Posted a photo link of Homecoming pics in general discussion. A lot of the older cars weren't there that have been there in the past, a few '57-58 Fiesta's, cars from the 30's were non-existent, except for one. I imagine some people are aging out. there is usually a contingent from Ontario, Canada, but not so much this year. A few guys on the FB forums said that they wouldn't bring their car due to rain, which hit Lansing Friday night, and I-94 and south on Saturday. They still planned on coming with their daily drivers. Weather was nice, low 70's and low humidity. I haven't heard a tally on the number of cars yet.

Thanks Mike! You're spot on about Dawn, she's still got "it"! Maggie is still out of sorts. Her paw seems better but yesterday she threw up several times and has been suffering diarrhea. She has kept her food down today, but the diarrhea hasn't gone away. Dawn is taking her to the Vet again tomorrow is it's not gone by then. Thanks for asking about her!

Chris, Sorry about Maggie, Hopefully she'll be well soon. If it were me I'd get some drapes up soon. Your neighbors are gonna be eyeing your beautiful bride thru the new windows

Got back yesterday from "camping" with the Tin Can Tourists in Cadillac at Mitchell State Park. It was very close, for sure in the little trailer. Saturday was very busy as we went to a memorial for a best buddies brother at Higgins Lake and then the open house for our granddaughter in Williamston, then back to Cadillac- so mostly on the road all day. Leaving Thursday this week with our Acadia to go to Minnesota for the "Back to the Fifties" car show and the start of the "Great Race" there. Ironically our oldest granddaughter is leaving that area, and our oldest grandson is coming to that area about the same time we will be in there. So I think we will take stuff over for one and stuff back for the other in our car, hoping we can all get together for a nice meal on Gramps. I was gonna take Olds but the show is for '65 and older so wouldn't even be able to take car into event- so daily driver it is...

Jim - Thanks for the well wishes for Maggie, they are much appreciated. Blinds and drapes back up on the windows.

Hope you're hanging in there, and things get better. You're in our prayers.

Good morning everyone.

Up way before the chickens. Overtime all this week, though I'm not coming in early tomorrow. Not a bad morning so far, despite my wall guy screwing off for the first two hours.

Nice pictures Dan. I think my favorite is the blue/white 57. Close second is the green/white 56.

Lots o'traveling Greg. Be safe and enjoy. The Tin Can Tourists sounds like a fun group but I don't have the time to go off with them at all. I have a 49 Spartan Mansion, that needs everything. The interior looks like an atomic bomb went off inside. I figure I could take it camping, it tows real nice, and then set up a tent inside the trailer. If I wasn't afraid the coyotes would get me I'd camp in my yard.

Gotta go get my license plates after work. They are due Saturday. I figure it will cost me about 400 bucks. Then it will take me days to put them all on. I take the plates off the cars and clean them real nice then put on the stickers with laser precision. When I get a new plate at the tag office and the girl puts the sticker on crooked my head explodes.

Think I'll take a walk then sign some more wheels. Hope the week starts out good for everyone.

Mike - Glad you're off to a decent start to your work week. Good luck at the DMV. I always dread going to the DMV here, it always seems to be a crap shoot on whether you'll have all your ducks in a row and get out of there with what you went for. I'm thankful though that most of what I would call standard renewals can be done online now with much less pain and hassle. Have a good week!

Good morning guys,

What's new here, well this rain we're getting right now sure isn't anything new! It isn't supposed to move out until around 4pm. At least it's not storming, no high winds or lightning. Weatherman is forecasting a different story for Wednesday with a high chance of heavier storms. It's looking like our first real Summer heat may be getting here this coming weekend with highs of 95° forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

Not too much else going on here. Dawn's playing it by ear right now on whether to take Maggie to the Vet for her gastro issues. My daughter Blaire is taking us to my favorite Pizza place on Wednesday for a belated Father's Day get together which will be nice. Now it's time for some real pain, I'm gonna pull out my laptop and pay a bunch of bills and online accounting, YUK!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning everyone.

Just wasn't feeling it this morning so I didn't do overtime. I'll stay the extra hour this afternoon. My wall guy must not be feeling it either because he's about as slow as molasses.

Went to Summit cruise in last night. One Oldsmobile. A hoopty Delta 88 with big crazy wheels that didn't turn when the car moved. Little rubber band tires. Clean, but not my style. I don't think there were 50 cars there. Weird. It wasn't that hot and no rain on either side of the evening.

So I go to get my tags yesterday and it completely slipped my mind that I had to have smog tests on the Charger and the SRX. All the others cost me 340 bucks. I left and went to the testing station and of course the Charger did fine. Today after work I'm going to dig the SRX out and clear the codes and put some fresh gas in it and hurry to the testing station before the codes can come back. It's been sitting in the garage for months. I don't know what to do with that guy. I'm money ahead getting it fixed, regardless of what it costs(Cadillac wanted 3K!) But I'm just over it. Nothing at the dealerships strikes my fancy, and, it all has to be done by Saturday. I'm not very bright sometimes.

Pizza today at work. I asked what fer and he said, because you're all special. I said, if everyone is special then no one is special. But heck pizza so who cares why.

Okay got a couple to sign. Hope everyone has a good day. The pressure is off, Monday is over.

Mike - Kinda weird the attendance was so down at Summit if it wasn't that hot??? Nice they're bringing in pizza for you guys! The fricking DMV, the gift that keeps on giving. Good luck with the emissions on the SRX! 🤞

Hope you have a great rest of your day!

Good morning guys (barely here),

Well I'm on dog duty today. Dawn is off to her daughter's house that has been vacant since her daughter moved in with her boyfriend. They are getting ready to put the place up for sale and Dawn offered to do some interior painting for them before they put it up for sale. That's Dawn, always taking care of others! Good news is it's looking good that Maggie's diarrhea problem is finally under control and she's not wanting out every 1/2-hour to go. Next step is seeing she has a normal movement within a reasonable amount of time.

Went out to the garage and detailed on the car for a couple hours before I got too warm. Cleaned and treated the vinyl roof, and used the detail spray on all the upper horizontal surfaces. Planning on doing some every morning, and having it all done by Friday for a big Show this coming Sunday. I'm going to have to think hard about going to the Show though, rain is not the threat now, but forecast for this Sunday is a high of 97°!

Maybe a new Stanley Cup Champion later tonight. Florida can claim the title tonight with a win at home. If they lose it goes back to Edmonton for a final game 7. I'm looking forward to the game, hoping Florida wins it in front of their fans!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Chris you need an air conditioner to attach to your hooded chair. You could make a mini swamp cooler.

Things are ending up well. We blew past our target number and will settle on 165. I've even got a couple to jump start the morning. I plan on being here for the extra hour in the morning.

I'm gonna work on the SRX after work. Heck while it's out of the garage I should run the garden hose over it for awhile. That way I can see if I fixed the sunroof.

Okay here's a question. What would it hurt if I cut off some of the inner structure of the passenger door on the blue van? I need to replace the door lock actuator, and the little bitty holes in the door behind the door panel are not really big enough to get my hand in, much less see what I'm doing. Why can't I enlarge the hole some? I need to fix the power window motor as well, hell, I should just get a new door.

Jim, good to see that you got out and enjoyed a lake cruise. Chris, we have rain coming tomorrow, but the severe weather will be not so much in these parts. Hitting the 90's early next week, at least inland, away from Lake Michigan. Greg, I saw the Great Race 5-6 years ago when it finished at the Gilmore car museum. A lot of nice cars, and I am impressed by the people who drive some of the open air vintage cars in that long of a venue. Mike, I liked that '57 as well, a nice color combo.

Dan - We've got more on the way tomorrow too, possible severe thunderstorms in the afternoon. After that we've got a stretch of 7 or 8-days without rain in the forecast, that will be a welcome change. The downside is that all of those days are going to be +92°. Oh well, that's Summer in StL, and I have to have something to bitch about!

So, the door inner does a few things. Primarily, it provides stiffness to the door so it won't flex (it basically makes it a truss), and it provides attachment points and support for the devices in the door and on the door, like the handles, the speaker, window regulator if it had one that went up and down and so on. Ideally, from an engineering view, it would be one solid piece of sheet metal with threaded holes for things. But, it's not; for two reasons. First one is weight and cost savings, they cut holes in it to make it lighter and use less material. Second one is assembly, the thing got built, somehow.

However, they probably didn't go to the limit with the weight savings and you probably can cut a hole for your hand and sight. I would not cut near any attachment points, nor would I cut through any contoured edges, by which I mean a piece of metal that the edge is stamped into a rib for stiffness. I might not even cut on any edges, like any hole I put in would not touch an edge, just be in the middle, but it might be ok to trim an edge that is just a flat edge (not ribbed.) Ideally, there should be shot holes for a socket for each bolt of something inside.

Good morning everyone.

Lots of people at 4 this morning, we're just a flurry of activity. Hope it keeps up. Several new people have come into the shop. So far they are all good guys. Come in for overtime, want to learn, decent guys to talk to.

Thanks John that's exactly what I'm looking for. I've also got an old Lincoln that has a bad power window motor. The inner door is almost a solid sheet of metal. That whole car is a disaster and has set in my garage for 19 years. And it sat at my house before that for several. I don't even remember. It would be long gone but there's a big truck in front of the garage that doesn't move. Hm. I see a pattern... My thought is that the door is assembled first and the last thing to go on is the skin.

So I got the SRX out of the garage. It's been sitting since September so not a stretch that the battery was dead. Charged it a little while and it started right up. The engine light was on, like it was when I parked it, and when I got out of the garage the light started flashing and it went out. Put some gas in it and took it to the emission place. Failed. He said, you have to drive for 100 miles after the battery goes dead to reset everything. So I brought it to work this morning, hope it starts this afternoon. It should, it sat all night and I drove a half hour on the expressway.

Time for the official start of the morning. Hope everyone has a good day.

Jim, glad you are getting out again and enjoying life. Mike I'm really glad we in Michigan don't have any emissions or safety inspections. Though I know some of the cars driven around here are unsafe, I'm sure....

Mike - I had meant to comment on your 165 wheel effort yesterday and forgot. That sounded like a very high number so I was wondering what your highest single day number has been?

Good luck again today with the SRX! 🤞

I think the highest we've done since I've been in the shop was 170. We could have easily done more than 165 yesterday but the lead has this odd idea that if we show we are capable of something then the higher up's will expect it always. The retriever was broke for about an hour this morning, so we'll see how that affects the final number.

Thanks Mike, I had a hunch 165 had to be right up there near the top. Hope you have a great day!

IMO, Oilers did a poor job managing their lines/benches. They saw their lines/benches weren't working. They should have made adjustments.

I agree with that too. What did they have to lose, the Lines they were putting out there weren't effective.

Tough call on that one. I can definitely see several reasons why Skinner wasn't sharp in last night's situation. First in his head after being pulled in his last outing, and then benched last game. Then the fact it had been 6-days since he had last played. You're probably right on that analysis too!

I don’t have time to evaluate but when I’ve watched replays of Skinner, I saw the majority of goals he missed were chest high. He, IMO, should “drop” to his knees instead of guarding the blue “on” his knees. Oh well. I think Pickard is more agile.

I meant to say chest high or higher.
