Haven't been on this thread in a few days. Norm, so sorry for your cousin's passing. I had a friend since the mid 60's who took his life. Not good. The salad that Jim wouldn't approve of looked good. That reminds me that I haven't made a bleu cheese burger in quite awhile. Though spicy doesn't agree with me, I always throw a bit of red pepper flakes on it while cooking, which in turn, burns my eyes while seering. Worth it though. I planned on doing yard work this weekend, but for some damn reason I've got a frick'n headache that I can't shake. Thought it was pollen related, but no OTC drugs are working. Ordered a rear stabilizer bar for the Olds, along with the bolt kit from Fusick's, didn't think of getting new control arm bolts as well, at the time that I placed the order.
Dan - I haven't had a headache that bad in quite some time - those are miserable. Sleep if you can. Bleu cheese burger + red pepper flakes - that's a burger.
Norm - Scheffler's a great one for sure. I thought Rory might go on a tear after the pressure of winning a Masters was off his shoulders. He still might? How'd the kid's tourney go yesterday?
Dan - Nice getting a rear stabilizer for the Cutlass. Hope your headache goes away soon!
It rained most of yesterday evening, but sun was out this morning with some wind. Went out to mow the forest about noon. Kinda soupy, but glad I got out there. I'm on my last height notch, I sure hope we don't get anymore rain for awhile.
Really looking forward to the Blue's game 7 against the Jets tonight. The Jets have the home ice advantage, but I feel like the Blues are gonna come out swinging for the fences. Plus, I think they've gotten into the head of the Jets goalie after chasing him from the net in all 3 games that were held in StL. Ought to be a great one!
Hosted my father the past few days. Picked him up Thursday in his old van, put him behind the wheel and we drove home and had breakfast. Put van away, swapped to my Monte Carlo, went to new property to tour it. Couldn't fish due to no pond access at new place, so we walked down to my subdivision's lake and I used the collapsible pole he brought me and caught a 1/2 lb bass on 10th cast or so. Put him back. Came home, grilled venison. Friday, we went to Terre Haute, had lunch with his high school buddy, toured grandma's house. There is finally new activity, but they are doing things that don't need done. Drove to cemetery to see relatives and confirm his eventual spot. Drove to Greene County to see his 100 acres. It is so overgrown on the road we just stapled up no trespassing signs, took some pics, and went home. Made lasagna.
Yesterday went back to new place for more pictures, then went to gun range. He likes a big Glock I don't use, so I will loan it to him for the rest of his days. Had fun. Came home, made meatloaf. Got the stereo going and played his old reel decks for him, then some quad stuff on my quad deck, and few LPs. Took him to the airport this AM.
Went to a rainy car show in my daily, my friend and I hung out and talked. Went to grocery store and took a nap. It is raining a lot. Glad I cut all grass last week.
Dan, did you get a factory style sway bar for the Cutlass? I put one on my Cutlass many years ago, bought sway bar and control arms at a swap meet. Later I got a sway bar for the Vista and bought sway bay reinforcements for the control arms and installed them. it made quite a difference in handling on both cars.
John, I envy you to be able to hang out with your Dad- cherish those times...
Well, finally got back to Cutlass "dash project". Got old dash wood grain off with a putty knife and heat gun- glued on new one. Today I plan to get wiper and top switches back in , reinstall gas gauge and clock, put in stereo radio, basically get dash back in. I'll need help putting the seat back in- that maybe later this week. It is finally time to get the car out and about- but with spring comes lots of things that need done- fun things- YES!!
Chris - Had a little drama @ U.S.KidsGolf tourney when a 15 yr. old had a tantrum (swinging/throwing clubs, foul language). Unfortunately, I was the recipient of the behavior because I penalized his play by forcing him to replay his O.O.B. ball from the tee-box & reprimand him for continually using/shouting the F-word when another parent complained to me about his behavior at the end of play. I told the young man there are consequences for inappropriate behavior when I told him these are actionable items which require him to take responsibility.
John - Nice stories of you spending time w/ your Dad.
Greg - You've been busy working on the dash + sway bar/control arms. Agree, significant difference in handling attributes. Did you change front bar sway bar bushings? If not, consider installing new bushings as that tightens things up very nicely in cornering/turns after installing/upgrading the rear end.
We finally received some rain yesterday - not much, but some. We're in a drought on the NC Eastern coastal shore. We'll take anything we can get.
Decent start to our morning, the retriever didn't work but everyone made up for it when it was fixed. Short week as I took off Friday for a doctor's appointment.
John that's awesome you could have dad up for a few days. I sometimes wonder what I'd be doing if my dad were still around. Certainly not what I'm doing now. Don't you think a nap would have been more comfortable at home?
Norm 15 is old enough to beat his ***. If he's old enough to use F in front of everyone's parents, he's old enough to fight. Little ********* like that ruin things for everyone. Who did he think he was, Happy Gilmore?
Dan when I get a headache like that I just lay down and try to sleep a little. Hope it goes away soon. I looked up the Gilmore's volunteer program. It's actually quite involved.
So I think there's a critter in the attic at Mom's. She said she started hearing bumping in the ceiling by the corner of the living room. I could hear it as well. Went out and couldn't find any place something could get in, so I started trimming some weeds/tree branches away from the house in case that was the highway. Looked up in the attic and couldn't see anything. The blown in insulation and the AC ducts block the view to the suspect area. I have no idea how to remove critters(likely a squirrel) but I know it will be expensive if I call a service.
Doctor for Mom today and tomorrow. Start off the month right! Then when I have a chance to do something at my house later this week it is supposed to rain. Eh, in a hundred years no one will care.
Mike - 1st thing which entered my mind was a squirrel, also. They'll tear through electrical wiring in a heart-beat - I hope it's not a squirrel. Could be a bird though.
I thought about a bird. It actually sounded like something trying to get out from the inside, but it seemed too loud for a bird. Next chance I get I'll take my extension ladder over there and crawl up and look inside the vent up at the top of the roof.
That brings up another question, do I need to have this vent at the end of the house if I have those box vents all along the ridge?
Mike - Depends on vent function. I suspect you know the difference between an attic vent & a plumbing vent - yes? You're likely referring to an attic (Gable) vent (I have three) - the type contained/built into an exterior wall of the house directly below the roof gable - likely a louvered vent, yes? Generally referred to as an attic gable vent. I don't know the 'other' vents you're referring to - there are several types including 'ridge vents'. Do the 'other' vents you're referring to rotate or are they static?
Norm they are indeed gable vents. One on each side of the house. I don't have a ridge vent, I have 3 or 4 box vents close to the peak; they are lined up with the vents in the soffit. I suspect the gable vents need to be there or the builder wouldn't have put them there. Trouble is, after 53 years the wood framing is rotten and falling apart and I suspect the screen on the inside has come loose, thus allowing vermin to enter the attic. I'm gonna look around and see if there's a modern alternative to the gable vent.

Good on you Norm! 👏 That kind of behavior doesn't have a place in any sport. I hope the kid gets some kind of suspension from future tournaments.
Mike - I rebuilt (new lumber + new screens) my three gable vents & I additionally built doors to close-off the vents in winter & during hurricanes. I keep all bushes, limbs, etc. 3' from the perimeter of buildings. Anyways, to your question - do you need that vent? I hate telling you what to do, but my suggestion is to say yes it would be in your favor to maintain that vent as it provides the ability to remove as much heat/moist air from the entire house. Generally, there are at least two gable vents opposite each other on both sides of the house. Likely you can close it off if you have a series of static roof vents. Ball is more or less in your court. If it's rotted, screen destroyed, etc. it's likely going to allow rain/moisture intrusion into the attic and down the exterior wall(s). In the long of it (1) rebuilt it or (2) completely close it off but be mindful you close it off properly. Good Luck!
Well, the StL Blues played a great game for 58-minutes of the 60-minute game last night, having a 3-1 lead with only 2-minutes left in the game. Winnipeg pulled their goalie with 3-minutes left and preceded to score a goal at the 2-minute mark, making it 3-2, and then kept their goalie on the bench and scored again with only 3-seconds left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. I was Sick. The teams went scoreless in the 1st O/T, but Winnepeg finally scored to win it in the 2nd O/T. Those final seconds of regulation will haunt those Blues players and their fans for years. A major FUBAR for sure!

Chris - The director of U.S.KidsGolf was there after the round when I explained to the kid there are consequences for that behavior & it's an actionable item which requires him to take responsibility. It's likely a wavy line for the director (he said nothing to me) - managing a large group of kids (6 yrs - 18 yrs) - maybe he'd have preferred to say something to him - I don't know? I said something to the kid after a parent complained to me the kid was F'ing this & F'ing that. I took responsibility to explain to him consequences of that behavior. Whether the director agrees w/ me or not - I considered my action to have been the appropriate action.

Yep. You have to make decisions. Sometimes they're in your favor sometimes they aren't. Hard fought time on the ice for both teams. Looking forward to the final Stanley Cup playoff game.

I agree with your actions 100%.
Back in the day, if I'd have behaved like that, you as an Official, or the Director, would have been the least of my worries if my Dad had witnessed that kind of behavior. My Dad was my best friend and Hero, but he would have kicked my *** if I'd behaved like that!
Got word this morning that the new Roof is going on tomorrow. Forecast is for mostly sunny, 75°, and only 10% chance of rain. Should be a good day for it. The Roofer dropped off the dumpster today for the removed shingles/paper, and they're supposed to start around 0630 tomorrow. Last time they got done it one day, and I'm betting they do the same tomorrow.
Other than that, nothing exciting today. Hope everyone has had a great day and has a relaxing evening!

Had Enchiladas Suizas w/ a tall Horchata. The (younger) gal was new, so I didn't bust her chops but they should have been served much hotter (temperature-wise). I was watching her & I think she was slow to move on picking up her orders. None-the-less, great lunch.
Greg, it is supposed to be the factory style. What surprised me is that it is used from 1964 through 1987. A bodies, Colonnades & G bodies. I usually call to place my orders with them, and he said that it was correct. I assumed '64-72 would be one style, '73-77 another, and a different one for the G bodies.

Sounds good Norm, but I wasn't familiar with the drink Horchata and had to look it up. I think I would have skipped the Horchata and went straight for a Dos Equis Dark.
I had BBQ Pork Nachos for dinner, the 2nd meal from that huge slow cooked Pork Butt I posted about awhile ago. The star of the show was Caramel Apple Pie with Vanilla Icecream.

Dan - That just doesn't seem right that the same sway bar would fit '64 - '87. I'm almost positive the track width (distance between rear wheels) was different between the '64 - '67's and the '68 - 72's, which would lead me to believe the sway bars would be different? Sure wouldn't be the 1st time I've been wrong?
Edit - Yep, I was wrong, multiple sources say the rear track width for '67 and '68 Old's Cutlasses are the same!

I've always had great admiration for Canadian Hockey teams - not to take anything away from the Panthers, esp. since their favored to take it all, but happy to see the Leafs on the board early.

Norm - Like I've mentioned before, I was never a huge hockey fan growing up as a child. Although growing up in the Gordie Howe Era what focus I did have was soley on how the Red Wings were doing any particular year come playoff time. I wouldn't say I admired the Canadian teams, but I certainly respected the dominance of the Canadians and the Leafs back in the day, and later on with the Oilers with Gretsky.
Norm, I am just working on radio/dash now. Sway bars, etc was many years ago. I replaced bushings on 'vert w/ polygraphite which ended up being squeaky, so replaced bushings on vista w/oem rubber type. Seems like a lifetime ago, oh wait... it was...
Roofers are here and promptly started at 0630. The dogs were freaking out for the first 10-minutes but are now doing fine. It will be a long day with the noise, but I'm glad it's going on.
Excellent news Chris. When I had a new roof put on my house years ago I took my dogs to the kennel for the day. They would have lost their minds with all the noise and strangers running around. By the way, is Monty's surgery healed up yet?
Had an excellent start with overtime this morning, then a whopping 4 in the 2 hours and 45 minutes from official start time to break. My wall guy does a great job, when he actually works. He sits and looks at his phone a lot. He goes off with his buddies for extended amounts of time. I've said something to him before but he blows me off. But he'll cry himself a river when he winds up in the soup line.
Second day in a row today that Mom has to go to the doctor. I don't consider it a burden to take her places, because I'm her sole means of transportation. However yesterday's appointment was so she could confirm what another doctor already told her. Like she didn't believe the first one. That's a colossal waste of everyone's time. I'd hate to think I have to approve her appointments before she can go.
Went to Summit cruise in last night. Finally caught up with a couple people I haven't seen in awhile. Nice turnout, but nothing really to write home about. I stayed long enough to walk the lot a couple times, but then went home when I started smelling too much pot. I can't be around that ****. People have a right, as it is, to smoke pot but apparently I don't have a right to not have to put up with it when I find it offensive.
Okay my wall guy finally woke up from his nap, 20 minutes late. The lead isn't here today, that explains a lot. Hope everyone has a good day and the roof goes well.

. . .

Mike - Thanks. I'm surprised our 2 dogs are doing as well as they are, especially Monty, Maggie is just snoozing. LoL Monty is pretty much healed up from his surgeries. His external stitches have not completely dissolved yet, but he is pretty much leaving them alone. He only has to wear the cone now when he goes outside, or when we're both gone from the home. We're both extremely happy with how well he's doing.
I've said it before, but you're a great Son taking care of your Mom like you do! I'm sure she appreciates it. Being 500-miles away from home I always felt guilty about the burden of taking care of my aging parents falling primarily on my Brother and Sister, but there wasn't much I could do about it. I even felt worse when my Brother passed unexpectedly at a young age and it fell on my Sister to take care of Mom her last 3 or 4-years.
