Good morning guys,

Well, I am not at the car show. The weather did not cooperate. It stormed hard here again around 3 or 4 in the morning. I waited until around 0900 and test drove the way out of my subdivision to the main roads. There are 2 ways out, one was totally blocked by a large tree down across the road, the other way was still totally wet with alot smaller debris. I know some of the other shaded roads I'd be traveling would still be wet too, so I decided to bag it. Just spent a whole bunch of time getting the car cleaned up after the last rain event, and didn't relish the thought of cleaning on it again after I got up there. There's a car cruise only about 12-miles from me this afternoon/evening and I'm going to plan on going to that. It's supposed to be sunny, breezy, and near 90° here today, so the roads should be nice and dry by later this afternoon. My buddy with the '66 Vette is going to meet me there.

We were supposed to have our annual subdivision yard sale tomorrow, but they're calling for more heavy rain and storms tonight and all day tomorrow. It really doesn't hurt my feelings a bit if the yard sale gets canceled, I hate it, a bunch of crazies, driving like maniacs, trying to pull in your driveway, and trampling across your lawn. The rudeness is pretty unparalleled! My wife likes to walk around and look at the junk, I like my wife, so I'll walk along with her and pretend I'm looking at the junk, then go home to get the car or truck to pick up the junk. . I'm sure glad it's only once a year.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Ordered a new flag about a week and a half ago, got it today. The one that I bought in 2017 was getting a couple of holes in it. I will try to put the new onw up when the weather co-operates. Speaking of weather, Greg, I got an email stating that there was a tornado up in ******* around 4pm, with damage reported. I'll tune into the local newscast @ 6pm to see what updated info that they have on it.

Happy Friday, and to all a good night!

Work was shameful today. The lead showed up and was gone about as quickly. Everyone lollygagged and phuqued around and we didn't finish until 2. On a Friday. No Awful house. I go by there every day now and everyone was long gone. Hope we do better on overtime tomorrow. Although, the people who drag their *** don't show up for overtime so it should be smooth. Should. Today was shameful.

Dan I need to get a nice American flag for the front of my house. Trouble is, I'm too lazy to run it up and down every day. I could get some lights for it, and only take it down when it gets tattered and needing to be replaced. Make sure your American flag wasn't made in China.

I saw on Facepalm where my friend in Colorado posted that there was a snow advisory for the weekend. Ug. He wants me to come visit and I said nope not until July.

Here's a lawn question. How do I get my lawn to be smooth? It has dips and valleys and is uneven. Is there something I can run over it that would flatten out the high spots? Should I get a load of dirt and spread it with my tractor? If I plant quality grass will the yard even itself out?

Okay bedtime. Not sure I want to do two days of overtime and then another week without a day off. That's 11 days in a row. Who wants to do that? I was going to do my trick of taking Monday off, but there's already the allotted people off. Sheesh.

Pleasant dreams.

Mike - Truckload of dirt. Then drag a piece of cyclone fencing behind a riding mower, tractor or whatever works well. Do that several times. Once before a good rain, then several more times - it should begin to level pretty well cyclone fencing works well. I mean you could go all out and rent the large lawn rollers (200 to 300 water gallon variety). But spreading via a piece of cyclone fence several times works well.

Well Good Mooooooooooorning Captain.

It is way too early to be functioning at this level, but function we must. It's slim pickin's this morning as far as overtime participants. I anticipate being here most of the morning. That ain't right.

This afternoon Mom wants to go dishwasher shopping. Fun. I'm not in a hurry to spend 800 bucks on a dishwasher. At my house I'm the dishwasher. They used to be 200. Of course I remember when convertible tops were 200. What the hell happened.

Things are cranking up. The people that are here are excellent so things should go smoothly. Hope so. Got my first wheel. Forty-Nine to go.

Greg - I saw the news regarding the tornado in ******* yesterday afternoon.

Greg/Jim - I thought about a much larger stationary generator (Ingersoll Rand, Caterpillar, Generac, etc.) for several years. Surprisingly, even though I reside in a hurricane infested area, our power company (Duke Energy) stays on top of the game. Our power outages are very few and far between. I'll continue to use my portable Troybilt 5550 I've owned the past 20 years....it's like the Engergizer Bunny keeps on running.

I don’t know about other grasses but with Bermuda and zoysia I have had good luck using a red sand right on top of the grass and spreading it with a chain drag made from a fence

At first I used a gate section that was rigid but later a swapped to a 40’ piece folded in half to make a heavier 20’ piece. It confirms to the yard better
EDIT:: I didn’t see that you had a tractor. A box blade is the ideal tool if you can borrow one

Im pulling old chain link fence poles as we speak and I can already feel it

These have been in the ground for probably 20 years and they poured dry concrete in the holes

I’ve always been dis trusting of this

So this concrete never set up. It was mostly dry powder in the hole, but….. it was still really tough to pull out of the ground So. While I would not do it maybe I shouldn’t discount it so much

Well a couple more days like this and overtime will get a bad name. We sign in and out for 4am to 1230pm. Only midnight shift gets a paid lunch so we work an extra half hour. Ordinarily we are there until 9 tops. Today our target was 100 and we had a fraction of the people. We got to 65 and the lead shut us down, it was around 1130. One robot was broke so we only had half the wheels normally available to build. We would have been there all afternoon. I'm guessing tomorrow will be about the same. There will be less people as well.

Beautiful out and hot but not stifling. I'd like to mow this afternoon but Mom really wants a dishwasher. I really, really need to go look at cars. It isn't going to get any cooler. She needs some laundry to be done, which will keep us at home. I'm not leaving with either of those machines running.

The chain link sounds like the right idea. Also, it might tear up the yard a little, which would be good because all it is is weeds. There isn't any grass. Win all around.

Okay gonna head over. Maybe I should sell this place and move into an apartment. That's about all I have time for these days.

Mike, I make sure that my flags are made in the U.S. I have a solar light attached to the pole, so it flys 24/7. I have started to look for a new light as this one is getting weak. Rainy and gloomy today, domestic chores for me.

Actually got some mowing done. Started the laundry while I was out and when it was done we went to Awful house. I'm going to stop into Best Buy on the way home from work tomorrow and see about ordering the dishwasher. I know which one I want. Just have to give up some money.

Matt are you saying your posts were put in with dry cement and that's it? No water added? Did the installer think the moisture from the ground would set it all up? Well if you had trouble getting them out it did something.

Some years ago my neighbor wanted to put in a home generator. I said, can you have some outlets installed on the side of it? He said what for. I said so I can run some extension cords. I got his usual response. It isn't polite...

Okay gonna hit the sack and then do it all again. I tell you what, there isn't any money in the world worth feeling dog tired and dragging your *** around all day. But I'm afraid that if I don't show up it will hamper the operation. Not trying to be a hero, just don't want to put my coworkers in a bind. I kinda don't think it would make a difference. But I said I'd go in and I'm nothing if not a man of my word.

Have a good night.

Good evening guys,

Met my buddy at that cruise-in last night and it was nice. We had a couple of cold ones and checked out the other cars. I didn't take any pics because you guys have already seen probably 90% of the cars that were there. We spent most of our time just catching up on what we had been doing.

One word sums up today, WET! We had one round of strong storms overnight that woke everyone up and sent Monty into a fit. Then it was fairly quiet in the morning, so the subdivision yard sale was a go, but folks had to pack that in around 1030 when another very strong storm came through and it's been raining on and off since then.

I'm running my wife to her oldest daughter's house about an hour away at 0800 tomorrow morning, so she can watch the granddaughters, and her daughter can go someplace to buy a 4-wheel ATV. Now, mind you, this daughter doesn't have a pot to **** in, no garage to keep an ATV in, no trailer to haul one with, and no property other than a 1/2 acre lot to ride it on. Man, I just don't get it???

Hope everyone had a great day and has a great rest of your weekend!

I took an awesome 4 hour nap this afternoon - very nice, indeed.

It was a pleasant evening to ride so I grabbed this ice cream coupon I received from a charitable military golf tournament I played in yesterday & had a nice hot fudge sundae. It took me longer to clean my leather jacket (I forgot I left it in the man-cave all winter - was covered with a nice fashionable green mold). The motorcycle needs a thorough wash/wax & metal shine. I'm so twisted & torn about selling. It's probably the best riding motorcycle Indian Motorcycle has produced since 1935.

It's about time to start running the AC daily as the humidity has slowly been creeping up. There remain nice gentle breezes throughout the night time hours & I enjoy the house filled w/ fresh air w/ circulating fans.

Chris - Sounds like the oldest daughter needs a reality check. For the right amount of money I could take her on a motorcycle ride to Utah/Arizona to visit Zion Nat'l Park/Bryce Canyon (and forget to bring her back).

Mike - There are several benefits for using dry cement. (1) It allows moisture to flow through and around the dry compound, thereby discouraging water to adhere to wet cement when it does rain (i.e. it discourages moisture and the wood fence posts last much longer); (2) It's better suited for dry clay like soils with limited moisture. Clay absorbs moisture very slowly. A fence post dropped into a wet bed of cement is OK, but over time the cement will absorb much more moisture than the surrounding clay soil - increasing the rate of decomposition of the wood post; and, (3) It's far easier to set fence posts when you only need to load 50-100 bags of cement onto a pick-up truck when you're digging & setting posts in the middle of nowhere. Ask me how I know this.

Norm - I really appreciate the thought, but I would never subject you to that one! Regardless of whatever amount of money we agreed upon to do the deed, you'd be begging for more before you got out of NC!

Good morning guys,

Very cool this morning at 53°, kinda chilly in the house, I almost turned the gas fireplace on. No rain in the forecast for a change, that's good because I really need to mow. With all this rain we've been getting lately it needs mowed every 4th day.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Finished prepping/painting a tail light lens for the '71 CS yesterday, installed it this morning. Kenneth, the Krylon 1403 Dull Aluminum was correct. I sprayed two coats of Minwax Polycrylic Clear Matte to finish/seal. As mentioned yesterday, the humidity has been creeping up ~90% yesterday & 80% today - still haven't turned on the AC (saves large money) & there remains nice night time breezes. Going to wash the Indian, put it on the motorcycle lift, wax/shine & change oil. Mold/Mildew on exterior/interior of leather bags will get cleaned. Watched 'Red Notice' for the second time last night - fun movie to watch. I have several other movies on my list - one of which (I've seen 10 times at least) is 'Apocalypse Now' but the version I'm going to watch is one called 'Apocalypse Now (Redux)'. It's supposed to contain over one hour of never-before-released movie cuts which didn't appear in the original version - should be interesting.

I really love that version.

There is a documentary called “heart of darkness”. It is a behind the scenes of the filming of apocalypse now. I think it was filmed by Francis ford Coppola’s wife or daughter.

It is amazing. It is great even if you are not a huge fan of the movie. In many ways it’s darker and more disturbing than the film

I recently read the Joseph Conrad book. Heart of darkness which inspired aspects of the film and gave its name to the documentary. I finished it but probably would not ever go back to it. It is superbly written and flows like a fever induced hallucination but I just didn’t get hooked into the story

I’m building rose trellis for the wife this morning. And this afternoon I’m drilling 10” holes for my new fence poles. The auger should eat right through what’s left of the uncured concrete powder that is in my holes

Did way better this morning than yesterday. Out around 10. We had all four positions of the robot working, two wall guys and three people signing. Signed off 100 wheels. The lead's wife brought shrimp and grits. I didn't have any grits, but I had some shrimp. They had some sort of cajun powder on them, not terrific but not bad. The grits were orange. Maybe had cheese in them? I wasn't about to find out.

Such a nice day out. Not too hot, so far. Today is shopping day. Probably won't get much more done than that. I'm beat. This getting up at 2am is the pits. And, since we were busy all morning I didn't get in a nap.

Okay off to it. And to think there's only 5 more days to go before I get a day off.

Matt - Thanks much for the recommendation RE: 'Heart Of Darkness'. That &/or the novel is now on my list. Thank You. The trellis' work looks great. Mom's family (siblings, in-laws, etc.) were Holstein/swine ag. farmers (Wisconsin). Each ~10-15 of them owned I'd say roughly ~2-3 1/4 sections of land (320-480 acres). Fields were clover/wheat/dent-corn/soybeans and obviously pasture (w/ rotations of sorghum). Summers I helped on various farms - sometimes setting/removing fence posts and pulling/stringing/nailing barbed wire. This was some time ago (JD Models A/B). Depending on the number of us (cousins mostly) in the field(s) we bring two pickups full of bags of cement, a tractor/trailer loaded w/ fencing/tools & coolers of ice/water & cases of beer - the good stuff (Falstaff, Holiday, Blatz, Old Style). And, Potosi - before Potosi became a "thing". Lots of very hard work.

Mike - You should have tried the shrimp & grits. One of my favorite Southern dishes. Yes, it most likely had cheese mixed in w/ the grits and a delicious Southern spice. That stuff is delicious. I have my own recipe for shrimp & grits which I make.

The Indian is washed & on the lift. Began cleaning chrome - too much work for a beautiful Sunday. Retirement = enjoyment. I enjoy riding, cleaning/polishing is not enjoyable and therefore I plan accordingly - take....my....time. There's something to the saying ...why work today if I can put if off until tomorrow (or, something like that).

Well, I’m two hours into AN (Redux) 1.5 hrs remaining. Pretty sure I’m a doofus, because this is the exact same version I own /purchased about 20 years ago. I just watched it (my DVD) 2 months ago. Now I can’t find it (among the hundreds of movie DVDs I own. I’m sure it’s the same (Redux). Oh well, a nice way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. The horror…the horror…

I saw this movie when it was released circa 2000 in the theater. The main scene I remember, and this will help you look for it, but not spoil anything, is there's a cut scene on the river. They had a shot where they went into the mist, and then a whole bunch of scenes, then back into the river mist much later. The original release cut from mist to mist and cut the entire scene out. So, think river shots going into mists, and that should help you immediately go, ok this part is new, and then, now we are back to the old. I also remember more stuff about the Colonel and Charlie Don't Surf.

Norm, trying to get Mike to eat grits is like kicking a dead horse. I've tried for years. I've decide to let my good friend suffer w/o them

Jes, Got back from de hills feeding cousins and second cousin. Las nite made a pretty good Paella. A good time was had by all and the meeting was adjourned

Expecting thunderboomers maybe won't have to water trees this week

Well I'll have to take your word for it how much I'm suffering. Today at the Awful house someone ordered grits to go, and the chef had to go into three different grit pans to get some that he liked. None of them looked very appealing. I told John I'd eat grits if I could ever go for a ride in the Starfire. That's a pretty good hedge.

Did the shopping and little else today. Gosh look at how late I'm up, since I get to "sleep in" until 4am tomorrow. Tiger and I are going to have a short, but succinct talk on how we aren't getting up in the middle of the night.

Hope the week starts out good for everyone.

I enjoyed the original Bladerunner (1982?), but this ‘Bladerunner 2049’ is taking some time for me to validate moving on. Guess I’ll stick with it hoping it gets better - I’m already one hour into the three hour movie and it’s certainly bizarre.

Good afternoon guys,

Here's some pics of a furniture piece my wife recently finished. Until she told me, I did not not know what it was, or it's intended use. Curious whether any of you guys know what it is? For scale, it is 26" tall with the lids closed, and 28" wide. My bet's on Jame's to know what it is.

Guys,
Just got in from mowing. I'm gonna wait until a little later tonight to see if anyone else wants to guess on the furniture piece. I will say no one has got it correct yet. Here's a hint, it was a common piece of furniture a long time ago.

"Redux" is the version that I have. I like the Bladerunner movies, and I have both on DVD. I have no idea what that is Chris, used in the bathroom perhaps? Anyone one a fan of Pink Floyd? I have the 2014 version of "The Wall" by Roger Waters (and the orignal 80's version as well), gives a little insight to his anti war theme in his music and concerts.
