John and Norm get to share the chicken dinner. I called the power company today and asked if they had been to my house over the weekend and they said yes. He was ambiguous about the reason, saying they want to reroute everyone's power and were just putting eyes on things. He also said later that someone had written an order for my house but didn't say why. Anyway, I told him about my strange power inside and also said I realized they weren't responsible for anything past the meter. He asked what was going on and I told him, and he said he would put in another order for someone to come out today. Puttered around a little and headed over, and here was a power truck sitting right over the tracks I had seen earlier. I asked if they'd been waiting long and he said no, and the problem was fixed. Squirrel chewed on wires coming off the pole and it was stranded wire and only a couple strands remained, and that was why I was getting part power on some things. Sure enough, everything worked and the AC came on. So, one phase compromised and the AC couldn't get enough power, so it couldn't come on. Wow, what a relief.

Norm I had forgotten that RT 45 was also Mannheim. It terminates in Frankfort, and down there it's called LaGrange Road. Also, 96th Avenue. I've logged many, many miles between Frankfort and Orland Park on 45.

John the car looks great. Couldn't tell the decals weren't straight at that distance.

Got the oil changed in the car. Got Tiger picked up. Had a bite and came home. Gonna hit the sack in a minute.

Hope everyone has a good evening.

I know stuff goes on everywhere, anywhere but ~10 LEOs stormed the cockpit of a Delta plane @ SFO & arrested the co-pilot who is some whack job pedophile (Rustom Bhagwagar, $5 Million bond) who supposedly was having sex with a kid under ten years old.

Early tomorrow morning (7:50am) dermatologist app't. I'm sorta rounding the corner towards the end of Breaking Bad (again). Going to turn into a couch potato shortly.

That's horrible! Too bad he didn't pose a threat severe enough that they could just do the citizens a favor.

I'm watching coverage right now of a 27yr-old gunman who entered a huge 40-story office building in downtown Manhattan this afternoon and started shooting the place up. At least 1 NYPD Officer is dead. Apparently the gunman is dead, I don't know if it is by his own hand. I don't know about other injured persons or fatalities yet. This world is a crazy place!

Great series! When we can't find anything decent to watch we'll start watching either that, or Ozark, or Yellowstone again, we love all 3 and never get tired of watching them. They're all pretty close in my book, but I'd have to say Yellowstone is my favorite.

I am not surprised. It's hot now, and there is a Republican as President. Soros and other destablizing agents will be spinning up drones to do mass shootings with drugs and brainwashing. I'd expect a major "black injustice" soon for antifa and blm to get going again.

Good morning everyone.

Ah here we are. Back at work and it feels like I never left. I gotta be careful not to start hating this place. I got a long time to keep coming here. The department I was in before I really wasn't happy with and it made for some long days.

So I got an email in to the lead to see if I can leave 3 hours early every day this week. I'm off Friday anyway. Poor Tiger, this is the first time in a long time he has to stay at home by himself. If I can get home a little early maybe he won't be in such a jam. Besides I have extra chores to do this week I could use the time. Next week things will be back to normal.

Thanks Chris, it was quite the relief.

I'll be on Florida tollways this weekend. I don't have the transponder so it will bill me by plate number. They have signs up that are so happy, thanks for using the toll road. We appreciate you. You're wonderful. Have a great day. Then they send the bill and it sounds like you're a criminal. You are commanded to pay. If you don't pay this will happen, and this will happen, and it will follow you all of your days. I mean, give me a break.

We're doing okay this morning, lots of wheels and nothing broke. Apparently I didn't miss a thing while I was gone. That's okay. I hate being gone and coming back to a new company.

Okay have a great day everyone.

Just got in from mowing the back yard only. Real temp 96°, heat index 112°. Started on the back first for a few reasons. The weeds in the back grow faster than the nicer grass in the front. Keeping the grass/weeds in the back very short makes it easier for me to see the dogs poop piles, and thus easier to find and pick-up everyday. I told myself when I went out I'd do the back first and then think about doing the front/sides. I didn't have to think long when I finished the back, I was cooked and done for the day! Now I have to get my body temp down and get rehydrated before my cardio this afternoon.

Mike - So, the VE in a Valiant Station Wagon means exactly what - the vehicle was produced in Australia? Are you hoping to find an Australia produced VE Valiant Station Wagon in North America, is that the deal? Well, during some noodling about I found a 1968 VE Safari Wagon listed in Australia. Not sure what's the difference between Safari Wagon & Station Wagon; yet, here's one recently put up for sale.

Yes, we're finally supposed to get a break after tomorrow, thank God. Weather is looking nice for car events this weekend, I'm trying to decide which one I'd like to attend, they (3) are all on Sunday. The huge (+350 cars) monthly cruise-in at the large Church in Fenton is on Friday afternoon/evening that I may also go to. I would have Saturday to touch up the car before any Show on Sunday. It has been over 3-weeks since the car has been out and I'm itchin to get it out!

Good morning everyone.

So even though Tiger is staying home this week, I still made the trip to Mom's to check on the AC. It doesn't shut off. I was there several hours yesterday and it ran the entire time. I had it set at 84, and the thermometer said 84, yet it ran and ran. I shut it off when I left. But it would be about 90 in there if it were left off until this afternoon when I go back. So I stopped on my way to work and turned it on. Set at 84, it came on immediately but then went off after a couple minutes. I didn't have time to wait around to see if it cycles, so I just left it. I hope that electrical BS didn't do something to it. Yes The Electric Company came to mind when Chris said I hope the electric company got me fixed up. Pretty clever. I haven't thought about The Electric Company in decades.

Norm VE doesn't mean anything. Probably some internal code. Australia doesn't really have model years, a VE is 1968, VF is 69, VG is 70, etc. Ford uses X, GM uses I don't know a couple of them I think. That's a nice wagon. Safari is just a trim level. I've seen a couple VE wagons over here. I don't really expect anyone to pop up and say they have one, just put it out there.

Chris I wonder if there's an air compressor small enough to put on a lawn tractor. I'm sure you could rig up some sort of vent system to blow right on you. Or tow a big water trailer like Jamesbo does, but have it full of drinking water(or beer!) and have a long straw running up to the driver. Actually one of my neighbors rides his bike around the lake and wears a backpack that has water in it with a straw that runs next to his face.

Yesterday I sent the lead an email and when I saw him I said, I sent you an email. All day I waited and all day he blew me off. Finally it was time to go and I looked around and he was the first one out the door. So I stayed until 330 like always. My main goal was to get home to Tiger so he wasn't home without going potty for 12 hours. That didn't work out, but he was fine. I'm not going to say anything about it today. Yet another reason I don't have any respect for the guy. He can do whatever he wants yet he is not interested in anybody else.

Okay gonna get set up here to start the day. Hope everyone has a good day.

Oh speaking of the AC. I got a call from the power company yesterday and the guy said the pole on the side of the house needs to be changed out and they were going to do that, but the tree on the side of the house is growing too close to the lines and pushing on the lines. He called that connection on the house the weather head. He said eventually the tree will affect the weather head, and he wants to cut it down. I said ya I planned on doing that and he said they would cut it down, wouldn't cost me anything, and they'd get rid of the debris. I said that's a deal I can't pass up. He said they are glad to do it, but don't go around cutting down people's trees without talking to them first.

So win.

Mike - That's a great deal the power company is willing to take down and dispose of the tree for you! I hope your A/C at your Mom's place starts functioning properly. I'm wondering if there might be something wrong with the thermostat? You need someone way above my pay grade to diagnose!

That Lead is an absolute jackass! For him just to absolutely ignore you when you pointed out you'd sent him an email is just plain wrong. You ought to go above his head and report the incident to his boss and see how he likes that.

Mike - Happy to hear you're trending in a positive direction on the electrical issue. Yeah, the weather head is where the power company attaches their service drop - shaped to keep water from entering your main service panel/meter. Depending on your A/C (HVAC) type, excellent chance it will not cycle initially for quite some time, no surprises there. The HVAC unit measures two critical factors: (1) Temp & (2) Humidity. Under your likely current scenario (A/C has been off for some time) the house humidity has built up significantly. The HVAC coil(s) are working hard to condense the water vapor (humidity) into liquid water to drain from the HVAC system. It's easy to expect the house temperature has reached the temperature set via the thermostat but the A/C will continue to run for quite some time until the humidity in the house is condensed to generally between 35% - 55% humidity. We've been experiencing tremendous humidity spikes & HVAC systems have a tough time regulating humidity levels. So, not cycling during your 1st start-up makes sense until humidity level has been reduced.

Norm - I learned something today because of you! I did not know HVAC units monitored and responded to humidity factors as well as temperature. Great explanation and diagram. We are fortunate our service comes in from underground.

Chris - Under normal (anticipated) expectations, an A/C (HVAC) unit is appropriately sized to fit the dwelling (home). There's not much (virtually anything) the homeowner can do to establish/regulate humidity level(s) of the A/C (HVAC) unit as they're established via the manufacturer(s) for each particular A/C (HVAC) unit & type. Large commercial/industrial units it's far easier to regulate humidity & the air handler. It's the air handler which actually "conditions" the air. Residential units you basically are conditioning all of the interior air w/ little to no indoor/outdoor air exchange. I "think" commercial/industrial air handlers provide a general range of 80:20 (interior:exterior). You can set (establish) a different humidity level for residential A/C (HVAC) units but it's not for the weak at heart as you need to open the HVAC wiring schematic & dance through a series of hoops & hurdles to change humidity profile(s). Bottom line is they're set by manufacturer for type & size of the A/C (HVAC) to match home cubic footage for conditioned air space. Easy to understand when you consider a temperature of 76°F can have a humidity level of nearly any level e.g. 35% humidity - 100% humidity. Of the two (temp. & humidity), it's really the humidity which drives the cycling of an A/C (HVAC) system & why a condenser is often one of the 1st to go South. Of course, the whole point of the coils is to reduce that humidity to condition the air, so coils (like a radiator) should be kept away from shrubs, debris, etc. If a customer has signed up for a yearly A/C (HVAC) check-up, coil cleaning is paramount.

Well I hope the humidity regulates itself soon or Mom will have an absolute stroke when she sees the power bill. I hope when they replace that pole they don't put it any further into the yard, I need to be able to get equipment in and out of the back yard.

Chris I'm not the type to go over someone's head with an issue like this. It isn't the first time he's ignored a time off request for me. It seems like I'll have to do whatever I want and worry about him later. The next time I need time off I'll be sure to mention I don't want to be ignored, again. That usually irritates him. Good.

This has reignited my idea for the potty room. It will be easy enough to build a small room outside on the porch, but I still can't figure out drainage. I can run the garden hose up there, but how to deal with the runoff? I feel as though I've had suggestions before and I've forgotten them.

Had a problem with the robot so I'm at less than 30 going into lunch. Not surprisingly I don't give a ****.

Drove the Suburban to work today. A big car with a big block is the ticket. I'll probably drive it tomorrow as well, unless the ride home is too hot. The AC doesn't work.

Norm - That's all great info! My unit has been keeping the indoor humidity between 41-45%, even in the extremely humid conditions we've been experiencing. I know these percentages because my weather station gives me the indoor conditions as well as the outdoor conditions, including the lows/highs for both temp/humidity for the last 24-hrs. I clean my coils 3 or 4 times a season. Luckily the unit is off the ground, away from most dust from mowing/etc., and in the shade in the afternoons during the hottest part of the day.

I will need a special unit to run this underground garage I am retrofitting. It needs to be humidity and temp adjustable.

John - I am assuming that underground garage will be used as a new place to keep your nicest classics in. I have lost the bubble on how many vehicles you'll be able to store in there?

You'll finger it out. Basically, they manufacture two residential consumer HVAC systems (again - generally): High humidity units (e.g. Gulf States) & low humidity units (elsewhere). Much of the design for high humidity environments involves sizing of the dehumidifier since an A/C (HVAC) unit is basically a large dehumidifier. Many folks don't suspect the advantages of appropriately sizing an A/C (HVAC) system because the initial cost can be a sticker shock but in the long haul the best A/C (HVAC) system manages humidity - NOT temperature. In Northern climes it's nearly opposite of Southern climes. Referencing residential/consumer A/C (HVAC) systems the most important factor is always managing humidity & sizing the unit correctly for the appropriate cubic feet of conditioned air. There are several methods (over the years) employed to correct for humidity levels e.g. installation of either a dehumidifier or a humidifier directly into the (generally) duct work (plenum generally) to more effectively balance humidity levels. But again, these are primarily residential/consumer grade units which (again) are manufactured w/ basically no end-user humidity adjustable capabilities. When you get into commercial/industrial it's an entirely different ballgame requiring deep pockets.

I once saw a video on ultimate vehicle garages. Some guy w/ 20, 30, 40 (?) vehicles in his underground garage with elevator. Enough room to house everyone in Gaza.

Good afternoon guys,

Pretty laid back day here. Still hotter than hell, but a storm front is supposed to move through here in 3 or 4-hours with much cooler air behind it. Only problem is some of the storms may be severe.

Dawn took today off from painting and it was nice to have her home! I sprayed some weeds early this morning and then worked out around noon, and that's about all I've done. I was able to make arrangements with my neighbor across the street to let the dogs out once on Saturday the 23rd so that I will be able to attend a car show on that date while Dawn and my youngest daughter are off to another one of those Tough Mudder events in Rockford, IL. When I was at that Hot Rods for Heroes Show in Columbia, IL a few weeks back, I found out there were a couple of brothers, and other members of the Club who were putting on the Show, that are big Oldsmobile guys. The two brother's Dad was a big Oldsmobile guy and the brothers put on a Memorial Show every year in his honor. Both brothers really, really encouraged me to come to the Show on August 23rd, so I'm doing my best to make it happen.

It's hard for me to believe, but the initial phase of my grandsons' fall/winter hockey season starts this week with evaluations. The evaluations are a combination of skills tests and scrimmages to determine what level (A, B, or C, with A highest) they will be placed in in the upcoming season. I'm sure my young goalie Keegan will be playing in "A", and we're hoping Gabe moves up from "B" to "A" based on his stellar performance last season. I'm going to watch Keegan's 1st evaluation session tomorrow, and Gabe's on Saturday. I don't know the exact number, but there are at least 4 of these evaluation sessions for each age group.

Hope everyone has had a great day and has a relaxing evening! 😃
