Norm I must have missed you taking a trip up north. How long do you take to get up there? Is that 294 you're taking as your bypass? Say hi to the airport for me. On the way home will you stop and get me some pizza and an Italian beef sandwich?
I wish your map had a little more left margin. Peoria isn't that far east and it looks like it says Davenport next to Naperville.
Mike - I'll be far removed from 294 on my Northbound journey. I'm heading West on 74 from Indianapolis connecting w/ 39 Northbound @ Bloomington most likely since 39 is in great shape & you can move on 39. There's the off-chance I might take 55, but 55 is iffy at best - tons of traffic & often the road is beat to death. Yes, that is Davenport.
I'm in shock. It's 73°F humidity dropping to a paltry 62% by morning. Wind from the North. All windows in the house are open.
Chris - How did Gabe do? Go to the DeSoto show (closer). They should post pictures of the trophy's they hand out. Then, registrants/entrants could decide which event to attend.
Mike, I'm just big. I think I've got some abdominal muscle issue, before lifting this transmission.
Norm, good plan to miss Chicago.
Day 2 of the nice weather. I moved the trans and a leaf vacuum, which wouldn't start. I then gave up and mowed with the tractor. Got it 90% done and got tired and dropped off the deck and went away. There was a kitten who kept wanting to lay on the driveway's heat. I could only get within 15 feet of it, would not come over. Drove home and ran into my neighbor's cat, who is very friendly, but, being shaggy, is a 3 season cat only, and summer ain't one of them. Being lower 70s, he was out and about after dark.
Dan - Nice shot of Bald Eagle. John - Day 2 nice weather arrived here today. Nearly all furniture is in the kitchen & one bedroom while I wet & dry mop all the floors. Tee time tomorrow 9am.
Rain, and lots of it. Yick. Inside stuff today for sure.
Slept good, and long. I always feel guilty sleeping well when Tiger isn't home. I hope Mom slept good. We went to Awful house for dinner and she could hardly keep her eyes open when we got home. So I left early and she went to bed.
Dan that's an award winning picture. Were you really that close? He looks like he's posing for you.
Okay Walmart. Who knows what else. Hope everyone has a good day.
Mike, no not that close, telephoto lens set at 600mm, and then I enlarged/cropped the pic. Norm, a question in egards to M.E.K. posted on another thread. is there a difference between M.E.K. and M.E.K. Peroxide? I used to work with M.E.K. peroxide when I worked at Chris Craft, used in the resin mixing process before OSHA started to kick in. Many years later while doing safety for a small company, I went to monthly meetings which involved local manufacturers. A couple of those guys called it "M.E.K. death".
Well Bless my soul look at me. I'm moderator of a forum. The owner of the Imperial forum, which by the way appears at the bottom of my signature, asked me if I wanted to be moderator. I think I'm the only one who looks at it regularly. He travels a lot, said it would be a big help. I think the biggest thing will be deleting the new members whose screen name is a bunch of foreign characters.
When I first got into maintenance, which is closing in on 30 years, MEK had just been taken off our chemical list, meaning we couldn't use it anymore. People said they used to bathe in it when they got all greasy at work. I've also heard it called MEK death. I assumed it was outlawed but not if you can still buy it in the stores. We also had TSolv taken away, came in a white and yellow aerosol can. What we're stuck with these days wouldn't clean snot off a door ****.
Cool out today. The rain stopped but it's still cloudy. It isn't up to 70. We waited to go to Walmart until it stopped raining, and it never started up again, so good for us we didn't get wet. Got the laundry going but I'm staying in.

Dan - Nice question. Yes there is a difference. I'll keep this as simple as possible. MEK itself contains no peroxide. I believe you already know &/or suspect MEK usage i.e. solvent used to remove grease, used to make dyes, inks & plastics. It is readily miscible in many other solvents i.e. paints, lacquers, thinners, etc. A peroxide (in chemistry terms) looks like this: R−O−O−R. Each "R" is simply an attachment point to another molecule - any other molecule. Each "O" is an oxygen atom. The peroxide (R-O-O-R) group is a highly negatively charged state & has a net charge of [-2]. Peroxides are often used as cross-linkers & catalysts. When peroxide is added to MEK to form MEK Peroxide - usage of MEK Peroxide provides the ability to cross-link other substances to form (in most Rxns) a solid. In the manufacture of fiberglass (and other types of plastics) a resin might normally exist in a liquid state indefinitely (depending on composition of the resin). MEK Peroxide (unlike MEK alone) then cross-links atoms/molecules contained in the resin to form a hardened product. That [-2] net charge (of a peroxide) means it will readily attach (as a catalyst) to other atoms/molecules & form cross-links (hardening of the solvent).
I suspect in the absolute basics of it all (if you will) think of the MEK Peroxide as the hardener when you mix a resin (J.B. Weld, Epoxies, etc.) w/ the hardener. Since it will definitely cross-link liquid solvents (substances) to form hardened material(s), the rate of these Rxns is generally highly dependent on the amount of MEK Peroxide added to the other solvent e.g. resin. Some materials prefer a slow cure (rate) while others prefer a faster cure (rate). Just depends on the end-product usage.
Dan - I love all the pictures you took. Thanks for sharing them. Many years ago (prior to the Earth cooling) I rented a Metropolitan in Italy. Fun little car to drive & inexpensive to rent. A friend rented one of those 3-wheel cars (I think it was in Germany) & I can't recall the name of the car. It definitely wasn't new. There was a small car rental joint with old(er) used cars for rent. Frick'n thing opened in the front w/ the steering wheel and you were lucky to get one person in it (the driver). One of the coolest/craziest things I ever rented (1969) was (I call it) a V-Room bicycle. It was basically a regular bicycle with fat tires but it had a two or three liter gasoline engine mounted between the handlebars and two retractable/pivotal arms which clamped down on the front tire to propel the bicycle. It was actually a blast to ride. Expensive though - think it cost me like roughly $10/day (I rented it for two days). Well, I rented one for one day, then another a different day.
It's downright chilly out. 64* coming home from Mom's. I know it will heat up again, just seems odd after all that heat. Didn't rain any more this afternoon or evening.
So did Chris go to a car show or Gabe's hockey game? I forgot. Either one he would have enjoyed immensely.
Dan, I am thinking we may go to Mid Michigan Motorplex on October 5th, Sunday, Test and Tune 11-5. Still not sure if it will work, waiting to hear from 2 buddies, Would you be able to come that day?
Chris - How did Gabe do? Go to the DeSoto show (closer). They should post pictures of the trophy's they hand out. Then, registrants/entrants could decide which event to attend.
Norm - Sorry, for the delayed response, long day yesterday. Unfortunately it pains me to say, Gabe was not at his best at his 1st Eval. He seemed sluggish and uninspired like he was just going thru the motions. His 2nd one was yesterday, but I was at the Car Show. More on the Show in a minute.
Dan - I absolutely love the Eagle shot, very nice!
Thanks for sharing the Gilmore pics, also very nice. I'm with Norm, I like the green SuperBee with the Mod Top. There was a yellow '69 Barracuda with one parked right next to me yesterday. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Trying to get caught up on how everyones' weekend went. Yesterday was a very long day at the Car Show at the AmVets Post in DeSoto, MO. The weather was perfect, sunny and in the low 80's, and I had shade all day under a covered pavilion (1st pic). It was probably the worst planned and executed Car Show I've ever been to, and that's coming from someone who won something. There were a ****-ton of pissed off attendees by the time it was over. Let me explain.
Supposedly there were 135 cars/trucks. Entry fee was $20 per vehicle. However, owners were allowed to enter their vehicle in more than one Class if their vehicle met the Class criteria. To enter a 2nd or 3rd Class was only $10 for each additional Class you entered. I'd say approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the vehicles entered more than one Class. So conservatively about 170-vehicles that needed to be judged. So here's the really bat-**** crazy part of the Show. Whenever a particular Class was being judged, owners had to go to their vehicles, pull out of their spots, and drive their car up to the "Judging Area" (2nd pic), and then return to their spot after their car was judged. This process took forever, FOREVER!
Then there was the issue of awards. In the past this Show had always given out 3 awards per Class. This year they only gave out 1 trophy per Class for 1st. This was not advertised ahead of time in their flyer and this one really pissed alot of owners off!
Finally, they ran out of food around 2pm, over 3-hours before we got out of there a little before 6pm. Again, alot of pissed off owners that they would run out of food so early!
I entered my car in a Buick/Pontiac/Olds (BPO) Class and the '64 - '72 Muscle Car Class. Much to my surprise I ended up winning the BPO Class over a couple of nice GTO's, a very nice Catalina and a couple of Buick GS's. I didn't get home until a little after 6:30, and then had to clean bugs off the front of the car and put it away. It was after 7:15 before I was inside to sit down and relax, like I said, a Long Day!
I had a great place to set up camp for the day. That's my chair in the background under the pavilion. Pic of the 4x4 Truck Class pulled into the "Judging Area" which was only about 20-yds from my seat. This judging method was an absolute Cluster! 1st Place BPO.
Cold and rain. It must be winter. Eh, it will warm up again, and everyone will start melting.
Just got back from my first physical therapy session. Only 8 months after my wreck. Cute little girl, very knowledgeable, sympathetic. She said I should be better in about a month. Well, we'll see but I'll do my level best to see that it happens.
Chris congratulations on the First Place award. Sounds like a crazy show. Some people just don't know how to throw a party. Running out of food detracts zero from the fact that they liked your car better.
Dan the Mod Top was a Super Bee? It looked like a Charger to me. Interesting to me, a company that made shower curtains made the Mod Tops. Probably used their own patterns...
Driving home from Mom's last night I got a right front tire low message. It didn't look low, and this morning it didn't look low. Actually they were all a couple pounds low, so when it stops raining I'll fill them all up.
Guess I'll find a couple chores to do. Mom goes to the foot doctor this afternoon and I need to pick up Tiger. Then end early for work tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good day.
You have your car in a excellent condition Chris. I am a little lazy about this Here is a unusual accident who
happend in Norway . August 3 1968 a woman named Marit 18 years old and her boyfriend was heading to a
party in their Oldsmobile but gone off the road in a corner and down in a lake. Her boyfriend could swim to land
but Marit followed the car to the bottom of the sea.
57 years later they found the car in a depth of 103 m ( 338 feet ) using a underwater robot , Marit,s remains was
also in the car so she could be buried with her parents.

Mike - Good luck with the PT! It doesn't hurt to
have a cute female therapist. My time in PT for my shoulder was time well spent. There are in home stretching/strengthening exercises they taught me that I'm still doing to hopefully insure the issue doesn't come back.
Thanks for the congrats, much appreciated! It was a crazy show for sure, and certainly way too long. If it had been a typical August low-90's day, it would have been miserable. Even though I won something, I don't think I'll go back unless they make some changes?

Glenn - Thanks for the compliment on my car's condition it is much appreciated. I probably wouldn't keep it as clean as I do if I wasn't entering it in so many Judged Shows, but I'm a competitive person by nature, and I'd feel like I'm cheating myself and the car if I didn't give it my best effort.
Sad story about the young girl, but glad to see they were finally able to recover her remains.
Mike - How about a nice reach-around for your PT. Go for it.
Chris - As I began reading your car show description how uncanny I suspected where it was headed. They pulled the same $hit at a motorcycle event I attended one year. A total cluster! Is that how they unload passengers from the bed of that black pick-em-up truck?

Ya, it was a Super Cluster! Yep, when they're too drunk to get out on their own, ya just have to dump em!
I was in one show last year where the top 5 drove up and then left at the end of the show. I think I got a top 75 at that show.
I try not to care about trophies because they are applied with no rhyme or reason. New cars are given trophies and I don't know why. When I started being in the car show scene, the cutoff was 1972 with the GM massive model change. That was a good cutoff. Then it jumped to 75 or 80. That's fine, too. I think it might be up to 1990 now, but most places don't care. I was at a show for H/O Day and the Mustang Mafia showed up. These dweebs rock all recent, like less than 10 years old, Mustangs, and, while they are pretty, they don't need much. One old Mustang there would not start to leave the show. You know who got him going and headed home? Hurst/Olds Club of America. 3 of us helped him. Mustang Mafia had already departed to go God knows where to bother some other place.
In my opinion, you deserve a trophy for age, cleanliness, condition, and uniqueness. If you roll up in a rusted out LaSalle, you're getting a trophy at my show because it is a 90 year old vehicle 90% of the people have never heard of, let alone seen.
Mike, the Mod Top was on the Super Bee, see the pic before it. Chris, way back in ye olden days, in my neighborhood, there was a yellow '69 Barracuda with a mod top. When I was in jr. high, there was a Plymouth Fury with a paisley top, that I used to see on my way to school. So, my buddy and I were at the car show Saturday, sitting in our chairs, when he says 215/70?, what? I respond, he says your tire size, to which i reply, no 225/70. Uh ***** the damn things are the wrong size! I said I'll check my receipt when I get home. Sure enough, they were supposed to be 225/70-14, which I requested, and paid for. Somebody fkd up at the tire store. Well, shame on me, for not checking. It's been one year, so, I am s.o.l. 1/2" shorter than the 225's.

John - I think your 1st sentence above is an over generalization, at least in regard to the Shows I've attended in my area, and that's well over a hundred now. I'd say in my area about 70% of the Judges are very knowledgeable and thorough in regard to judging, and the rest don't know ****. I try to pick Shows that are Annual events, and in their 20th iteration or more, and draw at least 200 vehicles. You can almost bet these types of Shows are going to have knowledgeable and fair Judges, because guys won't come back year after year if they aren't.
I agree with the new car business. I don't mind seeing the new cars, especially if some of them are rare, or super high end exotics that you might not otherwise see. Many of the "Top Whatever #" type of Shows in my area have went to a format of some # of Top pre-'75 Cars, then some number of Top '76 to Present Cars, same for Trucks, but with many more places alloted for the pre-'76 vehicles. I'm fine with that.

That's valid. I should say the shows I attend have them applied without rhyme or reason. I think you are in a larger city and probably have more, and better, shows. Plus, you take it more seriously than I do. I do keep my cars under roof, and maintained, and somewhat climate controlled (i.e. at least a dehumidifier) but my show prep is limited to McGuire's Quick Detailer. When I get a trophy, it is usually a joke, like my van. Most times, it's a top 75 and the van, despite being unrestored and a little rusty, gets noticed more than the A-bodies as there just aren't any snub-nosed Econolines left. No matter the work being done in them (commercial handyman or **** wagon), they just didn't last.
There have been several decent car shows I've attended in my area. NOTE "attended". I went to them because I wanted only to see the cars. I didn't care what condition they were in, I didn't care what category they were going to be judged. I cared only & solely to view the cars. I pulled up (in my 1971 CS convertible) to several of these events & when I got to the entrance you could see the worker bees dropping the ropes expecting me to drive in. Ha! Drove right by them & I found a parking space less than one block away & walked into the show. "Why aren't you registered to show your car?" Answer: "Because I don't want to."
