Been a busy couple of days. My sister has been here and we've been putting stuff away, moving stuff around, and having a nice visit. It's been 100 several days since the weekend and the AC in my house has gone tango uniform. Guy is coming tomorrow for a look.
I decided against the Flex. My Mom always tries for the scooter at the grocery store and more times than not people who don't need them have them all taken up. I said she should get her own scooter and we'll bring it with. My sister is going to check into them and see if we can even get Medicare to pay for it. A scooter wouldn't fit in the Flex, so that is that. My first thought was the blue van, but I'm going to do some research into high top type vans.
Gonna catch up a little and hit the sack. Box fans going full out keep things relatively comfy at night. Hope this is the last night for it.
Here in Phoenix folks use trailer hitch mounted carriers for scooters (and there are a LOT of those folks with this being the retirement capital of the Midwest). Seen them on all types of vehicles. Many are quite fancy with drive-on ramps and electric lifts.
Mike - As Kenneth mentioned, I see a fair number of vehicles w/ a hitch mounted scooter carrier here, as well - mounted on both cars & vans. My combination heat pump AC compressor went Tango Uniform on me at the beginning of the summer.
Chris - My Culligan water softener seal(s) were replaced ~2 years ago for the second time in 15 years.
My new adult toy arrived yesterday & the battery is charging right now. Says it takes ~50 minutes to fully charge. I am so looking forward not having to deal w/ a 2-cycle weed eater.
We had rain last night for the first time in >two weeks - we really, really needed it. Things were seriously getting very, very dry around here.

Norm - I have read the filter media is usually completely shot by 15-years too, and I was just tired of it nickel and diving me to death. Decided to go with a company that builds custom built units that offer a 7-year parts & labor warranty. They have alot of very good reviews and A+ with the BBB. Guess we'll see???
I got fed up with my gas trimmer 4 seasons ago. Bought a light duty B&D battery trimmer which is just fine with no more trimming than I have. The original 1.5Ah battery only lasted three seasons. I bought a 2-pack off Amazon at the start of this season. 100% less of a PIA than those 2 cycles.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to a local radiator shop to get the anti freeze flush & replace on the Hyundai, they said that they couldn't get me in until July, and I stated that I didn't want to wait that long, they quoted me "about $150.00". Hmmm, not cheap, maybe I should do it myself. Had Santa Fe in right after that for the oil change, and asked for a quote, and as this was the dealership I figured that it would only be worse. They quoted $115.00, so I scheduled it, had it done yesterday, he laid the paperwork on the counter so the gal could ring me up. It showed $101.00, cool, a lower price! At which point the service guy says " I got you a discount", which took it down to $86.04. Well, not so bad after all! While I was there, I noticed two skids of motor oil sitting on the floor, one was Quaker State 5w30...the normal stuff, but the other skid was Pennzoil OW-16, wtf? Apparently they are using it in the new Hyundai's according to the same service tech. Go figure. Cars shows, been going to them for over forty years, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I'll be headed to the Gilmore for a musclecar show this Sat.
I will NEVER buy anything made my HKMC (Hyundai Kia Motors Corp) based on my dealings with them at my job. Google engine problems, and you'll find everything from fires to oil consumption issues involving multiple recalls and a whistleblower being awarded millions of dollars. A friend and coworker had his engine replaced due to the oil consumption recall after nearly 100k miles. Now, he's faced with the dilemma of, "Do I keep it, since it has a new engine? Or do I take this opportunity to sell it / trade it in on something else, knowing that I have plenty of paperwork to justify selling / trading at a good price?"
I had to look up what the uses are for 0w-16. Seems that Toyota and Honda engines since 2018 have been using this oil, so perhaps HKMC thinks this is what will save their engines from the oiling problems that they've experienced since the mid-00's.

We have a chance for rain the next couple of days, but I ain't holding my breath waiting on it. I can't remember the last time it rained - maybe in April? Coulda been March, though.
They came to install my new water softener today. Didn't take them long with there being an existing system there. Two younger guys working together, very personable. They were done in about 30-minutes max. After they were gone, I then did my workout and went to take a shower. The water felt very "hard". At first I thought, well maybe it will take awhile to kick in because of the water that was already in the water heater. Then, after I got out of the shower I thought, what if they did not set the bypass valve to the correct position. I first reviewed the owner's manual, and then went to the basement to check it. Sure as $hit it was not set to the correct position for normal operation, it was left in a "diagnostic mode" position meant for initial set-up. I sure was glad I paid all that money to have it installed correctly!!!
When you put my water softener into diagnostic mode it takes about 20'-30' to run the diagnostics & it then returns to normal mode of operation on its own.
Chris - BTW, I understand your initial setup for the diagnostic valve was not set to the "normal" operation - very personable were they? Ha, ha, ha *******...

Just to make sure, you understand, the bypass valve was left in the positions shown in Fig. 3, when it needed to be in the position shown in Fig. 1.
Got a little bit done today. Got one of the engines from the front yard into the back of the truck. It didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. Maybe the other engine, or the trans that I forgot was there, will do better.
So the AC guy showed up today. We found out why it quit working. One of the blades let loose and it shredded the entire unit. He said it literally blew up. Blew the side panels off, pushed it off the concrete pad. He said, it's dead. He didn't look at the other one, he said he'd have a look when he comes to replace the downstairs one. Oh, so he says, and half the neighborhood knows him so I have no reason to doubt him, he says that after this next January 1 there will be new government regulations, blah blah and it will be over twice as much to replace a system as it is now, and even if we get the upstairs unit working I should replace it anyway. Both are original to the house(1993) which is contrary to what the guy said when I bought the place. And he's coming back next Thursday. Tiger is now a resident of his old house again, until it gets below 86 at home.
We don't have hard water here in the Greater Stockbridge Area, but I would love to have a whole house water filter, to remove sediment, chlorine, lead. I hear they range in price from 25 bucks on Amazon Prime to over 2K. Heck add it to the total.
Well I'm beat. It doesn't take long these days to wear me out at 100 plus degrees outside. Gonna bid adieu to Tiger and go home to a box fan and a ceiling fan, I'll decide what to do tomorrow, tomorrow.
Mike, You should come to the lake tomorrow morning and bring Tiger.
You could meet Donny, take a dip and cool off, help us put the top on the M-38 A 1, help us load one of [his choosing] 442 axles/ Differentials in my truck and do an LA turn around and head home
It's at least 10 degrees cooler up there and the lake is waiting on ya
Tanks Norm, It was really very easy to install . It make take a few more hosing down to get as tight as I want it. but I didn't want to spend the whole day interrupting my friends vacation So I beat feet home
Spent the morning mowing and trimming before it got too hot. Wife wanted to go to the pool at the semi-private Country Club just a mile up the street. They have a pay by the day option for use of the pool, only $5 I think. I ran her up there and then came home to do my workout, then went back to pick her up about 3-hours later.
The weather is looking more and more iffy for attending the car show on Sunday, but ya never know, the forecast changes every 5-minutes around here.
No big plans for the rest of the day. I'm grilling BBQ Pork Steaks for dinner and wifey is making sides. I love BBQ Pork Steaks! We're going to eat early enough that I may go out for a ride for a couple hours after my dinner settles, I haven't been out in awhile.
Slow start to the day but I got a few things done. Stayed a while longer at the airport than usual, but none of the old guys had anything to do so we just kept talking. This afternoon I got a transmission into the pickup and took it over and dumped it off at the shop. Anyone want a 62 Roto automatic that's been sitting in the mud for 10 years? "Ran when parked."
Beautiful here and not as scorching as it has been. Only 84 in the house this morning. Got to thinking about my upcoming new AC. Do you think that would include the furnace as well or will I have a new AC and a 30 year old furnace? For 6200 bucks it ought to include a daily blow job from the current Playboy centerfold. I'd love to have a heat pump put in instead. I hate heat pumps but it would be one step closer to being natural gas-free.
Jamesbo you'll be the hit of the July 4th parade. Now you need to hire some rug rats to sit in the back and throw candy at people. I'll make it up there one of these days. But not when your friend is there with his family that would be weird.
An HVAC salesman told me that they were supposed to push heat pumps, but since the house I was looking at had a gas heat that I should keep the gas heat as it was much better than the heat pump. And this was in Phoenix where it doesn’t really get cold.
Well, my main man came home from Miami for 2 days [worked here 1 and his home 1] He's headed back to Miami and try to begin the process of settling his father's estate.
I had to borrow some golf course crew today. Should get alot done. The cemetery isn't in bad shape but after today it should be close to where I want it
Going to get an early start, watering, mowing, weed eating
Hit a stone while mowing yard, yep, went right thru center stationary sash of a Andersen casement window, then exited kitchen punching hole thru screen on open patio door, ending up back outside on deck... Good thing no one was in kitchen when it happened! WOW theses Andersen replacement sashes are pricey- $5-700, depending. I have a $500. deductible. Looks easy enough to change myself, I'll do some more checking...
Greg, sounds like something I would do. I have a pea gravel drive ands you'd think I'd learn blowers and pea gravel don't Gee and haw with glass french doors or car windows
Just a little warm here today, 102° in the shade! There was a really big car show about 45-miles northwest of me today in Pacific, MO where my BIL lives. That temp is exactly why I didn't go.
As for the show I had planned to go to tomorrow, the jury's still out. All 3 weather Apps I monitor keep going up and down as to the rain percentages. Most of the rain is projected overnight, so if the roads are dry in the morning around 0700 or 0800, I'll probably go. Might even be willing to wait until 1000 to leave if it means being able to get the car out, without the need for substantial clean-up when I get to the show.
My project for the day was disposing of the old water softner. What a PIA. It was half-full of salt and water, so it was extremely heavy. I was able to get if out of the basement and up the hill on a hand truck. Then I dumped the water down the street sewer drain. Then scooped the old salt into plastic garbage bags. Then I disassembled everything I could. Wife wanted to keep the old brine tank for a garbage can in her shop. I was able to fit all the old parts, including the old filter element, and the old salt in our very large garbage can, but it is very heavy. Hope the garbage truck operator doesn't drop it, or bitch about it.
Mama and I might go for an ice-cream later, sounds like a good plan to me!
Hope everyone had a great day and has a relaxing evening!
It stormed on and off at different times through the night with thunderboomers, and Monty was his usual mess. I had set my alarm for 0500, and when it went off it was pouring outside, so I reset my alarm for 0600, woke up, and it was still raining. I got up because I didn't want to subject my wife to any more alarms. The rain stopped around 0630, but I don't see the roads drying out anytime soon because it's totally overcast and about 95% humidity out there. The skies are gonna have to clear and the sun come out soon if there's gonna be any chance of me going to the Car Show today. Best Laid Plans??? I'll make the final call NLT 1000.
Had gotten all my chores done to ease my own conscience about going to a show most of the day, so if I don't go I guess I'll plan on joining Jim on the couch.
Just saw this on the news today. Thank goodness a front came through this weekend and we only got to 108 so it’s nothing close to this. Yet.
Kenneth - Wow, 122°, that's just nuts!
Crazy weather here too, but you ain't gonna want to hear this. 102° yesterday afternoon. Right now behind the front that just moved through, 70°. Time to get the dogs out for a walk and have some rambunctious play time in the yard while they can actually stand to be outside.
Yeah I saw the national weather map and y’all have a frontal system with a lotta rain. That same system grazed us, which resulted in an infusion of moist air and the rain we got (0.1” total). We have increased humidity and thunderstorm chances all week long. And highs in the low 100s. I’ll take this over 110+ any day.
