The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Greg - I'm glad you had a safe and enjoyable trip, and hope your grandkids are doing well! That's alot of driving for such a short trip. I was wondering what route you took over there and back? I was thinking maybe you might take a vehicle ferry across Lake Michigan to cut off a bunch of the mileage/driving time? I have no idea how much it costs to do that these days? My family did it once when I was young to go over to Green Bay. It sure was hot though wasn't it! At the Car Show Sunday I waited until registration was over (noon) to make one pass thru all the cars to take my pictures. Normally I would spend at least a couple hours checking out all the cars, but it was just too damn hot on the pavement, so I just rushed thru and got pics of all the cars that caught my eye, and then got back to my shade.
"Back to the Fifties/ The Great Race" was a great time. The Minnesota state fairgrounds was a great place for them. It is a huge fairgrounds with many permanent buildings- almost like a small town on it's own, with streets, etc. Boy it was hot! I found that I don't have the stamina to do things as I used to, especially with the heat. Some of the things I would have walked to see I decided just weren't worth getting out of my lawn chair in the shade for.... I'm glad we didn't take the Olds since it is a '71- too new to be able to be in the event. We took our Acadia and it did great. We went on Friday in the middle afternoon and looked at cars going on the great race and others for 2-3 hours. Stayed at a "microtel" ( small but not bad). Went back on Saturday ( now it was hot!!) about 0930. set up a chair and a small folding wagon in shade by the starting line of the "Race". Walked some and looked at more cars- there were LOTS of cars- I was told attendance was down but last year had 9000 cars., anyway there were LOTS!! At about noon the Great race started. They leave at one minute intervals. Some of the cars were real spectacles! Sort of like chitty chitty bang bang oddities!! About 100 cars I think.. Left the event and went back to room to cool off, grab shower, and go to a cool bar/restaurant to meet with 2 grandkids for dinner. Then back to room. Sunday morn I left Linda in room and met my buddy back at the event for the Sunday morning only swap meet.. Oh yeah it was hot on the asphalt lot! BUT got some goodies, bought some trim rings and a front bumper for the Olds. Price was too cheap on the bumper- I don't need it but couldn't pass. We left our room at 1000 and got back to our house 11 hours later. A long trip for sure, with lots of 2 lane roads thru Northern WI and U P.
Street Machine Nationals coming in July will have about 7,000 cars. Fewer "original/restored" cars, but any year car. A large variety of "performance" cars and customs. And for those that have never seen any, blocks and blocks of Camaro's, Chevelle's and Nova's.
Cool; half track Seeing the bags ]accessories] hanging I'm reminded of the movie mistake [ like saving private Ryan] of using the 1945 back pack doing D day scenes

The seven blade fan was used in h.d. applications, My W31 has one. I went with the six blade after consulting with Scott W. , as I thought I need a five bladed clutch fan. My car did not come with a clutch fan, as it is a non a/c, H.D. car, but I wanted it in case I go through with adding a/c, plus the previous owner added a shroud and a three core radiator. Jim, if I am at my buddies house, and a WW2 movie comes on, and his son is present (Masters in History, and WW2 buff), he will pick apart any discrepancies, from uniforms to weapons, to tanks and artillery. Quite the history lesson.

Check it out when you have an hour. Pretty neat
Good morning everyone
Wow an extra hour to sleep. Tiger wanted to go out before 12 so I got a stretch of over 3 hours to sleep uninterrupted. No wonder I feel so wide awake. Yesterday the lead said overtime would be two hours after the regular shift, but it seems that's only for our section, as the rest of the shop came in at 4 for overtime. So I'm going home at 130 and telling him when things are done fairly around here I'll consider more overtime. Though tomorrow it's back to regular overtime and we're working Saturday so I feel as though my rant will be short lived.
Jamesbo I'm the same way watching airplane movies. My favorite is when the flight attendant is flying the 747 with a gaping hole in the cockpit and there's barely a breeze coming through. Then she pulls down a huge panel of circuit breakers and the radios go in and out. Or when the plane sinks into the ocean and the APU is still running and the lights are on. Well, I suppose it could be running on battery power. But not all night.
Mowed for a very short while yesterday. The temp was over 90 and I got the important part done, the rest can wait. Maybe this weekend I'll mow in the evening. This afternoon I don't know what to do. I am going to stop on the way home and get some oil for the SRX. I should get a belt for my one mower so I can take it over to Mom's. The little electric mower(I think it's an 18 inch cut) is not adequate for that yard.
Slow to get going. I think I'll take a walk. Hope everyone has a good day.

Chris, we have taken the Badger across Lake Michigan a few years ago- really expensive but worth it for your bucket list. But this trip was too far north. Also there is a high speed catamaran type ferry out of Muskegon I've never been on. Our route was US2 across U P then mostly straight west to Eagle River, then south and west to St Paul/Minn. Then on way back we went thru the small towns on 2 lane state highways. Can't remember the names of them. It was beautiful!
-- Drove Olds yesterday and high speed fan quit on the a/c. Gonna have to check that out.

Mike - I hope things get squared away at work with the O/T rules/situation. It never works out well when some groups get to play by different rules than other groups.
Greg - Understand why you didn't consider taking the ferry because of the location of the event. Only been up thru part of the UP one time as a teenager on a hunting trip. It was pretty, but it was a miserable trip, I'm pretty sure I told the story before, if not let me know and I'll send you a PM, I don't want to bore everyone else.

Good morning guys,
My grandsons Gabe and Keegan are out of Summer School now until they start back up with regular school in August. I have volunteered to watch them at least 3-days a week at their home so they don't have to go to a day care situation. At home they have access to all their stuff and their Grandma's (my Ex) pool just 3-doors down. I have permission to take them swimming down there anytime I want. So, that's where I'm at today thru Friday. Glad to get to spend some one on one time with them.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning everyone.
Wow bad storm blew through last night around 1. Mom said there was hail involved but I didn't see any. Lots of lightning and thunder. Tiger seemed uneasy and stood up on the bed, and I said come on up. So he jumped up with me and was fine. Power went out around 1. I had an LED flashlight that I turned on and pointed up, so I had minimal light to take a shower. Mom was up when I got over there, she didn't lose power. Got a text from the power company around 6 saying my power was back on. I had initially gotten a text and they said it would be back on at 330. Hm.
Glenn that's a beautiful 65 Olds. But I'm totally digging the Buick next to it.
Our shop is changing to a 10 hour shift. I don't see a lot coming out of it but it will be nice to have 3 days off every week. I'll have Monday off and work Tuesday through Friday. How 'bout that. Things have really been humping today I'm already well over 20 and it isn't even break yet.
So this afternoon I get to inspect both (all three?) properties for storm/hail damage, as well as the cars. It was quite comfortable this morning but the temp is going to go right back up into the 90s. I'm just not equipped for the heat like I used to be.
Okay have a great day everyone.

I think you'll really like that schedule. 20% fewer days at work, 20% less driving. I was on a similar schedule for probably 15-years, except mine used primarily 9-hour days and one 8-hour day. For a 2-week, 80-hour pay period: Week 1 M - Th 9-hr days, 1st Friday 8-hr day; Week 2 M - Th 9-hrs, 2nd Friday off. So I only got a 3-day weekend every other weekend. We (employees) advocated for a 10-hr day like you're going to have, but Senior Leadership would not buy in, citing numerous studies showing decreasing productivity for shifts > 9hrs. I hope it works out well for you. Give us an update after you've been on it awhile.

Norm that's a 58, I'm not up on my Buicks so I don't know what model. Maybe I can find it.
So Jamesbo you melt the ice cream to make the french toast and then put ice cream on top of it? I had a girlfriend once who tried to make french toast, she kept getting her tongue stuck in the toaster.
I was on a 10 hour shift years ago. I really liked it. I -really- liked the 12 hour shift I was on. You were home more than you were at work. I like not being here. We did 12s for years until Bruce decided he wanted to be on 8s. He told the foreman he should get extra money/time/whatever because he had to work more. The foreman told him he could have bid the 12 hour line. So Bruce went to HR. They said no one gets it and we all went back to 8s. How Bruce never got beat up is beyond me.
Really I'd work two 20s.

Okay Buick had three convertibles for 1958; Limited, Roadmaster, Special. Not knowing Buicks I can't tell which one is in the picture. Although, if someone had the ability to enlarge the picture more than this site will allow, the name is in the chrome on the quarter panel. I can't make it out.
I do see that it has the Autronic Eye. And curb feelers!

French Toast - Vanilla Ice Cream Recipe I use:
Ingredients
1 cup vanilla ice cream melted
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 pieces Texas Toast or your favorite bread
Optional Toppings:
1) Preheat a griddle.
2) In a shallow baking dish or pie plate, combine the melted ice cream, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon. Whisk until blended. Dip both sides of each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing the bread to soak up some of the mixture.
3) Spray the hot griddle with non-stick cooking spray, cook the bread in batches until golden and crisp, 3 to 4 minutes per side.
4) Serve hot with desired toppings.

Mike - FYI, you can "zoom" (enlarge) using any Browser. Click on the image to open the image, then depending on your Browser click (upper right-hand corner) the three ellipses (lines), choose "Zoom".
I see the name on the quarter panel but can only see "Buick".

Hey guys,
Not watching the grandsons today as anticipated because my daughter decided she would take off today because she was going to have to take part of the day off anyway to get them to an orthodontist appointment. I'm still on tap to watch them tomorrow.
Going to use the opportunity to get out and mow/trim here in just a second before it gets any hotter as it's headed to +95° again later this afternoon. Won't be able to mow tomorrow, and possibility of rain Saturday and Sunday. If the rain chance diminishes for the weekend I want to be free to hit car events.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Finished mowing and back into the A/C, whew! Glad I got that done and out of the way. It's 89° right now at 11am and I'm pretty sure it's at least going to hit the predicted 95° mark by 3 or 4 this afternoon.
I "may" perform "some" work today. Still evaluating my options - mostly eliminating them. Two days in a row of golf (even in a cart) @111°F H.I. is just too much. I'll play tomorrow morning, instead of today. I'm having a difficult time removing Vanilla Ice Cream French Toast from my mind; therefore, this may become a reality.
Mike - Those gals who French kiss the toaster are sump'n, eh?

with a R and letter no 4 D. Have no more pic and if i had the cars licensenumber it should be easy to find out.
I have the license number of the Olds -65 so i maybe call him , he also had a -68 Oldsmobile.
I can post some pics from this place last year in a new thread.
Vanilla Ice Cream French Toast + sausage was like breakfast, lunch, dinner & dessert rolled into one.
Pulled into golf club parking lot on Tuesday and rear passenger window would not go up - went down fine. Researched a couple of my fav 2003 F250 electrical gurus on YouTube. Tried the extra force maneuver on the driver side switch then the rapid punching (w/ finger) on the switch. The rapid punching freed up "something" (likely inside that switch). Window now moves UP/DOWN. I think I replaced that entire bank of driver side window switches a couple yrs. ago - maybe not. At any rate, think I'll venture into the blast furnace man-cave, remove the switch & socket and see if any wires are suspect or if I can get away w/ several good dowses of contact cleaner which may resolve the issue. Good to know it (apparently) isn't the window motor.
