The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Morning
Really cool here today. Might get up to 57 later if we're lucky. Rain forecast too.
Clint, why 700 instead of 200? I've been looking at Rotella because it has higher zinc. What weight did you use in the 56?
Jim, good one! Hope your knee is ok today.
Adrian, you find a replacement ride yet? One with cruise?

Jamesbo, you ok? Ice 'n Motrin to keep the swelling down. I was watching former Pres. Jimmy Carter on the news yesterday, addressing his cancer, and I am just impressed with his attitude, almost taking it in stride, approaching 91 years I believe, still a clear mind and quite articulate.
My 2 favorite (relatively recent) presidents were Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. They made a movie about Nixon (probably several) but the one that stands out is "Frost - Nixon Interviews". He also owned an Oldsmobile
Reagan owned Caddy's, Lincoln's and other blue oval products.
Jim - I heer suds werk fer reducing the swelling? Only prob is they might make ya fall down agin if y'all imbibe too much ov em.
Still mighty chilly here. John, Scot, Jim - you'd all be wearing parkas. Clint - nope, it would be like camping in Colorado.
Where's Darrell? Haven't heard from him for a long time....

Aft'rnoon, all. A mite damp in da' swamp today. Elsie's winnin' da' battle w/ Sol.
Jamesbo, how you B? So sorry to hear you bonked ur knee... I hope you fare as well as I did after my flight down the ladder a few months back.. .. I want a daily update.
Scot, sorry I slipped and added that extra "t" to ur name yesterday... You'd think after all these years, I'd have learnt.
BTW, I haven't seen my old buddy, Ron, since Katrina. He's prolly about 10 or more yrs. older than I am (I worked at the Chrysler dealership w/ him in '78 & '79), and I think the storm was devastating to him, as you might imagine. But he had bought a second '69 Camaro body & chassis, then put a hot-rod 4-bolt 427 w/ single Holley, w/ full-tilt TH-400 and a Dana. Painted it solid black; looked really cool. He raced it at Gulfport for quite a few years; not sure what happened to that one; I seem to recall he was in very low 11s or maybe even a 10.95 (?) on occasion in the quarter. But the black one didn't have the sentimental attachment for him that his factory-ordered silver SS did. I even remember his telling me that he persuaded the salesman to let him take delivery at the railhead in N.O. -- not even a dealership inspection! Those were the days.
Lotsa' errands this mornin'; came home, et some lunch, and relaxin' a bit. Will prolly go out to the garage and stare at the GS a while.
I keep makin' lists, but not much is gettin' crossed off...
Whelpt, tempus fugit; so have a great resto' afternoon, Oldsmofriends.

Hi everyone.
Ah, day 3 of computer problems. Coming to you now from Big D. It's Friday.
Jamesbo I'm off this weekend if you want me to come up and do stuff for you. But don't email me I can't get CO at home. No need busting your back after you've busted your knee.
John once you get going on the GS you will have visual progress and want to continue.
Well, it's the Friday engine change. Besides me, there's at least a couple other Friday guys on the plane and it's a Monday lead. And not a bright one. And they wonder why we're always so grumpy.
Okay have a good evening everyone.

Good Afternoon Mawnin Fellow Oldsmobileites
Jamesbo you gotta be more careful my friend. Hopefully it's not hurt too bad.
Dan thanks for the vette info
Never cared much for the low to the ground feel but I sure do love a C1 done up drag race gasser style.
I have an earlier pic of the '67 442 with redline tars on it so that must've been what she was born with.
John that's alright
Sure love the history and especially the racing part
Tragic about Katrina
It could happen anywhere along the coast I suppose
When we flooded from Alberto in '94, luckily we are on higher ground but were cut off from certain places. Others not three blocks down and elsewhere wasn't so fortunate.
Allan and Mike have a great time and safe travels

I really like the pinstripe and kinda wish Brit had it. But not quite enough to have it done. Edit: just relooked and saw the date on the photo's NVM.

Mernin', all....
A mite overcast today, but Elsie seems to be taking a back seat. Wasn't too bad walking in the park this morning. 'Twas 72* when we got there at Zero-Dark-30.
Whelpt, it's "patch da' holes in da' gravel driveway" day today. A big shout out to all my neighbors who steer STRAIGHT for the puddles and accelerate.
Jamesbo, glad to hear the knee is still attached. Maybe next time we can figger out a Commander McBragg story fer ya'...
And anybody who ain't tried the "look and list" method of car repair should begin immediately. Does wonders for the lower back...
Y'all enjoy ur da' day o'Saturn, Oldsmofriends.

Anutter cool (42*) start to the day. Spode warm up to around 65.
Not much on the plans today.
Scot, yer jumpin the gun son. I'm not heading out to the DR till it's really cold, like early next year when the snow and ice are prevalent. Thanks tho!
Jim, enjoy the view. Glad to hear the leg is getting better. I'm good witchu sayin ya fell of yer thoroughbred.
Friend is coming over later maybe to maybe buy a part out of my collection. Haven't seen him for awhile. He's replacing his front bumper on his 71 SX. Really nice car in Sienna.

Hi everyone.
Look at me, I've got a new computer! So nice to be in my own house, looking at this whenever I want. Went to the library this morning before I hit the store and it was closed. Brilliant. The library is closed on Saturday.
A couple oddities I need to get past. One is there's no icon to get my email. No clue on how to do that, either. I will have to put in another call to my friend the rocket scientist. He is my technical advisor.
Jamesbo I'm glad you're on the mend. I'm very good at staring and listing.
John when I was little I always wanted my Dad to drive through holes and puddles. He'd never do it. Now, as someone who values his car, I understand why Dad never did it. If you used cold patch in the pot holes, eventually the whole road would be paved.
So last night the engine change plane was needed back out and we ended up working on a plane that had fuel migration issues. There were several other things to do so about six of us did those, and the fuel expert worked on the migration. It was originally written up as an inop fuel display. Well the display was doing exactly what it was supposed to do, indicating fuel levels.
Went to a big car show at Summit today. I'd say about 300 cars, but only one Oldsmobile. A couple of hot rods, lots of Camaros and Mustangs, some nice looking cars.
Okay gotta finish setting this thing up. I'm sure it will be a few days before I figure out everything that the old machine has that this one needs. Joy.

Good morning everyone.
Seems a little hazy today. Not sure what it's going to do, but I hope whatever it is it waits until I'm home from the junkyard.
Jamesbo I'm not one to keep up with the latest in techno jibberish. My old computer was only 3 years old and I wouldn't have gotten another one except it stopped connecting to the internet. This new computer, every time I choose Classic Olds it gives me a warning and asks what I want to do. One of the choices is continue to website(not recommended). I hope I can figure out how to bypass the warning.
Scot do you have a picture or the info from the 67 that gives the build date? I'd love to have a car that was build the day I was born. Without paperwork the closest I could get would be 06C.
I hope I always keep seeing posts from Sandy.
Time for the Awful house and then the aforementioned junkyard. Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Morning, some O.T. on a Sunday, been awhile since I done that. We have some rain coming through later, followed by a cold front with temps in the 70's for highs this week. Went to a car show in Greenville, Mi. yesterday, they had 115 cars, seven of them were Olds, of which four were 442's. My buddy got a plaque, best in class. "Debated" with an Olds owner about what was correct on my buddy's '68, by someone who was clueless, and whose own Olds was more aftermarket than stock.
Oy.
Taking a break from the dramatic picking up of a broke pick up. My friend Johnboy has run his truck into the ground, and when he started having real trouble with it I said I'd give him 500 for it, just to get him out of it. It's worth scrap, which is about 1/3 of that. Fast forward to last week, he asks if my offer still stands. This after he's torn up the 4 wheel drive, had a few parts stolen off it, etc. He owes me money anyway and I said I'll give you 350 and we're square. Well that wasn't good enough so he was going to sell it to someone else. That someone else took half the mounting of the rear axle apart and ran the back wheel into the bottom corner of the bed, bending the heck out of it. So now we are back to me. Johnboy is my charity case otherwise I would have told him to pound sand long ago. He assured me if we put a good battery in it it will fire right up. Nope. In the midst of him trying to put a new driveshaft in, it starts pouring rain, so I get in my truck and he's out there working with water gushing over him because the parking lot we're in is sloped. Now we are down to getting a come along and winching it up on the trailer. Guess what, he's doing it.
So he says, can I buy it back from you in a couple months? Hehe. No it's going to be cut up and long gone in a couple months. The only thing I really wanted was the bed. It isn't too badly banged up and it doesn't have rust. But now it has a bent up rear wheel well. I always come out on the short end of the stick with this guy. I guess I keep doing it because I'm friends with his Mom and I don't want her to feel bad. Though I can feel myself reaching the limit.
So it started raining as soon as I walked out the door this morning, and rained all morning. This afternoon the sun came out but I didn't go to the junkyard because I didn't want to go and come back, only to turn around and leave again. Makes the dogs unhappy. So I lolly gagged in the basement and got a few things put away.
Dan you sound like when people argue Corvairs with me. Funny how people who have never heard of a Corvair until they see mine, somehow know that Nader caused the car to go out of production, the engines seriously leaked oil, and they flip over every time you drive.
Okay I've had something to eat so I'm going back to pick up Johnboy. We'll take the come along and hopefully we won't jam the back wheel into the bed any more than it is. I might be able to straighten it out somewhat and still get a few dollars for it. Hey, I have to recoup my "investment."
Okay have a good night everyone.

Mornin all.
Mike, sounds like maybe its time to cut your losses.
Jamesbo my medical advice is to soak the knee with rotten potatoes from the inside.
Scot. That sounds right. Just wasn't sure if whites were available too.
Allan, The 700 is more available (and easier to build stronger than the 200) for a chevy smallblock. We put 15W40 in it. That what I run in Brit as well.
Have a day all.

A mite wet but I'm gonna go smack Whitey and see if de knee hows up.
If not, I'll follow Dr Clint's sage medical advice.
Mike, I think it's time you culled your herd of acquaintances. You got enough mechanical werk on your hands as it is.

Good morning everyone.
Nice day shaping up, back into the 90s. Gonna try again for the junkyard.
Finally got that truck up on the trailer with a come along. Just left the whole thing sit over at the shop and brought the van home. Got home just before 11.
That bearing noise in the front of the truck is getting louder and doesn't go away now. I'm going to ask the guy across the street from the shop what he'd charge me to fix it. I don't even know what to expect, do you rebuild CV joints or just replace them?
Clint I think you're right. It's hard to turn your back on someone you've known for a long time, though. Jamesbo at the rate he's going, I won't have to worry about it.
Okay gonna get moving. Last day off, lots to do. Have a good Monday everyone.

Beautiful morning here and nice day shaping up.
Sonata sounded like a tractor starting so I shut it off. Started it again and it ran a bit better but rpms wouldn't exceed 1500 (limp mode) and it threw up a check engine light. Shut it off and started it again and it ran normal. I hooked up ny OBDII and downloaded code P161B so I looked it up. Says the torque range of the engine was exceeded. Huh??? Also said the surge tank valve may have stuck in the open position and flooded the engine ( more likely). I cleared the fault and so far it's all been running fine.strange, I called Northstar and one of their techs (not a service advisor) said he's never seen that code before.
Clint, sounds good. I heard the sun gear assembly was a major upgrade on the 700 from the 200. Since I put 10/30 in the Saturn it's not showing drips of oil anymore. That's different. I'll have to put it back to 5/30 for winter though.
Mike. You can do either if you can get a cv rebuild kit for it. Either way the cv joint has to come off to do it.Your call.
Jim, you good enough to whack whitey today? Be careful and don't blow up the knee. Do some warm ups first to test whether it'll hold the pivot on your swing. Good luck and hope your game goes well even if it's a wet one.
Scot, you back on the road?
Dan, your buddy's 68 442 pics I saw looked great! Although I'm not a huge fan of green interiors his has survived incredibly well, especially the steering wheel and dash trim under the ignition. That kind of discussion happens a lot at car shows. Sometimes it's just easier to walk away and ignore ignorance.
First time I've made coffe in months so ...... Enjoy your day.

Allan, he did have the front seats recovered about 10 years ago, just because the sun had faded them so much, other than that the interior is stock, 'cept for the aftermarket radio. He had it repainted roughly 12-15 years ago, but as it was a Georgia car, it was pretty clean. he bought it at Homecoming back in 1996, or I should say after talking to the owner there, who had it in the car corral, he made the deal with in a couple of weeks. This is the smart thing that everyone talks about, buy one done or very clean and solid to start, makes it much easier to maintain and restore, and saves a ton of money...something that I should have done. He actually looked at my car first, but with the Michigan winters on it, knew that it would be a project, and he was really torn as he (and myself) did not want a W31 to slip away.
Hi everyone.
Just got home from Summit cruise in. One Oldsmobile, a 68 442 convertible. Saw it drive in, but the driver didn't stay by the car and I didn't see him again. He left the top up which seemed odd since it was convertible night and everyone else had their tops down.
Talked to my neighbor today and asked him about my truck. He said it was an easy job and he could do it in a day. I said I'd drop it off next week. The Freon that my friend's friend is getting for me should be in this week, so the Cadillac will have air conditioning again.
Gotta stay up really late so I can sleep in tomorrow. Work. It can really be an inconvenience.
Time for Charlie's Angels. At first I was excited to see it on TV, but now that it's gone through the series a couple times, I'm really not interested as much in the ones that don't have Farrah Fawcett.
Have a good evening everyone.

Allan, We like to share on dis thread
Well, Played like a goat yesterday. As I get older I am playing worse and worse
Mike, I have bearing go out in de past and trust me it's something ya don't want to happen when your driving.
IMHO "the market correction" won't have much to do wit muscle car pricing. I think when we old pharts quit wanting our high school toys dats de end
I mean who wantts a model A any more?
Have a great day Olds friends

Mornin all.
Congrats Allan. Well the Goat showed up just before closing last night. I'll start ripping on it this morning.
Sorry you gotta go back to the work thing Mike.
Dan, I'm curious if this will be the big one. Looks like it started to recover yesterday. I think it needs to drop another 5-600 points before it's where it really should be. We are in for a rude awakening if it truly 'Corrects'.
Have a Tuesday all.

K, I'm back with a fresh coffee.
'Twas still dark earlier. Any of you notice how quick it's getting to dusk quicker and taking longer to dawn in the mawnin? Cooler overnight too, only 55 here right now.
My friend came over yesterday and picked up my spare NOS stone shield. His SX is going to look much nicer with it and the new front bumper. He got some Code 62 Bittersweet put into a rattle can at CMAX. I tested it on his old SS and it looks really good. By now he should have it prepped for paint. I'll call him later and see if he's ok on his own or wants someone to watch him. Either way it's going to be such a huge improvement over the old one. He also spent a ton of time restoring and detailing the CS grills he bought off eBay. Can't wait to see how they finally turned out.
Clint, WTH? You're gonna rip into Jim? Ah, different goat...
Jim, sometimes if ya try too hard? Mebbe just chillax and let de club do de bleating. One of the best games I ever played was when I just relaxed and played one shot at a time with no pressure. Not that I got a great score but I sure enjoyed the game. Came away from it with memories of many nice t shots, great chips and some ugly puts...
Mike, did you get the noise isolated yet? Is it the CV joint?
Dan, whatever happens to the adjustment is definitely going to,affect me for sure. I think it will take awhile but for now I think the smart money is to hunker down and weather the storm instead of panic selling my stocks. Everything happens in cycles. Analysts are saying the reason for the fall yesterday was from rookie investors who had programmed auto sell when their stocks got to certain price points. That's why the exchanges were seeing those sudden drops so quickly. It was mostly computer driven. Can you imagine what it would be like if puters became sentient and started messing with us just for giggles?
Ted, where are ya bud?
Darrell, ditto.....
Adrian, we got your winter here now. Just need some moisture.

Nice to see that the site remembered me today, as last night I had to log on and check the remember me square twice. As I don't log off of this site, I assume that it is part of the ongoing quirks from the last week or so.
Hmm, the site logged me off too. I don't mind though cause I usually just close my browser and leave myself logged in to make it easier to get in the next visit. That's why the little dot under my name is always 'green'. Even when I'm not on the site
Hi everyone.
Slept good this morning. Got up around 6 for the dogs and it was about 60. I don't like that so early in the year. Right now its sunny and right at 80. A beautiful day.
I had thought about calling in today, just so I'd have an extra day to do stuff, but I'm running dangerously thin on time off, so I'll just wait until next week when I have an extra day anyway.
Oh didn't make the junkyard yesterday, again. Stayed at the Awful house talking for over three hours, then decided I better get home to the dogs and get going on the other stuff. Sheesh. Next week for sure.
Got a little bit of time before I need to start getting ready for work. Wonder what I can get into.

Hi again.
Question. Does anyone remember from a couple years ago the name of the adware that turns random words blue, as links to ads? I put that name into my old computer to stop that and the new computer needs the same thing, and I can't find it in a search.
Well time for work. Have no clue what's in store, hope it isn't too dreadful. The work I can handle, it's the tyrants in the office I have a hard time with. Have a good night everyone.

Mornin all.
Yup I got kicked to the curb the past couple days on here too. I think it must be some updates and maintenance on the site. It seems to be working better and I don't have any hyperlinked words which makes me wonder if it needs flash to work?
Allan, Its hot here again but the nights are cooling off. About 33C during the day but getting down to 13C at night. It's been great getting the house cooled off in the morning so its not a scorcher in here when we get home.
Well I don't think it's raining people on wall st. yet. but I'd sure hate to have to rely on my 401K at this point.
Jamesbo, I don't want a model A and I already have one. I'd like to turn it into a 2nd gen Camaro or Firebird for the missus. wish I still had my 81. Funny, I hated that car when I had it. I have dreams with that car in it occasionally. Not necessarily happy ones.
What year did the back window wrap around the corner on the B pillar?
Have a Humpday all.

Good morning everyone.
Got fairly chilly last night. Then I come home to see it's 59* on the back porch. I don't care for that.
Jamesbo I haven't been to the dentist since I've lived here. I'll stick with the Awful house.
I'm beat. Time to hit the sack. Have a good day everyone.

Morning
Lots of smoke in the air from fires in western U.S. Yesterday got up to almost 80 but today looks like we'll be lucky to hit 70.
Been working on rebuilding the column on the front porch and the attached railing. Sheesh, S4S lumber is either non existent or priced like platinum. Hopefully I'll get it finished today. Spent an hour at the paint store getting Sandcastle color stain. They had to custom mix it from the sample I brought. Contrast color is a beautiful shade of ivy.
I just looked at the weather for Vancouver. Great, it's going to rain all the time were there.
Gas prices are slowly coming back down. I think the oil companies are very reluctant to give anything back although they're quick to grab. The pump price in BC is a good .20 - .30/ L higher than it is here. It's just crazy the price we pay.
Clint, you have quite the temp swings going on there. How's the goat rebuild going? I remember the first modern car with Full wrap around rear window was the 77 Toronado XS. If memory serves I think 75 is the year Firebird and Camaro went to that wrap around.
Jim, good luck at the dentist. Are they drilling for oil, gold or just $$$$?
John, I guess I'll be doing your painter routine today. I think I'll prestain the wood so I only have to do small touch ups when it's all assembled. Less messy too.
Ok, that's about it. Enjoy your day.

Well, I got the Saturn back this morn. not looking too shabby, good to be back in my car, much more comfortable, and it can get out of it's own way. Well, they say that gas prices are coming down around here as the refinery is supposed to be running at some capacity again, but I paid $2.78 gal yesterday, supposed to drop to $2.00 gallon by Christmas...we'll see.
