Day began nice enough w/ mild weather. Thought I'd prepare the CRT TV to hand dolly/truck it outdoors into the garage. Weather turned to $hit 10 minutes ago. Front moving through.
Chris, I would just keep using the car. I know if you punch up any car online you will find that according to whoever posts' it is the biggest piece of **** ever- should have been a recall on it, etc.... Not saying Dan is wrong- I don't know anything about new cars. Our Acadia has 102,000 on it now, when I bought it in 2020, I looked it up and had regrets- oh yeah it was the biggest POS and I will be lucky to make it to 50,000....It has been great, Only thing needed was a thermostat which was done by dealer under 100,000 mile warrantee I got. Crossing fingers..
Greg - Thanks for your opinion, it is much appreciated. I'm not going to do anything in the near future, at least until Spring. Then I might test the waters on selling it myself?
Very cold here. It's 10° at 10am, with a windchill of -3, but at least the sun's out.
Gabe has a game this afternoon at 3pm that I'm going to. The Lions are on TV here during the same time as Gabe's game so I'm recording it to watch when I get home. The Chiefs are out of playoff contention, but the Lions are still in the mix but every game is critical at this point.
Chris - Do not touch your tongue to any metal object while outdoors. Deep Thoughts from Stormin' Normin.
No worries there, the picture of "Flick" with his tongue stuck to the flagpole in "A Christmas Story" is indelibly burnt into my brain! By the way, that's my favorite Christmas movie. Gotta be when the main character's name is Ralphie! And yes, I had a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun when I was young. I'd sure like to rummage around my parents basement and the attic to see if it's still around. I bought Gabe one for Christmas a few years back. It's not gonna be much longer before I'll be getting one for Keegan.

Eventually, I transitioned to a Daisy Red Ryder, but there were several "cap" guns and a Chicago BB Gun which preceded the Daisy. I shot out some windows in the hay loft of one of my Mom's brothers on the farm. I was not in favor with ANYONE after that event.
Cold and windy but sunny. My plan for the day was to get my chineseum chipper/shredder fixed so I could get rid of some yard debris. Only I had the blue van at Mom's and I decided I should load up some boxes from the basement to bring home. An equally important and satisfying event.
I never had a BB gun when I was growing up. I don't remember my friends having one either. We must have been in a weird neighborhood. Probably why I'm not much of a gun person now. My dad always had several guns, of course he was a cop. Mom sold them all after he died but kept two of them, which I have now. I tell people I don't have guns because I don't want to talk about them.
I've been thinking some more about my wedge shaped closet. Maybe you guys can help some more. The slope of the "room" is the roof of the house. I know if I put insulation right up against the roof it will trap heat and moisture and the shingles will curl. I've seen troughs, for lack of a better word, that gets put up against the roof and has a passage for air, and then the insulation goes against it. Does the entire space between the joists have to have the air passage or will part of it suffice? If the entire closet is insulated but no register for AC will the space at least keep withing a few degrees of the bedroom, even with the door closed?
Tomorrow will be the first Monday to go to Walmart. Hope it works out okay. I can't imagine not being stressed after Walmart. Glory be.

Mike - A couple or several things to consider:
(1) Are you talking about a "room" located in the 2nd floor or 3rd (attic) floor of the house?
(2) Is the floor of this 2nd floor or 3rd floor insulated (already)? IOW, does the floor where this "room" is located have insulation?
(3) Not exactly certain what you are referencing as a trough. Does your outdoor roof contain "ridge vents"? Does your home have either lap vents, soffit vents or gable vents? Any chance you have a louvered cupola (or two)?
Insulation installation in Georgia will be slightly different than insulation where you grew up speaking Zamboni. Just for clarification, so we remain on the same page, a typical "sloped" roof is made up of "rafters". So, refer to your roof as having rafters and not joists. Joists are referred to in the building industry as those members contained within a "flat" surface e.g. such as a ceiling, a floor or a "flat" roof. A sloped roof is made of rafters.

Reason: spelling
My home had no insulation in either the ceiling joists or the roof rafters. The key to remember is this. The intention is to "contain" the conditioned (heated) space. On paper-backed fiberglass or foam insulation you want the paper (vapor barrier) facing towards the conditioned (heated) air space. In my home I chose to insulate the roof with insulation between the rafters with paper-back (roll) insulation w/ the paper (vapor barrier) facing downwards, towards the conditioned air space. I have no soffit vents, I have no roof vents but I do have ridge vents and I have one 4' x 4' louvered gable vent on three sides of the roof (house) - one facing North, one facing South, & one facing West. I also insulated the ceiling joists above each room.
Mike - I remain a little confused about your 'wedge' room, so let's clear up what is meant by a wedge room. If I'm not mistaken, I believe what you're attempting to accomplish is to close off the space between the roof and the floor - by turning into a room, is that correct? Generally speaking, the 'wall' you intend to construct is called a knee wall & this is because many (most) enclosed spaces are fashioned with a wall whose height is approximately the height of a person's knee (at knee level). The wall runs from the floor to the roof line (rafters). This is not to say that wall has to be at knee level, it could be any height between the floor and the roof line. When you refer to this new wall, is that the type wall you want to construct? Or, possibly, do you intend to install sheets of drywall directly against the roof rafters inside this room - not really creating any knee wall or any type wall but instead simply to create a wall against the roof rafters?

Hi guys,
I saw another good game this afternoon except the final result wasn't as great. Gabe started back on Offense as Center as he usually does and had another great game having a hand in all his team's scoring with 2 goals and an assist. His team was up 3-1 going into the 3rd Period and then they allowed the other team to tie it up late in the 3rd. There are no regular season overtime periods or shoot-outs so it ended in a 3-3 tie. Can't believe I'm saying this, but it almost made me wish Gabe's Coach had moved him to Defense again for that 3rd Period to try and preserve the win. Wouldda, Shoulda, Coulda, from the arm chair analyst! LoL
I will catch up on the rest of you guys posts later. Hope everyone had a great day! 😃
Sharpened/Pulled my two filet knives across my long (wet) sharpening stone. Learned one of my cousins purchased a home on Hilton Head Island & is now a permanent resident of South Carolina. Sent off a letter to RBC Heritage (PGA golf tournament) in case they have remaining needs for volunteer opportunities at the 2026 RBC Heritage.

I started with a Winchester model 12 Still have it with 2 stets of barrels [dove and quail]

Not really a loss, but like they say, a tie is like kissing your sister!
Oh yeah - it was a tie (forgot).
Mossberg 20 ga pump is a nice unit esp. w/ a modified choke barrel. I traded my .410 ga Higgins w/ one of my brothers who kept Dad's 12 ga Higgins w/ adjustable modified choke barrel. After the trade I re-blued (cold re-blue) the entire shotgun. Maybe I should have done a hot-bluing, but any bluing was better than no bluing.

My 2nd shotgun was another Mossberg pump action chambered for 2 &3/4 or 3 inch shells, and came with 2 barrels, a regular modified choke barrel and an 18 & 1/2 inch (minimum legal limit) home defense barrel. I later bought a rifled and iron sighted slug barrel for it. I kept that one also and it sits with the home defense barrel on it, loaded in my bedroom closet with 3 inch magnums with 00 buckshot in it. I can't imagine a better home defense weapon.
My Dad, who was probably the purest shooter with a shotgun I ever personally knew, carried an old single shot, break action Iver Johnson 16 gauge. Honest to God truth, I don't think I ever remember him missing anything, whether it was a rabbit, pheasant, quail, or ruffled grouse.

Mike - I figured out what you're referring to by troughs. They're called baffles (air chutes) - behind the insulation mounted/placed between the insulation & bottom of the roof deck to provide air flow from soffit vents. Your house have soffit vents? You have ridge vents?
Norm the wedge room is second floor, behind the wall of the bedroom. It is basically attic space because it is not living space, but not above the room, adjacent to it. It looks to me like the floor is insulated. The back of the wall to the bedroom is insulated, and there are various spots of insulation anywhere else.
I do have soffit vents, placed maybe 8ft on center, and also one long ridge vent that spans the length of the house. I was absolutely referring to insulation baffles. That go between the rafters, not joists. Silly me.
I will try to attach a picture of the space. I can either build a knee wall or run the drywall all the way down. It doesn't really matter to me, I was just asking someone else's opinion.
Okay I didn't think it would come out this big.
The plan is going to remain simple. Whatever flooring I put in the bedroom will continue on into the new closet. The drywall in the closet will be finished and painted probably white. Insulation for sure on that outside wall.
Does the entire space between the joists have to have the air passage or will part of it suffice? If the entire closet is insulated but no register for AC will the space at least keep withing a few degrees of the bedroom, even with the door closed?
(1) Does the entire space between the joists have to have the air passage or will part of it suffice? Optimally/Ideally, I'd say the entire space yet I suspect any sized area would suffice - restricting that space is going to restrict air flow from soffit vents to the ridge vents do the larger the better, IMO.
(2) If the entire closet is insulated but no register for AC will the space at least keep withing a few degrees of the bedroom, even with the door closed? Absolutely clueless (as usual).
Yes, very sad, first saw that later last night. Their middle son is now in custody on an "unknown felony charge", from what I'm seeing from reputable sources.
Walmart was almost a delight today. Hardly any people in the store, got to park right up front, and most importantly there was an electric cart for Mom to use. In fact saw two of my neighbors there and one of them said, you used to come on Sunday? Are you crazy? Looks like my days off are going to change, again, so it will be back to Sunday. But we'll enjoy Monday while we can.
Very sad about Rob Reiner and his wife. I've never heard about their son being a troublemaker, so one can only imagine what set him off to kill them. Allegedly. Probably money.
Pretty out but cold as a mother. Gonna putter around in the yard after break. Gonna get up 60 this week. Wish it would stay there.
Was suppossed to have the new tires put on the truck today, but had gotten a call Saturday from the tire place saying they did not anticipate having all the tires there by this morning at 8:15 when my appointment was scheduled for. I rescheduled for Wednesday morning at 8:15 and have since been notified that all the tires are in. I wasn't excited about going this morning anyway because it was colder than a *****. Supposed to be back up in the 50's tomorrow and thru Friday I believe which will be nice..
It's been crazy cold here, today. I don't recall it being this cold this early in the season for many, many years. Not a fan.
Chris - One less thing to have to attend to in the cold weather for you today.
Mike - Sounds like a decent trip to Walmart. Nick Reiner has a long storied history of mental illness stemming from & beginning w/ drug addiction when he was 14 years old.
The plan is to determine if I can back the F250 diesel tractor up to the front porch between the two staircase railings w/ the rear tail gate lowered then hand dolly the CRT TV from the house onto the porch & into the back of the truck.
Monday for me, day 2 for the shop. Had a good showing before break but now the tire retriever and one of the robots are broke so everyone is sitting doing nothing. And of course the lead isn't here.
Norm is this the first time you've backed the truck up to the porch? It will work I'm sure. Sometimes I back up to my front porch to get things in or out of the house. Way easier than carrying whatever across the yard. Plus my neighbors look at me funny because the driveway is far away from the front porch and I'm parked on the grass.
Chris be sure and check the date codes on the tires once they are put on. Discount put 4 year old tires on my car once, and didn't believe me when I told them. So the guy went out and looked and said, I'll be damned. I said he could leave them on but would have to give me a 40% refund. Nope they put on a new set, actually a better tire than what I paid for. I said I'm happy to pay up for the better tires and he said no we'll take care of it. That was durned nice of him.
Guess I'll go for a walk. Hope everyone has a good day.
