Mike - I just bermembered something that might save you replacing the tensioner. When was the last time you changed the serpentine belt?? If it's all dried up and cracked it might be slipping. Belts are cheap, but the easiest way to replace them (if that's the problem) is still to take off the front wheel and splash shields. That lets you touch feed the belt under the crank pulley and also up to the alt/PS pump. Trying to replace it from up top is a royal PITA. Saves time to do it by removing the front wheel/splash shields. Plus it also lets you get a better purchase on the idler pulley bolt. Just bermember which way to turn to loosen tension. It's right on the belt decal in the engine compartment. Doing it the wrong way will loose off the tensioner bolt. Anyhoo, just a thought to try and save you some time/$$. Curious to know what the cause of your no charge situation is though.

EDIT: WOW - just checked O'Reilly's (don't know if you use them or Otterzone) and the belt ranges from 16.00 - 25.00 but the Tensioner is a whopping 75.00. Might be a good thing to go visit the boneyard for a tensioner if you need one. I bet they'd almost give it away. Belt on the other hand I'd take new. The one on the low Saturn was in perfect shape BTW, even after 7 years!! No cracks, nuthin! Still supple too so I just slipped it back on and it runs smooth and quiet. YIKES - Otterzone wants even more $$$ for the belt!

Good evening everyone.

Today was actually a nice and warm day. Haven't had one of those in a while.

Mike, in the fall I noticed a few spots on the underside of the hood on the Mustang where the paint was starting to bubble due to corrosion. After talking with the dealership they offered to fix those areas and repaint the hood. Looking at a few forums it looks like it is not a common problem but known. Hopefully you don't have to worry about that south of the salt line.

I've never actually owned a car with a cassette player. The Mustang is too new and has AM/FM/satellite/CD. The Delta was AM only from the factory but now upgraded to AM/FM/CD. The Cutlass is unknown from factory, but if I had to guess it was AM only as well and I've only put a AM/FM radio in now. Most of the time I just listen to the radio or satellite in the Mustang.

LondonCutlass, no fog? Ok, I know I'm a little late with my reply. Welcome to the thread.

Allan I'll admit I don't follow curling much, but from what you wrote, does the winning team from the tournament of Hearts become team Canada?

Have a great week everyone!

I really want to take the float and pick up Olds parts, but just is not in the cards. I will be takin I 75 to Fort Myers , and back up to 10 to NO...looks like a cool little coastal highway by Johns that I may explore

Hi everyone.

Today was a bust as far as getting anything substantial done. It never did clear up and it's been raining off and on all day. It's still fairly warm at 50*.

Thanks Allan, the belt slips most likely because it's over 10 years old, and I'm sure the tensioner is losing some of its tension. It will all be taken care of during the rebuild.

Paul I've already had problems with my hood. The guy that cleaned it up when I bought it put a big scratch on the left side and it had to be refinished. They didn't paint it, but wet sanded and buffed I'm guessing. Can't tell there was anything there. The dealer told me a "specialist" from Ford comes around every couple of weeks to take care of things like that. The specialist made it worse, and they ended up taking it to a body shop down the street to get it right. I'll keep my eye out for corrosion on the bottom side of the hood, though. I've got a whopping 2200 miles already so problems can start any time now.

John how did things ever turn out with Aunt Carmy? Did she make amends with her caregivers or did they make her pack up? I hope she's well and things are better.

Last night off. Later this week I need to get it in gear to get ready for my trip. Australia is now only two weeks away. It snuck up on me this year. I've also got a couple other things going on that require some attention that need to be juggled.

Ted that sounds like a good trip. Will you go back to Fort Myers to fly home or continue on from New Orleans? Driving on I-10 you'll go right past my family in Pensacola. You should stop at the Coffee Cup place that Jamesbo likes.

Okay have a good evening everyone and don't let Monday get the best of you.

Ted - I'm glad you had fun and enjoyed it. Look forward to many great outings with the sport. Even losing can be fun; ask me how I know....

Mike - I guess I was just looking for a way to solve your charging problem quick and easy. You're right - it can wait till the rebuild. I forget - is yours a DOHC or SOHC? The new alternator isn't all that quiet BTW. It's quieter than the old one and I might just wait and see if it lasts or craps out.

Paul - Yes, you're correct. MB did win the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and they officially become Team Canada for the rest of the year. When the Brier hits Calgary this year we'll see if the existing Team Canada (Mens) will continue to reign or a new one takes over. Kevin Koe jumped ship so now it's John Morris playing with Carter Rycroft, Pat Simmons and Nolan Thiessen. Pat used to play skip for SK back in the day and the others are remnants of bygone curling greats. Not sure why Koe jumped ship; possibly there were personality conflicts?? We'll see how it works out.

Mawnin everyone

Holy Samolians! Spoda get up to around 48 today, and it's already 37...YES!!!!! We don't get this kinda treat all that often so I'll take it.

Ted, sorry bout the deep freeze down your way. Shouldn't last long. What happens when ya lose? why ya get a silver medal of course and share beers with the winning team. There's only been one guy in the last 15 years of curling that was too obnoxious to hoist a tankard with. Curling has a unique comardarie I've never experienced with any other sport. Did you get on the ice or just watch the first time?

Clint, condolences for Tori's loss. Sorry to hear you didn't rest well. I'd offer to come help you plow but you've prolly got it done already. So tempted to hit the boneyard and pick up a stock alt from one of the many donors. That new NAPA one doesnT sound good. It has a whine to it new out of the box. Was thinking about that plastic shield and came to the conclusion it's really overkill. This is the only car I've ever seen it on. With the weather pack connector on back and boot over the positive feed it shouldn't need it. Maybe it's for pressure wash protection but none of the other cars has that.

Jim, ha gonna whack whitey before de double hitter gits there? Doncha Jess hate wen business messes wit pleasure an a good routine?

London, guess what we don't have this mawnin? If ya guessed fog, you'd be......right! Perfect drop top temp except for all the melting that will be on the roads in a few hours. No, I've never seen any of those Consuls over here.

John, I might have to try rippin some CDs too. I did some about 5 years ago and it wasn't hard. Problem now is I don't spend much time in the car anymore and when the missus goes without me she likes it to be quiet. Prolly so she can talk.......

Scot, sup brother?

Koffee time. Enjoy your day.

Good Mawnin All

The rain is gone until tonight and we shall get up to around 57* ferrel height. No bad and it's better than freezing It got up to near 70* yesterday evening before Elsie moved in. Looks like tonight and Wednesday are going to be a wash out

Not too much going on Al This weekend I did a tune up on the Corolla and changed out the radio with a nice JVC double din with hands free bluetooth. Only $134 plus $20 for the wiring adapter harness and another $20 for the fascia fill plate

Welcome to the mawnin thread Chris and LondonCutlass

Scot, sup wit dat? Here in the Greater Stockbridge Area we aren't even to 50. The sun is out, though. Rain forecast for the foreseeable future.

Got up early for the dogs and then slept all morning. First night back tonight. I put in for a different department, so we'll see if I get it. If it's filled strictly by seniority I should be a shoe-in.

Busy day today. My daughter sweet talked me into buying her a new car. Not sure about her taste but she wants a new Audi A1. So that's what she gets. Rather her than me!
Today's weather was sunny with showers and feeling cold at around 46F

London that's a nice little car. Why don't you like them, other than they are kin to the VW?

Allan my car is an SW2, twin cam. It was quite perky in its day but I don't dare get on it anymore for fear it will go bang.

Ready for work. I have a feeling this week will go quickly, since there are things that need to be done and there's three days right there that I won't do anything.

Evenin' from da Swamp... Drizzled most of the night last night, but relented around dawn. Stayed in 40s all day; spose to get down to 30s tonite.

Better half & I had our delicious ershta's (oysters) from our favorite ershta place in Metairie today. Not quite as good as a couple weeks back, but good indeed.

We had fog in LA today! Whatd'ya'know.

Mike, Aunt Carmy is behaving herself to the best of her ability. My brother and SIL relented, God bless 'em, and things are steady-as-she-goes. I hold my breath each day awaiting updates. Thanks for asking.

Better half had an old 1-gig iPod, so I'm even puttin' that one to good use. You can get over 10 albums on it, so what the heck. It's turning out to be kinda' fun, anyhow. I'm resurrecting CDs that have hardly been looked at since Katrina.

Allan, I was a big cassette guy for most of my life. I was fortunate enough that the JBL system in the Camry actually had both a cassette player AND a 6-CD changer. I was spoiled. I got my first cassette player in '68. Now, I have a cassette deck set up in the garage and can play some older tapes just for nostalgia's sake. I never did do the 8-tracks, although my GS has the factory deck, so I might be on the lookout for a few old tapes just for fun, assuming I get it to work OK. I was never wild about how the 8-tracks would shift tracks over a song. Found that very distracting... and the fidelity was never what you'd call "audiophile."

Ted, ur PM inbox runneth over

Whelpt, y'all have a fine night, Oldsmofriends.

Mike, here's a quick question for you. Is the wiring harness for an sl2 the same as an sl1 in the engine bay? When I bought the car new the SOHC was rated at 100 hp and the DOHC was rated at 125. I didn't think it was worth the price difference but years later found the SOHC had more problems than the DOHC. When are you scheduling the rebuild anyway? I saw a cool how to on the tear down of a DOHC. It was a Richpin vid IIRC. the miracles of filming make the tear down a 'simple' 30 minute job. Yeah, that's just not gonna happen. You are doing the work yourself right?

John, I have no idea if the old 8 tracks have survived the test of time and storage. Guess I'll find out when the tape player gets installed in the 72.

Good evening everyone.

Bowling night tonite. Haven't bowled in about 3 weeks, so was nice to get back at it. Played against one of the top teams in the league and we actually managed to take all 3 games! Not sure if we did good or they did bad.

The weather is still cold here. They have another "extreme cold weather/frostbite warning" in place overnight but hopefully it will warm up tomorrow.

Mike, such high mileage on your Mustang!

Clint, try not to dream about work tonite.

Ted, I'm ready for spring too!

Scot, that looks like an interesting radio you installed in the Corolla.

London, is the A1 ~VW Golf sized or smaller?

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

Evening All,

Too cold to work on the cars in the shop...when it dips below -20 it takes too much to heat.

Scot, I hope the temp keeps on climbing!

John, thanks for all your suggestions . My wife and I were up late looking at all the links you sent. We were in heaven! ( and hungry!)...and you have a PM. Hopefully 'the swamp' warms up for when us frozen Canadians arrive

Mornin all.

Ted, NOLA sounds like fun. I'm ready to go back. but that ain't gonna happen.

Paul, Sorry I didn't get the memo til this mornin. So we both woke up grumpy and not well rested.

London, My condolences on the new ride, But I guess if you can afford to buy a new one, then you can afford to fix it.

Scot what a sweet looking stereo. I've been longing to have a crankin stereo, but I really don't need it since I listen to talk radio.

Hope it dries out a bit for you Jamesbo. Since my heat wire shorted out, I'm getting a nasty Icedam on the north side of the garage. Came home to large icicles blocking the door to go out to the mules.

Allan, Thanks. Those things happen. Fickle creatures they are.

Well spose to get 3-7 more inches tomorrow. When it snows it pours. Some days you just want to say $%#* it. And it seems like they are all piling up on me recently.

Have a Tuesday.

GTG to Costco today. You know what that means.

Jim, must be gittin to whack $@&! Season here. Golf shows, sales n kliniks abound.

Clint, talk radio? Hope you sleep ok tonight.

John, Tiu's smiling at us I think!

Just watching the rat race on de tube. Glad I don't have to participate anymore. Enjoy your day.

There aren't even any tape decks for home entertainment. Hm and to think I had an 8 track player when I was a kid.
my "new to me" 93 truck has a cassette player, and it even works, not the greatest but it works.
and when I cleared out my old house as I just moved I sent a bunch of cassettes to the local thrift store.

Good Tuesday Mawnin All

It's a rainy 45* ferel height here, with it clearing by late this evening and supposed to climb to 50*. Another gully-washer is scheduled for tomorrow

Thanks Paul It's pretty cool and even came with a remote about the size of a small remote key fob. I still have and love all of my 8-track tapes, cassette tapes, LP's, 45's and CD's. But ya gotta love the capability of having over 800+ (8GB) of those songs playing in your car, at will and without having the issue of space and the possibility of getting them messed up

She wanted a single din, but this one was only $5 more.

Dunno Mike but I sure enjoyed it Grilled some steaks and fresh baby bellas and after that I burned off some cardboard from freezers, hot water heaters and some old outdated documents. Stayed with it until just about 10 pm when it started sprinkling.

Good luck on getting the new position

Morning all!

Up to a whopping 10* now after a start of -5. Below 0 wind chills. Tired of it already!! We've broken all sorts of records this month. Had a nice day Sunday with temps around 30* and sun in the morning. Saturday was horrible. Our county had a driving ban out. So many people have been killed in car accidents around here this winter on the Turnpike and just all over. Sad. That's about the only thing winter is good for. Killing people. A 17 year old girl was killed weekend before last in Rootstown. Lost control of her car in the icy slush. Tragic.

Something has been digging in my front flower bed. Rabbit or deer? They've dug a heck of a big hole out there, I imagine they're looking for something green to eat. Part of my creeping phlox are uncovered and scattered around. Guess I'll be able to see it come July when all this crap melts lol. March is going to come in like a lion they're saying. But we should see some 30's and 40's throughout the month. I hope we do anyhow.

Nothing new or exciting happening. Went with Pam to an antique auction on Sunday. It was at the garage of a friend of ours who died in October. Talk about the stuff!!! Old lunch boxes, comic books, model and matchbook cars, metal little semi trucks, old metal oil cans, oil, gas, garage signs, just all sorts of stuff! There was a 70 442 W 30 'wireless remote control' car, red with a white top. Looked new but dusty. I don't know what she wanted for it. That's the only Olds thing I saw, but stuff was crammed everywhere! She said she sent pics to American Pickers - they would love the signs - but she hasn't heard back from them. I told her to keep on them! It was interesting.

Brian finally told me yesterday afternoon that they hired Steve Mccoy. I said I wondered when someone was going to tell me! I guess he will be going with these guys Friday to NY to the sales meeting. He'll start march 16th. So then Brian was on the phone with the place that did the running of the lines and cables here when they moved in here, to see about getting them out to run the lines over to where Clay is being moved. Brian was astonished that they remembered him. I said 'you probably made a lasting impression on tbem'!! They were probably thinking 'oh no. Not that *** again'!! . So I guess clay will be moving before march 16th and I'll be moving out there. I still haven't told them that I'm bringing in a desk.

Got a call from the clinic yesterday. I have to have my arm measured next week to see if its any smaller since wearing this compression sleeve since Oct. At least they set it up at the clinic here in Twinsburg so we don't have to go downtown Cleveland.

I have to go to the post office at lunch and mail nicoles tax stuff to the accountant. She spilled something on her W2's.... some are hard to read! Will see if the IRS wants another copy. She is coming home this weekend!!! Can't wait to see her. Jean and I are going to attempt to take Lin out for breakfast on Saturday, weather permitting!

Well I better get off here and go. Clint.... what did u think of the dead? Larry missed that part, lol! . Have a great day all.

Afternoon all ( or good morning depending where you are) Exciting week ahead in not so foggy London. Taking my newly trimmed leather seats for the Cutlass complete with embroidered headrest to my fitters. TV and DVD now fitted. Only a few weeks from being finished, need to sort new hydraulics for the soft top and a new rear bumper then it will be time for a blast around London Town. I will post a few cool pics around some famous landmarks.
Weather today. Same as yesterday!

Hi everyone.

What a dismal day out. A good day for sleeping. And it was, indeed. Got up a little early and went next door to get some macaroni and broccoli. As a bonus she was just making pumpkin soup and I got some of that, too. Good stuff. My neighbors take such good care of me.

Worked inside last night, and it was rainy driving home this morning but nothing frozen. A few miles north and it was a different story. Jamesbo I hope you didn't slip and slide all day. Winter storm warning for most of the state starting tonight and going through Thursday.

Speaking of fog. When we were at our other building, we'd park the planes on the pad maybe 300 feet from the building. During times like these it would get so foggy at night if you were at the plane you couldn't see the hangar, even with the doors open and the lights on. And you'd have to be right on top of the airplane to see its lights if they were on. We don't seem to get that where we work now, maybe being down in a gully has something to do with it.

You know my Corvette has an 8 track in it. Got some tapes in the glove box, not many. I've always like piano music, and when I was a kid I told my folks I wanted a tape of Liberace. Well they got me one but sure gave me an odd look. No I wouldn't have been one of his contemporaries. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Well time for night two. Tomorrow is the half way point, hope everyone is doing well.

Hi everyone.

Well, I have had to make a difficult decision regarding our dog, but I think it's the best case scenario for both him and us. We found a foster home for him through an animal rescue group. It is in a regular home with a retired school teacher and she loves cocker spaniels. She actually has 6 of them, mostly seniors like our 14 year old. It's her hobby it seems. We brought him over there on Sunday and he seemed to get along with all the other ones.

The good news is we can come visit him anytime we want and we can possibly bring him back home after our daughter gets off all her medicine. (She's been on steroids now for 6 months and needs to be off of them.) Allergy shots are not an option yet since she's too young for them. I'm hoping that this works out because we are out of options.

We've been stressing about what to do now for months, this is definitely been a very hard decision.

Sandy - I hear ya about the temps, it was 4 here this morning. I thought the last episode of the Dead was a pretty good one, should be interesting to see what twists await them in their new surroundings.

Mornin all.

Darrell. I'm glad you found a place. I'm sure its been real tough being in that situation.

Mike, I've always enjoyed the ivories as well. But I never did learn to play the piano, so I'm also fond of the Brass since thats what I know.

Sandy, Did Larry have an issue that last time they had scenes showing homosexuality? I don't understand the purpose of it. What is the next thing they are going to incorporate because its pc?

Scot. I do too. Sometimes I'll google and see what comes up. I know there are a lot of 'the rest of the stories' that I haven't heard.

Jamesbo. They are calling for # to *" for us starting tonight. Mom borrowed the Hoopdee to go pick up her new tiller and now my clutch chatters.. Oh well. It is a plow truck.

Allan Thanks, But no go. Maybe By the weekend.

Have a humpday all.

Mawn'in all

I'm stay'in under de covers de Weather man has predicted the end of time + dooms day wit a whopp'in 3" of snow.

No, I'm not gonna go buy bread and Milk. I'm buying rotten potatoes and dog food.

For reasons I really don't understand de cemetery has been REALLY busy. Dat plus $hitty weather makes fer a full day.

De Super model took a load of fire wood to my step son in my 4x4 so, I'm stuck wit pos Trail blazer. If I ever rob a bank it would be de perfect get away car. There are so many de same color as hers I can't find it in a parking lot.

Allan, De water in my dog's bowl keeps freez'in an den thaw'in out. When it sloshes on de drive way, the ice conditions of my "Curling southern style" change. I think I'm gonna stick with possum Frisbee.

Well Olds friends, It's been nice know'in ya. See ya on de utter side.

Ma nature left us a few inches of vanilla surprise in the ice box outside. Spoda stay cold now. Right there with ya Ted, Darrell, Clint and Jim. Mawnin traffic is a real mess.

Jim,kwit wit dat krazzee talk its Jess a bit of weather.

Mike, now that's what you call pea soup.

Clint, hope you're wrong. Why wait for the weekend?

Darrell, so sorry to hear about de pooch. Glad you can visit anytime tho. Good luck with the daughters treatments.

No surprise Chad Littlefield and Chris Kyles killer Eddie Ray Ralph was found guilty. Too bad society has to support scum like that for the rest of his life behind bars.

Well guess I should go out and take the snowman off the car and shovel the drive and walks. Now all de potholes will be harder to see. Enjoy your day.
