Dan - Check out my post #46271 not far above. Beyond what's described in that post, I also checked that tank/straps and it is secure. Didn't think to look at the shocks or springs, but that will be next, thanks!

Jim - You see I responded to Dan that my next checks will be shocks and springs. Don't know that I'll know with the springs whether they're installed correctly or not, but maybe I can take pics and compare to the CSM. If that doesn't work I'll post on here and get opinions, Norm owned a '67 and John still does. Thanks!

I don't recall having any peculiar noises emanating from my '67 4-4-2 during my period of ownership (1969 - 1972) while the car was moving; however, I changed the stock exhaust mufflers to Glasspack mufflers right after I bought it (1969); so, I may have not heard anything anyway. Growing up in Northern Illinois everyone owned two full sets of tires - snow tires & regular (bias-ply) tires (mine had red-stripe bias-ply tires). Snow tires always created a unique sound. There were numerous occasions I heard a "thump, thump" in the rear seat; but, not while the car was moving.

My Dad always had a set of the steel studded snow tires for the primary daily driver. Those studded tires were exceptionally loud on bare pavement. The exceptions were the Corvair (not the primary driver) and the VW Beetle which were exceptional performers in the snow. The only way they got stuck is if you set them up on the frame on top of deep snow.

Mike - Hope you and Jim made it through the rough weather OK, I was thinking about both of you last night as the storm went through the Atlanta area!

I didn't make any mods or changes to the car before I started hearing the noise. Good suggestion about it possibly being something in the trunk area. Unfortunately, I checked that, took all my car show supplies out, and the jack, and made sure the spare was secure, and I could still hear the noise,

Good morning everyone.

Another extra early start this morning. We are doing pretty well, but I hope we don't do too well, so we have to sit around a long time. Last week the lead told us to hurry up so we could leave and then made us sit an hour, because "we can't go home too early."

The power was out last night for 3 hours. We ended up eating cereal by candle light. Other than a few branches down I didn't see any damage in the neighborhood when I left for home. I hear towns south of me really got hit hard.

Supposed to be cold all weekend but no more rain. I want to take a ride to western Alabama and look at a Valiant. Read that as, I'm planning on buying that Valiant. I have a feeling I'm going to have trouble scheduling going to see it. The guy is kind of flaky.

Joy. My robot is broken. Eh, maybe I can get in a little nap. Or I can go for a walk. My wall guy is educating me on guns. Great.

Have a good morning everyone.

Mike - Glad you made it through the storm with no major damage. Good luck with the potential Valiant purchase!

Jeff, I was thinking about you the other night as a bunch of us went up to the Sandbar. These people had never been there. They were amazed at the old "atari" style quarter operated video games! (Pacman, etc) . Still has the 1983 carpet! I'm sure many stories came out of that place- We also went to the Nottingham Bar on old 27. That is also old school. I hope you are happy with the sale of the Starfire.

Good morning guys,

Sunny this morning, but pretty chilly, 19° at 0730 this morning. Its supposed to get up to around 40° though this afternoon.

Wife's oldest daughter is coming to pick her up sometime this morning and go back to her house so my wife can help her with a couple of things and to visit with the granddaughters. I will go pick her up from there sometime this evening.

No big plans for today, other than I'll be on dog patrol, and tending to their needs.

Hope everyone has a great day!

The owner of the Sandbar lives a couple streets over from me on Lake James. I told him he should be making a killing renting the apartment(s) above the bar, but he seems pretty set against making money. I don’t think he’s put any money into that dump, but it’s my favorite bar up there, regardless. It must’ve been quite the place in its heyday.

I couldn’t be happier about selling the car. He should be picking it up within the next couple of days.

--What is that they say- "happiest day was when I bought my classic car, 2nd happiest day was when I sold it"- something like that - I've been there also.
--Well today I decided to take Olds out of winter slumber. I tucked it away behind my pontoon boat thinking I was going to work on my F100 over the winter. But now truck is getting painted at a friend's. So I need a project to keep busy. Had to pull boat out of barn, move out Cutlass then put boat back in. All went well, car started fine. It was about 20 degrees- for sure the coldest this car was started since I've had it! I am going to replace or maybe rebuild brake calipers and replace brake hoses. Sometimes car dives to right on braking I think caliper or hose is sticky.....

Hi everyone.

Nice day but cool. Started the brakes on the car but had to go get a C clamp and didn't get back to it. Maybe tomorrow afternoon when I get back.

Jeff good for you selling the Starfire. Hope the new owner has good luck with it.

I played Space Invaders on my home Atari so much I couldn't get knocked out. I'd play until I got tired and just have to turn it off. Never got into PacMan. I'd play this game Turbo at the arcade, otherwise wasn't a real game player.

Dan I think the eagle is about the most majestic animal. We have several hawks around here, one used to sit on my porch railing. I think he left about the time Tiger came on the scene.

So tomorrow morning early I'm headed out to see that Valiant. Tiger is coming with me. I'm leaving early so I can get back early. Haven't looked at a Valiant for a long time. Hope it's a nice one.

Have a good evening everyone.

I’m happy. This frees me up to work on other things, like getting my Jet Mate running. Not to mention, the proceeds will pay some tuition.

I should really pull this entire twin double-hung window & frame & install completely new - these (vintage) boxed twin double-hung windows, frames & storm windows are expensive. I don't mind a challenge. Time, patience & the correct tools. The goons who constructed this add-on addition were complete hacks.

Hi everyone.

Long day, long ride, and for nothing. Well, I wouldn't say that. Got up before the chickens and headed out to western Alabama to look at a Valiant that has sat many, many years. It was surprisingly rust free, a couple spots, a little beat up, trashed interior, and the windshield was so cracked you couldn't see through it. Guy said he was firm at 1500. I thought, that's okay, if it's as nice as he's projecting, it would be worth it. Nope. Got there, the guy was a douchebag. The place was a disaster. No room to turn my truck/trailer around. Left without it.

So on the way there, my magnetic tail lights fell off one at a time. I stopped for gas and one was missing. I said, one is still there it will be okay. Got off the interstate and heard a weird noise. Pulled over to find the one ramp had come out and ground down mounting ring. Also found the other light missing. Just the harness plugged into the bumper dangling out the back. Eh, daylight, don't really need them. That would have been my story, anyway.

Tiger had a good time. He slept most of the day but otherwise had his happy face. My favorite place to stop for gas is Love's and when we were there we played in the dog park.

So I think I've experienced personal growth. I stood next to this car running(it ran really smooth) and thought, this car looks just like the other crappy Valiants sitting in the yard. Why do I need it? What will this car be that the others aren't? I decided I wasn't going to drive for hours to look at crappy Valiants anymore. You know, if this car were any closer I would have bought it. If it were less money I would have bought it. If the guy wasn't a Douchebag I would have bought it. Actually, the trailer not having lights and the car totally blocking the truck's lights didn't enter my mind.

I'm beat tonight. Funny how you just sit and do little when you drive but on a long trip it really takes it out of you. Get to sleep in tomorrow, if I don't get up for Awful house. Short week again, I could get used to this.

Hope everyone is having a good evening. Happy Birthday Ollie.
