 of these not more than 500' feet from my home. Each one of these sized fireworks would have a cost of ~$200 - $300 each - possibly more towards the range of $400 - $500 each. That's nearly $6K worth of personal fireworks. If he made them himself maybe $3K - $5K. That's a substantial amount of $$ and powdered metal. They were quite nice. Lots of pent up emotions I believe this 4th of July.
Pulled pork is what I made for our get together yesterday. Really, it was too hot though to be outside. Asked my niece if she was taking any pics down by the lake near them, as they have a walking trail from their house that leads to the water. Nope, she replied, too many bear sightings for her comfort. Well, the sprinklers are on, as they have been daily, in a losing battle to keep the grass from turning brown.
Big giant fail. I ripped off all the cheap baseboard in the bedroom so I could put in nice wood and stained trim. Got a bunch of expensive wood that I've been pretty much turning into scrap, and now that I have one good piece cut, I see how wavy my walls are. No way I can use this stuff and have it look decent. So you know what I'm gonna do? Paint it all white so I can use caulk to hide the gaps. Not the look I was going for but I'm tired of this project and just want it to be done.
Hot out. I should be doing stuff outside rather than inside projects. Almost time to wind down for the evening. It will be quiet tonight, much welcomed.

Hi everyone.
Rain. Actually started raining just as I got home from work, then stopped, then as I was running errands and heading home. Rained pretty good for awhile. We actually needed it, but I'm done with it now.
So work today was okay, I started at 6 with inspection and we turned 50 wheels between the two of us. Then I went to my desk and started signing. The fat man was slow while I wasn't there and we didn't get out until almost 1. Tomorrow we're doing 70. We'll be there all day. Well, what a better way to demonstrate that we need our people back, and our 40 hours back.
Jamesbo I'm certainly no pro when it comes to woodwork and painting. But it will be okay for me. I wouldn't want to be the guys building me a house. I'd be bird ******* everyone every day.
Gonna settle in for the evening. Hope everyone had a good start to the week.

Had the rhizotomy done today, a bit sore, may take a couple of weeks to get the results that I want. Hopefully I can get some greenery trimmed up tomorrow. I need to get a bit of it taken care of in both the front and back yards.
Mike, I know just enough about construction to get in the way and enough about life to see FUBAR a short way down the road. The guy who was sposed to build my lake boat house walls got real busy so he said, I've got a framing crew that can do it. When I saw a framing crew [that I din't know] trying to coordinate with the barge/ crane guy [bringing in roof trusses [to the tune of $1700 a day

Hi everyone.
Out at 130 today. Seventy wheels. And suddenly everyone decides to take lunch. I hope this isn't the new order. I like getting out early. But the longer we stay, the more the company will see we need our 40 hours back.
Johnny the car just keeps getting better and better. It's a pretty late car to have flat edge fenders.
Rain off and on all day, cloudy now but no rain.
Hope everyone has a good evening. I'm gonna read up on company policy.

I bought a pair of fenders for my 70 when I worked at a Chevy place in 1987. Parts department looked them up(in a book), said they were available, and ordered them through the parts system. They arrived a couple weeks later, and I borrowed the delivery van to take them home over my lunch break. I never did use them. I did open one to see what it looked like, and it was a genuine GM fender, with the crumple edge. All the times I've moved I've brought them along with me. I still have the car they were intended for, but I'm not sure it's a worthy candidate for restoration at this point. No matter, I will keep the car and the fenders.
Johnny, car looking great! Still hot and muggy here. Unfortunately this house doesn't have a/c. But basement is almost too cold even in this weather! I plan to add a/c someday after I get all the other things fixed. I finally got the 05 F150 ready to sell. It's a long story I won't get into, but all I will say is I certainly am glad I'm not a mechanic in this day. Have to discharge a/c and remove accumulator to remove right valve cover? Have to remove crossmember and half of front c/v axles to remove oil pan? Really??? It seems on these newer vehicles if everything can be made to fit with enough clearance for it not to touch and rattle it is OK. How long did it take to remove the right valve cover on a 63 Impala? Ok even a 77 Cutlass with air? On the Olds you would have to take loose the a/c compressor and brackets and set aside but still maybe a hour? Alright, enough bitching... Anyway I'm glad to have the work done. Hope it sells soon. Have a good one Olds friends!
If you want to hear horror stories about how many things to take apart to make a simple repair go talk to an Audi Mechanic. I think Audi hates their techs and actively tries to make thing difficult for them.
I'm off for another hot day at work, but I have a grin on my face and am ready to do it.
Have a great day Olds friends.

Greg, many years ago I had a co worker who used the blower motor on his furnace to pull cool air from his basement through the ducts. The furnace wasn't on (gas nor ignition), just the blower motor. if your furnace is in the basement perhaps an a/c guy could set you up.
Hi everyone.
Well that didn't take long. Weeks of getting out at 11, then a couple days of getting out after 1, and now getting out after 2. We're going to be up to 100 wheels tomorrow. That's more than half of what we were doing this time last year, and we don't have near as many planes flying. I don't think this is so much a need for wheels, but someone deciding we don't need to go home early anymore. Just about every "policy" that was made for the virus bit, has been rescinded or changed. Some departments are even back to their 40 hours already, because of "operational need." But not ours.
I have never lived where there was no air conditioning. My grandmother's house didn't have AC and she had a window unit in the dining room. It cooled the whole house. Now, just because we had AC didn't mean my Mom turned it on. She would set it to some ridiculously high temp and then turn it off at night even. Cheep is such a harsh word, let's call her frugal.
The search for a convertible continues. I might even start to consider cars that are automatic (gasp!). If I knew it wasn't going to rain again the rest of the summer I'd buy some old heap and cut the roof off.
Looks like Tiger is hungry. I might be, too. Time to go fix our supper. Have a good evening everyone.
