Chris knows I'm jes funning with him. There are so many regional differences in cooking it's amazing. Must be 3000 different way to make vegetable soup . 10000 different chili recipes and 2000 Brunswick stew recipes
Like the lady said when she kissed the cow "It's all a matter of taste"
As a general rule, I like a saucy/spicey main dish with a more bland side or vice versa
I have a lawyer friend whose wife was getting tested for an indirect donor [to get higher on the list ] and he found out, she was a perfect match. One in a zillion occurrence
--Chris, good luck to your BIL. That is kinda what happened to me, about kidney cancer.
Greg - Thanks for the well wishes for my BIL, much appreciated! They are not sure yet if they'll be able to do a partial, or have to take the whole kidney yet? My wife has her pre-op appointment with the 2nd specialty surgeon (2 surgeon team for next surgery) tomorrow, then the next step is scheduling the surgery. Depending on what this next surgeon says, my wife is going to see if she can safely put off the surgery until late summer/early fall so she's not laid up during the nice weather. We'll see, but I'd rather her get it out of there and hopefully be done within it, but I don't want to be selfish, so I won't put on any additional pressure,,she sure doesn't need that.
Congrats on selling the boat so quickly! Sounds like you got a decent price and very nice of you to let it go to the older couple!
I slept too late, must have been tired and needed to catch up a little. Spent a huge amount of time yesterday trying to deconflict medical bills and calling the hospital billing to ask them why they couldn't do simple bookkeeping, especially in today's electronic age??? Very frustrating, although they agreed with me on the error I found, but this is already the 4th time I've found an error where they were trying to charge us again for a service that was previously paid for by our insurance or us. I asked to to speak to a supervisor yesterday and spoke to her about their billing history with us to date, and assured her I had it documented down to a Nat's ***, and said I sure hope things improve so the State Medical Board doesn't have to receive a detailed complaint about their billing practices. The Supervisor apologized and said they will try to do better. I doubt they will. I can't imagine the amount of poor people that get raped for medical services because they don't have the knowledge or the time to deal with these num nuts. It's sad.
Wifey's B-day today! We're going out to dinner to celebrate this afternoon. She recently found a really pretty antique furniture piece online that she was wanting, but held off buying it, wanting to see if it would come down in price a little, but then it sold. Well, I bought it, but she doesn't know! We'll take a little detour after leaving the restaurant this evening, and when she asks me where I'm going, I'll let her in on her B-day surprise!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Work was slow. We were short wheels a couple times today, the lead was nowhere to be found. Then at the end of the day he comes up and says we need to do a better job tomorrow. He scolds us and expects us to be responsible for his unrealistic goals. This shop has been there a long time. Everyone knows what can get done in a day and what can't when something goes wrong. We actually had enough people today and they did a good job. Eh, I don't care. I do what's expected of me.
Roof guy was just here. He didn't even have to go up on the roof or get out the drone. He could see everything he needed to just standing in the yard. His estimate will be quite a bit higher than that third party guy, I hope I don't get a lot of grief out of the insurance company.
Beautiful out. Hot standing in the sun. Rain this weekend I think but that's okay, I'm gonna sign up for overtime.
Off to Mom's. Not enough time to do any mowing, I'm sure I can find something to get into.

Thanks Dan. It's always hard for me to think of what to get her. Luckily, in this case I knew it's something she really wanted. When I pulled into the drive of the Antique Store owned by the seller, she knew what was up, and teared up!
Had a really nice B-day dinner and a couple of ice cold Dos Equis Darks at a great Mexican place that has a killer Macho Nachos that has steak, chicken, pork, shrimp, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, and a ton of queso cheese. Best Nachos I've ever had!
Here's the Antique chest I bought for her. I have no idea how old it really is, but it looks really, really old and rustic because you can tell all the boards comprising the chest and the draws inside are hand hewn.
Hope everyone is having a great day! I still need to get out and mow, not relishing that thought on a very full belly!

Chris (AKA Ralph) - Very nice gesture for your wife. About that chest. I think it's a later date chest than what I'm going to suggest, but it's of the style they used during the stage coach days w/ the removable trays and the size appears to be about correct (although I can't tell the size from the picture). I think lots of the older ones were finished in leather & perhaps the newer ones were mostly wood? Does it have handles or straps on the sides? Reminds me of the style you'd see in the back of an old horse-drawn or automobile buggy, as well. She'll have fun with it. Those nachos are huge.
Mike - I doubt the insurance company will have any qualms regarding the estimate. You have a deductible you have to meet anyways and you should be able to choose a preferred roofer.
Chris - I was trying to come up w/ the correct name. I think it's called a travel trunk?
Norm - Thanks for the analysis. It does have rather heavy duty metal handles on the ends. When I have time, I'm going to do a closer inspect of the joints, fasteners, lock, etc., and try to date it. I enjoy doing that kind of sleuthing!
James - I'm clueless as to why it'd be called a Lap Desk? This thing is 41 inches long × 16 inches wide x 15 inches tall, I sure as hell wouldn't want it on my lap???
Chris, After looking at a plethora of different trunks on line, I'm still not sure what the style is. But my advice is to sell the sucker and buy a Lambo. These things are high as a cats back
Good job, Ralph, you old romantic guy, you. No, seriously very thoughtful.
Remember when I was talking about bats in my attic and over in the barn? Well last winter I ordered a bat house online. Couple days ago I mounted it on a utility pole in the yard. I hope they will get in that house and stay as I like them around to get the mosquitos, etc. Just NOT IN MY HOUSE!! Meanwhile I got the Olds out of storage and parked it in other side of barn and I have noticed bat crap on it! Apparently they poop from a ceiling beam and then go somewhere else to sleep for the day. They have pooped and maybe pissed on the Olds in 3 places, mostly on the trunk lid. I really don't mind them in the barn, except DON'T SH*T ON MY OLDSMOBILE!!.

James - Thanks for the insight! She always does alot of investigation on her pieces so she can provide the correct period age in the description and price it correctly. She's become very good at dating things and knows where all the websites are that provide information of that type. It'd be pretty cool if it turns out to be pre-1900 or older!
Speaking of which, Has anyone [besides me] ever wondered why in the middle of the Civil war 1862. Someone said, " I think I'll invent another steak sauce" A -1

Ding, ding, ding, ding, my wife just told me the exact same thing, mid to late 1800's, of the type that would be used by a traveling tradesman like a carpenter or blacksmith by the plain, rustic, heavy duty style and heavy duty handles.
In regard to A1, maybe a shortage of higher quality beef during the war necessitated the need for a sauce to mask the taste of the lesser quality????
My left rotator cuff has still not healed well at all. Using a 20’ extension telescopic pole cleaning mold, mildew, etc. from the North side of my man-cave proves it.
Sometimes things get turned on/off after a device software update or you need a software update (check to see if you have the current software version for your Android device).
These things are controlled by robots on the planet Betelgeuse.

Norm - Very sorry to hear your shoulder is still giving giving you pain. Are you still getting physical therapy for it? We're you ever given several Ultra Sound deep heat treatments? I know you probably remember this, but several (probably a dozen over a couple months) of those treatments was the only thing that ever helped mine get better.

Chris - I'm still seeing my massage therapist, but you bring up a valid point. I may need (probably will) look into the Ultra Sound deep heat treatments.

I saw a Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon (same guy that treats the Blues Hockey players) initially for my bad shoulder and he's the guy who wrote the order for the Ultra Sound treatments, along with all the other standard stretching and strengthening regimens.
Just 1730 here right now, and we just got hammered by a storm front with associated tornado warnings. It's primarily past us now and headed towards John's area in Indiana, hope he fairs OK. Just a torrential downpour here for about 20-minutes with fairly high winds and lightning/thunder. Monty's doing better than usual with the storm, not sure why, but glad he is.
Had my wife's pre-op visit with the 2nd Speciality Surgeon at 1130 this morning. All good news, his part will not require cutting on the inside of her, and neither will the other surgeons part, which means it's less complex and her recovery will be easier. The 2 surgeons need to sync their schedule and propose a couple possible dates and then they'll get her on the schedule later this summer. Sure glad we're not still up where the doctor's building is. That area is in the far NW St. Louis area and was hit much harder than we did.
Right now I'm pretty sure I'm going to be entering my car in a show tomorrow in the quaint little town of Washington, MO about 65-miles N/NW of me. The town sits on the south Bank of the Missouri River. The car show is being held in conjunction with an Arts and Crafts Festival they have at this time every year. Right now it's supposed to be a low chance of rain, partly sunny, and a high of around 88 tomorrow. I'm going to have to check for any potential road closures on the route I was going to take due to the extremely heavy rains that moved through.
Hope everyone had a great day!

Supposedly this is my final 2022 U.S. Women's Open Assigned Shifts Schedule. I'm off Friday, I may attend the event as a specator & do something provocative (dark sunglasses required).
Chris, I like the trunk...and the nachos! We really haven't had any severe thunderstorms here, they have been all around me, and some heavy winds and downpours, but no lightening and thunder shows.

Thanks Dan! Glad you've been able to miss the severe weather!
Long day at work. We had to gather as a shop to listen to the leads spew the same stuff they do every day anyway. It's our responsibility to put out the number every day. They took questions. One guy said we can't get parts. The answer, make due. One guy said, all the mechanical stuff breaks down. The answer, do it anyway. Wow that's inspirational. I think a case of blue flu would set them straight, but we aren't that organized.
Beautiful here and hot. I think it got to 92. It's a little humid out right now, but that's fine, the sun is going down.
Not sure what the weekend holds. When he asked for people to come in Saturday and Sunday, he was saying Saturday was probably a go, and Sunday he'd have to wait and see. So far nothing after that. Great way to have to plan your life.
After a lot of thought I bought a Generac home generator. We have a lot of power outages. I have a 4000 watt loud old 8 hp gasoline generator that I can back fed thru a welder plug, but wifey can't do it and it's not getting any easier for me- very heavy. So they were $6147 everywhere I looked, some included shipping, some not. My buddy said check at Menards (which offers 11% off everything in a rebate check. That's where I got it, but had to pick it up at their store. My neighbor is a licensed electrician and he is going to help ( more like supervise) the installation. Wish we had natural gas here, bur we have LP- propane. Biggest drawback is this 22KW generator can use 2 1/2 gallons of LP a hour, which could be 60 gal in 24 hr. You could run out of gas.... Have to get permits from county for electrical and gas piping, well. got all summer to do it.
