My old man went to IU Dental in 67, graduated in 71, and took a commission in the USAF to fight the war against tooth decay, also probably a tactic for not getting sent to Vietnam. He did two years in Little Rock, lived in a house with 4 pilots and it was a 5 bedroom 5 bath 5 stereos, 5 muscle cars young 20s pilots vs early 30s Arkansas cougars divorced out of the second marriage kind of place. He titled a Corvette and a Triumph Bonneville on the same day. Still has the Corvette.
After his hitch, he moved to Orlando based on advice of his dental school buddy who was posted there doing the Navy equivalent, and got hired into a practice of two dentists, one owned the practice, one owned the building. A year later, the guy owning the practice had to move cross country for personal stuff and sold to my dad, meanwhile the building owner established a new practice some 20 miles away. He and my dad were neighbors nearly, and my dad made payments but soon bought out the building. I think there was a year of driving what is now my van around the country in between the USAF and the practice. He then ran the practice for exactly 40 years from 75 to 15 and then split the patients that were left in between two colleague dentists with their practices closer to their half of the patients and got paid a fee for each patient that went to one of them, and he would hand over the chart and talk to the dentist about the patient as a handover. He has sold the office, and is still taking mortgage payments on it as he is toting the note. Gives him some good spending money in his 80s.
I made two one week trips to Florida (from Elgin, Illinois) in my 1967 4-4-2 during spring break (1971 & 1972). Five of us (1971) four of us (1972). Drove to Clearwater/St. Petersburg Beach then off to Fort Lauderdale across Alligator Alley. Driving on fumes by the time I reached Andytown, FL just outside Plantation, FL. The first time across Alligator Alley was just after sunset - what an awakening. Two lane undivided beat up (broken chunks of pavement everywhere) toll road ($1.50) w/ hundreds of alligators sleeping on the road the entire length of the road from Naples>Plantation. In 1972 we went to Disney World (opened October, 1971). Never saw so much concrete/asphalt in one place. Parking for tens of thousands of cars & there were 'maybe' 50 to 100 cars in the parking lot. Florida was awesome in the 70s.
Dinner - Two Bagels, split and toasted. Slice of American Cheese, two eggs sunny side up, and slab of ham steak on each Bagel half. I'm just a little stuffed! Yum! 😋
That is a good breakfast, Chris. Since I have retired I have a good breakfast every morning, usually 2 eggs, and whatever meat I have leftover, I've made some good and some shitty omelets!! Mexican made w/taco meat, Italian made w/ spaghetti meat, Maybe a hot dog, or bologna, spam- yep....

Thanks guys, it was certainly a yummy meal! All whipped up by me. Obviously no belly issues for me anymore. Yep Norm, Rolling Rock for Belly Wash!
Taking a minute to catch my breath after being on the phone with several members of my Sister's health/psyche team this morning.
First, here is additional info. When first transferred from the Medical Hospital to the Psychiatric Hospital, my Sister was suffering from the following conditions:
- Sleep deprivation
- Extreme malnutrition. She is a very tiny woman, only about 4' 11" and should normally be around 100 to 105 lbs. When she was admitted, she weighed 72 lbs.
- Severe UTI.
- Severe case of multiple ingrown toenails because she had not been taking care of herself due to her poor mental state.
- General confusion.
- Audio hallucinations.
Since being at the Psychiatric Hospital, despite my Sister and I consistently bringing up the extreme pain of her ingrown toenails impacting her ability to walk, focus, and sleep, this medical condition has fallen on deaf ears, and today I felt forced to escalate the issue above the medical team in her immediate unit, and above her Social Case Worker. I was able to obtain the name/phone number of the Hospital's Clinical Director from her Social Case Worker. Upon discussion with the Clinical Director, the Director proceeded to tell me that their facility was not capable of addressing the medical severity of her feet, and that it would have to wait until she was discharged, although there is no anticipated date of discharge in the immediate future. I told her that in my opinion their choice to ignore her physical condition and constant pain constitutes patient cruelty, and there's no way anyone can expect her to be able to focus on her mental healing when she is in constant physical pain, can't walk, and losing sleep as a result of the constant pain. Then I suggested that their refusal to address her toenail condition might be better taken up by me with the State Healthcare Board or local Media outlets. After that suggestion the Director quickly changed her tune and said she would have medical staff evaluate my Sister today and develop a plan to get her taken care of. I then asked the Director to follow-up with me today as to what that plan is and she said she would. I'm still waiting on that follow-up call! **** Wads!!!

Yep, I am not a happy camper right now. I was barely able to tamp down my anger when I was on the phone with the Clinical Director. It is now after 5pm in Michigan and I still have not received a call back from the Clinical Director as to what "the plan" is now supposed to be to get some relief for my Sister. My patience is wearing very, very thin!

I would be front & center w/ a phone call to congressional leaders in Missouri & Michigan as well as the AG's office in each state.
You're doing an awesome job looking out for your sister.

That is definitely a viable resource I hadn't considered. I have already researched/identified the Michigan State Agency responsible for oversight and regulation of State Licensed Healthcare facilities. Individuals can file quality of care complaints online, by phone, or in writing. That is probably going to be my next step if I don't get a positive resolution soon. Thanks for your kind words, I'm trying!

A Congress person is far, far faster in involving themselves. State Licensing Agencies are not impartial, they must follow protocols, etc, etc. ad infinitum. A Congress person will begin to get the ball moving post haste w/o the need for the flowery protocols.
After the stressful and crappy day I had, what a wonderful afternoon and Birthday dinner I had thanks to my family. First we went to Keegan's 1st grade choir/music concert. I didn't know it, but soon found out Keegan had a miniature Xylophone solo in one of the pieces. He was great!
Then all of us went to our favorite Mexican place in Pevely. The food was fantastic. Then after dinner they gave me with a present I've been looking for for a long time, but hadn't been able to find, a Meramec Sharks (boy's Hockey Club) baseball cap!
Then when we got home, Dawn totally surprised me with a homemade, from scratch, Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Icing. She had made it last night after I went to bed and then had it hid all day today to surprise me when we got home. Wow, I was totally blown away by the whole evening and was so thankful for my incredible family! 😃
Main plate of Hawaiian Fajitas. Bacon, Beef Steak, Chicken, Shrimp, Green Peppers, Onions, and Pineapple.
Additional plate of side fixins for Fajitas. Spanish Rice, Refried Beans, Guacamole, Sour Cream, Lettuce, and Salsa.
Meramec Sharks baseball cap for my b-day present.
Dawn's homemade, from scratch, Banana Cake with real Cream Cheese Icing.
Keegan at his concert in center of picture with grey vest, blue shirt, and tie. He was looking very dapper!
This site is messed up. Far too much latency & back to sporadic 5 second time-outs. It's like a sand box w/ no checklist(s) or rules of engagement.
Norm - Have fun tomorrow and hit 'em straight!
I agree with you that the site is messed up. I've definitely experienced the latency. In my latest post about my evening and b-day events, the software re-ordered my photos, putting the photos of Keegan last, when they should have been first. WTF???
Holy **** Chris, your poor sister! I think if someone told me a hospital was not equipped to handle ingrown toenails I'd be on the next plane. Don't stop with the congressman, go to the governor! But I think she's a nut so who knows. I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday, a nice reprieve from dumbassery. Why does your cake have all those pizza things on it?
Work has been smooth. It will be busy today because there are less people. The week seems to have gone fast. But I'm glad it's the weekend.
Why does your cake have all those pizza things on it?
Mike - I'm going to guess because Chris' wife (Dawn) was hiding the cake most of the day, she covered the cake w/ aluminum foil, Saran wrap, cardboard, etc. To protect the icing from adhering to the foil, Saran wrap, cardboard she used pizza (package) savers.
