Hi everyone.

Slept great today. And it was a beautiful day, mid 80s not real humid. Too bad I couldn't have been out doing something.

My neighbor called and wants me to help him put front brakes on his truck. It's a 98/99 GMC. He said the pads come one shorter than the other. Never heard of that one. I thought maybe he misspoke and said front instead of back, but he said the rotors need turning. I can help him after the weekend when I'm done with work. From looking at the rest of the truck, I can only imagine what shape these brakes are going to be in.

Time to split. The truck needs gas but I think I'll take the Cadillac to work. It has a full tank. I'll wait to put gas in the truck after the weekend when maybe prices will be back down.

Have a good night everyone.

Good Evening Mawnin Folks

Didn't see a drop of the wet stuff on my journey to the EZ-Go plant in Augusta.

My office for today

After swimming in a sea of golf carts to find "my" staged allotment...

I finally got them loaded and strapped down, ready to haul them back to Purrty Perry.

Round trip took about 10 hrs including lunch, so I think I done well. Most of the unfortunate stuff happened while fueling up. 1st thing this morning I top off the diesel. The way the filler neck is attached is well fubar. It comes out flat for about 2 feet at the fill end, so when it's full it will splash diesel all over you

2nd thing wouldn't you know it, Houston Asphalt is ripping up the parking lot and I have little room to get outta the gas station. Barely smack a #$@%* bollard with the end of the trailer, luckily no damage. Jes yeller paint on the nib that holds the bar that holds the driver's side ramp up. 3rd thing I get to Macon and the boys in blue have Broadway blocked off and are re-directing traffic thru cracktown. Good thing I carry Anywho the streets are sooooooo narrow I can barely proceed with low hanging wires and tight corners. I think I took out a prostitute or a pimp with the trailer tar But no damage to any lawns, street signs or parked cars.

4th incident I was humming along GA 24 East and come up to a red light while passing an 18-wheeler. Get up almost to the red light and he decides he wants to occupy the same real estate Zo I lay on the horn and voila, he wakes up before buying my boss a shiny new F550

After that all was good going to and from Augusta, until I limped into Milledgeville on fumes and looking for a place that sells diesel. Found one and whoop it in. Well I get to looking and I cannot just pull forward after fueling. So here I am with #5. I get to back this mamma jamma back onto busy Hwy 49, by my lonesome nonetheless Den #6 I get on into Downtown Milledgeville and the boys in blue have Hwy 49 blocked off for some street party. So maneuvering this rig is fun on side streets (see #3)

So with those things out of the way I had been extremely fortunate that nothing bad happened

Work again tomorrow, since this is my Thursday. Still love my job

Now I'm tarred and will catch y'all on da flipside

Hey, gang... not mernin', but still steamin' in da' Swamp.... I still B here~! Hadn't looked in a day or two, Allan; hope your paintin' came out OK & that you live to read this.

I keep doin' chores, but da' list don't seem to be gettin' no shorter. Maybe one day -- and that'll be the day it's time to call Jamesbo and jump in da' box.

Really need rain; hot as the dickens, but not as bad as earlier in the week, and last week. Hittin' mid-90s pretty much every day.

Saints looked like a bunch of chookies last nite; thought maybe they got a fire lit, but they folded at the end, as has been their MO (with few exceptions) for almost 50 years. I should be used to it.

Anyhoots, hope all Oldsmfriends have a great weekend... Mountain air is beckoning, so lookin' forward to a jaunt soon...

Good morning everyone.

I could sum up last night in one word. Uncomfortable. Got stuck with a dumbass for a lead and he put me on an ETOPS 757. Problem was I'm not EQ on that plane so there was precious little I could do. So I stood around a lot. Then I helped a guy with a fuel problem, he had to go into the fuel tank and I stood on a ladder outside the tank plate hole so I could hear if he was in distress. That's an odd feeling, waiting for your friend to have trouble. Luckily he didn't. But standing on this precarious ladder wasn't fun. Then trying to take something apart with zero access and the wrong tools. Well, the night's over and I survived.

Looks like it's going to be another nice day. Hope I miss it. Rain is forecast for this afternoon. Hope I miss that, too.

John what is a chookie?

Friday tonight. Hope they go easy on me. Well, off to bed now. Have a good day everyone.

Rained last night around 02:00 for about an hour. Morning is still overcast, cool with a nice breeze.

Figured out how to repair 2 of my vertical trims damaged by the roofers last year. Apparently they don't make this style of 5" corner anymore which is too bad. Also have to rebuild the column by the front door. 16 years of weather have not been kind to the northwest sides.

The boy is still doing well at HD and other managers are asking him to work extra hours in their respective areas. Some big wigs from corporate were down to the store yesterday and created quite a tizzy of activity.

Ted, maybe on the island if we stay at the BIL for a few days. That's at Ladysmith. I'll let you know in a week or so. If not, heading back to AB on the 31st. My son laughed and said he wouldn't wreck the joint. I'm letting him use the Sonata. We'll take the Saturn to BC. It needs to start returning some of the mtce $ I sunk into it. Also it averages around 45mpg on the hiway and gas out here has gone stupid expensive. We pay more than you do. I think it's politics more than anything.

John, I don't need to watch the Saints to know what the def of a chookie is 2 games on tap here today in the CFL. TSN's TNF & FNF didn't disappoint - good games that were purty close with really tight defense.

Jim, you watching the U.S. Open or whatever that thing in MI is?

Clint, you may be right. Just not sure how much time and $ I want to keep plugging into that car. Things change as a body ages. I can say the memories of the past with it are fun ones. Funny, one way or another I've been working on that car since 1975. I've accumulated so many spare parts they're taking up half my shed and a goodly chunk of the utility space in the basement. Honestly I could use the space everywhere including the garage. If I had your yard I'd just build another garage to store it in to become a potential future barn find....

Scot, nice toy hauler. Sounds like you lead a charmed life on the streets! hopefully no more side road shenanigans to set you back. Does your employer give you a company CC for fuel or do you fill up in the yard before each trip? I have no idea how much that rig would use on a round trip but I'd guess only about 8 mpg? Stay safe and away from the idiot drivers out there.

I may be out of line, but I really hope you finish your car. And, if it is taking room up, my offer still stands to come and get it.........really!

Scot, cool rig but sounds like a b***h to manouver ...stay safe

Ted, that's too bad. Yeah, the project list on that car seemed do able 5 years ago, but the more time passes it's starting to be a bigger challenge. Not the same $ on a pension income. I'll keep your offer in mind. Amongst other NOS and OEM parts, I even have an NOS power window setup for 68-72 coupe downstairs. Everything from harness, relay, motors door jamb boots and Regulators. Also a 4 way power seat, 72 14" wire wheel discs, and more. I have to decide if I want to keep them or list them for sale.

I'll definite say hi to the ocean for you. Hopefully Huntsville is a nice camping trip.

Had the same problem with my 35 Massey....put it in the shade and apply clean oil to it Let sit for a couple of days. Wipe with a clean rag. Worked for me, and I tried to keep it inside when not in use....

The link dint werk si I giggled it. Is dis wutchu talking about?

HAVEN, Wis. -- John Daly was cruising along inside the cut line at the PGA Championship on Friday -- until John Daly-type things started to happen.

Playing the par-3 seventh hole, Daly pushed his tee shot right, splashing it into nearby Lake Michigan. He took a drop and again found the lake. He dropped another, and splashed that one, too.

Finally, Daly bailed out to the left side of the green, then helicopter-tossed his iron into the lake. It was soon recovered by a young man in a boat, who held it aloft triumphantly.

Hi everyone.

Another nice day and good sleep. Not much new since I didn't participate in anything today.

Ted ETOPS is Extended Twin Operations. Its when a twin engine airplane is allowed to fly a predetermined amount of time between viable airports. I think most planes it's an hour, which is more than enough in the lower 48 and Canada, but planes that go over the water will be several hours away. An ETOPS plane is maintained to a different standard and sometimes has different parts, which allows it up to 360 minutes between viable airports. Most ETOPS planes are approved for 180 minutes. "Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim." EQ means ETOPS qualified.

Okay gotta go. Spent way too much time replying to some dolt and his accusations of me being a bad person, so now I'm late getting going. Have a good night everyone.

Hi everyone.

Friday engine change with a Monday lead. And what a *****. We got the new motor hung and had a question before we could continue, lead is nowhere to be found. We ask the inspector. Gotta ask the lead he says. So we wait. Finally the lead comes around and starts yapping that we were wasting time, this shouldn't have been an issue, etc. We just stare at him. The icing on the cake though was when we went to run and the fuel control started leaking. The engine shop didn't use the right O-rings, nothing we could have done about it. Now he gets yapped at for not making the ready time.

What a great day out. Slept good this morning now I'm gonna go out and mow. I also said I'd help my neighbor with his brakes. Supposed to rain tomorrow so it all has to get done.

Guess I'll get going. The grass won't mow itself.

I wonder if my cousin was heading up security for that PGA event in Sheboygan? He oversaw the security for a PGA event there a decade or so ago, not sure if he's still involved at that level.

Dan, what?

So I was across the street watching my neighbor put brake pads on his truck. It's pointing kind of down hill with a brick -behind- the back wheel. He's got one of them little throw away floor jacks holding the truck up and he's sitting on a little stool shaking things around. He gets things all put back together and lifts the wheel up to the studs and slams it and the truck falls off the jack, pinning his arm between the tire and the fender. He gets loose, it's made a mark but no injury. So now we have to get the front of the truck up to get the wheel loose and get it on. The little jack gets retrieved and is now under the A arm. Thankfully, he gets it jacked up and I get the wheel on without further trouble. He's an okay guy but what a major dumbass! I gave up long ago trying to give him advice on how to do things a little more safely. His feeling is, it will only take me a minute. I kind of wish I hadn't gone over there, but his wife wouldn't have been able to lift that tire up and get it put back on. Sheesh.

Gonna mow now.

Wow, Mike! Sounds like a nightmare of mine.... Good thing you were there after all, even if you didn't save the day SOLO per se. BTW, I don't know how "proper" a word it is or was, but when we were kids, it was kinda' a cross b/w a chump and a rookie -- an inexperienced dufus, in other words.

Jamesbo, see PM I sent ya'.

Dan, I love hearing about all the N. MI towns you mention (e.g., Sheboygan). God's country -- at least in summer.

Finally gettin' some relief today from the hades-like temps. High here was about 86, with light showers, thank goodness. Hope it lasts fer a while.

Whelpt, hope all Oldsmofriends are having a great weekend.

My bad, Dan. Allan, funny one And funny you should post that -- last week as better half and I were rounding the pond at Ponchatoula Park during a very early morning walk (barely dawn), we saw a medium size 'gator paddling his way across the pond . First time for that -- although it's been a snake haven 'bout as long as we've been going (going on 10 yrs.). I don't think anybody should second-guess the "No Swimming" sign.

Good morning everyone.

A little rain to get us started, though the dogs don't seem to notice it. Hope it doesn't stay, the cruise in is tonight.

Today is the dogs' birthday. They are 10. Actually this is the day I got them in 2009. I was told they were 4, so I figured this was the beginning of their new life.

Well Ted that didn't take long. Hope the guy enjoys it.

Clint welcome back. Glad you had a good vacation.

Guess I'll get going before it starts to thunder. Have a good Monday everyone.

Morning
Coolish here, only 44 and calm. De iced the freezer and tHrew the ice out on the back lawn yesterday afternoon and it's still there this morning. Must be getting toward fall already.

Ted, congrats on the spontaneous? Sale of the truck. Hope you enjoyed using it while you had it. A wad o cash speaks purty loud at times doesn't it?

Clint, you'll be just fine. Welcome back. Your absence was noticed.

John, I couldn't live with mr. No shoulders as a neighbor all the time. Good to hear your temps are down a bit.

Well, dropped the Saturn off at the body shop, supposed to take eight days, we'll see. They gave me a Ford Focus for a loaner, Now I know what small car not to buy should I ever give it a consideration, it bit buzzy, and just too small.

Jamesbo tell Red thanks. My boy is Sparky and my girl is Jetta. Sparky is named after Speed Racer's mechanic, and Jetta, well it's a long story, she's sort of named after the car. Even though the picture here is 6 years old, they pretty much look the same. Sadly, so does the weird looking guy that's with them.

Dan how many miles does that Saturn have on it? I think I asked you that before. My Mom has an 08 Aura that has about 35k on it and so far it hasn't given her any trouble. There's been a couple of recalls on it but nothing serious. They usually get taken care of when she takes it in for an oil change.

Not sure what to do this afternoon. The rain has stopped but it's still cloudy. I don't want to get into something outside and have it cut short. But it's still nice out I don't want to be stuck in the house all day.

Jamesbo, my hand is raised. I've kinda' given up... just glean what I can in one pass . I'm prolly guilty of some obfuscation (a good Bill Buckley word?) from time to time -- like right now. Jes 'cause I don't know what's goin' on doesn't mean I don't like my online Olds Bretheren.

Whelpt, I have a tiller that's been sitting with caked mud in my storage building for 5 years without a single crank. I'm going to go out there and talk real nice to it before pulling the rope....

Smack 'em good, Jamesbo.

Y'all have a great Monday, Oldsmofriends.

Jamesbo I thought the same thing. Be careful John.

Went to the shop so I could have a good place to take a wheel off of the truck. I didn't want to emulate my neighbor. I was so hoping for bad brakes on the front, but they are actually pretty good. So that means the noise I'm hearing is U joint. Trouble is, they aren't U joints, they are CV joints. Low, constant squeal that you can't hear after a certain speed. Well, it made it to Ohio and back and it's going to Chattanooga tomorrow.

Also found out there is a wiring problem with my trailer. Brake and left turn are reversed. Must be the harness on the trailer because my other trailer is correct when it's plugged in. Eh, it's going to Chattanooga tomorrow, too, just as it is.

I guess we should ask Paul. He's the one who started it in the first place. So far as I can see though there's no real theme here other than just speakin out loud. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it don't. In other words son, just roll with the punches and alls good. It's what I do anyway.

Mike, the squealing noise might be worn inboard pads, or they could be vibrating? Did you put any brake quiet on the back of the pads when they were installed? Other than that I'd suspect a worn front bearing. Does the noise go away when you put the brakes on?
