The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Chris be sure and check the date codes on the tires once they are put on. Discount put 4 year old tires on my car once, and didn't believe me when I told them. So the guy went out and looked and said, I'll be damned. I said he could leave them on but would have to give me a 40% refund. Nope they put on a new set, actually a better tire than what I paid for. I said I'm happy to pay up for the better tires and he said no we'll take care of it. That was durned nice of him.
Norm is this the first time you've backed the truck up to the porch? It will work I'm sure. Sometimes I back up to my front porch to get things in or out of the house. Way easier than carrying whatever across the yard. Plus my neighbors look at me funny because the driveway is far away from the front porch and I'm parked on the grass.
It is a good suggestion from Mike! I actually requested the date codes for the new tires that were put on the SUV the day I went to the shop, and before they started in on the work. All 4 tires were manufactured September 2025 (Weeks 36 & 37). I will do the same when I go in tomorrow for the truck tires.
Excellent Chris. You can also request the certificates that come with the tires. They have the date as well. In my case, I ordered a tire that was discontinued, and I'm certain they gave me the tires that had languished in the warehouse, not thinking I'd be savvy enough to look. Guess what...
Excellent work Norm. I was actually thinking of backing up so the tailgate was between the railings, but you nailed it. Another idea I had. Ask one of your buddies from the shop across the driveway to help. Then at the last minute drop your end and give the guy a wrenched back. "And that's for screwing me on my truck!"
The retriever has broke twice today, the robot once. We only have 737 mains coming and they have the most tie bolts and take the longest to build. We aren't getting anywhere near we need to be today, and the lead, if he's back tomorrow, will carry on like we're all slackers.

Norm, that's the recipe that you posted, and I used awhile back. The filet mignon turned out great. This weekend, I went to dinner with several friends at a Chinese restaurant. What did I order? The filet mignon. They did a good job, though five ounces doesn't seem to be enough. It did make my wallet a little light.

That sounds like one hell of a filet! Next time I cook a finer cut of steak indoors I'm going to try your recipe. Regardless of whether I'm outdoor grilling or indoor cooking finer cuts of steak, I've always thought the most important key is to sear both sides on a super hot grill or pan as the 1st step to seal in the juices, then grill/cook to doneness at a much lower temperature. I don't know if you remember this, but last New Year's rather than going out I bought us some huge bone-in Porterhouse Steaks that were at least 3" thick. A Porterhouse being defined as having a large piece of tenderloin (filet mignon) at least 1.25 inches wide on one side of a t-shaped bone with a New York Strip on the other side of the bone. I seared them first in a cast iron skillet on the stove. Then broiled the remaining cooking time on the rack the farthest away from the broiler element. They looked very similar to the charring on the exterior and interior doneness of your's Norm.

Good morning everyone.
Wow does that cow look good. Sizzled to perfection. Who was it that said that?
Nothing broke so far this morning, and I'm doing a lot better than yesterday. No one is getting the paper work we need to send the wheels out so things are getting backed up with wheels. Hope the fire marshall doesn't happen by.
Who's going to be in Albany, GA in the next couple days? There's a Valiant for sale and I need it, but I can't get down there till the weekend.
I need to call my carpenter and have him come look at Mom's bathroom. I asked him about it briefly when he was there doing the floors, but I want to have the whole thing redone so it's easy for her to get around. She manages now but it's very small and not terrific. The biggest thing is to make the shower bigger, but to do that he would make the vanity smaller. Not gonna work. I'm going to see if he can move the wall out into the bedroom a foot or so and then we could put in a nice vanity. The bedroom is pretty big I don't think it would make a big difference.
We're having food brought in today. Don't know what it is but it's a vendor so we aren't approving of anything the inept management has done. These people usually bring Olive Garden so that would be yummy.
Okay Happy Hump Day everyone. Hope things are going well for you.

Good morning guys,
Mike - Good luck with a plan for expanding your Mom's bathroom. I hope your catered lunch is good!
Back from my tire appointment already. Service was extremely good again, in and out in about 25-minutes max. Two of the new tires were manufactured in June 2025 and 2 in August 2025 which was fine with me. The new tires I had put on are more of a road/highway tire than the old Goodyear Wrangler on/off road tread that were on there, and the new ones ride smoother with less road noise. I'm betting they'll get better gas mileage too. The main thing is they should be safe and I won't have to worry about a blow out due to age.
Gabe has another band concert tomorrow evening, and then 2 hockey games Saturday, one early in the morning and one in the mid-afternoon. Keegan does not have any games scheduled this weekend.
Hope all of you have a great day! 😃

People around me have put me in a foul mood. A$$WIPE at the Speedway gas station parks next to a pump and elects to spend 20' inside taking a $hit or whatever the hell he was doing. People who put out their trash/recycle bins - mostly the recycle bin. They NEVER break down the boxes, Styrofoam &/or whatever. The stuff sticks up above the top, lid won't close piled to the moon. I'm going to stop there before I have an aneurysm.
Norm, I don't block the pumps at the gas station, but the station that I use has signs posted to pull up to the pumps for gas ONLY! yet some twit will ignore it, and wander inside to do who knows what. I always break down my boxes for recycling. Hell,I'd never get them in otherwise. A question for ya Norm. When I try to use my printer, it goes right to PDF and to my documents file, rather than printing. If I scan, it will print the item. What gives? Thanks.
Dan - It's likely you have a virtual printer selected as the default printer instead of the physical printer. I recall this happening to me some time in the past. I think I changed printers (bought a new printer), unhooked my printer then hooked it back up, or maybe I downloaded a newer driver or something and every time I printed the damn thing printed to a .pdf file &/or a .xml file. Drove me up the tree.

Dan - V. similar to what happened to me. What's different in Windows 11 is this damn "Let Windows manage my printer" B.S. It sometimes defaults to the last thing the printer did.
Anyways, finding the setting to reset your default printer is likely what might fix this.
Try this...pretty simple:

Good morning guys,
Still warm here at 57° at 0900, but dropping throughout the day into the high 30's this evening. We also have rain right now, heavy at times, that's suppossed to continue thru mid-afternoon.
Gabe's Band Concert this evening has been postponed to a later date TBD because the Band teacher/director is ill.
No other big plans for me today. Next up are Gabe's hockey games Saturday. His early game is at 8:15am and is an hour's drive away in McKendree, IL northeast of me.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning everyone.
Been going strong all morning, and then we ran out of wheels. The lead brought quiche for a Christmas treat. So now we sit and wait for more wheels.
I've said something to the gas station people before about cars blocking the pumps when the people leave them and go in. I don't expect anyone to do anything about it, but it's nice to vent I guess. I also rat out the panhandlers. I hate that they're in a bad way, but begging for change from people who are in a hurry isn't the way to fix it.
The carpenter is coming tomorrow afternoon to see the bathroom. I need to grill Mom on what she wants as far as tile and new fixtures. I'm guessing this will cost me 10 grand. Eh, it's only money.
Think I'll take a walk. Hope everyone has a good day.

Well, I have sciatica on my RH side - self diagnosed. It's been building I'd say ~1 year. It's become much worse in the past 3 - 4 weeks. Chance it's been developing over past 8 - 9 years, maybe. Occasionally, I've had bouts in the past when riding the motorcycle &/or driving - always on my RH side. It's always cleared up but generally comes & goes. It's now to the point I need to address this as a likely medical issue, but I'm unclear exactly what that means other than to first attempt to perform daily PT exercises at home to see/determine if this provides significant relief. Dan - You suffer from sciatica I recall?
I played golf yesterday, I stretched before playing, maybe I should also stretch longer. I'll bet as a right-handed golfer sciatica of the RH side likely doesn't help matters. Yeah, it hurts - it hurts far worse in the morning upon awakening. It mostly clears up throughout the day as I walk endlessly from room-to-room wondering why I came into that room.
I just began this morning, so I'll see how this plays out for several months...

Norm - I'm just going to give ya my honest 2-cents. You say your sciatica is "self-diagnosed". If it was me, I would find a competent Orthopedic Surgeon and get a thorough exam and diagnosis before starting in on a home PT regimen. Without an expert opinion and diagnosis you could potentially start doing exercises that might do more harm than good? I'd hate to see that happen! Like I said, just my 2-cents, but it's coming from someone who has had substantial lower back issues since I was in my lower 30's.
Norm - Good luck, I hope you experience some improvement and get some pain relief after some time with the home PT. 🤞
