Good morning guys,

Up earlier than I've been in awhile because I had a Grandpa task. Grandsons Gabe and Keegan are in their School sponsored Summer School Program that's 4-weeks long and intended to give the kids exposure to the environment and curriculum of whatever Grade they're they're going into. Keegan won't have much of a change going from Kindergarten to 1st, but Gabe is going from Middle School (6th) to the Jr. Highschool (7th-8th), so he's getting acclimated to his new building and teachers. Mom had to be at work early this morning so I had to run over and get Keegan on his bus, no biggee!

Sometime this morning Dawn and I are taking the dogs to a doggy daycare (and overnight boarding) to check out the facilities, staff, and see how the dogs do there? This is a HUGE step for Dawn, and I'm hoping it meets her standards for "her babies"! I'm really hoping this turns out well in the long run so Dawn and I can start planning some weekend getaways at first, and hopefully some longer trips down the road. Like Norm says, Baby Steps!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Yes, they certainly are crazy. She usually only uses hers when playing with the grandkids who all had pairs at one time.

That’s right, baby steps. I was up at 3:30am yesterday and 5:00am this morning. Jim was likely up @ 2:00 to SSS before his sewer cleaning at 5:00am.

Dan - I had a similar issue as you’re having with intermittent signaling. Turned out it was the socket/bulb receptacle. Did an R&R on that receptacle issue resolved. I could not actually see what was going on until I removed the receptacle itself. Cut the wires, grabbed a generic 1157 receptacle, maneuvered into its hole wired it up and was golden.

Good morning everyone.

Chris I got a good laugh out of your description of the Kangaroo shoes. I was thinking the same thing. You know I thought I felt the earth move earlier, must have been when Dawn decided to go look at the kennel. Maybe you could leave them for a day, drop them off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. They might actually enjoy it.

Glenn the wooden platform shoes look okay. And that's from a Dutchman. Why is one taller than the other, do you live on a slope? The wooden blocks reminds me of my first Valiant. My grandmother bought it new and even with the front seat all the way up she couldn't reach the gas pedal. So she taped a block to the pedal so she could drive.

Work is okay. After two lackluster days the lead started griping. Gave us a couple threats. He said if we don't shape up, HR already wants to have staggered starting times, so things are running longer each day but we only work 8 hours each, and also a second shift, which apparently nobody here wants. We're doing much better today.

Anybody know anything about putting modern electronics into an old car? I'm going to start a thread to ask that very question. I want power seats in the Chevy but I'm not sure they will work. Maybe our resident rocket scientist will know.

Okay have a great day everyone. Lunch day, and it's nice out.

PS Chris I'm not mocking Dawn for not wanting the pups to go to the kennel. She has my empathy. My dogs have always done well at the kennel but I still worry about them. My other two shepherds I got from the pound and they had also spent a lot of time there, so I always felt bad leaving them because I didn't want them to think they'd been left again. Your dogs will probably do better than Dawn does. The kennel is sometimes a necessary evil. I don't like it for other reasons as well.

Mike - Excellent question for the rocket scientist.

Chris - Those Kangaroo shoes come with warnings? Driving while wearing could cause serious injury or death?

When I had dogs and needed a kennel my 1st priority was cleanliness of the kennel. Easy for dogs to catch something else in a unsanitary kennel.

Mike/Norm - We just got back from checking out and dropping the dogs off at the doggy daycare, "A Howlin' Good Time". They actually specialize in Bulldogs, the Owner/Director owns Bulldogs, and the facility is the primary rescue facility for Bulldogs in the greater St. Louis area.

The facility looked very clean, and all the dogs looked like they were having a great time. They have both a large indoor A/C play area and a large outdoor play area. For overnight boarding they are not kept in cage kennels. They are kept in their own open pens, that actually have couchs for the dogs to jump up on and sleep, and astroturf on the floors. Definitely large enough where Monty and Maggie could share a pen and stay together. All the staff were very nice. The dogs are there right now by themselves for a 3-hr trial run. 🤞

Here's a link if you want to check it out:

Hi guys,

By all indications, the dog's had a great time at the doggy daycare. They were totally worn out when they got home. The staff said they did great with all the other dogs. You can see the costs via the link I provided to you above, the costs for daycare and longer periods of overnight boarding ain't cheap, but I'd gladly pay a premium for Dawn and I to be able to travel again like we did before we had the dogs. I'd really like to get some more heavy duty mountain hiking in while we can still do it, if we even still can?

Dawn's got another huge Pork Butt in the slow cooker for pulled pork sandwiches. It'll be ready for tomorrow's dinner.

Sure felt like Summer today, sunshine and 90°. More heat tomorrow. I was hoping to go to Car Shows on Saturday and Sunday, but the weather forecast sucks right now. We just can't get away from this rain.

I hope everyone's had a great day and has a relaxing evening! 😃

Nice story about the Valiants gas pedal . Your Imperial looks very nice and you seem to have several nice cars Mike.
The shoes have the same height , the left one is just folded up a little. Picked up an old Suzuki ATV some weeks ago ,
we have several large trees here and i,m tired of using wheelbarrows to remove all these leafs to the wood so i hope
i can drive this instead. But it was a fun thing to drive only 250cc. Looking for a little carriage now :

the barn before this.

Good morning everyone.

Things are going well so far this morning. I've got a good bit of wheels signed, though my team doesn't seem to be breaking their backs at all. Slow and steady wins the race.

Chris I'm so glad the pups had a good day at Doggie Daycare. I hope Dawn had a good day as well. I didn't want to comment on how expensive the place is, but since you did, I'll just say they have to pay for all those couches and chairs. They must get them from Flexsteel.

Thanks Glenn. I need to do more with the cars. Time gets away from me sometimes. Funny thing about the Valiant, my grandmother bought it new and owned it 19 years. When she gave it to me the seat tracks were rusted and I couldn't get the seat to go back. It took many attempts with penetrant to get things moving. I could barely get behind the wheel initially. Like your pickup btw.

Another doctors appointment for Mom today. Two in a row is pushing it, but she broke a tooth last week and the dentist is squeezing her in, so can't complain too much. No word on overtime for Saturday, so it looks like I'll have the whole weekend to myself to get into trouble.

Well hope everyone has a good Thursday.

One of my Mom's trick maneuvers was taking out building walkways at medical facilities. Parking at her doctor's appointment she knocked down the walkway fencing & the following week she took out some landscaping concrete blocks used as a building walkway in front of the building while parking in front of the dentist's office.

Mike - Glad you're off to a good start this morning. 👍

You're right, they've got to pay for the amenities somehow. Dawn seemed to do well while they were gone, keeping busy, but heck she's almost always busy. She did call and check on them after after 3-hours, and they ended up staying about 5-hours before we picked them up. I think staying overnight for more than a night or two would be a bridge too far yet, I'm not even sure about a night? Baby Steps . . .

Norm - Sounds like your Mom never found a road obstacle she couldn't conquer. My Mom was a horrible driver, with probably the worst attribute being she drove way too slow becoming an obstacle for everyone else on the road.

Glenn - Glad you were able pick up the Suzuki to help with the yard work around your place. Hope you're able to find a trailer that meets your needs. Hope you can get all your firewood in so you can get out and enjoy the cruise! Good luck!

I think it was about 2 - 3 weeks later younger brother had "the talk" w/ Mom. Time to surrender the keys, Mom. Several months later her car was sold. It was during a period of transitioning Mom between a senior living facility & a assisted living facility; so, she was more or less accepting of the inevitable.

Well, at least your Mom had an excuse, she was getting on in years. My Mom was horrible from the get go in her 20's. My Mom didn't even have a license until I was probably 4 or 5 (best guess). I do remember several tense car rides with Dad trying to teach her how to drive, they were not fun for any of us!!! To her credit though, when Dad bought our first 4-speed commuter car she did learn how to drive it. It was a little Datsun 210 and that damn thing ran forever.

I believe Dad taught Mom to drive; and, to his & her credit he taught her to drive a stick. I'd venture to say she was ~17 or 18 yrs. old (1950/1951). I recall a day (~1955/1956) Mom & my brother two yrs. younger than me were at some lake. I don't remember exactly why we were at this lake, but Mom managed to back her plain-Jane dark green 1953 Chevrolet Bel-Air into the lake - buried it right up to the floor boards. Hysteria ensued - my brother & I thought we were going to drown. Dad grabbed a buddy after he got home from work & dragged it out of the lake. It took some time before her family & friends stopped teasing her about that event.

When I traded cars with Mom a few years ago, I traded my then car on a new Equinox for her and I took her Saturn Aura. The info thing on the Aura told everything. One of those things was average speed. Mom had driven that car since new, and her average speed was 19mph. I got a good laugh out of that. She too drove slow and I'm sure was the bane of everyone around her.

When she moved to Georgia to be by me, I told her the fancy car would be going away. We'd have something for her to drive, just not that. It had a high payment. She said, don't get anything I'm not going to drive anymore. My sister equated slow driving with bad driving and always told Mom she was a bad driver and she should stop driving. Mom was actually quite attentive, even if it took her twice as long to get somewhere. I told Mom I was not asking her to give up driving and my sister could go pound sand. She said she didn't always feel comfortable driving and in a strange town didn't want to learn new places. So the car went away and I drive her everywhere. I complain sometimes but I'm glad to do it. I mean, she's my mom, I'd do anything for her.

Now my friend's mom, wrecked her car so often the body shop sent her a Christmas card...

Norm, with the last Cutlass that I had, the '71, the taillights stopped working altogether, and upon inspection, the sockets were rusted, and the springs for the contacts wouldn't make contact with new bulbs, as they were pushed down into the sockets. I sprayed the crap out of them to no avail. I replaced them with parts store chinesium units and spliced them in. I will do that again if necessary, but I wish a better socket was available. Tokk the Hyundai in this a.m., she's been making a droning sound while going into long righthand turns, like offramps. occurs only when turning right, and the sound emanates from the left front. I suspect a wheel bearing, but it does not quite sound like bearing failures that I have had on other cars. We'll see. The a/c guy just showed up to replace the blower/fan unit on the a/c compressor. They ordered the warranty replacement unit, but it took a bit to get here.

Considering the inbred savages that run "wakeboard boats" these days, and the malicious delight they take in actively buzzing people, I would not run an amphicar anywhere with that freeboard. I've been buzzed in my sailboat, took pictures of them, and they followed me to shore harassing me, so I went and got a rifle. They left fast, I didn't even have to point it at them. All talk it seems.

Dan - I hope they can reproduce and isolate the cause of the noise. I don't know if you remember, but I could never isolate the cause of the noise in my 4-4-2 's rear end before the driver's side rear bearing catastrophically failed. My biggest problem was the noise came and went. One time I would take it out and I'd hear it for awhile, then the next time I wouldn't hear it at all, it was weird? I think the 70mph on the highway the day it failed was the last straw for it. I'm still thanking the man upstairs that I didn't wreck when it finally went!

When I used to boat alot, it never ceased to amaze me how many idiots there were on the waterways, especially narrow, shallow rivers with untold numbers of obstacles barely below the surface.

Yes, I did say that, but only because I really don't have a dog in the fight, and I wanted to see more great games like the first two were. After Edmonton got behind last game and started taking some really dirty shots at some of the Panther's stars, my feelings totally changed. Now I hope Florida crushes them in 5.

Must win game for Oilers tonight. I expect Oilers to hit the ice like crazed Rhinos. Oilers need to go deep into their bench soon & furiously to punish the Panthers. If Panthers can hold their own in the 1st period Panthers have a chance. If Oilers can go deep into their bench w/ some unrelenting "blow it out your *** motorcycle man" (FZ) dynamics Oilers will dominate.

I agree, the Panthers better be ready for a buzz saw in the 1st Period, and if they can survive that they'll have a good chance. Conversely, if the Panthers score early, and the Oilers lose their cool like they did last game, it could be over early. I'm recording it on the DVR and probably won't even start watching it until 7:30 or 8 CDT. Keegan has a baseball game at 6:30, got to head out of here soon.

Between the Hyundai (wheel bearing) and the a/c, I'm 1k lighter in the wallet tonight. I changed the oil in the Hyundai one month ago, and it was down 2 qts already.

Wow. That's an amazing amount of oil consumption. That's worse than my Tacoma when I had a quarter inch gap in the valve gasket and routinely left a mushroom cloud above the car when parked until I fixed it.

It is supposed to rain the next three days. Since Sunday, I believe I have spent 10 hours on a riding mower, pushed a push mower for an hour, and weedwhacked for about 3 hours. Both properties look ok. The weedwhacking was to expose the yard art. I took pictures to take to an architectural salvage place; I hope to get them to come get it all. A selection follows.

Good morning everyone.

Good start to the morning. One of the mechanics was late so his wall guy gave me all his wheels. And when the mechanic came in he brought donuts.

John I can't believe you want to get rid of all that stuff. The arrow is way cool, And the hitching posts. The face things no so much. Maybe you can relocate them. Well, I guess that's what you're doing.

I had to look up what a wake boat is. While the Amphicar rides low in the water, they are very stable. Remember a couple crossed the English Channel. LBJ's Amphicar is still at his ranch.

No overtime this weekend but it's going to rain. So I'll get the same amount done either way.

Okay headed into break. I have 20 wheels already. Have a great day everyone.
