That front I spoke of earlier is going thru right now. High winds, lots of lightning/thunder, and buckets of rain going sideways, but at least no hail thank God! Monty is in the hall bathroom hiding. I'm just thankful there will be cooler air behind this.
On a much more enjoyable note!
Plain Bagel with plenty of Butter and Raspberry Jam for dessert!
I was told once that the temp cant drop in a house with A/C until the humidity drops, makes sense to me. Mike, Back when I worked on clothes dryers, etc, my brother bought a house. The dryer didn't work properly, I think it wouldn't heat. When I checked voltage going in to dryer, it was real high on one leg (like 150 V) and low on the other ( 80-90) They both should have been aprx 110-125. Hmm voltage problem... Went out in driveway and saw the neutral line had pulled apart at a coupling because tree had grown and pulled it apart. So after power company came and fixed that everything was OK- dryer worked...
Quick start to the morning, lots of wheels coming. That's a good thing. And it's my Friday, and that's a good thing. Tomorrow I head to Florida to retrieve Mom.
So the power company removed that tree yesterday and cleaned everything up. Looks terrific. I'll take care of the stump when I redo the concrete sidewalk. Wow what a relief. They hadn't yet replaced the pole, but left some work undone and their tools out. Odd. I thought they were coming back but they didn't. So I left them a note asking them not to put the pole any further out into the yard, so I could get my tractor in and out.
Stopped in to Mom's on the way to work again. Turned the AC on and set it at 83. It came on immediately so I hope it evens out and doesn't run all day. If I left it off it would be 90 in there by the time I got there this afternoon. Yesterday when I got there the AC wasn't running, but then I set it to 83 and it ran until I went home. I like summer but I wouldn't mind a break from this heat. Yes it's July/August in Atlanta.
I'm waiting for them to come back with, there has to be a certain distance between the pole and a fence. There's a fence that runs about 6 inches away from the current pole, that was installed decades after the pole was put up. Maybe I should have put that in my note. The pole is actually on the neighbor's property, even though it only services my house. When the neighbor lady had the fence put up she didn't want the pole on her side of the fence.
Mike - Good luck with the electric pole situation. I hope it all works out without too much hassle. 🤞 Safe travels to/from getting your Mom home and I hope by the time she gets home the A/C is cycling properly.

Electric driver seat removed from the diesel tractor. Top (back support) removed from bottom (seat), labyrinth of wire looms & connectors disconnected. Trending nicely.

A much needed change in the weather this morning behind the main front. It's only 76° right now at 11am and the high is only supposed to be 78°. It is very overcast which makes it feel even cooler. We're suppossed to have a chance of lingering showers throughout the day.
Dawn is home again today because she has been staining the outdoor deck and the chance of showers is too high to make it worth the trip over there only to get rained out. I am going to Keegan's hockey Eval tonight at 5:30, but not sure if Dawn is coming along yet.
Currently looking at my purple middle finger. Smashed it at work, broke the bone at the tip. Split the nail and bled a little bit, I swore like a sailor for a couple of minutes, and was required to go to medical, which I did. Surprised that there was no drug screen.Taped it up with a finger guard and I popped 800mg of Motrin. Only hurts if I bump it. Maybe put the guard back on. Gonna call my buddy tonight and see if he's game for The Gilmore on Saturday, should be comfortanble as both temps and the dew point will be down.
You get a well deserved break, bud. Take it easy for a couple days.
I had something flip on a bandsaw a few years back and hurt my pointer on my writing hand. So, IHS gave me paperwork to sign. I made sure to bleed on the paper a bit. Dumbasses.

Dan - That has to hurt!!! I can feel the throbbing just thinking about it.
No, I think you kicked it's ***! Nice work pardner, great job! 👍
Chris - Thanks. The channels to secure the cover w/ the hog rings were a real PITA to navigate/negotiate - very narrow & very deep. I was batting 1 in 5. One secured hog ring for every five wasted hog rings. Ugh.

Wow, that sounds like a real bitch. I never had a doubt you had the fortitude to see it to a successful conclusion. You da man!
Finger sounds painful Dan. I've got a divot in my middle finger, probably from tha table when I fell. By the way, if anyone ever talks to my mother, DO NOT tell her I fell off the roof. Oh and in case someone's insurance company asks you, don't tell them either.
No new pole today, but they were there to collect their tools. I know they saw my note because I left it under a plyers and now it is under the garden hose sprayer.
Got some unexpected rain this evening. Cooled things down quite a bit. We actually need the rain, though I never admit to that.
Gonna put a few things together for my trip tomorrow, then finish up after I take Tiger to jail. No way do I want him to think I'm packing to go out of town without him. My plan is to be on the road by 9. That would put me down there before 5 in the afternoon, just in time for dinner.

Mike - Thanks. They would have had no issues/problems installing a new pole in the exact same location. I doubt they will install a new pole in any other location without first validating/certifying there are no buried cables, conduit, septic tanks, etc. where a new pole might be installed. They likely don't have the equipment to validate what's under the surface; and, it's likely going to require another party to make that determination before they go digging any holes.
Got up early, got Tiger to jail, and now I'm ready to hit the road. This is a long, boring trip to Florida. I'm guessing Mom's trip was just nice enough that she doesn't want to do it again for awhile.
Norm you're probably right. My water line and cable and gas line run under the grass right past the pole. Someone(s) will come out and mark with flags before any digging goes on. I didn't even think about that. I'm guessing that pole was installed 52 years ago.
Sunny and 70s this morning. Should be a nice day for a drive. Okay off I go. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Chris the sky pics are nice. John, I went right back to work with a guard on it. "Tis only a wound". As soon as work started today (6:45 a.m.) I was handed a slip to go to medical. There's the drug screen. I told the nurse, a little late isn't it? And, a new one, a breathalyzer! Instant results. 0.0, all good there. Norm, nice job on the seat cushion. My buddy has family coming tomorrow, which means It'll be solo for the car show.
Thanks Dan! Glad you passed the screens with flying colors, but on second thought "flying" might not be the best descriptor in this case! Have fun at the car show, I'm going solo too.
Round 1 of the late summer grass wars opened with chemical weapons. 9 gallons of roundup laid on the house's lot; ditch, driveway, walks, landscaping. It is overgrown, this is the most I have ever used. Previous was 8 gallons.
I also put a transmission into the back of my truck along with a leaf vacuum to go to the new place.
John - How'd you do that? You have an engine lift, forklift. block & tackle (pulley)?
I take the converter off, sit it aside. I scootch the transmission up to the tailgate of the truck which I have positioned close. I lift the **** and put it on the tailgate. I think about life for a few seconds. I put the trans in the bed, then spin it around and put the converter in. I then shut the tailgate.
I grab it by the bellhousing top and the tail shaft.

You've checked for hernia(s)? They're awkward & heavy by yourself. Good job on getting it in there by yourself.
Nice job on seat, Norm, I didn't know you could buy just a seat bottom- Pricey??
Greg - Thanks. You can purchase cover(s) e.g. the fabric, for seat bottoms, backs &/or arm rests, in either leather, vinyl or cloth. I purchased leather - $100. They sell the foam pads (separately), as well.
This is their Amazon store:
This weekend will be the nicest weather we've seen all Spring or Summer. Sunny and a high in the high 70's or low 80's, with lower humidity. Essentially no chance of rain.
No big plans for today. I'm going to Gabe's hockey Eval this afternoon around 3pm. Other than that not much else going on. My car's ready to go to a Show tomorrow somewhere. I'm torn between a Show in DeSoto, MO and one in O'Fallon, IL. The one in DeSoto is 20-miles closer.

We're getting there - very slowly. Slight lowering of temps overnight, humidity about same. Turns out there's a disturbance building directly over us right now on the East coast (NOAA-NHC) w/ extreme unlikelihood anything would develop further along the coast. I've had enough of this miserable weather.

Norm - I hope the heat breaks for you soon. I expect and don't mind the low 90's we usually have here in StL in July/August, but those Heat Index temps of 110° - 115° were just way over the top.
Got home a little while ago. Nice trip home. I know Mom is glad to be home. She had a nice time but was ready to leave. It was nice to see my sister and my nieces.
Dan that's a new one on me, drug test after an injury. "You'd have to be on drugs to do that!" Hope it's feeling better.
Chris isn't there a classic car place in O'Fallon? You said you wanted another car, maybe you could shop for something overpriced.
John I used to be able to do things like lifting transmissions. You're the muscle-bound type anyway aren't you? When you don't have any help you do what you have to.
Looks like rain, but nothing now. We hit rain in a couple places on the way home but it was nice all through Florida.
I'll get caught up later. Nothing out of place at either house, Mom bought the stepping off the ladder story, the AC was not running and actually a couple degrees in the house cooler than it was set.
Mike - Good cover story - I like. Happy your trip was uneventful.
I'll likely bypass Chicago Wednesday/Thursday altogether & head Northbound via Rockford which is my usual modus operandi if I don't have to stop anywhere near Chicago. This way I'll retain some semblance of a brain when I arrive. The return trip won't be as fortunate as I'll be departing Elgin, IL heading Southbound back home.
Norm I must have missed you taking a trip up north. How long do you take to get up there? Is that 294 you're taking as your bypass? Say hi to the airport for me. On the way home will you stop and get me some pizza and an Italian beef sandwich?
I wish your map had a little more left margin. Peoria isn't that far east and it looks like it says Davenport next to Naperville.

Thinking I'll take an extended road trip through the mid-west. A 55 yr. invitation only H.S. class reunion at a friend's home in Elburn, Illinois (August 17th). Sounds like a good time. Grab a rental car, drag my clubs along, get some games in w/ cousins, friends, etc. in Illinois & Wisconsin.

I'm the type not afraid to change routes based on driving conditions - play it by ear type thing. I've been known to bypass Indianapolis entirely, as well. It's a two day affair no matter how you cook the books. One of the oldest/best Italian beef shops (Beef Villa) is in Elgin, IL - absolutely delicious. I know it's been around since the late 1950s. I've emptied my wallet there numerous times.
