Nice and hot this morning. Was hot yesterday. I'm quite sure the AC in my house runs and doesn't ever shut off. With the AC being out upstairs it was 97* up there, according to the thermostat. I wonder if that is somehow making the AC downstairs run non-stop, trying to push the cold air up the stairs. I gotta call about that, my electric bill will be out of sight.
Summit cruise in last night. About 75 cars. It was hot even as the sun was going down. No Oldsmobiles. Oh, there might have been one. A customizer guy was there and what I thought was an Oldsmobile looked like a squished jellyfish. Like from the 40s. Not my thing but lots of excellent work went into it.
Work has really gone well this morning, looks like we might hit our goal for the first time in awhile. Lots of stuff to do after work today, and still get to supper by 5. Yow. Have a good day everyone.
I imagine a squished jellyfish Olds to be like such:
Well, started a really good clean up on Olds today. It seems like a lot more work than it used to be. I noticed the paint felt sort of rough in places, especially the hood and trunk lid. I wonder if I may have gotten a little overspray on it sometime. I got out the clay bar system kit I bought years ago and used it, that helped but I think car should be buffed some. After clay bar I waxed car. Tomorrow I need to finish left side waxing, clean windows, interior, trunk and engine. I want it to be clean for Homecoming this weekend. I also am going to take it to the Nationals in early July. I have to look at my little log book to see when I last changed oil, etc. I may need to do that also, rotate tires check brakes.... on and on.... Truck is pretty much ready to drive.
Actually it looked like it had been widened, the hood was sectioned(horizontally, I don't know what that's called), the roof was chopped, I didn't get a look at the back. And it was some awful purplish maroonish.
Left Tiger home this afternoon and went to put gas in the car, mail some bills, and then went to Carmax to see that car. It was actually pretty nice. I didn't drive it, just checked it out a little. I told the guy my next chance to be back would be Friday, and if he didn't want to tie the car up all week I'd take my chances. He said I had his word that it would be there Friday. A young guy, not the used car salesman type.
I was quite sure that the AC hadn't turned off all day, and it was rather chilly in the house, so I turned it off. I left the ceiling fans going in the living room when I left, and that's where Tiger stayed, though it wasn't roasting in the house when I got home. It was 79 and I did turn the air back on, it will probably run all night. Sheesh.
Hm I'm done early tonight, I might as well go to bed. I can remember not too long ago that thought wouldn't have even crossed my mind. Okay have a good night everyone.
Holy heat wave. It was sticky at 6am here in northern MI at the cottage. Gotta get the window ac installed at lunch!
Jeff - I saw where they were predicting a high of 94° for Battle Creek today, very abnormal and crazy high for up there! Here in StL we're headed towards 99° for a high today, staying in the mid to high 90's thru the weekend, then a couple days of low 100's Monday and Tuesday!
Well, I didn't get out to the garage quite as early this morning, but still got started by 0630. Got both sides polished with detailer. Then I cleaned the underside of the hood. Somehow, tiny bugs, nat sized, get through the grill and get stuck/fried onto one main section of the underside of the hood. They're pretty easy so see against the flat black paint. Still need to polish the chrome air cleaner and valve covers, and dust a little in the engine bay. All the body is now done, but still need to clean the wheels. I'll do the interior last, not much to do in there except dust and vacuum the carpet, it's already very clean.
We have our annual HOA budget approval meeting tomorrow evening. The HOA board sent out a preview of the proposed budget and the 1st thing that jumped out at me was a proposed 300% increase in legal fees, WTH, who did what to whom??? We had heard via the gossip line that someone was suing the subdivision, but haven't heard any factual details, and none have been disclosed by the HOA board. I'm guessing tomorrow evening there'll be some fireworks! Not looking forward to it, 2-hours of my life I won't get back.
No more boring weather stats, it's just HOT! I'd really like to get out and do some riding with some of my buddies, but it's just way too 🔥 🔥 🔥!
Welcome to my world. I get to go back outside in October.
Kenneth - What you're experiencing out there these days is "other worldly"! Not intended to rub it in, but I wouldn't trade ya. You ever think about moving to a more moderate climate after you retire?
Thinking about it. I need some place between where I am now in this blazing hot dry desert and where I was before in the wet humid swamp.
Seriously, I like the weather in this part of the midwest compared to growing up in Michigan. We still have 4 seasons, but a short, mild winter Dec. thru Feb., and the summer highs are usually only mid 80's to low 90's, which I don't mind because I like the warmer weather. We can usually expect nice weather April thru November, which I really like since my major hobbies are both motorsports.
The expected afternoon shower yesterday never materialized
So, at 1st light I'm out to water trees [ We allow families to have a white dogwood if they want one]
Yesterday, I got an email receipt for my new custom made canvas top for the M 38 A 1, I also ordered on for the trailer. That means they are finally ready to ship. I sure hope it's not coming on a slow boat. All of the jeep forums highly recommended this company, so I'm sure I'll be pleased
Oh yeah yesterday was HOT!! Not Kenneth's hot but hot for us. Took a boat ride- even with air movement unbearable unless under the bimini top for shade. Last night was a bad one for sleeping. 1st was a thunderstorm with the prettiest sounding rolling thunder I've ever heard, it was actually quite pleasant. 2nd was Buddy kept trying to get me up and I kept telling him to go back to bed. Well at his insistence I got up and took him out to do business. Well he had already made a mess, so scolded him for that and gave him a couple light slaps on his side and he got so upset he started to puke... UGH. I felt bad and cuddled and consoled him- oh and cleaned up messes... Then after back asleep some critter out in yard was screaming it's heat off- I mean loud and bloody murder, which I'm pretty sure what happened. Wifey used to raise rabbits when she was a kid and says they will scream like that if caught. Maybe a fox or coyote??? Man what a way to wake up. It was about 5 AM then. Then slept like a baby till about 6. Got Old's pretty well cleaned up yesterday. I think you enjoy cleaning/ detailing your Olds more than I do, Ralph! Only thing left is under hood, I'm not going to change oil, etc now. Think I'll do it after trip to Murphreesboro. Take care guys!
Good start to the day, which makes three in a row. Last two days we ended early and left a few minutes early. If we can get out before the rest of the hangar we're doing pretty good. Otherwise it's waiting a half hour in traffic to get out to the lights. We told the lead we should get paid for this amount of time so maybe he's patronizing us.
Yesterday we were approaching Kenneth hot. I got in the car and it said 114*. That was the car sitting out in the sun all day. After a 30 minute ride home mostly interstate, it still said 101. The news person said the hottest it got around town was 96. She obviously didn't ask Stockbridge.
Greg one time a long time ago I was sleeping and Max kept coming in to my room. I said, get lost. Well, little did I know he had a bad tummy and a little while later I woke to, what's that smell? He couldn't take it anymore and had gone in my office. Later I asked my Mom if Max had bothered her. Yup. No I didn't scold Max. He tried...
We got some rain around dinnertime last night, a nice soaking rain that lasted several minutes. Temps went way down. Things will green up a little and start growing. I'm going to take all weekend to mow, and get everything mowed. It will probably take more than the weekend.
Okay got some wheels. Hope everyone has a good day.
Greg - I really do enjoy detailing my car, just not as much when it's so damn hot and you have to start at O'dark thirty to keep from turning into a puddle!
Jim - Nice rig and pretty setting.
I took a break from the car this morning because I needed to mow. I started at 0730 and was sopping wet by the time I got done around 0930. Nothing fun on the plan for today. I will still do my regular cardio workout this afternoon and then we have that damn subdivision meeting at 1830 this evening, not looking forward to that. Speaking of working out, I stepped on the scale today and I was down to 172 lbs. from a high of 185 lbs. at one point over the winter. Already down below my college playing weight of 175, I'm pretty proud of myself!
Tomorrow morning I'm hoping to finish up the detailing on my 4-4-2. Friday evening, unless the wife comes up with another plan, I'm going to get the Indian out and ride it to a car cruise that I otherwise would take the car to if I didn't already have it all clean for the show on Sunday.
My girls are taking me out for pizza (and beer) on Saturday evening for an early Father's Day because I have the Car Show on Sunday. Always a great time when we all get together.
How many trees need watering? How many gallons of water/tree? Size of water tank?
Norm, Around 30 trees [ of different sizes] The tank is 300 gallons but I usually don't fill it all the way up. the hose bib on the tank has a splitter so I run a short and long hose to different trees at the same time. In the pic, you can't see it but in front of the bed are 4 milk crates with 4 gallons in each. What I do is while the 2 hoses are running on 2 trees, I gab a few gallons and water some others
My main man takes about 6 x longer cause he's paid by the hour. I'm kind of a GET it Done guy
The big tree in the pic probably got 10 gallons today most of ours are 5 gallon container trees
In this heat about 4 gallons of water per tree. I usually let 2 soak in and circle back for the second 2
Jim - Residing in Florida teaching college (Majors Biology) full time (directly after grad school) I drove around the country visiting family/friends during the summer except one summer. Friend of mine worked on a tree farm, they were looking to hire workers for the summer - they hired me. Tree farm had ~15,000 trees of varying sizes (maturity) & species spread over ~200+ acres. I got to see a tree farm up close & personal. BTW, the guy who owned the tree farm invented & patented the first round bale off-loader trailer (he had lots of $$). I primarily worked the watering system - installing new drip lines, clearing lines, replacing nozzles/sprayers - all ran from several wells located on the property. Lots & lots of plastic watering lines to maintain on a daily basis. Occasionally they'd throw me on a crew for tree plantings at some commercial business or residence. Very impressive watching them unearth, transport & plant one or more of the big boys ( 20' tall palm trees & other deciduous trees) with those automatic tree spade moving machines (they had a couple of them).
That's a pic from Marty at PowerSteering.com. He thinks that the old shaft in my pump hadn't been hardened properly, and the splines were worn off. No friggin' wonder I had no power steering assist!
Jim - Understand. The tree farm had trees of nearly every size - from saplings to big boys.
Jeff - I saw that on your PS thread. I had a lobe on a motorcycle camshaft round itself down until there was no lobe remaining. No idea how that happened other than to assume improper hardening, as well.
Outdoor temp in the shade says it all, just blistering!
Had a nice dinner, Dawn had Beef & Broccoli and Chicken Wings, and I had Chinese Boneless Ribs and Pork Fried Rice. The Boneless Ribs are in a semi-sweet, but very spicy hot Szechuan sauce, delicious if you like very spicy food.
Chris - The scissor lift's measured height is 3.5" collapsed - I believe it raises to twice its collapsed height (7"). You should have plenty of space to slide the scissor lift under your frame & 7" of height should be more than adequate to change oils. In the video (below) I have it raised only 2" - just enough to raise the rear tire off the ground. When I change out the transmission oil I raise it so both wheels are off the ground.

Norm - That's a nice lift, I could certainly use one like that. Honestly, I am in somewhat of a quandary about my bikes, I have not been riding nearly as much this summer as in the past. Some of it has been the weather, but a large part of it has been I've been taking my car to many more events. I know one thing for sure, I certainly don't need 2 bikes. My 2016 Indian barely has 9K-miles on it. My Yamaha is due for a gear oil change (every 15K), but the owners manual doesn't even give directions on how to do it, it only suggests having a Yamaha service technician do it. I know the fill area is tough to get at, but I also know guys do their own. Time to look for some You Tube videos to see just how tough it is.
