Just saw this on Facebook. I looked forward to this every year and saw it several times a year. I never noticed how scary Santa looked. This film debuted in 1951, a little before my time but they were still playing it in the 70s.

Chili down ere

So Allan, The question that comes to mind is how in the wild wild world of sports, does one get introduced to the wonderful world of curling? Sounds kinda expensive for a kids league. Not like buying a glove a ball and a bat.

Adrian, Why is a blank pistol against the law, Don't they use them for starting races? A few hundred years ago I ran the 440. Came in dead last in every race except one [ came in next to last] just before my retirement

Mike, If ya need sum fire wood come on upec

Family coming this morning

Have a great day Olds friends

Good morning everyone,

Not a bad start to the morning at only 26°. Wind makes it feel closer to 20 though. Good thing is with the wind I won't have to scrape frost off the windshield.

Jim - the question that comes to mind for me is how in the wild world of sports does one get introduced to golf? Kinda spensive for a kid to get a set of clubs, bag, *****, cart, shoes, gloves etc and I don't think they even have kids leagues. Curling is introduced through sports programs up here same as baseball, football, b ball, soccer, lacrosse, tennis etc are. The junior leagues in every sport demands commitment and financial assistance no matter what sport cha pick. No?? Lots of pro curlers start curling when they're in the 7 - 10 age range. Probably less expensive to curl than golf for a kid.

Glenn - Too bad she decided to have maintenance issues on the highway. Hope it's something minor. Up to 70? That's good enough weather to work on her. Congrats on the win! You still got leaves?? Wow, our oak has been bare for over a month, but then again we have had snow since September.....enjoy putting up those Christmas lights.

Good Morning Guys:
I am actually on The Good Morning Thread in the morning today. It was 32 last night for the second night in a row. It is supposed to be up to 63 today so I will probably get the Olds going today. I am guessing the coil crapped out on her. O'Reilly has a Delco coil for me which is probably make in Mexico but maybe that is better than China. I will probably go ahead and put in the NOS Delco points and condenser I bought on ebay.
Allan, I can't believe the price of those stones. Do they last forever or do they eventually wear out. I have watched curling on the Olympics. I think Jim hit it right on the head about starting to play golf. I used to be a hacker but never took any lessons or played consistently. I think to have any chance of being respectable, you have to take some lessons and play at least once a week. Playing 18 holes is going to take at least 7-8 hours and longer if you spend much time at the 19th hole. When I was raising a family I never had the time and probably the money. I think I could enjoy playing now that I am retired if I had a friend that played. Probably not going to happen.
I am out to run a couple of errands and then the weather should be warmed up and I will get the Olds going. She is sitting in the drive with the cover over her and she needs to be in the garage.
Have a good day guys.
Glenn

Good morning everyone.

Things started out strong but then slacked off. I was hoping we could get done a little early so I can go to Harbor Freight and spend my money on chinesium crap. I need a trailer light kit.

Cold as a mother last night. And it isn't that terrific right now. Not 40. But the sun is out. I did get some mowing done yesterday. The people I talked to before I moved here lied to me, in a big way. They said it never gets cold in the south. I was duped.

Well back to it. Got a couple wheels over lunch but they won't keep us going long. Oh well. Gives me time to look at the internet.

Afternoon everyone,

Anutter crash and burn session. I just cant seem to impress on my lead and second how important it is for them to put rocks in play. They just don't seem to understand that the game winning rocks aren't always from the skip.

Glenn - Yup, they are expensive aren't they? And yes they do wear out. Usually around once a season they have to be reconditioned top and bottom. That's around $1600.00 for the sheet (or around 100/rock). The rocks generally don't break, but handles do need to be replaced occasionally. Think of it this way - Curling I pay $140 to play 10 games in the start of each league. That's $14/game. Most golf courses I know the cost to play a round is between $50 and $90. That makes curling a lot less expensive although it's more dangerous if you don't have good balance sliding around on ice.

I started driving home and all of a sudden I knew I wasn't going to make it. I had to pull into a neighborhood and park behind someones garage where I ended up being sick all over the back alley. I hate when that happens. Wanna bet the birds and squirrels in the area pick it clean?? Ewwww.

A few of us ended up staying until almost 4 to get finished up. I didn't know one of the robots broke down for an hour so that contributed to running over. The lead gave us all a lecture about teamwork. There's a group of guys that the rest of us call the F**k Boys who only help each other and cause trouble and are loud, etc. When we get the number for the day we divide it up between the five mechanics and that's how many each mech does. The F boys will not help out if they are finished and someone else is behind. But boy let them be behind and they will cry like little girls. The lead knows this and it partly contributed to today's shortcomings and he went on about it, and other ways we could have helped the situation. I will sign as many wheels as I have to so it didn't bother me in the least. One thing to note is not one of them stayed to finish up. Heck we got an hour and a half of overtime, it wasn't like we were working for free.

Since I was late getting home I didn't go to Harbor Fright. I did scare up a few pieces of dry wood and got the stove lit, then added a piece here and there and now it's nice and toasty in the house and the fire is going nicely.

Jamesbo I think you struck a nerve.

Glenn I hope you had good luck with the car today. Nothing is more irritating than chasing a problem you can't figure out. Or an intermittent one. Those are the worst.

Guess I'll find something to do for a couple hours then hit the sack. Hope everyone has a good night.

Mike - naw it's all good. Just havin some fun wit each other.

Jim - I remember when I was much younger (more years ago than I want to think about) I bought a set of whackin sticks. No lessons, just plain whack whack whack whack whack!!! Nothin good happened. Of course no one told me that after I shanked whitey into the tall grass I was spoda use irons so I whacked him agin and agin with my driver. AFter about 15 whacks I jess gave up and picked him up and threw in in de sand trap. I think I took 42 on that hole. Lookin back it's funny, but at the time I kinda lost my patience wit it. I didn't go back fer more torture till after I retired. Still got them same whackin sticks but I know better how they werk now. Never did change out the grips and I'm sure if I checked em out they'd be pretty close to rock. Whatcha think, If I pulled em off and deep fried em do ya think Mike would chomp down on em?? I recall he said he's even try to eat a rock if it was deep fried.

Well I got the old gal going this afternoon. I picked up a Delco Remy coil from O'Reilly because I thought it was the coil. I went online and looked and at $52 it was considerably more that the other dozen coils they list. I know that Delco is no longer owned by GM. I get the stupid thing and it is made in China. I thought it would at least be make in Mexico where some of their stuff is made. They are charging an awful lot for the name. Before I changed the coil I decided to take a look under the distributor cap. Low and behold the wire that comes from the coil broke off from the terminal that connects to the points. I had to pull the points out to connect the terminal and the condenser. So I went ahead and put in the NOS Delco points, condenser and rotor I had purchased on ebay. You might remember I replaced the points and condenser about two weeks ago when we were in Bastrop so I guess the metal fatigue on the terminal took its toll. This is one of the old distributors with the two clips on the cap where you have to set the points with a cam inside the distributor. I put a dwell meter on after I cranked it and the points are set at 27 degrees. That is probably about as close to 30 degrees as I can get them with a feeler gage. It has a little clatter but I may need to set the timing up a little. Enough for the day. She is back in the garage. I am going to take the Chineseum coil back tomorrow since I never took it out of the box.

Good Morning Guys:
I think cold has a different definition for us than Allan and heat has a different definition for him in the summer. I have to say Allan, I probably would not be out on the deck grilling steaks at 39 degrees. However I do have the Blu-ray thermometer that has an app on my phone where I put the probes in the meat and the app tells me when the steaks are ready. It is a pretty cool thing Weber has and is right on the money. You put in the meat you are cooking and how you want it and it gives you a warning when it is 10 degrees before it is done. It is right on the money. Jim, you gotta get the elbow tended to. You can't let anything screw with your game. I am headed out today to have lunch with some of my former coworkers. I found out yesterday the company had another layoff. That has got to be a depressing place to work. I have been in those situations before and you just wonder if you are going to be in the next round. Gotta go get some breakfast. I fried enough bacon yesterday morning that we had BT sandwiches for lunch. We didn't have the L due to the lettuce scare. I wonder if this will go down in history like the great cranberry scare of 1959.

Good morning everyone.

Things are going smoothly this morning. The lead continued his lecture today saying we're not going to be counting how many wheels each we do, we're all going to keep working until we are finished. That's fine by me, but I have a feeling that just means the F boys are going to sandbag. Eh.

Jamesbo how much time elapsed between the two breakfasts? Whenever I get a waffle at the Awful house they always tell me to put honey on it. So far I've resisted.

Glenn hope you enjoy your lunch. That sucks for your friends. The company had layoffs after 9/11 and I always seemed to be far enough ahead of the game that if they cut up to me we had bigger problems. Once though I thought I might get leveled out of my department, but was able to hold on. We're not the biggest but we make more money than anyone else so for now those worries are nonexistent.

Might try for Harbor Freight again today, who knows. I gotta find a super coupon first so I can save 20%. I signed up for the super discount emails but they never sent me any. Hm. Maybe I'll just stay home and play with Tiger.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

Mike, you can get them on your phone while you are in the store and they can scan the barcode right from your phone. I did that about 2 weeks ago. I think I get an email from Harbor Freight and Eastwood everyday and then I get the flyers too.

That reminds me of a joke. But I won't tell it. Do tell, though, if your elbow hurts why on earth would you want to move it more?

Glenn a sane person could get that coupon on their phone but I would take weeks to do it. Not a big fan of the smart phone. I get the flyers in the mail as well, I'll clip one and take it in. In fact I might save driving to Conyers and just go to Walmart. We saw on the internet they have a nice kit for 21 bucks. I can't imagine HF would have it much cheeper.

Awful house has fake maple syrup. It's probably related to the plastic oil they cook everything in.

Stopped to put gas in the car and also at the office of Dr. Joe Esposito. I don't know if you guys listen to him on the radio but he has several offices around the Greater Atlanta area and one is right here in town. I thought I'd have one of his specialists have a look at my hip. My doctor is not interested in helping me. But of course the office was closed. Hm.

Another thing that's curious to me is the DA sander contest that's at the top of the page. I read through it once and the contest ended like 10 years ago. When is it ever going to come off the page?

Jim, be sure and use local honey. It is pollinated from local flowers and is supposed to be better for your allergies. I read that somewhere and have no idea if it is true and how much you would have to eat to make a difference.
Mike I thought Joe Esposito was Elvis Presley's road manager. Different Joe. Link below.

Glenn I also have heard that local honey is best, and that what you buy in the store is fake honey from China. Who knows. The only manager I ever heard Elvis had was Col. Parker. But I'm not a big Elvis fan. He does have one of our airplanes, though.

Dr. Joe is a chiropractor and a nutritionist. Actually I could use one of each. I looked on his website and the Stockbridge office is only open Thursdays. Well, I can stop by tomorrow, same bat time, same bat channel. Anyhoo, he has a radio show and has written several books. I'm sure I won't see him but he has a team of doctors and they are(should be) as good as him. We'll see.

Gave Walmart a try for those lights and as usual they didn't fall short of disappointing. So, I'm gonna plan on Harbor Freight tomorrow. Sheesh.

I'm not having luck with the fire tonight. The firewood I'm using isn't as dry as I thought it was.

Ya I don't know what happened to Darrell. He just sort of vanished. Never said he was taking a sabbatical, never said you people are wacked, nothing.

About a year and a half ago (March 2017) Darrell posted on another thread:
My Mother was just diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia last week and we have been in and out of Sloan Kettering since.
I suspect that's one of the reasons he's been pre-occupied. I hope he's doing ok dealing with a very difficult situation. I miss having him around, same as John. Seems like part of the family has gone on a long vacation. Same with Sandy, she is also greatly missed, and while it was fun to tease her sometimes about what her mechanical understanding was on Teepo, she sure brought a great perspective to the group. Wish we could turn back time and make her well so she could be here with us.

Well, all's we have to do to bring her back, and all the others, is to start at Page 1 and start reading. I did that when I first joined the thread, although there were a few less pages to catch up on. I did see on Darrell's profile page that he was on the site in September. Nice of him to not stop in.

Or we could have a history lesson. Jamesbo, post up your recipe for tomato soup casserole.

Mike? I just went and looked at his profile and his last post was April 29 of this year. Where were you looking? Possibly at John's profile?

BTW, that's a great idea going back and reading the old posts from Sandy, the Colonel and Blue. There was a lot of humor back then and i think we had a lot more members.

Interesting, I had no idea one could do that. But I suppose, there's no expectation of any kind of anonymity or privacy anywhere anymore. No big deal; I'm on here every day, but in many cases don't have anything new to post.
I like this thread, it's actually interesting. At least it's not like Facebook, where everyone is having a perfect day with perfect friends saying very profound things that serves to illustrate how worldly or free-thinking they supposedly are.
So in that vein, I have to report that I have nothing to report; I wish I'd have taken some steaks out, it's perfect for a BBQ tonight.
Still trying to get an article written up, and now that Canada Post is back on the job, maybe I'll get the tools I've been waiting for so I can finish a few watches.

Have a great evening!

Marc, don't take it personally since my intention is to poke a little fun at you. You (and others) crack me up when you refer to cooking steaks as a BBQ. BBQ has to have smoke and sauce and usually takes several hours and usually at least a few beers. We refer to cooking steaks as grilling. I just grilled some chicken breasts tonight and seasoned them with lemon pepper. It is 61 degrees outside right now.

No worries, Glenn, I quite honestly didn't know that; - I knew we culturally misappropriated the term but was never sure. You've explained why everyone refers cooking steaks down there as "grilling", which I found kind of odd; - now I know why.
And yes, I've stood out on the deck many times in front of a grille (propane powered) cooking up steaks with a beer in hand and rolled up shirt sleeves, at about 32 degrees F. It's only a pain when you fall over backwards into a snow bank. ...That's cold...

As for the BBQ thing, maybe we shouldn't tell our resident Aussie here about another bad Canadian Cultural misappropriation, the "Outback Steakhouse", which is about as Australian as the "Olive Garden" is Italian. I think they're all part of the same chain, owned by "Swiss Chalet" which is another bad joke.(The chickens are protected in Switzerland, and there aren't many of them there, and French fries and soft rolls are a recent American import as is thick gravy.) The TV spots are all voiced by a guy with a bad Aussie accent talking about "Peppercorn steaks and shrimp on a barby". (Where are you getting fresh shrimp in the Outback? A ditch? That's crickets or cicadas then...) I'm waiting for them to try Dutch cuisine, they'd probably call it the "Dutch Oven" and sell deep fried turnips and boiled herring served with warm flat beer, or some other misconception or mis-interpretation of a culture that's so wrong it's insulting.

Marc:
Glad I cleared up some stuff. You added some really interesting and funny stuff about Outback. Good point as to where they get shrimp in the outback.

No ersatz Chinese sugar water store bought honey for ,me. This is the real McCoy, I know cause after a few years of failure raising bees, I gave my hives, tools, supers etc to a collage bud, He and his wife had several years of success before they gave up. The bee moths destroy the whole hive. I a;lso use real butter [mo oleo] cause I trust cows more than scientist

Growing up, we have sum foreigners transplanted from the north that used funny phrases, like Barbecue steaks, Pop, soda and sneakers. , Just to translate, It's Coke, grill, and tennis shoes

Reading those ole post is kinda bitter sweet to me. I miss them all, Sandy, Col, Pat et al, Allan [aka Blue Vista] was/is by far the funniest member ever on CO. Not sure why he left us

GTG family coming

Have a great day Olds friends
