We are using it current shape to shape the new metal and we have a tool that beds a 1/4 so we lap it around edges only not the whole section if I understand what you mean

Edit on the trunk pan we did over lap about a 1/2 inch there was a indent in the new pan that it lined up to and sat flush so we figured that's how it was to be done.

My buddy has 30 years in collision repair this has been a learning experience for the both of us

Your right it was to make the shape we needed orig was smashed in so we got close looking on the other quarter

Edit: thought I would add this was made from a door skin from a lower section of a four door from a 64 .I did not weld this section.I glued it with the body glue . It holds better than a weld from the studies as it has anti rust stuff so in theory it shouldn't rust

Thanks !! The owner of the dealer ship saw it stopped him cold in his tracks !! His son witch is the general manager started saying dad don't ask questions that's your Xmas present . The owner didn't look to happy, but when they said no it's a employee and he bit off more than he could chew so a few of the body guys are helping him out.
All I have to say is.
I work for a great company and my co workers really have made this a smooth process and the brownies and soda left in tool boxes will never be enough

Wow , you really have your work cut out for you ..... When are you going to start on my car ?

What your doing is a great idea for the sheet metal replacement . I thought I would have to get a donor car to get some of these areas replaced on my car , but shaping the new metal over the existing metal is a good idea . I never thought of doing that . Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm a noob with all this .

This is exactly what we are doing we used old car metal for the most part.
We used a section of the front fender, but I think it might be a toss up of just using a section of flat and cutting a arch shape and adjusting from there.
I have been lucky learning from a great collision body guy.
Some would say how we glued the sections in is cutting corners, this I am tossed I would of rather welded, but with what I have learned about fusion glue, I think it will last longer
At times we have had half the shop watching and learning .

I shaped my first part yesterday . I adjusted that thing for a half hr before I was happy, my friend on the other hand tap here and there and done every hr he puts in it is like ten of mine lol

I try and take as many pics as possible I just wish I had better writing skills

Your writing skills are fine. I worked at dealerships for a great many years and the guys in the shop had always been helpful. You have just have to help them out every now and then.

Okay really near finishing up the shell . So I started to work the wife over rebuilding the 455 so, I need some advise I have two 455 one is said to be good running condition oil still in the pan dirty but looks good the other is locked up.

So the plan was stuff the good one in and take my time rebuilding the locked up one. Now that I am getting ready to switch to drive train I am wondering if I should just build it once and be done ?? It does run currently with the 330

So sanded most of the right quarter and wow people are lazy !! Four or five dents hiding with bondo. I swear they spend more time filling and sanding then what it would of taken to just hit them out from the trunk side.

I am so glad I live in the south, we hardly ever get anything that bad. On the 455, it's a tough call on what to do. Me personally I would rather swap engines once.

This is a good one lol and I live in a said desert state just not far enough south lol

Yes, one day some one is going to be posting" look at this crappy patch work " most metal has been from the left&right front fender and some scrap doors the outter wheel well was rusted out didn't plan on that so I took the upper section of the fender to do a patch won't be pretty, but at least there won't be rust

So we had to push the old girl to the paint booth and man were those roots planted on that frame rack, my little gal of gas disappeared over the last two months.

Got some fresh gas two pumps and a jumper box she fired right up so I will be bringing it home sat.
My wife said I was like a little kid on Xmas eve waiting to open the night before present even tho it's just PJs lol

It kinda makes me sad to think of pulling that 330 it runs great a good reseal and it could go for ever

So this is a good question . I think it will depend on how much I can pull off on my motor build over the winter I am going to tear into one block and see what is needed and do a bench compression and leak down in my other block

So in the spring it will be paint or drive train not sure yet
