Whatever we do get will stick though because the high temp is only supposed to be around 24°.

Greg, good on you for helping out Frank with the snow removal! 👍

I just said youth sports "teaches" kids, there's no guarantee they actually "learn"?

I (hopefully) suspect the reason this guy is logged into the site is because someone still (rightfully) suspects the website (child's playground) is bonkers.

Good morning everyone.

Ah, work. Gone 5 days, seems like I never left. It's been a good morning so far, I have two wall guys and two robot guys so I've been busy all morning. Things have been smooth.

Rained all night, gonna rain all morning. Supposedly the sun will come out and it will warm up a little. I think it will be days before things dry out.

Okay question. With long lead-in. I got a bunch of vines and whatnot that aren't really easy to shred, so I thought I'd burn them. Like getting a galvanized trough, about 18 to 24 inches tall and about 6 feet long. If I set that out in the yard would it get too hot and start the grass underneath it on fire? Lots of pine needles as well. I did this years ago at a different house but the trough sat on dirt. Funny thing, we used yard waste for the bonfire, then sat around drinking beer and throwing the bottles in the fire. Next day when things cooled down, the bottles had melted into bizarre shapes.

No plans for this afternoon after work. I moped around all day yesterday until I saw a video of John Goodman dressed up as the Church Lady's mother. That gave me a good laugh.

Okay back to work. Hope everyone has a good Tuesday.

Light to moderate rain all last night continuing throughout the daylight hours, today. With this much rain I routinely develop an ephemeral lake in the backyard - maybe 6" of standing water, currently. It's likely to have ~12" by the time this system passes. Having lunch at my newly found Mexican restaurant w/ a friend @ 12:00 noon, today. Yesterday, I had a 1 hour meeting w/ our Town Planning & Inspections Director reviewing a conceptual development proposal for the 20 acres surrounding my property. It isn't my proposal, it's from a development firm in Greenville, NC. I have no objections to the proposal & development, I just want to ensure my property remains protected & understand the procedural aspects the developer must adhere to moving forward prior to their submissions for CAMA requests with the Board Of Commissioners (BOC). They need to transition the land ordinance from its current land use to a transitional land use. I'm mostly interested they take into account due diligence RE: storm water drainage, water/sewer allocation(s), DOT ingress/egress, etc., etc.

Litter
Just another lazy piece of litter from a kiddy developer. You open the Forum drop-down menu and instead of it reading "Repair & Restoration" it reads "Repair & Restoration". The coding for the drop-down menu is incorrect - it won't accept the ampersand. Instead, it displays the ASCII (unicode) for the ampersand symbol. Yet, no one has attempted to address/fix this issue. If you can't use the correct code, then spell out the word "and" so it reads "Repair and Restoration". Litter - lots of litter.

Snowblower. Snapper 12/27. I've had it about a dozen years. It replaced a smaller Toro that I had for 27 years.

We got just another inch or so Monday night- was supposta get more. So now a total of about 11", but shrinking- getting crusty ,etc. Got snowmobiles out of trailer and took a short ride on land yesterday- seems to be all good w/them. I had to buy a battery for one of 'em . AGM batteries are able to be shipped and are about 1/2 price online than at stores around here. Buddy is a happy boy playing in the snow.
Linda still can't hear **** and we really hope it will get better. It has been 5 weeks on the right ear and 2 on the left. The other night we watched a movie on prime and I actually turned volume up to 100 (high as it would go) so she could hear all of the movie- course some of those movies are really quiet at some points. I am the kinda guy who hates noise and background clutter. I want things quiet- no fans running to go to sleep, etc. Anyway not a good combination..

Yep, I am now sure of it.. if I make paragraphs with spaces at beginning,
then when I send it will take out the spaces. But if I put in a couple dashes,
-- like that... it will look like a new paragraph... Odd yuk ..

Norm, everyone who was in the "first generation of the internet" was an enthusiast and gave a ****. 30 years later, most people have no idea how to even use a PC, let alone build one. Couple that with the general lack of giving a **** on both sides of employer and employee, and you find most tech folks doing the bare minimum to not get fired.

Norm - Maybe I'm missing or not understanding something in this language? You mention "transition the land ordinance from its current land use to a transitional land use", how does that relate to "Zoning", for example Industrial vs Commercial vs Residential?

Greg - That is a real bummer, for both of you! I sure hope she shows some improvement in the near future. Is there another planned follow-up check/exam in the near future?

I studied Fortran, Pascal, ASCII & Cobol in 1971 & I have been immersed in various programming languages/interfaces & operating systems during the evolution from mainframes>PCs, all of which pre-dated the W.W.W. I agree w/ your statements. It's a sad state of affairs what I witness happening these days; yet, I know there remain far more enthusiasts employed in the engineering fields who actually do give a $hit as opposed to these Internet nincompoops.

Good morning guys,

Overcast and cold, but suppossed to get up to about 38° this afternoon. I hope it melts off most, if not all of the inch or 2 new snow we got yesterday. I see some mid-40's temps in the forecast early next week.

Unless you missed my post, you all know my Sister is home from the Psychiatric Hospital, and Dawn and I have been speaking with her on speaker phone together every day. We fear she is still experiencing audio hallucinations and imagining things that really aren't happening. She is supposed to have both a Medical appointment with her regular doctor and a Psychiatric appointment with her Psychologist tomorrow that Dawn and I are praying she makes it to. When she is at the Psychologist the plan is for Dawn and I to participate in the discussion, with the Doctor's approval. I am really hoping this takes place.

I have no big plans for today. I hope all of you have a wonderful and productive day! 😃

Chris - Yeah, well, as you might suspect, much of this has to do specifically with state, county & local authorities. They all carve out their own little piece of the pie and you'll find no two states, counties & local authorities adhere to the same set of rules/guidelines/ordinances/covenants. Residing alongside the "coast" my area must meet certain CAMA (Coastal Area Management Act) governance. Short-story is a transitional land ordinance falls between commercial & residential facilitating development of commercial alongside residential; albeit, transitional.

Chris - It gets a tad nastier in terms of land use, as well. There are several classifications of residential e.g. R1, R2, R8, etc., etc. Each locale is essentially allowed to "define" exactly what are the requirements for zoning. It's like mixing chicken soup w/ gravy + wedding soup.

Hi guys,

Got something positive accomplished today (hopefully). Our daily driver Hyundai Santa Fe is badly in need of new tires, still sporting it's original 2017 Continental P235/65R/17's with 66K-miles on them. The front's still have some decent tread, but the rear's are very thin, and then there's the age issue. Got what I believe is a good deal for tires that large on some Goodyear Reliant All Season Radials (65K mileage warranty) on a Cyber Monday Deal that was still going on. Got 4 tires, installation, and road hazard warranty for $568. Having them put on at the Walmart Automotive Center in Festus Saturday at 8am as long as the tires get there. I'm supposed to call the Automotive Center there on Friday to make sure they're in. 😃

It's that time of year I have to manage my investments/portfolios & I become even more squeaky.

I think I'm old - like in ancient. I haven't been involved in a conversation regarding zeros & ones (0,1) w/ anyone in forever. I enjoy reading some of the newer novelties in computing & networking. It seems nearly all programs today (at the consumer client/server level) are written to accommodate an operating system (OS), which is a logical progression. Unless it's highly advanced supercomputing &/or simple extreme number crunching, there aren't many remaining niches for FORTRAN or any other assembly language or compiled programming languages.

Well, I got one order delivered today, a three piece, 5 ply stainless frying pan set. 8",10" & 12". Quite hefty, but lighter than cast iron. My other order from Columbia, has been delayed four times. First it was Saturday, then Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and supposedly tomorrow. We'll see.

Nice. I asked for a stock pot for Christmas.

Replacing tires on the Tacoma. There are 11 wheels at play here. I have "pretty rims" 1-10 and an ugly original spare 11. Right now, rims 1-4 are on the car, with 11 as spare. 5-8 are the other set, and I have two refurbished rims nicely painted, 9 and 10.

TPMS sensors are a pain. I get mine cloned so I can run two sets. The car knows 5 codes, let's call them A-E. Right now, the car has cloned A-D and the original E sensor in the ugly spare. The TPMS light is on and blinks when starting to say that a sensor is absent, not low. I presumed E in the spare was dead being 18 years old.

I took the best 3 of 5-8 paint wise, and Refurb rim 9 to the mechanic today, with 4 tires, and a second set of cloned sensors A-D. I don't care which rim has which sensor. Tomorrow, I will take them Refurb rim 10, the other tire, and a cloned E, because I want to know which rim has that one, as it will be the carryover spare for next time.

Here's the kicker. I loaded in the mounted wheels into the bed. This means the truck had the original A-D on the road, E in the spare, and A-D in the new tires. Going down the road, the light went off. This means that the E sensor in the spare is fine and it's one of my first set of clones from 2017 that died. These new clones are from 2021, so I am worried one will die before these new tires wear out. Of course, at 310k miles now, the truck might not make 8 years and 70k more miles. So, the truck, the tires, or the sensor batteries might be in a race to the bottom.

I will get another set of cloned sensors here in another 8 years or so and replace all of them, so I don't care which one of the outbound set is dead now.

Nice to see the light shut off, it's been on a year. It will go back on as I leave the new wheels and tires home tomorrow. I'll put them on the truck this weekend. That was probably confusing as all hell.
