I had heard of one before, but I was unfamiliar with what one looked like, and I did an online search for something that looked like what you have. So, I cheated a little.

Monday Monday

It was a bleh day. The lead was there this morning then skipped out. I heard he went to a funeral. A cousin was a mentor to someone who went nuts and stabbed her to death. Wasn't that in a movie?

Three people signing off, the number was 155, we got to 130. Full staff, no one was in a hurry. They think we're going to be doing 180 this summer. Got news for them.

I didn't go to the cruise in tonight. It rained all morning, and even though it was nice all afternoon, the show usually gets canceled anyway. And even if it wasn't canceled, there wouldn't have been a good turnout because most people would have thought it was canceled. So I stayed home and did laundry and moved boxes around.

Day 2 is upon us. Tomorrow is the shindig so there won't be anything get done, people will be going back and forth to that all day. Happy Birthday to Charles Taylor.

Okay off to bed. See you's tomorrow.

So, My second cousin [57] has lost her mom and dad and has lots of questions , that I'm trying to help her work through. She lives in Bethesda and I don't get to see her very often. For some reason the subject never has come up in the past. Maybe because she's a girl she really doesn't know squat about her dad's military career. She's a very bright young lady but I'm almost astonished what she doesn't know. She has know idea what a CIB is or how/what/when/ where

West Point, Green Beret, Jump master, chased Che around south American jungles and two trips to lovely Vietnam. Taught at the military academy and basically a "Fast tracker' made full bird

Later he was out jogging, and passed out. Soon they found he had a brain tumor . A short time later he was gone.
Yep good ole agent Orange

I'm a little torn on what 'details" I should leave out. I really admired him partially because [unlike Moi] he always did what you're " supposed to do" only things didn't work out because of a government phuque up

Naturally his bio page from the USMA doesn't say "Agent orange" It reads like a DD 214 and R.I.P good soldier

Thanks for allowing me to vent

A shindig is sort of like a hootenanny but there probably won't be dancing. Music yes. If there are managers there they will be dancing around the questions they are asked.

Boy this computer can be irritating, went to respond to Jim's post and I hit shift at same time as some combo of things put screen in split and I couldn't even type anymore- UGH. Had to completely exit the site to get back on. Anyway went to say " sounds like your cousin was a unsung hero, Jim". there, got it... Made form and dug out grass and dirt, then poured concrete for pad for generator to sit on yesterday, went really well. Today I hope I can get back to the 56 F100, primer painted on truck cowl, hood and another coat on outside of fenders. Then I will be able to actually paint inside of hood, edges of fenders, cowl and panel under the grille with body color. Then I can start reassembly. How cool will that be!. I planned to have truck back together a month ago and back on the road for the summer, but little thing came up this winter like kidney tumor removal (me) and kidney transplant ( wife). Actually things couldn't have went better. I am very thankful. Have a good day, guys!

Jim - My youngest brother (59) is just far enough removed in age to not have the slightest notion of Vietnam - even in general terms. Honestly, I'm surprised by both of my brother's lack of history regarding our dad's military service. Actually, neither one of them are the sharpest tools in the shed. This explains why I possess all my dad's military records, possessions, decorations (including his dog tags), etc. Some get it - some don't. I gave up years ago.

Greg - Sounds like you went into the "never" land this morning. Yeah, holding the Shift Key or Ctrl Key at the same time as another Key invokes a "macro" function on any keyboard (i.e. a keyboard shortcut) - I realize yours was by mistake. Good job forming & pouring the generator concrete pad. You have a mixer, you do the mix in a wheel barrow or call in a truck? We need pictures when this is done, Greg.

Norm, This young lady really wants to know. I guess when you're a girl playing with dolls and frequently moving form place to place you don't want to know what all your dad's

Jim - I have a single ribbon w/ two silver oak leaf clusters, a Good Conduct Medal, and a DD214 stating HONORABLE (which I guess backs up the Good Conduct Medal).

EDIT: Come to think of it, I think I have one or two more in a drawer somewhere - I may have to try to find them.

I'm sorry Norm, I thought I had previously mentioned the shindig. Every year on May 24 we have "AMT Day." Aviation Maintenance Technician is my official job title. May 24 is the birthday of Charles Taylor, the Wright brothers' mechanic. Widely accepted as the first airplane mechanic. So, in honor of Charles Taylor the company has food catered in and vendors come in with giveaways and deals on tools. Ordinarily the company gives everyone a gift, like a flashlight, but not this year. The executives need their retaining bonuses for doing such a good job during the downturn. It's a good time to see former co-workers who have moved on to other shops. And the barbeque place they have come in has pretty good food. It's tough to make lunch for 5,000 people.

Jamesbo did both of your cousin's parents pass at the same time? That would be a tough one. Is this recent? I think you should tell her everything you know. Militarily anyway. She doesn't need to know if he frequented places of questionable integrity.

Slow going this morning. The overtime people did 20 wheels, so that's a big dent in the day's number. Hard telling this early if we'll get it all done or not. The pessimist in me says we won't. The optimist in me says he has full confidence in the pessimist.

More rain I think today and wind. I need heavier firewood to hold down the car covers. I need a 10,00 square foot warehouse.

Jim - With your cousin being 57-years old now, my suggestion would be to tell her as much about her Dad's life history as she wants to hear. I don't have any idea if she has kids of her own or not, but if she does, her kids may want to know more about Grandpa too!

I second that idea. Provide as much history and information as possible, especially if she's interested.

My grandfather died in a car accident when my Dad was 6 or 7. We have sketchy history of my Dad's side of the family, as his older siblings didn't share too much. As an example of the sketchy details: no one is certain if the family immigrated from Germany or Prussia. There was also a story that our original family name was Weitz, not Weiss, but was changed on Ellis Island to Weiss because whoever was logging them in misheard the name. At some point, I'd love to dive into the family tree via Ancestry.com (I'm on 23andMe.com, but that info is not very detailed, being the betamax to VHS of the online family tree DNA websites) and clear up some of this. I also have a cousin that has actively been pursuing our lineage since she retired, and hope to see her results some day.

Mike - The shindig now makes sense. Sounds like a decent feast. I'm now more knowledgeable regarding Charlie Taylor and Cerro Gordo, Illinois.

Jim - Yes, sounds like he logged a couple hours in the Huey. Four bronze stars one of which is a "V" - a very accomplished man.

I just had my bi-weekly therapeutic massage. Time to long more hours cleaning the Indian.

Norm - Thanks! Yep, the infamous Secure "puck". Pics only by the official NGA photographer. I know you can appreciate all the "hoops" that have been jumped through just to get my family into the building for this shindig (quoting Mike), and to get these photos emailed to my home after this event.

Chris - The term "puck" just wouldn't surface fast enough as I was thinking of the correct term. I was curious how family members were able to get on-site without the required "probing".

Norm - Wife and daughters were already on my TS 5-yr Periodic Investigation. I had to have a date picked for the ceremony, and submit Justin's and Gabe's names 2-months prior to get them into the facility. Of course there was much more involved, escorts to/from visitor parking to the conference room, UNCLEARED VISITORS signs in hallways, notices to all Orgs/Departments along their route of ingress/egress that uncleared visitors would be in the area, a real PIA. I'm actually surprised they'll go through the trouble of making it happen, but I guess 35-years of service ought to be worth a little trouble.

Good Jamesbo, sounds like an awesome guy. I hope your cousin finds what she's after.

The dinner was okay. Had to walk a country mile to get to Bay 7 where everything was set up. It was one of those deals where the food was already put into the styrofoam containers and you just walked past and picked one up. I took it back to my desk and watched youtube while I ate. Not bad.

Did a couple little things at Mom's tonight and then headed back. I'm tired. The dogmobile started acting up so I dug out the pickup and will take it until I can get the dogmobile sorted. Man, everything I have needs work.

Okay time for bed. Hump Day tomorrow. Damn this has been a long week. Eight days and counting. Hm, sounds like The Beatles.

Mike, I can relate.

My newest of 3 cars car is an ‘06 so something always needs maintenance.

Two dogs with special needs. Daily meds. One is supposed to get a medical shampoo 2x weekly.

Dang swimming pool requires constant upkeep this time of year. Most recent issue is a pair of mallards have appropriated it as their personal duck pond. Daily deposits of duck poop that I have to vacuum out. Jokingly asked the young clerk at the pool store if they had anything to keep mallards out. I got a blank look and “I don’t know what those are” reply. I said “ducks”. Who doesn’t know that mallards are ducks? City slicker kids, I guess.

Norm, You speaking about your father's uniforms prompted my mind to remember, My father's. All of his had a "Ruptured Duck' An insignia sewed on that meant, he was discharged but still in uniform [because of the clothing shortage] It's supposed to be an eagle

So the MP's wouldn't arrest ya for whatever you were doing

When I was a kid you could tell what branch of the service the father's were in when they cut the grass in surplus OD fatigues or Navy denims. Surplus Cheap durable clothes were everywhere

Hey guys,

Just catching my breath for a minute after getting up late for me (0800). Bills to do, furniture piece sold and picked up, and running some local errands. Had to help my wife get the piece of furniture up to the garage. She sold that Dough Box already, the lady who bought it is going to use it as an end table. It sold for $150, and my wife had bought 3 of them (slightly various sizes, but same exact style/shape) for $150 total, so she has already recouped her initial investment.

Well, you guys already know I love my guns, shooting, and hunting, but I am just sick and severely saddened over another mass shooting of school children. I don't know what the right answer is, I only know I hate the feeling, and how I feel would be a thousand times worse if it had happened to one of my grandchildren! I am praying for those poor families, but their lives will never be the same! Something has to be done! Just couldn't sit here with my gut churning and not say anything about this horrific incident!

I hope you all have a wonderful day!
