Greg - Lawn mower governors. I may have replaced a dozen on various mowers in the 60s/70s. Lawn mowers do not like tall grass. You can really hear them kick-in when they're struggling. My experiences was the sound - if they don't rev up when encountering tall grass, they shut down & nothing can be done other than R&R the governor. Brings back bad memories when I was out mowing lawns for cash & that would happen.

Norm, I remember a governor on a old mower working from the air flow off the fan? These aren't like that, I think linkage connects to a governor inside engine?

I went to a Cars and Coffee with my van this morning to meet a friend. Lots of cars, very urban vibe (as in the hood). I took some pictures, may post them.

Van did as fine as a manual everything, 4 wheel drum, column shifted over your shoulder vehicle with 70s suspension and steering geometry vehicle can do in traffic. No complaints. Got home, lunch, nap. Went and bought good gas in all the cans and drove to the pole barn. Fired up the Monte Carlo, left and immediately got brake failure. I think the combo valve took a look at a dead front end and threw the shuttle valve and the light. Soft pedal that did have some stop to it. I did enough of a road course with right turns to warm it up and went back. Rear reservoir was 1/3 full. I think I blew a front hose. Brakes were done in 2002, may be time for a comprehensive brake hydraulics job. This is better than when the MC failed in 2014; that was zero hydraulic brakes. At least I don't have to fix them in an alley garage in Terre Haute. Car doesn't have to go anywhere for a while so I can take some time.

Good morning everyone.

Yay Monday. Lead isn't here, no one is in a hurry. My wall guy is good but slow, and my robot guy is a trainee, so he's slow. Gives me more time to look at trucks on the internet.

Speaking of trucks, there's a guy in Colorado selling a 73 Imperial. That's a car that's on my short list. Trouble is I'm not sure it would make the trip home, and even though it's a good price I wouldn't have the money to ship it. Besides, what an awesome road trip. But that would be all my pickup money and then some. But it's a 73 Imperial. I got plenty of time today to overthink it. I don't think the guy is having a lot of interest.

Lots of good car show pictures this weekend. I'm living vicariously. I don't seem to hear about car shows around me. Just the Monday night cruise in at Summit. Which I'll be going to this evening. How cool would it be to have a 73 Imperial there.

Got some yardwork I need to finish up at my house after work. Gonna be nice most of the week. Gotta clear out a space for my new Imperial. Okay I'll stop. I should be talking my self out of it. Well, the trunk is about as big as a short bed pickup, I could just take the lid off.

Okay have a great day everyone.

John - Glad you got out with the Van, I know you try to get all your vehicles out every once in awhile to give them a little exercise. Sorry to hear about the Monte, but glad it wasn't a brake failure that resulted in any kind of accident.

Mike - Good luck making a decision on the '73 Imperial.

What's the status on that really cool late 50's/early 60's Chrysler you bought a few years ago? Refresh my memory, what year/model is that car? If it's drivable, people would love to see that car, it doesn't have to be perfect. You just never see those cars at shows, you'd have people talking your ear off about it!

Hi guys,

Sunny and supposed to get up to 88° today. Lots of rain in the forecast later in the week.

When I got home from the car show yesterday Dawn had a surprise for me. We got these framed pics of my Dad in Highschool from my Uncle (Dad's oldest brother) and Aunt as a wedding present but we have never had them on display. Dawn had hung them in the new Sitting Room before I got home. Her intent is to continue to decorate with other family momentos, including my athletic and work stuff at some point. It really warmed my heart when she chose to hang those 2 pictures before anything else.

In his Senior year (1954) Dad was a 1st Team All City/All Conference/All State selection in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. As far as I know still the only athlete from his Highschool to accomplish that feat. Notice the no face mask in the Football photo. Definitely not for sissies back in those days!

Good morning everyone.

Started work at 4 this morning. One hour over this morning and one this afternoon. I've actually been working steady the whole time. Hope it keeps up. I'm already over 20 just for the regular time, and 28 for the day. Lots of work going on.

Chris those are excellent pictures, and so nice of Dawn to want to put them up. The new sitting room will be the epitome of a family room. I don't have a lot of pictures of my dad, but I do have awards and certificates that are framed that he had up in his home office when I was a kid. I'm going to put them up when I get my office painted and put together. I have his desk and a few other pieces. I wouldn't part with the desk for anything.

Ah that Imperial. I've looked at the guy's post about a hundred times. I just can't swing it. If I get a good deal on a truck and he lowers his price a little, I'd consider it a little more. It's nice to dream. The trip home takes me through St. Louis. I'd stop and visit my brother, and some people from the Amphicar club live close to him, and some guy named Ralph on the MO side.

I think I mentioned before that I have several derelict mowers sitting around. I'd like to get one or more of them going because my little electric mower is no longer adequate for the yard. Never, have I worked on a gas mower and have no idea where to start. It can't be that hard there isn't that much to them.

Missed Summit last night. Got to Mom's and just felt so tired, we ate dinner and I sat down for a minute and didn't want to move. Watched about half of MASH and then went home. I was in bed before I would have been home from the show. If I had the car with me I probably would have gone, but I was in the blue van and it can be a handful at times, loose steering and not the best brakes, you have to keep on top of it and being that tired in traffic wouldn't have been terrific. Eh, it's going all summer.

Okay almost break. Don't want to miss that. Hope everyone has a great day.

Mike - Thanks! I'm really glad you have stuff of your Dad's to display too! That will be nice. You're always welcome to drop by anytime you're close or coming through.

You might not have seen this or forgot, but can you answer this question for me from above?
"What's the status on that really cool late 50's/early 60's Chrysler you bought a few years ago? Refresh my memory, what year/model is that car?"

Thanks and I hope you have a great rest of your day?

Okay that was fun. Just as we were coming off break the power went out and the computers and the equipment shut down. The big generator outside came on and kept the lights on, but we sat for almost two hours. The lead was nowhere to be found. Not much he could have done about it, but heck some leader.

Chris you're right, I was going to say something about the Imperial but then forgot and signed out. The '56 Imperial just sits. I bought a brand new battery for it when I got it and new tires. I didn't drive it because the tires are bad, then the battery went bad because I didn't drive it, then I didn't want to get a new battery because that one is new(??) and it needs exhaust put on it which I can't do without it running. So it sits. But since you asked I'm inspired to go get a new battery and see about having the tires mounted. I have new mufflers and my neighbor will put them on for me. I'm sure not doing it any favors but just seeing it makes me happy. I tell you what I'd take this car any day over its contemporary Cadillac or Lincoln. A Packard would give it a run for its money but I think the Imperial would win in the end. Maybe I'll get a Packard and see. The 56 Patrician is beauty in motion.

Mike - First, I am not saying this just because I consider you a friend. I loved that car the 1st time I saw a picture of it, and a ton of other people will too if you start getting it out to some events. You will be able to find many other events besides Summit if you just search for them. I'm really glad you're going to make the effort to get it going again and get it out. I think you'll find you'll have a blast showing it off to others if you make the effort! 👍 😃
P.S., when you have it out getting it ready to go, I'd love to see some more pictures if you remember and have the time.

I had some suddenly available time so I ran the '68 again. It started normally for 3 days since last ran. Couple pumps, starter on, couple cranks, boom. Two unidentified noises, I think I will smoke the exhaust to see if I have any leaks. I will now let it sit for a couple weeks and see if it starts normally for an evaporated fuel bowl. I am trying to see how bad the fuel pump checkball is.

Time to work on the other one, and brakes on the Chevy. I need all my stuff on one property and that property needs a lift.

A larger building and a lift sure would be nice, but I'd settle for just the lift if I can make it work in my garage! Good luck with your work on the other two.

Good morning everyone.

Another good start to the morning. But the difference from yesterday is the power hasn't gone out.

Chris I took a couple pictures of the Imperial last summer, but have no idea how to get them from my phone to the forum. I also forwarded them to my work email. I could forward them to you if you want to see them, and if you could figure out how to post them here you could. Heck you do that all the time with the hockey pictures.

Annual physical this afternoon. This will be the first with this doctor. I went through so many doctors in my previous office, I denounced them and signed up with the Emory clinic. They have an office here in the hangar. Very convenient. Besides anything Emory around here is going to be first rate.

I was reading about that guy selling the 69 Cutlass. I got the impression from his last post that he blamed everyone who didn't buy the car for it not selling, meaning he thought everyone should be fighting over it. Like he was mad that no one was interested. Pretty car, but not popular. And not worth 11K in my opinion. There's a guy on the Corvair forum who had his 4 door for sale for over a year. He would post the same sort of stuff. What's the matter with people for not rushing to buy it. Well, at 9600 bucks it just wasn't worth the money. He went on about how pristine it was and I saw this car close up. Not pristine. Like this guy, he finally sold it but wouldn't say what he got for it. No one's business, but it would be interesting to see just how far off from the asking price they went.

We're in a lull, so I think I'll take a walk. Hope everyone has a good day.

Mike - You can forward me the pics in an email if you'd like, and I'd be glad to post them here if you'd like, or I can just view them myself. I would like to show them to my Mopar buddy if you don't mind? I can't remember if you have my email already or not, so I will send it to you in a PM. Thanks!

That's a great perk to have an Emory Clinic right there in the hangar, super convenient! I hope your physical goes well! 😃

Good morning guys,

This morning we`re just at the start of a 3-day deluge of rain. At least it's not anything severe at this point, just moderate rain that will continue mostly on with a few breaks thru Friday. Cooler, 72°, with completely overcast skies, just gloomy. I forgot to mention that the repairs to our primary road out to town were completed last Friday, so no threat of being landlocked any longer.

With all this rain in the forecast I went out and mowed yesterday starting around 1100 after the dew had finally dried off. It had already gotten up to 86° by the time I got out there and around 90° by the time I got done. Between the grass, weeds, dust, and heat I'm not sure I did myself any favor by getting out there because it exacerbated my lingering congestion and cough from this damn crud I've been fighting.

Even though I wasn't really feeling it, I went to grandson Keegan's baseball game (7 and 8-yr olds) yesterday evening at 1800. He played very well. Actually, he is light years ahead of 99% of the kids he is playing against, and needs to be playing in a higher skill group. A major obstacle to that is the additional cost of him playing on a "Select" team is the cost. Especially since the boy's hockey is already so expensive.

Although I didn't have a great afternoon/night last night, I'm still hoping to keep making progress against this crud with each passing day. Being as stubborn as I can be, I'm determined at this point to beat this crap without getting a doctor involved. If I take a real turn for the worse or start spiking a fever I will call the Doc though, I don't want to end up with pneumonia.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Okay Chris on the way. Show your friend if you want, and post them here if you want.

Holding at 57 for the day. I've got a handful of 737 nose wheels that are giving me a SAP message. I might get to them today I might not. The guy in the office has to do some voodoo.

Oooh that does look nice. Thanks Chris. Some time coming up I'm gonna clean it up all nice and I'll take some pictures of its special order interior and the Hemi under the hood.

By the way, starting in 1955 the Imperial was its own marque. So no "Chrysler" Imperial. Imperial is the make and for this one, C73 is the model.

Well, there has been a couple of good things that have come out of all this rain this Spring. Our Daylilies are more full and beautiful than they've been in years, and the yard is looking like Augusta National. Just took these while we have a short break in the rain.

Mike - The (Chrysler) Imperial was one of the most elegant automobiles of all time. The problem with that one is it's in your yard not mine.
Chris - Can't be Augusta - there are no Azaleas. Still, the Lillies & landscaping are top-notch. Looking forward to sharing images of my awesome blue ***** in ~1 week.

Lot's of well-needed rain forecast the next 10 days outwards to two weeks. My landscaping is nearly complete. I've been busy pruning, shaping, edging a very large hedge line of shrubs I planted ~10 yrs. ago. They're tall, large and takes forever by hand. I refuse to buy an electric hedge trimmer. Exercise is supposed to be good for me.

Donated urine & blood @ my M.D.'s office (Quest) Monday morning. Quest results available on-line last night. Only remarkable item I found was an increase in my blood sugar. That is all on me. I need to drink LOTS more H2O, cut back on the coffee & stop eating ice cream. They performed a full CDC blood rail (analysis), + lipids, etc., etc. + PSA. All results are well w/in range - nothing remarkable. PSA = 0.87 ng/mL - virility of a teenager. M.D. office visit next Monday to review results.

Mike, the Imperial looks nice. In the mid to late '50's, Ford did the same with it's luxury flagship, the Continental, no Lincoln naming involved

Norm - Good on you for donating the fluids! Glad your physical went OK. Now get that Blood Sugar down! I don't have any room to talk, I'm borderline hypertensive and on a low dose of Amlodopine.

Good morning everyone.

Like Norm, I donated fluids this morning. Couldn't do it yesterday at my physical because it was in the afternoon and I'd been eating all day. So I skipped breakfast and snacks and break and went to have my bloodwork done at 830. Boy I was hurting. But what's funny is when I got back to my desk and ate a donut and some crackers, I felt alive again, like Marty playing at the dance when his parents kiss.

Thanks Greg and Dan. I need to do more with it.

Chris I love the stacked stone look. Don't you have flowering cherry trees? Those are what I want to get.

My robot guy is a rookie so things are slow. Although with overtime this morning I'm at 35. Not bad at all. It helps having two wall guys.

Okay have a great day everyone.

Jamesbo all are available. There's a guy in Oregon selling his beautifully restored(twice) DUKW for I think only 90K. I'd buy a DUKW at 90 before I'd buy an Amphicar at 70. I see a 56 Imperial for sale here and there. I think the Imperial is bigger than a tiny home.

Mike - Back in the 60s when me & my friends were getting/buying automotive parts (mostly J.C. Whitney downtown) there were some occasions we'd cruise salvage/junk yards. I recall the 1st time it was suggested we visit the junk yard down near Calumet City. I can't recall the exact name of the yard, but Richard Daley referred to it as "The Hilton" if I'm not mistaken (but I really can't recall exactly). Point is this - I'll never forget the number of homeless people residing in abandoned/junk cars at "The Hilton". An Imperial would make for a fine home.

Mike - Like Norm, good on you for donating.

Yes, I have a.flowering Cherry tree. It isn't a regular fruit bearing Bing Cherry or other fruit bearing variety, it's some kind of ornamental or hybrid, but it does have beautiful blossoms. It does bear tiny little cherries that are edible.

Addition: Mike, when you get to the point where you really want to buy some Cherry trees, go to a larger plant nursery and they will be able to advise you on what type you're desiring to buy.

Jim - You're in our prayers every day! Has there been any change on the possibility of you being a candidate for a transplant? I am sorry the dialysis is such a horrible burden on you!

Dawn saw an add for Firefly Petunias, which I had never heard of. Here's a simple description of them:
"Firefly Petunias are genetically engineered petunias that glow in the dark due to bioluminescent genes from a mushroom. They are similar to regular petunias, requiring full sun, regular watering, and periodic fertilization, but their glow is a unique feature."

I was skeptical to say the least, but I'll be damned if they don't actually glow in the dark, just like advertised! Pretty cool!
