Morning guys and gal

Kind of wet this morning but better wet then snow. Thanks for the thoughts all. As I get older and my friends become fewer I cherish each one more. Even though I have not been very active on this thread for quite awhile I still follow it all the time to stay abreast of what is going on in everyone's lives. I still consider the group here as a family and it is fun to read the banter back and forth between you. Well enough sentimental stuff.

Have a great weekend all

Hey Pat, nothing wrong with sentimental stuff. Good to hear from you.

Most of what we got from the blizzard melted away and we were down to about a foot of it on the ground. But, the kids said we needed more and mother nature listened. We're getting a few more inches right now as we speak.

Was kind of hoping to get my Cutlass or 63 Riv out of the garage but it looks like I have to wait longer. Oh well.

Hope everyone had a great day.

nytol....

Hope everybody had a decent Saturday. Here are the promised pic's of the making of the marmalade... very simple recipe, but takes O so long due to prepping of the fruit. Definitely something to do once every blue moon when you have the time; but also definitely worth it. Next time, I will really "can" the stuff to preserve. But I'm stuck with a huge batch. I've given away a couple jars, but I'll still have to freeze some.
Have a great resto'weekend, Oldsmobuddies.... Gorgeous, cool weather down here in the swamps these days....

And here's the final product

Shown above is the "lab," a few of the cleaned and chopped fruit, the pump and pips (which were wrapped in cheezecloth and cooked with the fruit to render pectin), some whole, washed fruit, and the cut and cleaned fruit, with juice of a whole lemon, before cooking with water and sugar.

Below is the final product after I removed a couple cups to save for the relatives. Yum-yum

Hey good morning everyone.

Bright, sunny morning out. And in the 20s. I thought it was supposed to be in the 60s this weekend. I thought wrong.

Got a lot done on the van yesterday. Got the oil changed. Got the serpentine belt on. Man the old one was so worn it was split in a couple places and came off in shreds. Also it seems the motor once had a smog pump but someone took it off. Hm. I also get to replace the upper radiator hose since I took the fan shroud off to get at the belt, and started the engine with the hose hanging down a little too far. I thought, what's that noise?

Bought front shocks but they were yellow, and I thought that would look weird so I painted them black. I'll put those on today. About the only thing left is a radio and I won't make it to the junkyard, so maybe I'll go to Best Buy and see what I can get for reasonable. I hate Best Buy but they're the only place around.

John I've never had a cumquat. My Mom used to make crabapple jelly. That was rather time consuming as well.

Darrell which headlights does your Riv have, the ones in the grille or the stacked ones in the fenders? I think hideaway headlights are about the coolest. Patrick Swayze had both kinds in Roadhouse.

Well Walmart and the aforementioned Best Buy this morning, then more work on the van. And of course it all starts with Awful house. I'll take note of the inspection score and report back.

Now Jamesbo I've said this before. I don't go to the Awful house for the food. A good friend of mine works there and I go to see him. Since I've been going there for 9 years I'm friends with a lot of the other people, too. And this is the only Awful house I go to. The others around here are old and gross, and so are most of the ones I've stopped at while traveling. By the way, the inspection report wasn't posted where it usually is. The last one must not have gone too well.

Best Buy, as usual, was a waste of time. Besides not having what I wanted, there were no people to ask for help. That's okay, I just get a deer in the headlights look when I ask for something that plays cassettes.

Out to the van.

Good evening All

Quite brisk today and windy.

Mike I may have a radio with cassette player down at my shop. I'll have to check. I know I've got a few but I believe the one I have is still in the box. I understand the reasoning for the WH you frequent, kinda like the Cheers sitcom theme song

John I am on the fence about cumquats. I disliked them earlier in life but I know taste buds change and would be willing to give them another try at some point.

Jamesbo there used to be a mill here by the lake where I live and also a mill down by Houston Lake but it was a century ago. Good places to metal detect Anyway you just cannot beat fresh stone ground grits

Welcome to the Good Morning Thread Bill

I'm old school too , but I'm not sure why anyone would want a cassette player today . You can't get cassettes anymore , and the ones that are around are no good anymore . I think they have a better shelf life then 8-track tapes , but are no good after awhile .

Morning all, another overcast day today At least it isn't too hot.

Clint those plates were on the Honda before it got smashes. Over here if you pay for personnel plates you can keep them and put them on any car you want but they can only go on one car at a time which makes sense. If they get unreadable then you have to pay to get them remade.

Allan, I was told the part I broke was called the hemispherical something a rather, I always just called it the ring gears or diff center

Have fun this weekend Sandy, try not to party too hard hehe

Jamesbo do you have a house up in the mountains or just a cabin?

Good to hear from you Pat. Sad about your mate though

Time to drop Minette off at school, have a good start to the week everyone,

Adrian

Good evening everyone.

Well it wasn't as good of a day working on the van as yesterday. I got the upper hose on okay but the shroud kicked my ***. Everything is so compact in the front of a van there just wasn't any room to move things around. I'm not convinced it's in there properly but it's secure and nothing is hitting. After that the seemingly simple task of replacing front shocks was equally frustrating. The front end is up on ramps, so I was laying under the van and I couldn't compress the new shock and get it in place before it would extend too far to fit. After several times of this, it was getting late and cold, and I had had it. I put the old one back on and I will have a bouncy ride to Florida.

Bryan all the stuff I listen to on a long trip is on cassette. I have a few CDs but would rather listen to my old stuff. Really, I haven't heard much that is better than the 80s stuff I have. I bet someone's got a boom box or something I can put batteries in and set on the front seat. The Corvette has an 8-track. I could ask for one of them. I'm a little young for a 4-track.

Scot you're absolutely right about Cheers. When strangers walk into Awful house everyone shouts Hello! But when a regular walks in everyone shouts his name. It's cool.

I need to take the dogs to the vet tomorrow for shots. I don't like for them to do it when they board, because I don't want the dogs to associate the unpleasantness of shots with staying there alone. This way I'm there with them and they come home with me. -Several- of the shots they get are not required by law, but a matter of policy by the guy that owns the place. He says, something might get in and affect all the other animals and it would be hard to get out of the building. I think it's pocket-lining.

Well everyone have a good start to their week. February is about over already. Where the heck did it go?

Evening All!

I missed you all weekend! Been a busy one here. We had snow here yesterday. Sun and on/off flurries yesterday morning, but got dumped on last night. It was terrible driving home from the wedding last night. Just awful. Got about 6 inches of the crap. It was coming down hard all the way home. Strongsville is not that far from Cleveland and the lake. It was big flakes of snow, the roads were all just white, couldn't tell where any of the lanes were. Cars were sliding around. I did not like driving in it at all. I had to stop once and clear the ice off the wipers. It was a mess!!! When we got back here to the house, it was 11:00, and the plow hadn't been down our road yet. The storm moved East, so what I drove through followed us. I worried about David and Jean driving back to their house in it, in Dave's pick up with no weight in the back. But they made it ok.

The wedding was beautiful! Nicole and I had a great time. George (the groom) looked so handsome, and Emily (the bride) was beautiful. It was a nice ceremony and the reception was fun. I only had 4 jello shots and one cocktail. They had chicken, rigatoni, prime rib, mashed potatoes, corn, salads and rolls to eat. Lots and lots of alcohol to drink...... They had a beautiful and delicious cake and lots of pastries and desserts.

Emily's mom set up a decorated table with pictures of deceased relatives - Emily's grandma, her great grandma, and Chrissy, George's mom, which I thought was wonderful. They were all there with us. I cried when I saw the picture of George and Chrissy. She would have been sooooo proud to see her boys and David looking so handsome all dressed up. I miss her so much. She would have been my age this past New Years eve. She was married to David, my nephew, and was killed in a car accident the day after Thanksgiving 2003.

After the bride and grooms first dance, after the father/daughter dance, George and his 3 year old had a dance, lol. It was great. Then they announced a special tribute to Christine Brown, George's mother, and they played Bette Midler singing "The Rose", which was Chrissy's favorite song and we had played it at her funeral. Well poor George just broke down and grabbed me, I started crying, Emily came and danced to it with George, and I went and got David and drug him out on the floor and we danced. All of our side of the family crying like fools, lol. I was so touched by Emily's mother including that tribute. She hugged me and I thanked her so much. I thought it was just wonderful. Chrissy was there with us! They also had a nice tribute written in the wedding 'program' or whatever it's called, for the deceased family members in rememberence.

So today my eyes are all puffy, lol. Today is Lin's 60th birthday. We had snow again all morning but the sun finally came out. Nicole and I met Jean in Rootstown and she rode with us out to Tina's house for Lin's surprise party. Tina had told Lin that she wanted her to have dinner with her and the kids, so Lin was clueless. Bobbi and her kids came as did Ronnie and Julie. Linda was really startled when we all jumped out and yelled 'surprise'! It was great. She cried for a minute, lol.

It was fun. We had a taco dip and Tostidos, a sandwich platter and a veggie platter, chips and dip. I got her an ice cream cake from DQ. She really enjoyed it. We left around 5.

So I had a busy running around weekend. Managed to get the sweeper ran in the house and the laundry done in between running, lol.

Yesterday morning I got Tincanio E-checked (I hate that place just on principle), of course she passed. Then I took her to the car wash and got her all cleaned up so we wouldn't get salt all over us if we happened to brush up against it. Came home and swept her out and wiped down the interior. She was all clean for us in our nice wedding clothes, lol. Clean until that blizzard last night, lol. Today she's all salty and looks like crap again. Such is life in NE Ohio I guess. I've had my fill of winter already. Spring can get here any time.....

I have to get my pics loaded on my computer, then I'll post some. Well I better start getting things ready for work, hard to believe it's gonna be Monday already. Wish we had the day off.... I could use it!

Have a good evening all.

Happy Dead Presidents' Day

Off today; nice to sleep in until 6 .
Sounds like a very nice occasion, Sandy. Glad you enjoyed it. It sounds as if anybody left hungry (or sober?) it was his own fault. Hope the new Swamp People didn't disappoint. Since I don't have cable, I can't watch 'em.

Scot, I remember tasting kunquats when I was a kid and disliking them; then I tasted them again a month or so ago and they tasted like citrus candy! Tastes defintely do change. So they're great right off the tree, but the marmalade is really to die for, IMHO. I've been making biscuits and generously slathering 'em with butter (have to say that instead of "Brummel & Brown," 'cause Jamesboy is listening) and marmalade.

I have the factory 6-disk JBL CD changer w/ cassette player in the Camry and still play my 20-30 yr. old cassettes (the ones that survived Katrina) and they still sound the way they did back then. But generally they don't sound as good as the CDs. Most of them I made from my LPs (records). It's fun listening to them, tho', cause I took so much time recording them when I was younger.... I loved to put just the songs I liked from the albums, instead of including the ones you had to suffer through.

BTW, here is the coffee grinder we bought each other for Christmas... it feels like it's made out of lead and seems built like a tank. Only issue is that it just has an "on" & "off" --> you either time it yourself or eyeball the grinds; you used to be able to set the old cheapo according to how many scoops to grind. But the coffee is mucho yumbo... especially when we throw in a scoop or two of CDM coffee & chicory for a little extra body.

Well, got a long list of stuff to do on my day "off," so let me get at it....

Y'all have a great one....

Late Morning All!

Cold and crisp here this morning. It was 8 degrees when I got up, it's up to 18 now, lol. Supposed to hit 42 degrees by 3 pm they said. Then we get rain and a rain/snow mix overnight and tomorrow. Wish it would just get warm and stay warm...

I spent the morning loading the wedding pics onto Photobucket, lol. Took awhile.

Steve is back today. Guess he did good at the casino they went to on Friday. He got $1532.00 on a penny slot machine! Said he had to fill out the W-9 for taxes or something. They were in NY somewhere.

It's a quiet morning. Only 3 phone calls so far. I suppose some people have the day off. There was still quite a bit of traffic out there this morning. Nicole has class off today, but they have to go on Friday to make up for it. They usually don't have class on Friday's. Doesn't make sense, but what do I know, lol.

The big Pileated woodpecker was out at my suet feeder again this morning! It was there on Saturday morning for a while too. I was beginning to wonder if it left. I think it's a female one, because the male has a red stripe down by it's beak, from what I was reading, and this one doesn't. It's sooooo cool! So friggin big!

I always have a radio on, where ever I am. I love music. I keep my radio in the kitchen on at night while Larry is watching political news and crappy talk shows in the living room. I hate those shows. Music soothes the savage beast......

Well you all have a good day!

Yeah I had everything on cassette at one time too , and had replace a lot of it little by little . My kids got those Ipads , and I found out that you can download a song on them from the computer for free , and then copy it back to the computer , and then it will let you burn it on a CD , so one day recorded a ton of songs that I wanted for free . The quality is not perfect , but I'm sure it's better then a cassette .... Man , I remember back in the day listening to 8-tracks , and in the middle of the song it would switch to another track . Those were the days .

Good Presidents Day All

Sounds like you had a great time and created some great new memories Sandy

Jamesbo I dunno about the refried grits, I don't believe I've had the honor of trying them. Hope your back heals soon, that's one thing you don't want to hurt.

John I too have all of my old cassettes and even 100's of 8-tracks that play like new as well. I am going to have to try the cumquat one more again now that you say that they taste like citrus candy.

Mike I found a stand alone unit for mounting under the dash that ties into your existing radio, you are more than welcome to it if you want. I likes my music too, the best thing that I've found so far is my iPod. It has 8GB of memory so it is now holding over 800 of my favorite songs and a few useful apps.

Adrian I hope you get your pumpkin fixed. I bet Minette is getting big

Well we are about to embark on a quest to find some runch (for the Scooby-Doo fans) Yall have a wondermous day

Happy Presidents Day everyone!

When is George Washington's birthday, anyway? I think it's Feb 20. Being from Illinois, it offends me that they now totally skip over Abraham Lincoln's birthday and combine it with Washington's. Abe probably doesn't think too much of it, either.

Jamesbo I'll ask about the grits, but I think they just take them out back and patch the parking lot with them.

Scot I might take you up on that. That way I can get a fancy CD player and then plug the cassette player into it. My cassettes I made in the 80s still sound great.

Sandy that's Woody Woodpecker out at your feeder. I usually have a radio on as well, it gets too quiet in the house being here by myself, unless of course the dog next door comes out then my dogs come unglued.

Thanks Adrian. I haven't been on a trip this long in quite awhile. The furthest trip I've made with this van is to work.

Well I'm not sure if the vet is even open today, so shots for the dogs may have to wait. I could call, but I think I'll just get the dogs together and drive over there. If they aren't open then we'll get some ice cream.

Ted's simple potato recipe...

Take some Russet potatoes( baking) , roll tater in olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt....bake 45min at 375 . Do not wrap in tin foil and place baking tray on next wrack down to catch the drips. Serve with sour cream and a steak!

It's Family Day here in AB. So most everyone has the day off except those who get paid more $$ to go in. It's pretty quiet and most of us slept in. Nice to have those quiet days round the house.

Adrian - that looks like your carrier that's trashed. Ouch! How'd you do that?

Eric - Hey bud! haven't seen you here on this thread before. Welcome. Enjoy your afternoon cruise.

Ted - mmmmm, yummy.

Jamesbo - sorry about your back. Prolly not a good idea to go out there on a busy bankers day anyhoo.

Mike - sorry to hear about the van. Strange the shock wouldn't go in. Anyway have a safe bouncy trip and remember bad front shocks can also give bad handling.

Ah good evening everyone.

What a glorious day it was here today. Almost hit 60. Sunny, no wind, very pleasant.

Got the dogs their shots today and they're set up for next weekend when I'll be in Florida. We would have had ice cream but it was too close to their supper time and I didn't want to ruin their appetite.

Allan the van isn't too bad as long as I don't go off roading. I do stay attentive while driving it, though, it's an awful big thing to have to push over back onto its wheels or out of the ditch. After eying the shocks a little bit I saw that the bushing going through the bolt hole was not centered and that's why the shock wouldn't go into the bracket. That will need a little adjustment and also next attempt will be with the wheels off the ground.

Anyone heard from A1 Tony lately? He might be snowed in up in the northeast.

Okay Night one of three tonight. Hope everyone's week started good, with an off day.

Mike - you were doing the shocks with it on the ground? You must be purty skinny. I always do mine with the car up in the air and wheels off. Much much easier. I found that the best way to take off front shock bolts/nuts is not to undo them. Just bust em off by over torquing. Front shocks usually end up costing me about 10 minutes a side. Toughest nut is usually the one that goes up through the frame.

Allan besides the van being up on ramps, it's pretty tall anyway so I could get underneath it pretty easy. Also, front shocks on the G van are mounted on the back side of the A arms, with bolts on both ends. I can get to the bolts pretty easily. The reason I want to do it with the wheels off the ground is so everything is extended and I don't have to keep the shocks compressed to install them. And no I'm not purty skinny in the least.

Waiting for my plane to get here. It lands around 1030, then we're going to the gate to bring it back, and have a few operations and a boroscope on one of the engines. Doesn't sound like too bad of a work package.

Mornin' all.... rained like the dickens during the night; we got about an inch around 1 a.m.

Just wet roads this morning, but supposed to be a lovely day, then the clouds move in tomorrow and the wet stuff back by Wednesday. It was about 55* at the Plantation.

Sure didn't feel like getting up this morning; another couple hours would have been just fine.... ;-) Can't wait for this crazy 4 a.m. stuff to be over.

Mike, Washington's b'day is actually 2/22. (I remember 'cause it's also my cousin's b'day.) But Lincoln's b'day is 2/12, so I think that's the main reason it evolved into Presidents' Day in some states. (Presidents' Day is not an official Federal holiday. The Fed's still refer it to George Washington's Birthday Observed (!).

Y'all have a great Tuesday; hope yer back is doin' better, Jamesbo.

Morning All!

Raining here, but it's a lovely 41 degrees right now! Windy as all get out too. Guess we have high wind warnings into tomorrow morning. Temps to drop during the day and snow moving in. The rain really melted the crap already on the ground. Enough already.....

Mike... have fun on your trip!

Jamesbo.... I love that sign, lol! No, I don't know where that county is. That's just the way it is pretty much anywhere in W.VA, lol! Hope your back is feeling better. Brian bought a nice little 380 pistol last Friday. It was on sale here at Gander Mountain for $400. His wife picked it up for him and brought it in. It has that red laser light. I liked it.... felt nice and comfy. I might get me one of those to tote around. Its really hard to find ammo around here these days......

Lincoln was always my favorite president. I've forgotten so much of what I learned about him, but he used to fascinate me for some reason when I was in school. I used to read and read about him. Maybe cause he was a reader too or something, I dunno. But I always liked him.

Did we take bets on Nicole's job, lol? She just texted me and said she got a call from the lady at the vet's office saying that the Dr. said they have too many people and for her not to come in because her and the other girl they hired were 'let go'. I don't know whether to believe it or not.... she sounds really mad about it. Who knows.

I'm gonna post a few pics from the wedding. I know guys just LOVE to look at such things, lol.

Meet some of my family, lol.

From right to left..... My nephew David, his son Richard, his son George (the groom), my oldest sister Jean (David's mom), Kathy, David's daughter.

My Chrissy (the kid's mom) with George back in the 80's

Emily, the bride, and that is Kathy's son and daughter on the left with her.

Me, Nicole and Jean

Me and Nicole

Have a good day all!

You're funny, Jamesbo!

Well it sure got cold here late morning. Temp was 30 when I walked at lunch. It's icing up out there now, flurries are in the air. It's down to 26 now. It's been a slow and boring day in here.

Clint... glad you got your tags! I hate standing in line... I gotta go do that the end of the month.

Hey everyone.

What a nice day. Was sunny and 60 when I woke up this afternoon. Hope it holds out for awhile.

Sandy nice pictures of the family. I can't recall when the last wedding was that I went to, but I don't think I got in any of the pictures. That's okay.

Jamesbo I've slept on a heated waterbed for the best part of 34 years. Best thing for a back ever. I tried making fried bologna sandwich once, it didn't turn out like it was supposed to.

Well I hope everyone has a good evening. I wouldn't mind if work was about the same as last night. Got the plane, did our work, went home. No drama.
