Just hard to watch. I really feel for all these players. This game will **** you off/ then it will be your best friend. It's all in that 6" between your ears...
I do feel very fortunate growing up and attending a private school. The emphasize was more on sportsmanship and camaraderie vs winning at all cost
Speaking of golf USGA has begun formal communications pertaining to this year's 2024 US Open contested @ Pinehurst #2. They've assigned 75 marshal volunteers to Hole #11 - where I am Marshal Hole Captain. Soon, begins the daunting responsibility of assigning marshal volunteers to shift assignments for the week. No, there aren't 75 marshals/hole/day. Volunteers are expected to work four shifts during the week. There are two shifts/day. We'll most likely have ~10 marshals/per shift/day. Some maintain spectator crosswalk crossings, some manage grandstand/viewing areas, others on the tee-box, the green & the (tee-shot) drop zone. So, x2 shifts/day x 10 marshals/shift = ~20 volunteers/day. So, I need to assign x4 shifts/volunteer from a pool of 75 volunteers over a seven day period.
EDIT: About bed time. I think that equates to ~5-6 volunteers/shift/day = ~10-12 volunteers/day since 7 days x 2 shifts/day = 14 shifts. From a pool of 75 volunteers that's 75/14 = ~5.4 volunteers/shift. Might be a chance they toss more volunteers my way.

You lucky turd. Two new in the box sets of TaylorMade irons & wedges.
I've never played with a full set of TaylorMade irons. I use to play with a TaylorMade Burner Driver & Burner 3-Wood some years ago - they were decent enough for my game. I have a TaylorMade 52° Gap (Attack) wedge I carry in my bag. I have a Tour Edge 63° Lob Wedge I love to death. Not sure Tour Edge makes a 63° any longer I see only a 60°. Kind of odd. I have a Cleveland CBX 56° Loft wedge. While I like the distance, weight, balance & feel of the club - I'm not convinced Cleveland wedges are worth it. They espouse to have the greatest wedges but the iron shafts pit easily & aren't very durable. Doubtful I'll buy another. It isn't long before I'll need to replace this Cleveland & I'm leaning towards the TaylorMade wedges.
I had to pull out the TaylorMade box that has the Wedges in it, as it had been so long since I had ever looked at them. The 3 are labeled as 52° Gap, 56° Sand, and 60° Lob. I'm not sure what degree my Sand Wedge is that's currently in my bag, but I'm pretty sure my current Lob Wedge is a 63°, which I may keep in the bag over the 60° TaylorMade? Hell, I may keep all my old irons, we'll see. Do you know of a company that makes a reasonably priced Magic Sand Wedge? Always the worst part of my game, even when I played alot, and certainly a skill that needed much more practice, but was always neglected. On bunkers around the green I always felt lucky just to get out and on, anything close was pure luck. Fairway bunkers, just as bad, anything straight and with any distance was considered a win.
Bunker shots close to the green. Rule #1 - establish a firm stance for your feet. Legs wide apart, stance is low (drop your *** down & sit down in the shot) this is more easily remembered when you consider where your arms and hands should be. Your hands should be about the height of your knees.
Fairway bunkers. Rule #1 - establish a firm stance for your feet. Club up 1 or 2 clubs. Strike ball exactly as you wood if the ball were in the fairway.

Norm - Good rules/tips. Thanks!
Hey, thought this might be a fun topic. Ranking the components of your game from best (1) to worst (6). I'll start, but I'm caveating my response by saying my ranking is from when I played regularly.
Here's mine:
1. Iron Play (to within 20-yds of green, with exception of bunker play)
2. Driving off the tee (Woods Only)
3. Putting
4. Chipping (20-yds and in)
5. Fairway Woods
6. Bunker Play (all yardages)
1 Driver 2 chipping 3 putting 4 sand play 5 long irons
Jim - Thanks for participating. When I played alot, I always had much more confidence in my Iron play than any other clubs. So much so, that I even had a 1 Iron in my bag that I would hit versus a 5 Wood. Here are the Clubs in my bag when I stopped playing.
Putter
Lob Wedge
Sand Wedge
Irons (Std Wedge, 9 - 3, and 1)
Woods (Driver, 3 Wood)
Only 13 Club's? Well, I guess if Roy McAvoy can "Par in" with only a 7 iron, it should be be no surprise that Stormin Norman can Gitr' Done with only 13!
~80% of my <10 yd approach shots played w/ an 8-Iron pitch-&-run shot. Seldom will I play a chip shot. Roughly 20% played either (1) 56° or (2) 63°
~80% of my 10 yd - 40 yd shots played w/ 63°. Roughly 20% played w/ 56°
~80% - 90% of my <40 yd - 80 yd shots played w/ 56°
~80% - 90% of my 80 yd - 100 yd shots played w/ 52°
Whether I pitch vs. chip is always dependent on how ball lies.

Ha. I forgot Costner's name in Tin Cup was Roy McAvoy. Love that movie. I paid more attention to Rene. Yum yum, yum yum.
Two key features which make me a good putter: (1) I have extraordinary peripheral vision (I should be a hawk); and, (2) I have extraordinary depth perception. I've known this all my life. It's really quite uncanny.

Sounds to me with that vision you should have been a Fighter Pilot!
May be why I enjoyed flying so much. Loved performing side-slips & forward-flips - crabs were a walk in the park.
I had forgotten you had a private Pilot's License, or at least had one at one time, too cool! All I had ever wanted to be as a kid growing up was a Fighter Pilot, until I found out my vision would be a disqualifier. Corrective surgery was in it's infancy (mid-70's) in the days before Laser, and my parents couldn't have afforded it anyway.
Hi guys,
Sure was nice yesterday, it hit 70°. Unfortunately too much crap going on around here to be able to get out and enjoy it. We'll be lucky if it breaks 50° today, it's overcast and only 43° right now.
Wife's still ill and so of course her surgery scheduled for today was canceled. She's supposed to call when she's better to see when she can reschedule. Got word the flooring company is coming Monday afternoon to start removal of carpeting and old hardwood floor for the new flooring. We're trying to get as much clutter and small pieces of furniture to the basement to make the job easier. I'm doing the vast majority of this because my wife is just not up to helping. It's keeping me hopping. Getting the new flooring in is the big challenge on the horizon, next week will be interesting to say the least.
I forgot, the hardest shot for me is a long ( not fairway) bunker shot. I never can decide if I should fluff a more lofted club or pick a less lofted club 🤔

Jim - Hard for me too. As I mentioned previously, I feel lucky if I just get out and on. Anything close is pure luck!
Meatloaf - I love meatloaf. Carrots - I love carrots w/ meatloaf. Baked potatoes - I love baked potatoes w/ meatloaf.
My Mom made Meatloaf with a can or two (depending on size of loaf) of Campbells' Vegetable Beef soup mixed with the ground beef for added flavor, so it had carrots and potatoes actually in the meatloaf. Best I've ever had, and how I make it.to this day.

Hope ya'll have a great day!
Chris hope the wife starts getting back to feeling good again. What a bummer. She might just need a good shot of ralphOsilin...worth a try. I use to take my gal three asprin before we went to bed, when she said "I don't have a headacke" I smiled and said gooood.
Wow, unbelievable how the time flys by! I didn't even realize this until my wife told me my Sister posted about it on Facebook. My Dad passed 30-years ago today. As I think most of you know, he was a PE teacher and coach. He taught PE at the Elementary (K-4) school in the mornings, and at the Middle (5-8) school in the afternoons. When he passed, each school put up a Memorial Plaque in his honor directly outside the doors to the two gymnasiums. When the School District closed the Middle School, and sent 5th and 6th grades to the Elementary, and 7th and 8th to the Highschool, the Principal at the Middle School was kind enough to contact me and asked me if I wanted this. The best role model a boy could ever have, and my hero!

Chris-
Thank you for sharing your Dad's remembrance. Sounds like his sprit is living along well with all the folks he touched in their life journey along side him. The best we can all hope for.
