Mike/Kenneth - I don't get wait 5 seconds between searches messages. In fact, I don't get any of the what used to be time-outs of any type. I'm using Firefox (Mozilla) Browser version 130.0.1 (64-bit).
Chris - Neither the F-250 diesel tractor nor the Indian Motorcycle require a timing or setting dwell. I'm at least a week out from even thinking about listing either one on CL.
Norm that's my timing light! I bought mine when I was in high school. Used it a handful of times. I haven't seen it in years though I know where it is. That's okay about the Tshirts.
Chris I was in no way suggesting you not do your exercises. Just offering up my experience. I'm glad you have a PT that is good and will do you good. My self-inflicted physical therapy was pushing myself to get back to normal as quickly as possible.
I wondered if the search message was because of the computer I was using, but I got home and logged in and got the same message. It isn't burdensome to wait 5 additional seconds but it is strange.
Well it's after 4 and only a few people are here and there's no work being done. I should probably stop saying that, I'm sure all my negativity about my job makes it sound like I'm a doof and the whole place is full of doofs. Okay so the rest of the day I will only say positive things about my work. You may not here from me very much...
Have a great day everyone. No OT for me this weekend so it really is Friday!
Okay first positive thing about work. It's payday! And every payday the department across the hall makes popcorn. They have this big machine like what you'd have at a theater(maybe home theater size) and they sell it for 50c. Quart size cups, not too bad.
Mike - Curious. So, you guys go through this "5S" process. I assume it applies to other departments? How is it then a shop has a big popcorn machine selling popcorn? Popcorn machine have to meet 5S standards?
I'm thinking I'm going to hear a fair number of aircraft, maybe some skydivers today, preparing for this Skydiving World Championship this weekend. Spot-on gorgeous weather for flying/skydiving this weekend - slight>mild breeze (6mph-8mph) clear to slightly overcast skies, 78°F - 82°F.
Norm the 5S thing is for the whole company. Some departments take it more to heart than others. I don't know why a popcorn machine wouldn't fit in with 5S, or what you'd have to do to it(like throw something away) to get it to conform.
When I signed in just now I waited like 15 seconds before I clicked on the New Posts button. Didn't get the message.
Okay something positive about work while I'm here. Hm let's see. Um, it's break time.
Chris I was in no way suggesting you not do your exercises. Just offering up my experience. I'm glad you have a PT that is good and will do you good. My self-inflicted physical therapy was pushing myself to get back to normal as quickly as possible.
Mike - I didn't think you were suggesting that I not do my PT. Like you just mentioned, I thought you were just offering up how your experience went. I'm glad your situation turned out well!
I think I'm done sending the mystery guy pictures of Indian Motorcycle stuff - apparel, glassware, t-shirts, helmet, riding gloves, riding jacket, riding vest, bandanas, yadda, yadda, yadda. The real Indian Motorcycle has been very sluggish turning over. I haven't been riding in some time. It was modestly sluggish to start beginning earlier this summer & late last fall. I installed a brand new battery x2 yrs ago but my primary suspicion is the ground cable (which I also replaced ~x7 yrs ago). This beast requires significant current flow out of a tiny 12V battery. Any attenuation of current flow makes it barf. I have it on the lift. I'll remove the seat, cowlings, bags, etc. and check the primary battery>starter ground cable & ancillary grounds.
45° V-Twin 4-Stroke
105 cid = 1720 cc
9:1 Compression
180 psi - 185 psi/cylinder
3.966" x 4.25" Bore x Stroke
4 Valves/Cylinder, Hydraulic Lifters, Non-Adjustable Push Rods
I hear a lumbering Cessna 182 ascending to altitude. Probably has 3 or 4 jumpers onboard. The local club uses a 182.
Norm - Speaking of skydiving, I read up on that Red Bull Stratos Project jump. That was nuts! You may already know this, but at least the altitude portion of that Record was eclipsed only 2-years (I think) later by an American whose name I can't remember offhand.
Norm if 4 people jumped out of a 182 there wouldn't be anyone left to fly the plane. Unless there were children. Is there a minimum age for skydiving?
We're farther ahead than I thought. Looks like we'll hit our extended number today. I didn't think we would, things started out pretty slow. Oh wait, that doesn't sound positive enough. I've got an "associate" wall guy and he's awesome.
Gotta take Mom to the foot doctor after work. This is the only place that has late appointments. Of course we get there at 4 and she doesn't go back until after 5. Maddening. Eh, it's good for Awful house afterward.
Mike - I flew (certified) in 150, 152, 172 & 192 aircraft. Never flew a 182. I think it's configured w/ a max. capacity of four seats but has the capacity to carry most likely an additional single person - payload likely ~1,000 lbs - 1,100 lbs. Some of these aircraft are modified to accommodate an additional seat (special purpose built). Hell, I'm talking out my ****. Normally, these type are configured w/ max. seating but have capacity for luggage, etc.
Ever since I exited the hospital, I've been on a wait a see situation with my kidneys Legionaries disease really put a hurting on them and I've been trying to avoid dialysis For 4 months I've been on a no [low] sodium and a nasty vegan diet . Unfortunately it didn't work and my numbers keep dropping so next week I'm scheduled to go in for a pre port meeting. The installation of the port takes some time to heel before it can be used I would still like to try to avoid this but its looking inevitable Oddly enough I feel fine only seem to tire easily
Ever since I exited the hospital, I've been on a wait a see situation with my kidneys Legionaries disease really put a hurting on them
Jim - I'm so sorry to hear about the damage to your kidneys and your challenge of trying to stay off of dialysis, I had no idea? You will certainly be in our thoughts and prayers!
Jim - Nothing easy about growing long in the tooth, eh? Assuming they've scheduled a pre-port meeting to determine/discuss type of port: fistula, catheter or graft & type of dialysis - home peritoneal dialysis vs. home hemodialysis or In-center hemodialysis. Tough decisions. Your eGFR above, equal to or below 15 mL/min? Respect buddy.
Didn't take long finding the lumpy biscuit on the Indian Motorcycle hard start issue. Check this $hit out. I've never experienced anything like this on a car, truck or motorcycle I can recall - "maybe" some other piece of machinery over the past 55 yrs - "maybe". At any rate, negative battery cable was loose as were the several other ground cables attached to the battery. Of course the 1/0 largest cable ([-] ground battery-to-starter) was loose, as well. Not sure if it was initially faulty battery or cables came loose resulting in a faulting battery or what? Going to remove the several of the ground cables, clean them up &/or replace them. Battery is not that old but $hit happens & I don't have the patience or time to deal w/ the manufacturer, battery age, faulty, warranty, etc. I did some research on this battery before purchasing it. I doubt it's the starter itself. I put on a HD starter ~6 yrs after I purchased the motorcycle because these beasts require significant current flow & the OEM starters were a known issue. Oh well....proceeds from the mystery buyer will buy me a new battery.
Jamesbo are you going to have to do that forever or just until your kidneys get stronger? I don't blame you for wanting to go to the place, I wouldn't want all that stuff in the house either.
Norm that is crazy, all melted like that. Never seen that myself. But if all that mess was loose then there was copious amounts of arcing going on.
We finished up at 2 with 173 wheels. We actually left at 215. Mom's foot appointment is actually in November, so I went out and mowed some more. I'd have rather worked on my car, but I'll do that tomorrow.
Norm, that's even worse than letting the smoke out of an electrical device.
If that block is lead, its melting point is around 620ºF.
Kenneth - You bring up a great point I hadn't considered w/ much attention. Good point. I'm curious if this resulted during riding (starter not engaged but loose wiring) or possible the loose wiring as part &/or parcel to the trickle charger attached to the battery? Maybe a spike through the man-cave electrical system of some type, perhaps? You know, on several occasions during any given year a house might get several really, really, really fast & rapid ON/OFF cycles (milliseconds) as a power/utility company resets a breaker bar, etc. Hell, I'm guessing at this point and you know it. Yes, pretty sure that's a lead block. It's like a battery thermal runaway, eh?
Norm that is crazy, all melted like that. Never seen that myself. But if all that mess was loose then there was copious amounts of arcing going on.
Mike - I thought same - significant arcing between battery anode post and the several ground cables. Firecracker hot is what I thought. Like significant firecracker hot as Kenneth pointed out.
I think Mike's correct - the Pb battery anode meltdown resulted from arcing & produced this significant amount of heat.
The anode battery post hold down bolt became loose most likely from riding yet possible the bolt &/or embedded nut in the anode post are faulty. Additionally, this may have resulted from my failure to double-check bolt tightness at some point.
During periods of riding the battery is continually being charged & the trickle charger is always on when not riding. Both the loose bolt and wires were arcing while riding & while on trickle (finishing) charger.
I'm going to experiment & test this battery - the melted Pb is on the surface - the Pb anode melted. I think I can remove that melted Pb w/o any ill effects. Insert the bolt, fully charge the battery via my 2A - 6A battery charger overnight & see if I can get >13V. Disconnect the charger & monitor free-standing battery voltage over several days. If no loss of voltage I'll call the battery good. Check continuity of my ground cables R&R any which are bad, reinstall same battery, attach wire cables & monitor stand-alone voltage on the motorcycle over several days.
I could have avoided this issue most likely had I safety wired that ground anode bolt. It doesn't have a through-hole in the bolt head for safety wire but I can drill a through hole. I'll find an attachment point where I can safety wire from the bolt to an attachment point.
Jim - Be positive & hang tight. The very last thing you want to hear from me is a description of Immunology 101 - MHC (Major Histocompatibility Complex). Have a great day.
Organizing/Cleaning an area of the man-cave to display Indian motorcycle apparel, etc. for mystery man arrival @ 10:00am. I'm not keen on inviting folks I don't know into my home.
Jim, sorry to hear what you now have to go through. We'll be pulling for you. Norm, never seen that before, be careful with your battery experiments, hate to think that the battery is damaged internally, and might be a mishap waiting to happen. I would just replace it, and make sure that every connection is snug. Light headed today, i was getting a nasty head cold when I got the covid booster, which slows me down for a day or so The two combined are dragging me down a bit.
Beautiful day here, and I saw all of it. Slept in, which was wonderful, then a friend of mine came to look over some of the parts I went to retrieve in my trailer those weeks ago. He said he wanted a couple things that weren't available right then, and gave me some advice about some of the other stuff. Nice to hang out with him. After that I went to Awful house and then to my neighbor the hot rodder's for his dad's 90th birthday party. LOTS of people. Didn't get squat done and I had planned on a bunch. Eh, I may get another day to myself a few months from now.
Norm I'd be careful using that smoke. It's Lucas and might not be compatible with Indian. Do you know why the English drink warm beer? Because Lucas also makes refrigerators.
Jamesbo let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
Walmart tomorrow. I'll try my best to get something done but I'm not counting on it.
Mike - I heard that British joke in my youth working on British cars which were mostly all wired by Lucas. A fitting joke and why I love the parody of the replacement wiring harness smoke w/ a Lucas label.
Hi Guys - I was at a judged Show all day at a large plaza on a stretch of Historic Rt. 66 southwest of St. Louis. 312 judged entries, and I made the Top 66, all makes/models/years. You can see the pics here! https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...5/#post1596362
