Greg - You made out like a bandit. I had a similar occurrence. I wasn't necessarily looking for an additional double-deck tool chest w/ drawers, but happened upon a garage sale, the guy was selling a Craftsman double-decker on rollers in excellent condition. Said he'd take $75 - done deal. I've experienced the same w/ a canine or two. They have an innate sense don't they?
I am no space designer, but it is my understanding that one needs end tables or coffee tables for a couch, but not necessarily both, especially for a 2 seater as they can both use the end tables for drinks. 3 seater needs the coffee table.
John - Really appreciate your comments/suggestions, thank you! As far as interior design/furnishing I think both Dawn and I are often guilty of "over furnishing", which is at least somewhat driven by wanting to hold on to certain pieces of furniture that have sentimental value. I think we both need to be honest that sometimes "less is more".
Thanks for link, Norm- hope I don't need it. Glad Maggie is doing well Chris. Yesterday a friend and I went to a **** ton of garage sales- A fun day.
Greg - Sweet score on the tool box and tools. Classy move giving the lady more that she was asking for. Thanks for your well wishes for Maggie they are much appreciated!
Still drinking coffee. Up before the dawn. Weber kettle cleaned, baby back ribs getting to room temperature on the counter, sanded spark plug on Briggs & Stratton lawn concrete edger, checked oil, fresh petroleum, started on 1st pull, 1/3 of edging complete.
I have these unique Jealusie windows at bottom of front picture windows (x3). They were painted shut when I bought the house - typical people with no clue. Anyways of course they work flawlessly after I restored them but they need a full lube job nearly every year to keep them running smooth - that got done this morning. They provide a great breeze through entire house - love them. This guy I know buzzed my house 3-4 times in his bi-plane @ 6:00am. Lots of folks jumping from planes this morning. I can here the planes lumbering up to 10K feet, then hear them opening their shoots directly above my head.
As usual I had a great time at both grandsons' hockey games last night. My daughter hadn't told me that the team that had picked up Keegan (8-yrs) for this make-up game was a 10U (9 - 10yr olds) team. I guess Keegan was the only goalie eligible for the task. The league allows players to play up in age bracket but not down. It was his 1st time playing full ice and with a full size net, plus the team he was playing against was pretty skilled. Keegan was completely overwhelmed in the 1st Period giving up 5 goals. I felt sorry for the little guy, and he wasn't getting much support from his defensemen. However, he really seemed to adjust well to the whole situation as the game progressed, giving up only 2 goals in the final 2 Periods. I was really proud of how he hung in there!
The team Gabe was picked up by was playing their make-up game against a team coached by Gabe's Head Coach from 2-years ago (Coach Kristen) who obviously knows Gabe very well. The opposing team also had the daughter of Gabe's Head Coach from last regular season (Coach Dave) playing for them, so he was sitting in the stands right next to us. He's a great guy and Coach, and a big fan of Gabe's. He told me before the game that he and Coach Kristen had put their heads together before the game and had a plan to contain Gabe. I laughed and said, we'll have to see how that goes. Every shift Gabe was on the ice they made sure they had their best Defenseman shadowing him everywhere he went, plus they had another Defenseman hanging back in their Denfensive Zone so they could double team him when he came into their end. So you know what they say about best laid plans, it slowed Gabe down a smidgen, maybe, as he still had a hat-trick and 2 assists in a 5 -1 win. Talking with Coach Dave in the lobby after the game, I said to him that it would be nice if Gabe could play for him again next year. He said I'd sure love to have him, but I'm sure he's going to be drafted up at least one if not two skill levels in the Fall. I hope that's the case!
I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to go to the cruise-in tonight. Any rain is pretty much out of the forecast, but it's been a long week and I feel tired. Just staying home with Momma and watching the boob-tube sounds pretty good.
Hope everyone is having a great day and has a great rest of your long weekend!
Thanks for link, Norm- hope I don't need it. Glad Maggie is doing well Chris. Yesterday a friend and I went to a **** ton of garage sales- A fun day. I bought a really nice Mac tool box with sliding drawers, etc. A gal had a sale after her hubby passed away- sad... I asked what she wanted for box- i expected answer to be higher than I would give- but she said $80.00, I said I'm gonna give you $100.00. It was worth more, That dog clung to me like I was his master- Very affectionate and loving- I wonder if I reminded him of his dead master?? I've never had that happen with a strange dog before.
Greg good on you for paying up on something you knew was worth it. Many do not share your integrity, leading by example and good karma, dogs sense more than we give them credit....
The dog reminds me of this little ditty
Jim - It's a unique design. Each window (there are three) is a single pane of glass ~2'W x 1'H. Each is contained in a boxed-in housing & each contains a screen. You know, I might be using the incorrect term. I've had Jealusie windows in other homes & I know the kind you're thinking of with a stack of window panes opened & closed w/ a single handle. I might be wrong, I'm called them Jealusie windows based on how the open & close. I'll get a couple pictures of them maybe they're called by another name.
Jim Bob - Check 'em out. What would you call them? The handle slides into & out of a turn-style crank (lever) which opens/closes each window w/ the handle. The windows (not the glass panes) were completely painted closed when I bought the house. Thoughts?
This is the style we'd normally think of (louvered) when calling something a Jalousie window or Jalousie blinds; and, the style I'm most familiar with. So, I'm not sure what exactly to call them. They're damn skippy unique and work great. Guy who built this place (1930) was supposedly a master boat builder. Maybe if Ray sees them he'll comment. Maybe what I have is nothing more than windows w/ a crank. I like 'em though.
They were used a lot as basement windows to keep the basement aired out in the summer to rid the humidity.
Maybe so. There's a modest difference between casement windows & awning windows I believe. Many of the homes in the Great White North where I grew up had basement casement windows...my parents basement had casement windows.

Dawn talked me into going to the cruise-in bringing up all my bitching about the rain and not being able to get the car out. It was beautiful, sunny and 70°, and she was right so I packed the car up and headed out about 3pm. Pretty much from the time I got there around 3:20 I started to feel funny, and by the time I left and got home around 7pm I really felt like crap. Achy, drainage, and maybe a slight temp. I'm pretty sure I've got some kind of Summer bug, and I'd bet I got it at the hockey rink last night. I NEVER get ill, I can't even remember the last time I even had the hint of a cold.
Looks like there's been alot of discussions since I left out of here this afternoon. I'll try to get caught up tomorrow. I did see Norm's pile of Rib bones and was very envious!
You guys have a great evening!

Busy day for me. Three loads of laundry, and shredded all those branches and vines I dug out the other day. I can say that putting vines in the shredder isn't a great idea. More than once they got wrapped around the blade and I had to take the thing apart and de-vine it. Got a lot shredded though. Also went to my airport this morning and Awful house for lunch.
Chris glad you got the car out even though you ended up feeling poorly. Hope you can shake it quick. Drink heavily. Don't you have a grandson named Ollie?
Norm I learned something too. Why do windows like that even need a name? I would think awning windows would be at the top, but then they'd be transoms. With all the restoration you've put into your house it almost surprises me that you bricked up all the chimneys and that they don't work as designed.
Greg that's an awesome score and you're a good egg for taking care of the woman. Maybe the dog would have gone home with you. Did he put up a fuss when you went to leave?
Plans are on hold for tomorrow, no one can seem to guess if it's going to rain or not. So after Walmart I may run a couple errands. I need to get flooring for the living room at Mom's and start that task. I was going to do the floor when she was in Florida in August, but now she's not going so I'll just start whenever. I'm going to take the wood stove out, which will mean patching the roof, and the ceiling, and replacing a section of baseboard. That stove is heavy as a mother.
Okay gonna hit the sack in a minute. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
