The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Jeff - I began viewing Letterkenny on YouTube ~5-6 yrs. ago. Occasionally, I'll look to see what they're up to. They're on Hulu? I wouldn't know and didn't know. I don't get Hulu. I mean it's available but I think you need a subscription don't you? I thought they were only on YouTube. I consider them starving artists. I enjoy watching starving artists - folks struggling to get noticed, tempt new boundaries & be on the struggling edge of what they hope to be a developing career for themselves. I find some of Letterkenny not to be all that funny - they struggle, but occasionally they come up w/ some funny stuff.
Good morning everyone.
Rain stopped and it's supposed to be sunny today. Can't beat that. Jamesbo save me a room on the ark, I know the rain will be back.
So the diesel Suburban is tango uniform. I messed up the starting sequence and it wouldn't start, and it acted like it was flooded. I don't know if you can flood a diesel engine. In typical Mike fashion I cranked it until it was dead. If I were to jump it off or hook up a battery charger, can I just hook up to one battery or do I have to isolate the batteries? How do I know which is the primary battery? Ug these diesels are complex.
Another meal today. Jim and Nick's barbeque. We've had it before it's pretty good. Laundromat after work. Hope everyone has a good day.

Mike - The two batteries in a diesel are hooked up in parallel. If both battery cables are the same size, you can jump from either battery. If one battery cable(s) is larger, jump the battery with the larger cables. Diesels require significantly more amperage to turn the engine because a diesel is AT LEAST twice the compression of a normal gasoline engine (14:1 to 25:1). Because they lack spark plugs the higher compression ratio increases the temperature of the air in the cylinder to ignite the diesel employing compression ignition. Just to start a diesel you'll typically require twice the amperage of a normal gasoline engine; albeit, two large batteries.
Chris, glad you got the deck fixed.
Mike I really can't help on the Diesel. I would think it would be best to charge each battery separate- As far as jumping with another car I dunno. My guess if it didn't start before, it still wont start. A friend of mine had a old 6.2 Diesel that was worn out. He used WD40 sprayed down the intake every time to start it, after it was running it would restart until it got cold again. I guess WD40 will ignite but it's not as violent as either.
The other day I went to a auction viewing and looked at a few items. The auction itself was online only. I bid on a few items. I "won" a power hacksaw that sits on the floor, A Wen model. My top bit was $160 and that's what I got it for, I hope it is good, I'll have to go pick it up and pay on Friday.

Mike - One additional piece of wisdom. Look on that truck and see if it has a block heater. Most diesel trucks have a block heater. If it has one, hook up the block heater for a minimum of 2 hours prior to attempting to start the truck.

No block heater. The guy I bought it from said when it gets cold he does two cycles of the glow plugs, ie turns on the key and lets the plugs cycle, then turns off the key and turns it back on and then starts after the second cycle. It was fairly chilly the other day and I didn't do the second cycle, and also I'm in the habit of just tapping the key and the engine will crank and start(ala the Saturn and the dogmobile) and I did that not thinking, and that was my downfall. Maybe I could try a little starting fluid. I charge the batteries independently on the Deuce and a half when I need to.
Anxiously awaiting lunch. Chris do you think the guy called "all hands on deck" to fix your porch? hehe

So, without disconnecting anything, can I put the battery charger on one battery and let it set a couple hours with any success?
Lunch was good. Being from the north, I'm not a barbeque connoisseur. I thought it was good. There were a number of locals who ripped it all apart. This was bad, this was bad, one guy actually said to me don't think this is real southern barbeque. I thought, you're eating just like I am it can't be too bad.
Chris that's funny.
Okay the home stretch.

Thanks Norm. I thought I understood what you were saying but that last website doesn't make any sense to me. Some of the drawings it has looks like there would be one giant fireball. So you know what I'm gonna do? Disconnect both batteries and charge one at a time and reinstall them. After I get it started I'll take it for a nice long ride.
Mike BBQ is like chili, vegetable soup, Brunswick stew etc. There are a few thousand ways to make it and everyone want it only their [grandmas way] Example, I want my sliced on white bread with NO sauce
Yep - Beef vs. Pork, Sliced vs. Diced vs. Pulled, Rubbed vs. Sauce, Slaw on a Sammich or Not, we could probably go on for days!

Chris, I used to cook a whole pig [small] 200 lbs or less several times a year. Special occasions like full moon, etc. According to Betty Tallmadge [former senators wife who has been to ten million BBQs ] We always cooked the pig upside down so the cavity held all the liquid fat. They were delicious but the ribs were usually over cooked [unfortunately] When you grab a hine leg and can pull it out out it done. There is absolutely nothing better than pig skin with a cup of Joe after cooking all night. The only thing we did was use a spray bottle of water and vinegar during the night

As that front moved through the temperatures were in the lower 70°F range - it's 67°F now. Won't last long - several more hours they head back down. Tee-time @ 8:16AM ~49°F, wind 10mph, wind-chill ~43°F warming to 56° by 2PM.
33° F here right now, not sure what the overnight low is supposed to be. I know they're calling for overnight lows in the low single digits later next week, with highs in the mid-teens, Ugh!
