Good morning everyone.

Mike will likely eat the steamed carrots. With a little honey drizzled on, thank you. I am not a Cubs fan. I was a bit of a Sox fan until they knocked down the ball park. I have a very nice Cardinals hat I wear sometimes, and besides that the cardinal is the Illinois state bird.

Beautiful out, if not a tad humid. After I get back from the Awful house I'm going to clean out the aforementioned weeds from around the AC compressors. And I'll keep going as long as I can, at least until dinner time.

Going to a meeting in a few minutes over at my airport. We have two meetings a year that touch on what's been going on, how we can improve things, money report, etc. One might wonder why I pay into the association without owning an airplane. Well, it seems feasible to me that at any moment the place could become a subdivision and if I'm part owner, then I get part of the dough from the sale. And it should be a fat sum more than I've put in. Besides that, when Delta decides they will for sure never fly the DC9's again they will sell them cheep and I'll buy one. I could get it in, probably not out. Who cares, I'd have a DC9.

Chris the "Dawn Award" looks cool. I think she might have a new side hustle. Make those for the local car clubs for a couple bucks apiece, she'd clean up. I didn't know she had a cnc machine.

Okay gonna get ready for the meeting. Hope everyone has a great day.

Mike - There is a story behind why I actually like the Cubs, except when they could potentially be in the way of the Cardinals winning it all. There was some point in my early teens I believe, when we started being about to get Channel 9 out of Chicago on our external roof antenna and they broadcast almost every Cubs game. My Dad being a huge baseball fan would watch every game if there was nothing else going on and I'd watch with him. He loved getting to see the National League teams because before we only got the Tigers American League games.

Dawn does not have a cnc machine, she did not make the Red Car, those are what were given out as awards. She just chose a piece of her personal misc. stock of wood and cut it to fit the car, then sanded it and painted it. I've still got to find some screws that will fit the tiny holes on each end of the car and mount it to the wooden plaque. I'm sure I have some screws that size, I just have to find them.

Next weekend they literally close down the town of Dekalb (where I’m staying). Free corn boil, Ag displays, band, carnival, etc. Dekalb is where NIU is located.

Too bad you won't be there for that! I always enjoyed our County Fair when I was a kid, they always had a carnival, Ag displays and livestock judging, motorcycle flat track racing, truck/tractor pulls, and demolition derby, as well as lots of live entertainment. Lots to see and do!

Hurricane Erin, Category 5, 160 mph “sustained” winds is insane. Supposed to develop x2>x3 larger as it tracks hopefully Northward. Outer bands are touching Beaufort, NC. I trust the models; yet, I never throw caution to the wind.

Yes, I've been tracking it, it looks like a monster. Hopefully the modeling is correct and the worst of it stays well off the coast moving northward. 🤞

Good morning everyone.

Today is Mom's birthday. All week I've been meaning to get her a card and had yet to get the chance. So this morning I got up early and went to Walmart(lucky me, I get to go twice today) to get a card. They are all so dumb. Went to check out and there were no cashiers, only the self check. Well, being in a bind I didn't have a choice. Of course the thing didn't work like I thought it should, and the guy came over and said, are you okay? I said, I want to pay but there's no place to put the money. He said it's card only. I gave him one of my go-to sayings for situations like this and he just walked off. I'm going to submit a bill to Walmart for 96.88 . Since I'm now an employee, that's what I get at my work for time and a half, four hours minimum. And 50% off the card for an employee discount. Sheesh, what I won't do for my mother.

Chris I totally misinterpreted what you were saying. I'm sure if Dawn did have a cnc machine her work would look at least as good as that. Maybe if the furniture starts drying up...

I got quite a bit of brush cleared out around the ACs yesterday. I need to make an effort to keep going. the front of my house looks terrible. It's overwhelming. Eh, it's like eating an elephant. One bite at a time.

Okay have a great day everyone. I'm gonna finish up painting the bathroom.

Mike - Happy B-day to your Mom, I'm sure it will be nice for her simply because she knows you really care about her!

Man, that really sucks about Walmart service, I can't believe they didn't have a single cashier.

Keep chugging on the brush around your home and try not to get overwhelmed. As Norm would say . . . Baby Steps. Good luck!

I hope you and your Mom have a great day!

G'day Myke

Happy Birthday wishes for your mother. Cards are kind of generic so it is tough to find one that fits, maybe your trip out today with your mother will present an opportunity to get her something she has been wanting for awhile. Have a great day with her.

Good morning guys,

No big plans for today, it's too damn hot to do anything outdoors. This will be the 4th straight day with an actual temp near 100° and a heat index near 110. This scenario is supposed to continue now thru Tuesday. After working so hard during the week to get my car Show worthy again it is pretty disappointing not to be taking it out this morning, but what's the sense in doing that if you're going to be miserable from the heat?

No earth shattering plans for this coming week. I will have the eye doctor appointment on Wednesday to get the floater in my right eye checked out. On Friday, Dawn and my youngest daughter Blaire will be headed up near Chicago for one of those big "Tough Mudder" obstacle course events. The event itself is on Saturday.

Their travels will put a minor kink in my plan to get out to a Show I really, really want to get to on Saturday this coming week. Earlier this Summer at another Car Show where I won a Top Twenty, I was approached by 2 brothers who were members of the Car Club who was putting on the Show. They told me that their Car Club has been putting on a Memorial Car Show in honor of their Dad for several years because he was one of the founding Members of their Car Club. Apparently the Dad was a huge Oldsmobile guy and owned several, and the 2 sons practically begged me if I would bring my car to their Show this coming Saturday. The minor kink is, with Dawn gone, I don't want the dogs to have to be unattended for 8 or 9-hours without being let out to do their business. To get around this I've recruited my buddy across the street to come over and let them out at least once. Hopefully this will go smoothly.

Well, I'm sure I've bored everyone to tears with my goings on. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Mike, Happy birthday to your Mom.
Today is my birthday also so we went to the beach on the Oregon coast for the week. Going out to dinner tonight.
Here is current view. A little overcast but not windy and 67° so it really nice.

Thanks guys. And Happy Birthday to you Cutlassguy. Seems to be a good day for a birthday.

I spent all day with Mom, at Walmart and then working on the bathroom. I'm still not done but I'm over it, so I'll work on it tomorrow, and hope that will do it. Everything is painted, but I need to touch up here and there, and then clean real good.

Chris the Walmart I went to this morning only has the self check until sometime mid morning. I only went there because it's closer. I don't know what the one I usually shop at does. One time I was looking at cards and this woman was standing there and asked me if I needed help. I said, nah, all these cards are so dumb. I thought the woman worked for Walmart, nope, she was the Hallmark card woman. She gave me a weird look. I said well, the messages never fit what I'm looking for.

Physical Therapy at 8 tomorrow morning. Then the bathroom. Then ending early so I can get up early for work. The first couple weeks of 10 hour shifts made the weekend seem like it would never end. Now it seems just as short as they always have.

Okay have a good night everyone.

Dan, I can't remember how far you are from Coldwater?? We are leaving for Coldwater tomorrow morn to join up with the Old US 27 Motor Tour. There will be a car show there on Tues the 19th in the afternoon, and another at noon Wed. the 20th, downtown. Then tour leaves for Dewitt ( Lansing), if you like you could come over and maybe take some of it in. We've been doing it for 18 years now- Coldwater to Cheboygan- great time!!

As Chris said earlier, its going to be another HOT day around central MO. Expected to top out at 98* which makes hard to get much done outside.

That photo of the beach sure looks inviting.

Have a good day.

Good morning guys,

Don beat me to it, another blistering hot day expected here today! Don, I've lived here since 1983, and overall I don't remember a Summer as hot as this one? How about you?

Seeing and hearing quite a few Cicadas around here the past few weeks. I don't remember reading about it being a big hatch year for them. Creepy and prehistoric looking buggers!

Hope everyone has a great day! 😃

In my mind, it was the summer of 2000, but this was probably job related. Memories are often clouded in judgment.

I tried to look up the hottest heat waves for MO, and it looks like 1954 and 1980 were the worst with 2000 not even mentioned. The fact remains, its hot. But going by statistics historically, we are/should be trending down soon. The forecast seems to indicate this happening in a few days.

Don - Thanks for doing some investigation. I'm sure glad this current stretch is suppossed to break after Tuesday. It will be interesting to see where this Summer ranks all time when it it is all said and done. Have a great day!

Good morning everyone.

Nice here, but getting hot. Things should start cooling off a little in a couple weeks. If the grass would grow less I'd be happy.

Went to my PT this morning. Neither of the other people were there that I saw in the past, and the guy there today couldn't have been less interested in helping me. To be fair, he wasn't interested in helping anyone. The girl that makes the appointments, a therapist in her own right, told him everything to tell me, and she ended up just being my therapist for the last half of my session. I hope the other two are back on Thursday.

Got my renewal for insurance for the diesel Suburban. Just a few dollars shy of 500 for half the year. That's insane. It's 35 years old so I called Hagerty. They said sure we'd love to insure it how do you use it. I was very careful not to say I towed with it, but I did say I hauled things with it. Buzz! Not allowed. Well State Farm can kiss my *** I'm not paying them 500. I know they are pushing my premiums up just because they think I'll pay it. I've been with them for decades. Too bad for them. I may not find it much cheeper anywhere else but I won't be paying them.

Going to Mom's in a few minutes for lunch then I'll work in the bathroom. I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel but it might be an approaching freight train. Ah what's funny, we were leaving dinner last night and we saw the guy that does work for me. I said, I need to call you to see about putting down some laminate flooring. He said okay call anytime. I was worried he wouldn't want to do it for whatever reason. Nope, great guy, does good work, wants to do laminate flooring. Can't beat that.

Hope the week starts out good for everyone. Gonna try to take in the cruise in tonight. I haven't been in over a month.

Mike - Wait a couple of days and call Hagerty back. Don't mention the occasional towing, just say you use it on occasion. Have an "Ageed to Value" in mind for how much you want it insured for. I bet you will be able to pull it off and you will be hundreds of $'s ahead, and you have insurance for a whole year versus 6-months.

Glad the guy is willing to put down the new flooring at your Mom's place for ya, that's great! 👍

Chris, too damn hot for me. Greg, I'm about two hours from Coldwater. Still working, so I can't quite jump up and go. I missed the Saturday car show that I had planned on attending. Woke up at 5:30 Sat. morning feeling dizzy and nauseated, couldn't lay back down horizontally without it continuing. Hit the recliner, and crashed for six more hours. Fluid behind the eardrum was the reason. Go back to work tomorrow, though I am still a bit lightheaded. Local car shows Wednesday and Friday. Weather cooling down a bit, which is good for sitting out on asphalt at a car show.

Dan - Sorry to hear about the ear issue and symtoms, I hope it totally clears soon!

Too damn hot for you and me both! Tomorrow is supposed to be the last really hot day, and then drop into the upper 80's on Wednesday and stay in that range for awhile, including Saturday when I'm hoping to get out to another show.

Good morning everyone.

Not a bad start to the morning. The lead isn't here, big surprise, so things are going smoothly. My wall guy kind of creeps me out but he does good work.

Chris I'm always afraid of what the phone person is putting into my file, if I call back and say I have this Suburban, and the person says sorry, you already said you haul with it. Don't even get me started on insurance. Government supported thievery.

I brought back a set of wheels from Florida and they've been riding around in my car since. After work I'm gonna take them out and vacuum out the trunk. Might try to mow a little bit.

Went to the Summit cruise in last night. I don't think there were 50 cars. I can't understand it. School's back in so people wouldn't be on vacation, it was nice out, not too hot. I did see some people I know and talked for a little while.

Okay time for a snack. Have a great day everyone.

Got home last night ~8:30pm. Drove ~16 hrs w/ a short two hr. nap in the driver seat 1/2 way. Far, far, far too many miles to drive in a 24 hr. period. I was a total wreck (zombie) when I got in the house - could hardly walk, thought I was going to pass out. My entire body was "buzzing" from the drone of highway buzz - bad, bad, bad. I crammed in a lot of activities in two weeks time. Had a wonderful time. I rented what they call a full size car. The car was a Nissan Altima. Well, a Nissan Altima isn't a full size car, IMO - it's a mid-size. I guess next time I want a full size car I'll have to rent a premium car. Oh well. The truck is at the rental location (Enterprise) so I'll clean up the Altima & pick up the truck later today. Thankfully, major hurricane Erin is expected to remain ~100 miles offshore. Always good to get back home.

Welcome home Norm. That was an epic trip. Glad you had a good time. The rental places have been putting the screws to people for years. Pay them 2/3 of what you owe and tell them that's your full size payment.

I agree driving that much is not a terrific thing for the body. Maybe a chocolate malted will help fix you back up.
