I am going to be doing a big cleanup, wax, etc on Olds soon. I ordered some ceramic wax and a claybar system. I plan to start w/engine, then to trunk, interior, then wash and wax outside. Took it for a drive yesterday, ran good.
Chris, you missed a spot. I was going to order three cans of Underhood black from Eastwood, but at 24 bucks for a 11oz. can of aerosol, and 15 bucks shipping, I decided that I didn't need to spend $90 with them. So, I'll be looking at some Krylon semi gloss black locally.

Dan/Greg - Good luck to both of you with your detailing projects. Dan, $39 for an 11oz can of paint is outrageous. I ran into something similar recently. I've been using the same Mothers Chrome Polish (on left in pic) for years with great results. Last time I bought some a couple years ago it was $10 at Amazon or Walmart. I was almost out so I was going to order more, now it's $18 at Amazon or Walmart, AiYiYi! I ordered the new Mothers liquid spray chrome cleaner/protectant (on right in pic) they're making for $10. I'll let you know how it works.
Rain. I didn't go to lunch yesterday because it was supposed to rain, and didn't. Today I did go to lunch because I didn't think it would rain and it did. However, good fortune was smiling upon me, because my primo parking spot in the front row was still available when I got back, and I spent minimal time in the rain getting back to the building.
Chris I usually use Meguiars stuff. I love, love their chrome polish (All Metal Polish) and used to buy it from the museum I USED to go out to. My feeling is, for my purposes pretty much anything is going to do a good job and the car will look good. But then again, take a look at some of my wrecks and -anything- will make it look better. Okay different.
Question for you smart ones. What do I do to dispose of a desktop computer? I have several that gave it up one way or another and were replaced, but I'm afraid to take it just anywhere, for fear there's some secret info of mine on there someone can extract and use in some sinister manner. I heard there was trace amounts of precious metal in a computer, which would be ashame to send to the landfill. Any ideas?
Lunch is over and like every day things are slow to get going. The lead isn't here and it shows. It will be okay.
One more and it's the weekend. There's a rumor going around we're working Saturday. I wouldn't mind that. Okay have a good day everyone.
Chris, the paint is $24.99 a can, X3, plus $15 for shipping. I have used Meguiars for years, along with Mothers. I used a ceramic wax last year on my car which looks good, but my Meguiars detail doesn't work well with it, so I bought a spray detailer from Cal car cover We'll see how that works. Mike, in my area, Goodwill takes old electronics. The one near me took one of my old desktop computers.
Mike - I don't think you can go wrong with Meguiars or Mothers, both are top notch Brands.
I got out to the garage a little earlier this morning, about 0930 and was done with the car detailing by 1230. I got her looking like a million bucks if I do say so myself!
Here's a review of the Mothers Spray Chrome Cleaner/Protectant.
- Ease of Use, 10 out of 10. Much easier and faster than the traditional thick liquid. You can either spray it on the part, or spray it on a microfiber cloth to apply. No waiting for it to dry to a haze like the traditional. Just apply and then wipe off excess with one microfiber towel and then buff with completely dry microfiber towel. It was so much easier to use on my chrome wheels with the nooks and crannies.
- Quality of finish, 10 out of 10. Looked at least as good as the traditional, maybe better. It didn't seem like it was as difficult to buff to a nice shine as the traditional. I highly recommend!
Went out and mowed and finished just as it started sprinkling. Got the mower blowed off and back in the garage just before the downpour started.
Hope everyone has had a great day and has a relaxing evening!

Dan - The ceramic coating would be nice. I have thought about it and then ask myself why? My car has never had traditional wax on it either since I've owned it. I look at it this way. The car rarely goes out more than 1 or 2 times without a deep detailing. The detailer, in my case Meguiars Gold Class, removes any micro-dirt/contaminants and provides a thin layer of protection against rain, dirt, and UV. No more than mine is out, and as often as it is cleaned with the detail spray, I do not see the need for ceramic or traditional wax. Maybe my thinking is flawed, but my clearcoat seems to be holding up just fine.
I don't know what it is about a good wax job- maybe it's psychological- cuz it was a chore??? Anyway it just seems that cars look and feel so much better after a wax job. I have heard good things about the ceramic wax so I ordered it. Mothers. Also shortly after I had Olds restored I took back to the shop where work was done and they must have gotten overspray on it. That was when I bought a claybar set up- And boy what a difference it made, so that's why I and going to clay bar and ceramic wax the car. Tomorrow may be the day.
Greg/Chris - You should both be able to obtain an addt'l 15hp - 20hp & the suspension/ride will be far more comfortable having applied that much elbow grease.

An addt'l 15hp - 20hp??? With that much elbow grease applied over the 5-yrs I've owned it, I've transformed it into a modern day supercar. She's pushing 800hp now!

Greg, on my old '71 Supreme that I had a few years ago, I had a shop respray one of the front fenders, and they left a lot of overspray, the clay bar did it's job and removed all of it. I have been using Invisible Glass for about 15 years, works really well. Too bad the guys at Safelite didn't use their own product when they replaced my windshield awhile back. Fingerprints all over. I use my polishing towels when applying it. If you really want to gain some speed with your car, we all know adding racing stripes makes them faster!

Next, will come the rear deck spoiler to keep the rear end on the ground. My last Safelite windshield replacement the tech. gave me (free) an entire can.
We got more rain last night & early morning. I love it cause we need it. Haven't done squat all day & feel absolutely no remorse. Two new circuit breakers for the Indian are to arrive today - that's been taking up a lot of my time waiting on them. Made a very late breakfast (this afternoon) - gnarly big cheese omelette + perfectly fried crispy hash browns. Roasted some beets last night. Ordered a new Lebanese cookbook.
Slower day than we had originally anticipated. The Window Company was suppossed to be installing our 2 replacement windows today, but they called late yesterday afternoon and said they were going to have to push it out to 13 June. No biggee at this point, but I don't really want to see it pushed out any further.
Took it pretty easy today because I woke up feeling like I'd taken a 1/2-step back in recovering from this cold. Hoping to feel at least half decent for the Car Shows tomorrow and Sunday. Weather is supposed to be nice, 0% chance of rain, and sunny with a high of 85° both days. It will probably feel pretty warm out there though since it has been cooler than normal out here lately. It will be a good test for my new folding chair with the awning.
Well, the NHL Stanley Cup Final pairings are set, Florida Panthers against the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams dominated their semi-final series and it should be a good match-up in the Finals. I think the Finals start this coming Wednesday.
Hope everyone has had a great day and has a relaxing evening!
Norm I saw that. I think that leaves four of the original main characters, five if you count BJ. There's Hawkeye, Radar, Klinger, Igor. There's probably a few other minor characters still around. I know Rizzo is, probably some of the nurses.
Turned out to be a nice day. Got the passenger door on the blue van open. The lock actuator went bad in the lock position and I couldn't get the door open. I was able to get the bolts out that hold it to the door and the whole thing now goes up and down, but it unlocks the door. Haven't checked on how to actually get it off the door to replace, that will come soon I'm sure.
Chris I'm sorry you are still feeling poorly. Maybe a Top Ten trophy tomorrow will help. Eat cashews.
Gonna hit the sack a little early tonight. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mike - Glad you got your van door open! 👍
Thanks for your well wishes. I'm still feeling like I'm getting a little better with each day. Format for the Show tomorrow is Top 25, All Years/Makes/Models, cars and trucks together. We'll see, the car usually does well in Shows with this kind of format. Should have some more nice pics tomorrow evening!
Finally got done with work and went to work on the '68. Bolted the radiator top cover down, checked the radiator and put a new alignment decal on it from Dr. Decal. Those decals are good, do not put soapy water on them, and some peel hard.
I took the air cleaner off to look at things and fix a problem with an OAI hose. Answered my own question about how the vacuum works on those: they both operate the same, which is vacuum until warm, and then open. When cold, the right snoot pulls off the exhaust manifold and the left snoot gets nothing. When warm, the car is all OAI. This is different from 70-72 which is OAI when you bury it only.
Left hose went back on fine. Right hose was unraveling already and just came apart. After flipping it to see if I could use the other end at the other end, I gave up and put a repro 67 hose on it from my 442 stash. They don't match, but at least it went on. Checked everything and fired it and it would not catch. Poured gas down the carb and it ran a bit. Did that a few times and eventually the fuel pump got moving and got it running. Went for a drive. My new AC relay works the way I want it to do. Came back home and then went to auto parts store for some DOT5 and some other fluids. Packed up to go to an H/O Day tomorrow. I am not Ralph Nixon, the car only got a feather duster and the bugs from tonight detailed off. More at the show tomorrow, it gives you something to do while there. Show is some 35 miles away, several H/OCA folks will convoy up from the Evil to Petersburg.
Dan, I have been checking on the schedule of Mid Michigan Motorplex. They used to have test and tune sessions every Wednesday afternoon/evening. Now not so many, Anyway a buddy and I want to go there on a test and tune night and "race" my '56 F100 against his '88 Ford Ranger. Just for ***** and giggles- photo op.. Looks like June is not good, but maybe a evening in July- Sept? I'll see. Wondered if maybe you would like to come, bring your Cutlass and get some pics of it going down strip?
Boy I slept good last night. Went to bed before 11, got up to go outside with Tiger around 1. Some time after that my neighbors' dog was barking up a storm. Must have seen a deer, or coyote maybe? She doesn't usually bark at cats. Who knows. Slept in until 830. Ah.
Hope Chris has good luck at the show today. Hope John has good luck at the show today.
The girl on the Lebanese cookbook looks like Mary Ellen on The Waltons. Hm, maybe that is why Norm got the cookbook. It has a centerfold of her.
Guess I'll run a couple errands this morning then hit the Awful house. Gonna be nice this afternoon, I could mow, work on cars, do yardwork. I should find something to do at Mom's. She is always saying how I need to work more at my house, but if I do that more than a few days, she starts dropping hints that I need to do something over there. Hm. I usually alternate, a day here, there the next, here the next, etc. but I haven't done anything there for several days. We'll see.
Have a good Saturday everyone. It's gonna be nice here.
Chris, don't be like me last weekend, wear sunscreen. I know better, but it was only going to be about 61° for the high temp, 'cept the sun don't care about that. My left ear was blistered, and scabbing through out this last week. used up a lot of neosporin. Too bad that we lost "Hot Lips Houllahan" . Harry Morgan went to my high school. Greg, I might be interested in showing up at the track, but running a low compression 350 2bbl might not be too exciting.

John - Hope you have a great time at the H/O gathering tomorrow, the weather should be nice for ya! 👍
Dan - I did wear plenty of sunscreen today and glad I did, bright sunshine all day.
Nice car show today and glad my Grandson will reap some of the benefits from the charity event. Pretty good turnout, 173 entrants. I managed to crack the Top 25. The best part of my day was when my daughter Blaire, and grandsons Gabe and Keegan came and spent about an hour with me checking out the cars. If you want to check out some pics you can see them in "The Clubhouse". Left the car all packed, and I'm ready to rock-n-roll again in the morning.
Hope everyone had a great day and has a relaxing evening.
Made it up to the show and back. Not sure I love bias tires. I think I have an exhaust whistle. Fast idle cam needs to stick around longer, it did not want to stay running when it was cool but not cold after sitting still for 5 hours in the sun. Big photo thread in this section.

Installed new 40A circuit breaker on Indian & reassembled wiring. No start/love. I'll have to remove the entire starter + solenoid. I've never performed a starter R&R on this motorcycle. It does have a big & beefy expensive starter (1.4kW) I had the dealership install ~12 yrs. ago. The original owner sold the dealership ~5 yrs. ago. The dealership is no less than 5 hrs. away. I made contact w/ the starter manufacturer a couple weeks ago. Starter has a lifetime warranty. I'll be climbing the learning curve on this one.
Five items scheduled "Out For Delivery" by USPS, today. Supposedly, they made an attempt to deliver @ 3:41pm noting could not access delivery location. Will attempt again on next delivery day - no action required. Likely my regular delivery carrier (Steven) was off today & some *** hat attempted to deliver my items to the business next door which is closed today. Feel like I've been tied to the Whipping Post.

Norm - So sorry to hear all that. If it weren't for bad luck you'd have none at all lately! Best of luck taking on the Starter R&R. Hope things turn around for you soon!
I did indeed run errands and hit the Awful house this morning. Then I stopped by my neighbor the hot rodder's house and after that attempted to remove a wheel from the Valiant. I couldn't find a T handle anywhere. Nor did any of the Valiants have a lug wrench. Sheesh. So I put my 13" wheel next to the front wheel and could tell there's no way it would clear the brake caliper. The guy I sold the car to years ago put Scarebird disc brakes on the front.
Also mowed at my house this afternoon and puttered around in the garage a little. An excellent day.
--Dan, you might be surprised how exciting it is, running a car down the strip- I don't know if you've ever done it before, but it is exciting. Even in a 18 second car such as my Olds, (350 w/2.56 gears), I'll bet your Cutlass and mine would be about the same. My Olds is still in 2nd at the end of strip- maybe 80 MPH, can't remember but it feels fast. But I won't have Olds there whatever day we go. The race between my friend and I won't be much either, his is a 4 cyl 5 speed stick- mine a 6 cyl 5 speed- I'm thinkin a close race at about 19 sec/ 70 MPH?
-- I don't remember if I told you guys about a hobby I started this winter- buying and selling mowers. I put a wanted ad for riders on Face Crack and have got some. Most are absolute junk but some are pretty good. One thing that so far is kicking my ***, governor failures. Governors are what automatically add throttle to maintain RPM when you go into tall grass or whatever- sort of like cruise control on cars when you go up a hill. I have boughten 2 riders that the governor has failed- engine starts and revs way up sounding like it is gonna blow up. Well one of them did- it is junk, but other one is still ok cuz I guess they shut it off before it went kabluey. Looks like the govenors are inside the split case of the engines- anyway it is a new learning experience. I also have done a couple push mowers but they are only worth $50-75 when ready to go. So no room for profit even if you buy one for $20. I actually got one for free and it ran but needed a recoil ($20.) and a control cable($15)- so have $35 in it sell for $50- Nah..
--Got engine compt, trunk and interior all cleaned up on Olds yesterday B4 it rained, Hopefully today I'll do outside w/ claybar and wax.
