The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Good morning everyone.
Things don't seem to be going as quick as they did the last couple days. But I'll be over 20 by lunch so I'm not too worried. Actually I'm not worried at all.
Thanks for the pictures of the Corvairs. The car in the first picture has a 140 in it, the one with the four carbs. Can't tell if it's a standard. I'm not up on the earlies but I know the engine would be 150hp and absolutely a standard. Love the picture of all the Corvair trucks.
Greg I'm guessing there are others who will stay over night if you don't? How many people does there have to be to have the shelter in the first place? If there's only a couple people left do they just shoo them away? I'd hate to think someone would be boosted for logistics.
Chris do you live close to a general aviation airport? I can tell you an older engine runs beautifully on 100LL. And the exhaust smells better. Some airports will sell Avgas to regular people but you have to put it in a gas can, because it's not authorized for road use(no taxes paid). Backing your car up to the Avgas pump is a big no-no.
John it was nice of the workers to give you a heads up the power was going off. Not many would be that courteous.
It's Hump Day so I'm going out for lunch. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Yeah Mike there are others who will do it. I told them I didn't want to do it tonight, but if they couldn't get someone I would do it. I haven't got a call So all good.. No once they open a shelter they wont kick someone to the curb...
I use to run AV gas in my '66 GTO, went to Grand Haven about 15 miles south of me. Small town, small airport. Pulled up to the pump and filled her up. I didn't do it too often as AV gas ain't cheap. One of my friends with a '68 Z/28 clued me to it.
Hi guys,
Just got back from one of Gabe's hockey games. Gabe hit another milestone tonight, scoring 4 goals, 2 playing Offense and 2 playing Defense, in a 7-7 tie.
On both the goals he scored on Defense, he stole the puck deep in his own zone and out-skated all his teammates and the opposing team to the other end. Speed kills, and he has it! Great time!

I'd like to get some avgas and try it out.
Had meetings this morning. This afternoon, I replaced the flaky breaker, so now I have all power back. Then, my parts arrived for the truck. Mounted three idler pulleys, then considered mounting the belt, but realized the fan clutch holds the pulley of the pump on, so I had better mount that at least snug. I did, and hung the belt. I found the best way to tighten a bolt on something that wants to turn and all you have are other bolts that will go loose via the reaction is to point the wrench tangential to the rotation there, that way you are just pushing the bolt sideways. May work to hold it slightly inboard of tangential. You're pushing with the wrench, not turning, while you crank down on the other one. I got them tight eventually. Then I hung the fan, bolted down shroud, and off I went. The bearing noise is gone. The clutch may have been fine, this thing freewheels sometimes. It's weird. Clunk is still there under some circumstances but should be fine.
Did some masking on an H/O as I have to paint something under the hood.
I figured out a solution for my mom's meatloaf. I like to eat 3/4 of a meatloaf. 1 is too much, 1/2 is too little. The recipe makes two loaves, but, if you make 1.5 the recipe, you get 3 meatloaves and you can eat 3 x 1/4 off the ends for dinner, then freeze the three 3/4 sized loaves for later.

Chris, sounds like the kid has talent. Having a lot of talent can be a burden. One way, you're the best, and you get bored/arrogant, or the other, you get into way above your league to match your talent, and you're too young, too small, or too inexperienced to avoid injury. He needs just enough challenge and definitely does not need burnout so there should be some talks sometime about how serious he wants to end up being.
I swam in school and for clubs, and I was never very good, and I just quit in tenth grade and started another form of horizontal exercise. He sounds like he could be college level at least.

John - Glad you got your truck back together!
Just curious which H/O you're painting and what? I hope to see both of your H/O's in person someday, I love both of them! Maybe one of these days ther'll be a Show some distance between us and we can meet up, I'd enjoy that.

Good morning everyone.
Slow going this morning. Seems we started out great at the beginning of the week and have gone downhill since. Eh, this is my last day of the week so I don't care. Though I would like things to look good so we get our overtime back.
Chris congratulations to the young lad for games well played. He doesn't want to get so good that he outshines his teammates and they all hate him.
If it doesn't rain this afternoon I'm going to mow at my house. I was going to take 4 hours PPT but that would be wasted if it rains. I should be able to get it done anyway. And if it does rain I got plenty inside to do.
Break is over. Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning guys,
Beautiful here this morning. Bright sunshine and headed towards a high of about 85°.
Dawn is gone taking Monty for his 1-week recheck of his surgeries. Hopefully he gets a 👍, and we just keep on doing what we're doing until he's completely healed up.
I spent part of my morning replacing my hot water heater pressure/temp relief valve. As part of the process I checked the thermostat settings on both elements and both were set at about 135°, a little high for my liking and I backed both off to about 115°. So far, so good.
Hope everyone has a great day!

John - Hopefully the clunk will work its way into a better position w/ the new grease. I'll note the 1st time I did mine I recalled I read/heard to grease the splines - both sets, insert the slip yoke to fully engage the splines, then remove the slip yoke & apply more grease. After the 1st grease when removing them again is supposed to drive out any residual air pockets. Oh well, that's how I'll do mine again, worked the 1st time ~100K miles ago. Good deal on the new breaker. Meatloaf - I love that stuff.
I've only met Chris (Erik's brother) a couple times - nice guy. My hot H2O heater is now ~20 yrs. old (2005). I replaced the original anode w/ a new Al anode in 2014, I replaced that Al anode w/ a new Mg anode in 2018, & replaced that Mg anode w/ a new Mg anode in 2022 draining the H2O heater ea. time until a clear stream of H2O. Those were just piece-of-mind maintenance items. I replaced the lower heating element ~2013 or thereabouts. I'm thinking I may need to replace one or both heating elements sometime this year - not sure, I can "sense" a modest disparity in hot water on different days (sometimes) - so, maybe a little inconsistency. We'll see. Still not bad for a 20 yr. old H2O heater. I maintain my H2O temp. @ 120°F.
I own six sets of jack stands - two sets (four) of large 6 ton stands, two sets (four) of smaller 3 ton stands & two sets (four) of (basically) baby stands (I think one ton) & a couple floor jacks. I won't need any of them to raise &/or stabilize the truck for the propeller shaft work since the 4" lift kit creates plenty of undercarriage working room. I will need a couple of the larger jack stands to hold stabilize the entire propeller shaft as I remove it - that beast is heavy.
Fired up the truck to head to the golf practice range, walked into the man-cave & no golf clubs - my bag was gone. Yep, still in the back of my truck (in the open bed) since Monday or Tuesday when I used them last; and, it rained (very lightly) a couple times both Tuesday & Wednesday. I'd make a terrible caddie.

Spectrum Service Alert: Spectrum service in and around your area is being disrupted by a power outage. Restoration estimated by 4:15 PM.
So, I have no Internet (cable) which means on my phone (cellular data), no biggie but there’s no power outages in our area so aim saying BS.

Chris, I spilled some alcohol on the 68's core support so am painting it.
Ralph, I had never thought of that. I will try that next opportunity.
Chris, noted on hockey plans. Carry on.
Greg, glad you are home. I try to volunteer, but that is really volunteering.
Mike, I was fixing to go mow, more below.
Chris, women are cold-blooded by nature. Expect Dawn to complain about lack of hot shower. Hot as in scalding. Women need that for some reason.
Norm, noted on the yoke. It is only clunking when the suspension wraps after a long decel and only in top gear. I think something is a little looser stacked after 300k. I am glad I got rid of it at highway speed, it will nicely go on and off gas for long periods at highway speed. If you stay off it for ten seconds, it will really start to slow down and will do the clunk until you start accelerating again. This is really only at low OD, so may be cue to downshift to 4th anyway. Car did a wild startup with the new clutch last night. Shook like a dog shitting peach pits for a few seconds. I believe the fluid in the fan clutch was not distributed right and it fixed itself. Good now. You may want to get help, at least, around nearby, for that shaft. Sucks about the clubs.
Was going to transport mower to new place today and mow. Aired up the trailer, assembled the hitch, connected, put lights together, no lights. I think the pigtail has gone south. Cut the harness at the splice, checked the wires. All bulbs work, all wires work to the cut. I will install a new pigtail.

Addition, and I should have also quoted Norm's,
And, they want that hot water - NOW!

Well Son-of-a-Beotch, you sure called this one John, nailed it with a sledgehammer. My reducing the water temp lasted all of about 6-hours. After working out before dinner I took a shower. After dinner, probably about 45-minutes after my shower, Dawn was rinsing some dinner dishes before throwing them in the dishwasher. She said, "This water is not getting hot". I said it probably just hasn't had time to recover from my shower. She then says, "It's going to need to be turned back up, when I need hot water, I want to have it." There you have it!

The trailer I have is a serious ute. Tiltable, 5x8, expanded metal floor, foot high angle iron rail, full fenderwells. 2 inch tongue and a 3500 lb axle. I truly believe it can hold more than you can fit on it in weight. The best it ever rode was coming back from WV with 1200 lbs of 67 442 powertrain in it.
After sitting on the drive for a few years, the pigtail had failed, and the ground connection was no longer good. I autozone delivered a 60 inch pigtail and cut off what I wanted to match the original joints to the main harness. After I twisted everything together for a check, I found it was hard to get a good ground, and the bolt from the previous owner no longer made the threads in the grounding hole at the tongue. I decided not to fight the system, took one of the wires I cut off, spliced it to the 18 inch ground intended for the tongue, and just ran a ground wire back with the main harness to one of the bolts with which the light socket assembly bolted into the welded housing Used a ring terminal and a star washer, so now the harness is grounded to one of the light housings. I have always hated ground by chassis method anyway.
Pulled the harness back through the tongue, put the lenses back on, and finished in the dark. Grilled chicken and had a beer. I would've been done a few hours later, but Autozone was 4 hours on their delivery. I consider this a novelty, so I won't complain. I would've driven, but I was hooked up to the trailer and had stuff everywhere.

sucks when that happens. But, hey - at least you're intelligent enough to "use" lights. Hell, the majority of road-warriors around here don't use them - douche nozzles.[/QUOTE]

USPS service is so aggravating/annoying. I don't know how they mange to stay in service. Without jumping on the soap-box, I have no idea when my carrier bearing/U-Joints are going to arrive. USPS states by Friday (today) but the tracking history demonstrates otherwise & it has not arrived at my local USPS & is not Out For Delivery. Had I seen it here (Out For Delivery) I planned to remove the propeller shaft assembly, carrier bearing & U-Joints to get moving on it. I have an appointment for the front-end evaluation Monday morning @ 8:00am. Even if it arrives tomorrow I think it may be cutting it too close for comfort - I hate rushing. My luck it'd be the wrong parts or I get stuck removing/installing components (rushing to meet a deadline). Look it - I'm retired damn it. I have no patience for this $hit. While I feel I'm in a quandary (which I am), I think my best move is to lay back, make the Monday morning appointment & do the propeller shaft R&R after Monday. Phuque it all I tell ya - best to take my aggression out at the golf practice range. Phuque 'em all.
The USPS is F'ing pathetic! Not only is stuff always late, it's getting to where it's often a crapshoot on whether you get it at all!
Norm - Is the Range still intact?
I could have used your help about a half hour ago. I had to go bird hunting. Well, bird chasing is probably a better description. Dawn, the Dogs, and I all zonked out on the couch after dinner. I woke up to find a bird flying around the house. Have no idea when in the hell it got in. I propped the front door wide open, and the kitchen dining area slider, and started chasing it from one area to the other. On about the 7th or 8th trip from one area to another I finally got it out the rear slider. Somehow I was able to get it out without waking them up.

Chris - The practice range requires new sodding. I've chased &/or captured bats flying about in a house - never a bird. I've found birds dead from a broken neck attempting to fly through a glass window in several homes where I have resided. I've never had a bird flying inside any house where I've resided. Each year I occasionally have birds flying around inside the man-cave. Wait - I do recall a bird flying around inside a house where I resided. It was in the Ozarks (Jasper, AR to be exact). Place had a chimney. It was the only place I think it may have entered. I've heard of others who've had a bird flying inside their house though. Figured they must have entered via a vent, e.g. stove-top vent, bathroom fan vent and such. Go figure.
I've spent three days on the practice range this week & I still suck. A couple asked me to play 18 while I was on the range so I got in a round of 18 - gorgeous weather. They asked me join them for dinner at the club - they didn't offer to pay - but I did join them for dinner. The club has absolutely stellar food - I mean stellar; but, I leave with a very, very light wallet each time I eat there - which is why I don't eat there often. I see a fair number of people eating there quite often - far too rich for my blood.
Of course, my propeller shaft parts are not here.
