The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Chris - I'm not trying to throw a wrench in your transmission fluid evaluation; however, you'll gain a better indication of a leak, small or large, after you drive it & bring the transmission fluid to normal operating temperature. As the fluid heats up it expands, as the fluid expands it becomes less viscous (thinner) & easier to seep. Take your beast for a little cruise then check the leak again.

Norm - I think you missed in my post that after I had worked on the area of the leak, I took it out for a drive. Not a real long drive, but long enough to get it up to operating temp, about 190° for several miles before pulling it back in the garage. Nary a hint of a drop forming, and none since I parked it.
It's sat for over 4-hours now and no sign of new leakage on the coupling or anywhere else...I'll check it again in a few hours and again in the morning.
I very well may be wrong, but I figured that if I checked it once hot and there was no sign of new leakage I was probably OK? After it was dry after being hot, I just thought it had probably just been a slow leak when cold and sitting for 2-weeks. I guess I'll find out in the morning if I head out to the Show and it starts leaking again after it's hot for a long time?

Good morning everyone.
Raining this morning, and I thought it would, so it will be inside stuff today. The temps are way down and are to remain that way for the next several days. A welcome relief.
Got a bit of a problem with my phone. In this the "new" house I have always had poor reception. Calls drop while in the house, have to stand in the yard to talk, poor performance from the laptop using the hot spot. It has actually gotten a little better over time, I can talk in the house, the laptop runs fairly smoothly, but lately I get zero service. I get message on the phone to the effect of, searching for service, waiting for service, something like that. Can't call or text out, won't run the laptop. Been happening for a few days. Then it's fine. Completely random, at least to me. Called Verizon. Why I can call them and no one else baffles me. After about an hour on the phone with him, he tried resetting this and switching that, he said the only way I can get good service is with a signal booster. He said Verizon will send me one for free. The trouble is, it runs on wi-fi and I don't have that. So the question is, how do I get wi-fi? Verizon wants 45 a month that to me is throwing good money after bad. Do I have to get it from some other phone or cable company? I don't have cable in the house. This is rather troubling, not only because I don't have reliable service for myself, but if Mom were to need me there's no guarantee she could get me. Unacceptable. So last night I went to bed with no service and this morning it's working fine. So much for their reliable 5G network.
Chris a drip is never good and it sounds like you've licked it, but something that small, don't stress. It won't hurt a thing. My old cars have leaked for years. Just keep an eye on the fluid level and don't park in the living room. Hope the ladies have a safe trip and a great time!
Gonna go get ready for the day. Awful house for lunch. Laundry, cleaning, that sort of thing. Hope everyone has a great one.

Chris, not uncommon to get leaks on the th400, not the end of the world. My '71 would leak after a run, depositing a puddle on the concrete. The loss was insignificent, just annoying. If it's from the speedo cable at the trans, a new "O" ring should do it. if it's at the rear, it will need to be serviced, which could get expensive. I lucked out, instead of $600+, it was $145.00. As it is now, it will not affect driveability nor performance.
Mike - As you'll recall when I 1st suggested enabling/using your cell phone as a hotspot, it was to enable you to get on the Internet & use the Internet while traveling, away from home, etc. via the hotspot mobile phone connection on your cell phone. This was w/ your previous laptop. In terms of connections, nothing has changed regarding use of your cell phone hotspot. The cell phone is acting/operating as a 'bridge' - allowing your cell phone to provide a connection for other devices e.g. your laptop. The caveat is this is a Wi-Fi cellular network (like your phone) uses a SIM card to broadcast/receive signals. A router does not use a SIM card.
There are two basic types of Wi-Fi signals: (1) Cellular Wi-Fi uses the mobile network provided by your cellular carrier via cell towers. NOTE: I stated your cellular carrier. NOTE: This is not the same as a Wi-Fi signal delivered via an Internet Service Provider (ISP) via a router.(2) A Wi-Fi signal (not a cellular Wi-Fi signal) uses a router to deliver a Wi-Fi signal. Wi-Fi and cellular Wi-Fi do not overlap - they are independent of each other. One, cellular uses a series of network repeaters (cell towers). Wi-Fi does not use the series of network repeaters (cell towers). Wi-Fi simply means Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi).
In summary: (1) A cellular device (e.g. cell phone) uses a network of cell towers (as repeaters) to provide a Wi-Fi signal i.e. why it's called a "cellular" Wi-Fi network; (2) A Wi-Fi network uses a router to route digital packets of information and it does so w/o the use of a Wi-Fi cellular network. It is essentially a more dedicated network employing radio signals from a Wi-Fi router i.e. the type of device (router) found in your home (ISP), a hotel (ISP), a mall (ISP), a restaurant (ISP), business (ISP), etc.
Obviously, a cellular network is highly dependent on coverage area. A cellular network is a far wider network geographically but again, cellular devices employ a SIM card to broadcast/receive cellular Wi-Fi signals. If your only means of communication is via a cellular Wi-Fi network you are completely dependent on your cellular provider. As you know, some cellular providers have better coverage than other cellular providers i.e. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Mobile, US Cellular, etc. Want to confound this? Let's provide additional clarity so it has some meaning for you. Depending on your cellular provider, most of the better cellular providers provide digital cellular 'roaming' (some do not). And, I'll say this - the type of 'roaming' providing by a cellular provider is entirely dependent on which cellular provider you have. Example: Someone has Verizon, but Verizon has limited or no cellular service in an area. If Verizon has not provided the ability to 'roam' (pick up a signal) on another cellular providers network) - you're **** out of luck, plain & simple.
Allow me to mention two things: (1) You are currently entirely dependent on your cellular provider for providing ANY cellular Wi-Fi signal and that signal is strictly/entirely dependent on your SIM card & a network of cell towers. You reside near an airport - did you know cell towers are positioned & directed away from airport radio signals (traffic) for obvious reasons? Metal buildings, glass, etc. all play a role in cellular connectivity. (2) By far, without any question of doubt, the best dedicated Wi-Fi signal you can obtain is via an ISP router installed in your home.
Finally, I'll mention this (since you may have a newer style laptop, notebook, etc.). These are generally top of the line devices used by businesses w/ critical needs. Some of the newer laptops have a built-in SIM card which allows the device to use the cellular Wi-Fi network.
Cellular provider coverage is either GREAT or SUCKS in many areas of the entire country (planet for that matter). Since you're entirely dependent on Verizon's Wi-Fi cellular network via your phone's SIM card (1) you can try a different cellular provider and hope for the best; or, (2) install a modem which contains a built-in router into your house as a dedicated Wi-Fi signal from your ISP. Your best choice is to install a modem/router from an ISP.
EDIT: Sorry, I should point this out since it's maybe not obvious. The modem/router you install at your home has a dedicated Wi-Fi inside. Therefore, you are broadcasting your dedicated Wi-Fi signal from the Wi-Fi adapter contained inside the modem/router.

Norm - No leakage overnight. I went to the Car Show this morning. Drove the first 25-miles on interstate at 65mph, then stopped at a convenient point. Tranny fluid was checked and was full. Checked the spot of the leak and it was dry. Drove another 26-miles to the Show mostly on Interstate. Got here and no sign of leakage. So far, so good!

FWIW & anyone interested. Instead of renting or buying a modem/router from an ISP, I own my own (Motorola) modem/router. Modem is a rather evil term these days since we've significantly departed from any notion of a modem - either physically (e.g. hardware) or otherwise (software). Albeit, the term router is far more appropriate. There are many advantages of owning your own router, but you'll need to be up-to-speed on configuring a router. Both IP (Internet Protocol) & UDP (User Datagram Protocol) protocols can be configured to allow/disallow any IP/UDP port traffic (plus a ton of other **** y'all likely don't care to be involved with). Point is you can configure all/any network traffic into/out of your network because router ownership provides the s/w to configure your own dedicated firewall (which is what I do). Have a nice day.
Chris takes care of his car to a level most of us should aspire towards. However, as an engineer, these beasts are designed with reservoirs and that means a TH400, an engine, the brakes, the radiator, the power steering, and the rear end will all work fine at 50% capacity of their rated reservoir volume. If one makes a habit of checking fluids routinely, one will never be caught short, even with a moderate leak, especially if one carries fluids spares.
My 72 burns some oil, about a quart in 500 miles. So, I take some with me. I also take some for other people. I was happy to send my friend on his way with a needed quart of his and mine brand and viscosity of oil from H/OCA nats back to Virginia, some 700 miles and I used what was left in the other bottle. Tools, fluids, and the usual suspects small components are good to take. Of course, that means I fill my trunk up with stuff.

Thanks Norm. I was at lunch telling my friends of my dilemma and it occurred to me that it might have something to do with the airport. My neighbor said no one gets good cell reception around here. For simplicity I should just fork over the extra 45 a month to Verizon for wi-fi. I would imagine every other place I could get it would be within a few dollars. This is the **** that makes me mad. For what I pay Verizon every month there should be excellent service in place that I don't ever have to worry about. You can't tell me there is no technology that would give me good service around a rinky dink little airport. I mean, the phone works just fine at my work, and that's a really big airport. I realize Verizon is in the business of fleecing me of my money, not helping me.
Hope Chris enjoys the show today. I always look forward to his pictures so I can live vicariously.
I can hardly stand up. Had some pain when I woke up this morning but nothing I can't handle. Went to the Awful house for lunch and sat on one of the metal chairs for two hours and my back hurts so bad I can hardly walk. Nothing helps. I took ibuprofen this morning and that hasn't done anything. I usually take acetaminophen but grabbed the ibuprofen first. Won't make that mistake again. Think I'll go over to Mom's early and sit in my recliner with a heating pad.

Mike - I’m outdoors on my phone working in the yard. I’ll bet your Verizon support tech/rep didn’t check the 5G “band” you are using? Like most communication devices the signals (esp. cellular mobile signals) operate at a specific band or within a range of bands. You can change this on your own on your cell phone. Often times changing the band can provide a much better signal. You can look this up on your own or wait until I get inside later to help you out. Sometimes it’s even more appropriate to use the 4G network instead of the 5G network. You can also switch your network on your own on your phone. It might appear like roulette, yet when you’re located in poor connection areas/zones such as you are, try switching band or networks or both.
Here's a revelation. I bet it's the phone itself. I was at Mom's and it was doing the same thing. I have never, ever had trouble with service at that house. The phone is about 7 years old, been dropped a couple times, cracked screen, etc. But not working at Mom's, I think that tells it.
So, time for a new phone. I hate the thought of spending a grand for a fricken' phone. Now's the perfect time to change companies. In my experience Verizon has about the best service, but if you have a problem, they are hell to work with. They are also expensive and will outright lie to you. But who to go with? One of the other big names? One of the cheep, never heard of companies? I also don't see me changing phone numbers. Had this one too long. I'll research tomorrow because I'll need to do something Monday.
My back does not feel better. I sat in my recliner with the heating pad and it felt better right away, but as the evening went on I reached the point of diminishing returns. It's just too hot in the house and it was uncomfortable. I took my last ibuprofen at 3pm, so 7 1/2 hours later I hope it's out of my system. I need to take some acetaminophen before I go to bed. Boy this really sucks.
The plans for tomorrow are on hold until I wake up and see how I feel. No way am I attempting Walmart if I still feel like this. Maybe I should go and buy some booze. One time I hurt my knee, and two Tylenol and a Kahlua and cream really did the trick.

Mike - I have had insurance on every phone I’ve owned. Regardless if broken, lost, stolen etc. I think I pay about $5/month. No hassles they send you a replacement phone pronto. Check to see if your current plan you have insurance.
Regarding phone number. Not to worry you can keep your current number even if you switch cell provider/carrier. In many cases you just transfer the SIM card to the new phone and even then if you get a new SIM card your number can be transferred. Go into your SETTINGS and check your CELLULAR configurations in case they’ve been changed from dropping numerous times.
Sorry about your pain. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Went out to the new place today and put the tractor to the "Tough Cut Mower" (the bush hawg). After some adjustment, I drove out to the field and commenced cutting. I was cutting about mid height of the deck, this was five foot tall grass and weeds. Other than hitting sticks, the only issue was it did get plenty of grass dust on the radiator screen and started to run hot when I was really pushing it. It needed gas anyway. By the time I got back to the shop, the engine trouble light was on.
This is not a OBD code system, it is just a master warning light. It was angry it was overheating. After it sat for a bit, I fired it up, still above normal temp, and the light came back on. I let it cool for 20 min, refueled, and all was fine there on it.
I did hit a huge rock in another field. This was a chunk of concrete debris. It did scrape the center blade and hub, but it appears fine. These are serious blades. It is a different beast from the wide finish mower. 60% of the blades of that mower, but the blades much thicker. I've already got some edge roughness on them. It chews right through the stuff. I did about 2.5 acres of the stuff. This is harder than the grass I have been cutting all year. With the 3.5 acres of yard I normally cut, this puts me at 6 acres of stuff to mow in some form, which makes sense as it is a little over a third of the property.
Back to it tomorrow, I hope.

New mulching blades arrived for the JD Z225 ZT mower, yesterday. I changed them out two yrs. ago. The Indian is on the lift awaiting a tear-down starter R&R & I'm not going to remove the motorcycle (750 lbs) from the lift to change blades on the ZT mower. I can't get the Indian up the slight ramp onto the lift by myself (too unstable) so it will remain on the lift. It's pissing rain outdoors & will be the remainder of the day. I'll find some boards to run ZT mower up onto then roll around on the floor awhile to change the blades. Ordered some new spark plugs, air filters & oil filters for it yesterday.
John - Cutting through 5' of plants is significant.
Chris - Hope the gals survived the Tough Mudder & returned safely.
Mike - Hope you're feeling better.

Good morning everyone.
Not a terrific night, couldn't get comfortable, and having to get down the stairs to let Tiger out was next to impossible. But we did it. Finally about 5 I was able to get comfortable enough to sleep more than a few minutes at a time. I started in with acetaminophen and it actually helped. Got zero planned for the day. Mom will have to do without Walmart. No way I could maneuver that place.
Got home last night and the computer fired up and ran as nice as can be. Also this morning. No matter, now is the time to do something different. I haven't completely sworn off Verizon, but they are certainly not the favorite. Also, I really like my LG G8, and LG doesn't make cell phones anymore. So I'll have to figure something out. As long as this thing holds out today I'll do research into other companies also. Norm I've never gotten the insurance on any of my phones. One phone I had, had automatic insurance on it for two years, the amount of time I was paying on it. It went tango uniform about two weeks before the end of the two years, but they said sorry, not covered. No pro-rating, no nothing. You know I think most of the trouble I've had with Verizon has been the local store I go to. Last time I needed to go to a store I went to a different one and they were rather helpful.
Nice out, a little humid and cloudy, the forecast says scattered rain. Eh, I'm staying in today so who cares. I really need a hot tub.
Have a good day everyone.

Hey Mike - Just a reminder (again) - it might be an easy fix. Do check your phone's SETTINGS. Inside SETTINGS evaluate your CELLULAR settings are set correctly. Again, might be the chance the CELLULAR SETTINGS may have changed from dropping/banging the phone.
NEWS FLASH: OK, now I know what phone you have (LG G8). And, of course you currently have Verizon. What you see on any phone will vary depending on the phone and the cellular provider since those two factors establish the software you see or don't see. So, I think on an LG G8 phone w/ Verizon you might find your Verizon network settings located in the SYSTEM settings - not sure. You may also find (instead) a location for NETWORK and INTERNET. I think you get the point where you need to look. Just double-check them buddy, they may have changed, heck the Verizon dude you spoke with should have checked those for you, as well. Hope your pain begins to subside. Think I'll change some mower blades.

Here's a couple pics, there will be more later after I get some of the best ones from Dawn.
The Car Show was very nice yesterday. Great weather, great location, great turnout, and well run. I was in the '64 - '69 Stock Class and placed 3rd, which I was very thankful for because the competition was stiff! Here's a link to the pics

After the Car Show, I had to high tail it home, get a quick shower, bite to eat, get the dogs out, and head to Hillsboro about 20-miles away to pick up Gabe at the County Fairgrounds where he was working parking with his Boy Scout Troop for a truck/tractor pull. Gabe's Dad had to stay until the end, his Mom was with Dawn, so I was his only way to practice 40-miles away in Arnold. I made it to the Fairgrounds in time to get him to his practice by 7:30, which didn't get over until 8:50, and didn't get home until around 9:15. Long day for me too!
Now to catch up on what you hooligans have been up to!
Chris - Sounds like a Tough Mudder - better them than me. LOL I had enough of that in basic training thank you very much. Bouncing around to grab Gabe sounds like some logistics. I haven't been to a truck/tractor pull in forever it seems. Last one I attended was in Northern California (outside Eureka) about a dozen years ago. About those mower blades...I better shake a leg.................................
Mike - Don’t know what your SETTINGS look like but something which may be helpful. On a 5G network you may see 5G Auto that should be your preference. If you see something like 5G Only change it to 5G Auto. If you’re set to 5G Only the phone will continually take a **** looking for 5G if it doesn’t find 5G (bad mojo in your case). 5G Auto means if it can’t find 5G it will use whatever band (often the best network band) it can find (which could be 4G) - point is 5G Auto will find another network band when 5G isn’t available.
Norm - Apparently I was not "Golden", just Silver. I put a pan under the area of the leak when I put the car away yesterday afternoon. There was some leakage overnight. Not alot, but some. I'm very reluctant to tighten the Speedo coupling nut anymore for fear of stripping it and/or making the leak worse than it is. I don't know the mechanical configuration, but I'd bet there's some type of seal inside the coupling housing that's worn out that no amount of additional tightening on the coupling nut will correct. I'm going to leave it as it is right now and monitor it closely.
I appreciate you guys weighing in on this issue and your advice!
Chris - I think Dan mentioned an O-Ring? I’m on my phone changing blades. I’ve changed out a couple Speedo gears, etc on trannies a pretty simple deal. You have the 67 CSM? May be included in the CSM? I don’t own a 67 CSM. If there is a seal or O- Ring (often a kit) I’d change it when you find it - simple deal.
Chris, tough gals, cool that they did that mudder run. Make sure that you have a sizable pan under the trans when you undo the speedo cable. I went to a car show on weds. another small one Friday afternoon at a nursing home, maybe 30 cars. They bring the residents out to see the cars, walk or push (wheelchairs), and they seem to enjoy it. The director/manager? of the facility, was a young guy in his early 40's who thought that it was a good idea to get his residents out, rather than sitting inside. Nice guy, and enthusiastic. Could have gone to a show today, but I need to unwind a bit, and be lazy.

I'm having to prune out then remove a large Rosemary bush which has flourished for ~15 yrs. Last year something sent it into a dizzy 1/2 dead 1/2 alive w/ some type disease. It will soon be completely dead. 💀 😂
Mower blades changed out a couple hrs. ago. Scraped a couple yrs. of dried matted debris detritus from underside of mowing deck. I have too many plants - all perennials. Takes me two full days just to trim & weed wack. Nice weather to be outdoors though. Tee-time 9:00 am tomorrow.

Funny you mentioned about having a catch pan ready when I get to replacing the Speedo seal, my next question was going to be how much fluid should I expect to lose in the process, do you have a guess? I definitely want to have enough on hand for whatever is lost.
I’ve used 5 gal. buckets as catch pans instead of buying catch pans. Remnants from drywall plaster & other such stuff. I take a sharp/fresh utility knife and cut them all the way around about 6” from the bottom.
Thanks Norm! I've already got more catch pans than Carter's got pills!
