I had to rework a whole section on the lower end because, I got carried away and started to pull out a body line thinking it was a dent lol.

 

Seam sealed deck lid finished prepping right door jambs

Took the hinges off and found that my lower hing has a crack in it

 

East wood tinning butter and lead work

Okay
1. Clean area very well if need be spot sand blast
2. Mix the tinning butter as it seams to settle.
3. Apply a thin coat of tinning butter to the area about 3" around
4. I used steal wool in vise grips and heated area as I spread running compond around. Apply a small amount of lead drops as your doing this to help prep the are. It will get really shiny when ready

5. Apply lead where needed and begging to work with lead paddles
6. File to finish up after area has cooled
7 clean area very well before paint

I think you were moving pretty good. I think it's easier to take parts into work and stay after a hr with no distractions. Once your home life certenly has the habit of getting in the way lol. We will see how fast I get it put togeather as most if it will be done at home

 

My buddy got the dent out needs a little lead to sharpen the edge

Lol took me a min then. I have two with my wife she adopted my two middle ones and I have two older ones that are a pain teenagers lol I seemed to have them in sets girl boy order and first set 2 years apart next is 1 year apart and the last one came 3 months early witch put them at 9 months apart lol it's a lot if fun most days

Holly cow! Talk about a heart attack, I watched my buddy pull the door trim on the other door. I was screaming the whole time to my self as I trust him.

He used two putty knifes and a body hammer with a touch of heat. 😱
Now he is playing with my practice parts that I messed up awhile back on metal finishing them and light sanding a polishing them to fix the last 49 years of damage and scratches

 

Should have gotten some video so the rest of us could cringe with you

 

He is a pretty humble guy, doesn't let me take pics of him working lol. I think he secretly is enjoying this build, maybe even gets a kick at watching me work for hrs then he walks over and a few taps here and there and bingo ready for primer.

Your is a 64 there different but I do have a drivers fender for a 64 needs lots of work lol

 

Just have hood and cowl left to do, besides the jambs on the shell

Hood has a small amount of rust and a dent the used bondo across the whole front part of the hood

Started to strip hood the whole thing was skimmed with bondo looks like three or four different repairs

Now the fun begins in the front lip area

We popped up about a dozen little dings with heat and filed them down over all not to bad except the front that is rusted

 

All that sanding must be brutal work. Keep it up Justin, it'll get there

I am really hoping to have it done in two weeks, as I'm bringing the car down to do the jambs and roof next week.

40 grit? Might as well hot glue some gravel to your sander, lol.

The three different layers in the above pic is three different bondo skim. one for each layer of paint thats on the car, I really can't belie that some one never sanded down enough to see or they just didn't care. In my opinion the amount of metal work that is needed is less then bondoing and block sand that must have been done. Because truly I couldn't tell that it was done in some spots it was 1/2 inch thick

 

Yes, 40 grit the old paint just gums up the sand paper. 40 grit tell you see spots of metal and the original primer then hit with 80g

 

I imagine that 40 grit wears down pretty quickly. Are you using air or electric sander?

 

Air sanders with a 10 inch I think pad it took three pads of 40g and two pads of 80g for the whole hood. Once I work out dents and file work, then I will hit with air grinder. I think it's a 80 grit on that pad ( will check tomorrow ) but it looks like this when done

Then I sand with a 120g for primer

I hear that! Mines getting dusty and crummy just sitting in the shop...with an air cleaner running 24/7.

Sorry, I don't have one I have bought most of my parts from John (2blu442) he is in Orgeon has shipped thru greyhound if your looking for a non post I would think it would be fairly cheap to ship. I would check with him

Any how here is what I got done today
40% of the hood complete lol. I really hate flat panel work I had to urathan the supports to the panel in a few spots as it was flexing. tomorrow I hope to get the big dent out of the left side and prep the lip area for lead work.

Make sure you use a non solids urethane otherwise over time you will get dips where you used it. Don't ask me how I know but its from first hand experience lol. Cant wait to see some color on it.
