Good morning everyone.

Yes Jamesbo I know, I had a neighbor who was from there and always felt like she needed to tell me. There's a couple others around. Like KAY-roh. How-stun. And the one that drives me to distraction, deKAB.

Thanks for getting me the Durkee's. Guess I'll get it from you when we get together coming up. The bathroom and the knee wall are at different houses. Once the bathroom is done I'll have to do the wall myself, I won't have any money left.

Dan I also get pain in my left thigh, and didn't know what it was from. I figured it had something to do with my hip. I thought sciatica was the back of the leg, must be everywhere. I don't get it very often.

Work has been fairly steady. We only have 2.5 mechanics(the third guy isn't worth much) and the wheels have been steady. Glad it's the weekend, though it rained last night so I don't know how much I can do outside. This week has been pretty smooth.

Okay need to prepare for break. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Good morning guys,

The temperature plummeted overnight last night and it's only 25° right now at 0830, and headed towards a high of only around 35°. A warming trend starts again tomorrow, with a projected high of 69° on Christmas day, no thoughts of a White Christmas here. That's OK with me, I don't have to worry about my kids being out and about on snowy or icy roads.

No big plans today. I hope all of you have a great day and weekend! 😃

Hi fellas. As Chris said, its pretty cold but its a sunny, clear sky day in central MO. It was a nice a couple of days ago and then a little rain and some crazy wind ripped through yesterday. I was able to chew up a bunch of leaves with the mower before that all happened. I need to clean those pesky gutters. It'll have to wait on the gutter cleaning attachments I ordered last week. Yay! no more ladders, I hope.

I've started a crock pot with beef soup fixins for dinner tonight. I'm soaking some pinto beans for either chili or ham and beans this weekend. Haven't decided which one.

I have a 12" deep ephemeral lake in the back half of my property from rain last night.

Don - Nice to hear from you and glad you are well. Ya, that wind that came thru yesterday evening was stiff. I had to run out and batten down some of the patio furniture on the deck so it wouldn't end up in the backyard. I hope the new gutter cleaning tools you're getting work well for you. I certainly don't like being up on ladders anymore either unless I absolutely have to. You're beef soup, and either chili or ham and beans tomorrow all sound good this time of year. Stay well and Happy Holidays! 😃

Norm - Just curious, how much rain do you have to get to see that much accumulation in the back half of the property? In a single 2 or 3-inch rain event does that much accumulate back there?

Chris - Entirely depends on two factors: (1) Current ground water saturation relative to local ground water table; and, (2) rate of rainfall. Water table has been up significantly as of late. I don't know any current numbers on ground water table saturation levels but it's up there - soils have been saturated the past several weeks. The third factor in my situation is storm water drainage for which this town sucks large F'ing eggs. If I were to see 2" or 3" of rainfall (currently) over just about any length of time, I'd easily have 1.5' to 2.0' of standing water - not good.

Completely understand what you're describing. It still sucks though! We have water/drainage issues in our Subdivision due to poor design at inception. I'm glad I live on what is close to the highest ground in the Subdivision. I hate to see standing water anywhere close by now due to the resurgence we saw of West Nile Virus in our parts last Fall. I'm hoping we don't see the same thing again in the Spring. In the past our City has regularly fogged for mosquitoes, but last Spring thru Fall it didn't seem like they came through as regularly as they have in the past?

It will take several days for the current water to filtrate into the soil & negotiate some maligned circuitous method of navigation into storm water drainage.

Chris whatever happened with the redoing of the storm drain on the street over from you? Wasn't that last year? Didn't do what they wanted?

Nice here today a little nippy. Sun is out so that helps.

It's currently 63°F. Sunny, but strong winds. I was thinking of playing 18 today but the course is cart path only & this sciatica thing could likely need more time to heal. YouTube is replete w/ supposed fixes for sciatica - everyone appears to have an answer. And, yes, golf can be a leading contributor to symptoms of sciatica (supposedly). Tons of comments regarding golf & sciatica. Sitting for lengthy periods of time contributes to sciatica via compression of the sciatic nerve. Of course, there's a plethora of pharm houses wanting to make it all 'go away'. I'm sticking w/ this (new) PT routine of supposed M.D./P.T. recommended stretching/exercise - supposedly trying to build core yet relax the sciatic nerve. So far, so good - baby steps for sure. Next, is to get into this Yoga Pigeon Pose which is supposed to significantly improve mobility and decompress the sciatic nerve. That will be after lunch - sometime. I'm doing 30 reps each of three other PT routines right now.

Mike - Good memory, and yes they completed that project and it has helped several portions of the subdivision immensely. That project, the 1st of several planned, was projected to make the largest impact. The others will be done as funds/time allow.

YES, building core strength while maintaining flexibility is the best thing you can do for many back/spine issues. I do alot of core work as part of my lifting/core work workouts. It has paid off in spades for many, many years for managing my degenerative joint disease in my back. 👍

I have significant osteoarthritis as evidenced via CAT in my lower back/hip girdle & likely most of my aged parts. I'm thinking this sciatica is a wake up call for me to spend more time w/ PT, exercise & yoga. Lunch next then a quick trip to local hardware store.

Hi guys,

My friend and neighbor directly across the street from me, that I co-own the snowblower with, Grandson plays hockey for the St. Louis Jr. Blues in the NAHL. "The NAHL (North American Hockey League) is the top USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II junior hockey league in the U.S., designed for players aged 16-21 to develop skills and advance to college (NCAA) or professional hockey, offering a tuition-free, development-focused experience with strong community involvement and high-quality competition across the country." They have a home game on Sunday at noon and I'm going to try and go to watch him play and may take Gabe and Teagan if they don't have anything else going on and have an interest.

Hi everyone.

Such a nice day out and fairly warmish. Just got back from the Awful house and after a quick break gonna go outside and do something in the yard.

This morning I took the throttle control off the tractor. Took everything upstairs, the new part, paint, bolts holding the assembly on, and let everything warm up and probably paint the bolts Monday, and reassemble whenever. Need to do a little cleaning and greasing where it mounts up. First of many projects on that guy.

Norm that's nice that you've maintained a relationship with those people all these years. Do they ever come by and see all the work you've put into the place?

Chris hope the games go well. A pre-professional. That should get the boys fired up.

Okay gonna start some laundry and go back out to the tractor. Oh bathroom guy starts on Monday. This is going to cost a small fortune. Eh. Have a good afternoon everyone.

Mike - Family do come by with everyone graciously commenting on the work I've put into the place - they're very appreciative. I watched (yesterday) a lengthy YouTube video (Time Capsule Abandoned Kansas Farmstead & Mechanic Shop! Plus 1930s, 1940s, 1950s Car Graveyard!) and somewhere after 1/2-way through the video was a Farmall 'M'. Good luck w/ your 'M' projects - sounds like fun.

Mike - Glad you're getting enjoyment out of your tractor refurbishing projects. It's always fun to have something to mess with and improve!

As for the hockey today, I thought all my weekend hockey joy was going to be snatched away when I got a call from my daughter last night letting me know that Gabe would not be playing in either game today because he was grounded from hockey (in addition to everything else) because he got zeros on his last 8 assignments in one class and that brought down his final grade from an A to a B, otherwise he would have gotten all A's. Getting him to diligently do his homework has been an ongoing issue for awhile. So I was told not to bother going up to this morning's game because he would be sitting in the stands. In that game his team was up 4-1 at one point and pissed it away losing 5-4.

Apparently he begged and pleaded to play this afternoon and his parents decided to let him play. It's complicated to explain, but the team they played this afternoon had been moved down to Gabe's level after they had underperformed during preseason games. Gabe's Coach, knowing they were probably going to be outgunned, tried to use the same strategy of putting Gabe on Defense again to slow the onslaught, but the other team was just too good, crushing Gabe's team 10-2. To Gabe's credit, only 2 of those 10 goals were against his shift, and he had a hand in their 2 goals with a goal and an assist, so overall he had a very good game.

As it turns out, we are not going to be able to go to my neighbor's grandson's game tomorrow because I had forgotten that my grandson Keegan has a church Christmas music program tomorrow morning at 1045, so Dawn and I are going to that.

Hope you have a nice rest of your weekend! 😃

Shortest daylight (longest night) of the year (Winter Solstice, Northern Hemisphere) has arrived. Humans began recording this event at least 5500 yrs. ago, likely closer to 10,200 yrs. ago.

Good morning everyone.

Today we start the climb out of the doldrums. I can feel the day being longer already. The first couple days is barely noticeable, but after a week, the sunlight is about 15 minutes longer, very noticeable. Actually I think it would be cool to be in Alaska and it be dark all day and night, then light all day and night. Boy I'd never want to sleep. Well, cool except for all the snow.

Carpenter is coming this morning. He says this will take 12 days. This will cost me a small fortune. But if it's easier for Mom then I'm happy. Geez I have about 10 more projects this guy could do for me. I should start playing the lottery.

Strange week ahead. Work Tuesday and Wednesday, off Thursday, work Friday. Same for next week. I doubt we're there past noon on Wednesday.

Okay going over to Mom's in a minute. That guy is there at 9 sharp. Hope everyone has a good day.

You know he didn't say. Might be twelve work days, which would be about three weeks with the holidays. Oy. I did some pre-demo yesterday and cleaned out a closet in the basement so he can have clear access to the plumbing. We did Walmart yesterday, but we went early and it wasn't too bad.

Oh shoot, gotta go.

Ran ~ six to seven 4" long cinnamon sticks through the coffee grinder for a yield of ~ four Tbsps - I only need 1 tsp. I'm making Orange Praline Pecan Sweet Potatoes to take to my cousin's (Hilton Head, SC) Friday morning. Going to peel & cut up 4 lbs of sweet potatoes, next; followed by making (2/3 cup) fresh orange juice + 1 Tbsp orange zest & 1/2 cup chopped pecans. I'll assemble into a casserole dish Thursday, overnight in the refrigerator, place into a thermal ice-chilled pack transport container for the 4 hour ride to Hilton Head.
