Scot, this is exactly what I was puzzled by too. That's why I asked Mike if he could post pics of his sedan and VC so we can see what he's teasing us with.

I also wondered if the VIN was getting mixed up with the Cowl, but I think Mike knows the difference between those. Guess we'll have to wait and see the answer tomorrow.

Mike - FWIW, the VC's came down the same assembly lines as Cutlass, Delta's, Ninety Eights and Toros when Lansing was an operating facility back in 1970.

Hmm, someone also sent me an email this morning about not being able to log in. It was ok when I checked. Must be all this rarified northern air...

LOL - that's why they put them by sidewalks Scot - to keep you from getting on the road where you'll do more damage..

Yeah I tried for about 30 mins around 7ish this am to no avail.

Riding on the sidewalk is the only way I can tell I'm getting closer to town Al.

Hi everyone.

I'll also say I tried to log in when I got home from work this morning and got jack. In fact now the drop down address that usually says classicoldsmobile now says database error. Hm.

Slept pretty good today. Got home late because as I was walking out a fellow I don't usually see wanted to talk cars and of course I can't pass that up. Tonight is Friday so I hope I can get out a little early. Or a lot.

Allan I'll take pictures of the data plates tomorrow. Although, neither one of them have anything on them, which is odd. They both have AC but it isn't denoted. I would think that would be something Fisher would have to worry about. By the way the reason I asked if the wagons maybe weren't Fisher is because I don't believe the pickup trucks or Suburbans are Fisher Body. Also, it seems to me Oldsmobile and likely the others had wagon bodies furnished by some outside company up through the 60s. Once upon a time the door sills on a Cadillac said Body by Fleetwood. Now they say Body by Fisher, Interior by Fleetwood. I've seen old cars that were actually built by (the real) Fisher Body. Even the wood on the bottom of the floors is furniture grade. Just stunning and most of it painted black.

Not much going on in the Greater Stockbridge Area. Nice out today, hope it lasts for my days off.

Time to head off. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Mike, the data plate (aka Cowl tags) won't have all the options that are on the car. In the early 60's it was common for the data plate to have 5 'columns' and each of them would have a letter that denoted an option. Most of the late 60's and 70's cars don't have more than the basic information on the tag. But they all have:
Model Year - denoted by the prefix ST -
Model and body style
Fisher Production Works Plant
Body number that was assigned by that specific plant
PNT code
TRM code
Time/build code.

As you know the cowl tags are completely independent of the VIN, which was assigned once the body got to the Assembly line. Maybe the exception to bodies was Cadillac in the early days, but as far as I know every other division GM had back then got their bodies from Fisher - even the Chev/GMC truck lines.

Here's a good example of the Ohio Fisher Body plant back in 1923.

And another one with an 'unknown' date, but judging from the design and split front windows I'd be guessing 1940's

Oldsmobile, (Fiesta Wagons, Woodies) and a few others, had their wagons built at Ionia Body in Michigan, but I believe that ended in 1963, for GM at least.

Good evening everyone.

I had a great day today. Went to the first car show of the season I've attended that I was NOT volunteering at. I got to just sit back and relax. It was a nice sunny day with clouds on and off with a nice breeze as well.

It was also the first show I've taken the Cutlass to since I started all the work on it last fall. Well turns out I must of done something right since I won a top 30 award at the show today! That didn't take long.

Still working out a few bugs with the car. The exhaust is rattling against some sheetmetal behind the rear wheel on one side and the tip is no longer centered in the bumper cutout... but I can still drive it!

Mike, nice looking Vista Cruiser you've acquired. I've been known to use the drive in rain car wash method myself with the Mustang, as long as it is a good rain.

Allan, I'm trying to figure out the geometry of how the SportTrak hit the bollard to end up in that position.

I didn't even try logging in this morning. Was an early morning for the car show.

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Paul, the way I see it the Sport trac was travelling from left to right at a goodly clip, as some drivers in parking lots do so annoyingly. Note the wheels are turned to the left slightly as if someone in the truck was distracted to the left and turned the wheel as they rubbernecked. POW! Head on into the bollard and with pivotal rotation the truck is spun 180° and bounces slightly off. There is some silver paint on the side of the building that would suggest the blocks acted as containment to spin the truck to its final resting point. There is building damage behind the truck that is not seen in this picture.

Bollard - 1
Sport Trac - 0

Good morning everyone.

Not a bad night at work, if you don't mind working with people you have no respect for. Eh, I'm outa there for three days.

Allan my take on things was that the Fisher body plate gave the options that Fisher needed to mess with. Like drilling holes and attaching trim.

I kinda think that picture looks staged. There's no yellow paint on the car.

Plenty to do today. Hope the weather holds out. Gonna sleep a little this morning then get to it. Hope everyone has a good day.

Sunny Sunday everyone!

Time to go out and water stuff. I notice a lot of folks don't and then they complain their grass n plants die on them. We're not used to this continous hot weather.

Mike - the cowl tags are a crap shoot. Some cars list lots of options there, others list nothing. The build sheet was the ultimate go to for the car. Unfortunate that Lansing was so dedicated to removing them at the end of the line. Fisher was responsible to build the body, paint it, install vinyl roofs, and also complete the interiors/glass etc. Their work minimized the time the car was on the Lansing Assembly line.

Hi everybody.

Well, didn't get to the list of chores I had planned to. Of course when do I ever. Slept till about 130, went to get something to eat then Walmart.

Try as I might, I just could not get clear pictures of the data plates on the cars. The factory wasn't very accommodating by putting them under the hood hinge. Oddly enough, neither car has any option codes on the plates, they are blank save for the regular stuff. By the way, the wagon's trim is 309 and the sedan's trim is Z922. Oh that dreaded Z.

Nice here, about 90. So Jamesbo, since you didn't blow yourself up, did you get the dent out of the Silverado? If your method worked you can come try your hand at the hundreds of hail dents in the hood and roof of my Silverado.

After studying that picture way longer than I should have, it looks possible that the SportTrac could have come from the right side of the picture, on the sidewalk, and then turned left into the bollard, then bouncing back. You can see some disrupted bricks behind the truck. That doesn't explain the silver paint on the left side of the building, or the lack of yellow paint on the truck. How fast would he have had to be going to make that horseshoe?

Well I'll try to make something of what's left of the day. Hope everyone has a good evening and good start to their week.

Evening All

Haven't had a chance to get on here all weekend! Muggy as hell here today, temp at 91* and rain on and off all day. I stayed in the house and cleaned. Got the spare room closet cleaned out some. Schleped a bunch of stuff out to the upstairs in the garage. Went through a ton of old paperwork and shredded a lot of it.

Dude is not doing well. He's been looking rough since before Nicole took him for his shots weeks ago, and he's hardly eating and laying around a lot. He's shedding like crazy and his hair is very coarse. I think his kidneys are failing. That's how my one cat got when his kidneys failed and I had him put to sleep. I've just been crying all day. He doesn't follow me around anymore or get up and come to me or even go after the chipmunks out here like he was doing. He didn't even come out to the garage like he usually does when I went out there earlier. My heart is breaking. I really don't need this to happen this year too. He's my only companion and my friend. I've cried on him and talked to him and told him so much through the years. He's the only one who loves me unconditionally. He doesn't talk back or criticize me, he just accepts me and everything I tell him, and purrs. I just can't imagine being without him. I really need him to be here when I come home from having my surgeries, but I don't think that will happen. Larry won't let me get another cat, I'm sure. I'm lucky I was allowed to keep him when he came around!

I'm not taking him to the vet. I might have Nicole take him for bloodwork, but I really don't want her to cause he gets so stressed. If he's gonna die, I just want him to die here without the last thing that he feels in his life being the pain of a needle. God, I'm sooooo depressed. Just one thing after another and nothing good in between.

I went and saw Rehmus for my 3 month check up on Friday. She didn't take blood, which surprised me. She sure did 20 years ago! She said it wasn't necessary. She said "I thought you were getting your breasts removed?" I told her I am.... Akron can't get me in until October. So I'm going with the Cleveland Clinic. I don't think she liked that. I told her the breast surgeon at the clinic wants me to have a mammogram and she said "I don't see what good that is going to do." She had an attitude. She kept asking if I was taking the hormone blocker pill and I kept telling her yes. I hope those 4 chemo treatments did the job, with me still having the breasts 3 months later! She has me worried now, the way she kept asking. She said my funky looking fingernails aren't going to fall off.... they look like they do because they are 'growing out from the taxotere damage'. Could have fooled me! Said they actually look good, thanks to the ice they used. She was 45 minutes late for my appt. cause some poor soul next door at the treatment center had an allergic reaction to their first dose of taxotere as they were getting it. I said a prayer for them. I was so afraid that would happen to me. She called it 'an intense situation'. I'm sure.

Well a$$hole Brian will be back to work tomorrow. Man it was so nice without him there! Those were the fastest 2 weeks of the whole year! I'm going to pick some lilies and take in with me tomorrow, so he can complain about the place smelling like a funeral parlor, as he usually does. The deer have eaten most of my lily buds, so I'm going to enjoy the ones I have, and the hell with him!!!

The weather was just on. She said how 'below' normal our temps have been this year, seeing as it's only going to be around 70 on Tuesday. At least it looks like no rain for a few days after Tuesday. I can't imagine! Saturday was nice. Just starting to get humid again but it was breezy and 93*. At least we made one show and won! I ran her AC coming home. Last year we were to 27 shows. This year so far we've been to 5, and July is on the down side . Teepo isn't even going to have 500 miles on her this year. It sucks. I've been thinking of selling her. Went to Bellacinos last Thursday in Tincanio cause it looked like it was going to pour at any time. Monday's and Wednesday's cruise in's were rained out. Might as well be friggin winter around here. I laid on this couch all winter, sick and in pain, and just praying for warm weather to get here so I could get out with my car, and it rains all summer. Go figure. I just give up.

Well you all have a nice evening.

Mawn'in all

Hot wit afternoon showers expected. Whitey awaits

Mike, Since de bollard dent is so close to de gas tank neck on de side of de Cheby, I had a flash of sanity and thunked twice about using a heat gun. My body hammers are at de lake and I may or may not have room to get behind de exterior panel to give it a few whacks.

Sandy,Sorry to hear about Dude.Sure hope he recovers soon.

Have a great week Olds friends

Evening all, been far to long since I've been on here. I will have to catch up on all the posts.

A lot has been going on around here. The weather has turned cold finally which I am sure you all know. Out the back of the house there was a big dirt pile that has finally been removed so I can just mow it without the worry of rolling the mower. Visited Tinks grandparents in Stanthorpe just this weekend, Stanthorpe is the coldest place in QLD because of the elevation so we had -7 on the first night and -5 on the second, loved it. Also I had my first official hunting trip and I got myself a red deer which tastes lovely.

I have also had to take the Olds off the road as we are unable to pay to keep it registered which I am not happy about but when you have to pay insurance and rego which is close to 1500 a year together that is too much at the moment

A guy at work took me out hunting and I got this stag on my very first hunt. (see pic) had a great time and can't wait to do it again.

Back to work tomorrow as I took friday and monday off so I better get to bed. I will have to try and keep up to date with what's going on around here.

Good morning everyone

Nice here but it smells like antifreeze outside. Odd. If it's going to rain I best get moving so I can do a couple things outside.

Sandy sorry about Dude. Maybe he's laying low around the cameras. You selling Teepo? I don't see that happening. Just go sit in her for awhile, you don't even have to go anywhere.

Clint my friends have been bugging me to go out for a visit. I tell them it will have to be next year because you guys can get snow now at any time. They don't think that's very funny. Actually I was thinking about a September visit. Anything going on out that way in September? When does the Frontline airport have its annual shindig?

Jamesbo once upon a time the quarter panels on trucks unbolted. How convenient would that be for repairs these days?

Adrian that looks like a lot of good eatin' right there. One time someone gave my Mom some venison and she made it into Hamburger Helper. As my sister shoveled it in like there was no tomorrow she was lamenting on how cruel it was to shoot animals for food and she'd never, ever eat a deer. I almost choked I was laughing so hard. Of course she's always up for a good burger so who knows.

Darrell sounds like an excellent time. I would love to go on a car show tour around the country. Maybe when I win a million.

Okay off to the Awful house. Then to the pound so I can see if Animal Control picked up those puppies. I don't see a lot of sense in paying 80 bucks to get them out of the kennel only to hand them over to someone who's going to hike them off to be given away(actually not given) to someone else. Well, it saves their lives, again.

Have a good day all.

Dienstag everyone.
Cut/paste hot sunny and clear. Highs around 83. Good thing is it's most dry heat.

Jim - Glad you dint blow up. How bout a pic of de damage?

Clint - I know what you mean on both counts. How did Tori do at the races?

Mike - Good luck finding those pups.

Adrian - Saw that beauty on FB when you bagged it. Nice that you'll have a good supply of meat for some time to come. Sorry to hear about the Olds, but priorities are important. I also don't mind the 'cool' weather. -5 isn't that bad especially if there's no wind.

Darrell - Welcome back. Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip and car shows!

Sandy - What is motivating you to sell Teepo? I thought that car and you were inseparable?

Well, time to go do some watering.

Okay so I took out the back seat of the wagon, and as suspected, found the broadcast card hogringed to the bottom. It's in very good shape. I don't think the seat has been out since it was put in at the factory.

The car was built on January 5. The first box (seq) says 267, so was this the 267th car of the day? PLT OPT 16 box has A01. The only other box I don't understand is the triangle box PP has a 2 in it.

Second line, box 3 has B39, box 8 has C60(which I know is AC), box 9 has U80, which I think is AM radio. The rest of the boxes have nothing.

I also figured out the mystery behind the build date. Some of the sealant they used to cover the data plate rivets ran over the date and it's actually 12D, not 2D. So it's rather plausible that the body was started at Fisher right before New Years, and the vehicle completed by Oldsmobile January 5. The blue sticker on the drivers door also says 1-70, but the VIN has an extra 2 and it's also in regular typewriter font, not the weird looking font of others. So I'm guessing here the door was replaced and a new sticker made up at the body shop and someone goofed.

Allan are you sure code 63 is copper? The paint under the carpet and inside the door jambs is gold all day long. Of course, my 57 Chev is copper and the name of the color is Sierra Gold, so who knows. I also found a scrap of headliner under the carpet, and a penny dated 1975.

A simple search on the internet revealed the name of the original owner's son and his address and phone number. A little scarey. The dad died in 1995 and the son sold the car in 2009. I want to call him and ask him about the car but I don't want to sound creepy. How cool would it be if he had the window sticker or a contract and the Protecto Plate.

So that's what I've been doing instead of what I was supposed to. Eh, it isn't raining yet.

Mike - the 63 is the code for copper. Maybe look a little more closely and see if it's not code 53 which is nugget gold.
B39 - Carpeted Load floor
U80 - Rear speaker option for radio
A01 - Tinted glass all windows
seq 267 - yes, what you thought.
2- LOL, no one I know has been able to tell us what that means.
Good to see you figured out the mystery of the 2D/12D - that makes way more sense.

Now go see if it's leaking coolant. That could be the antifreeze smell you were talking about earlier. Don't want that stuff on the ground for any pups to lap up? Did you find the 2 little ones at the pound?

Looks like Graeme and I need to take his laptop in for service. One of the cooling fans went TU and the internet connection has failed.....

Can hardly wait till next week. I'll be getting a referral to a cardiologist to deal with some extremely high readings on BP and HR. So it comes down to pills in the long run? Interesting, but I look forward to it. I always thought old people were less likely to have these issues but, WTH do I know about it?

Nope no puppies. Someone must have picked them up and kept them. It's heartbreaking going to the pound and seeing all those sad dogs wanting someone to love. I'd bring them all home if I could.

The antifreeze smell was in the back this morning and the car is in the front. It didn't last long. Thanks for the decode Allan. I'll have to go find the rear speaker now. Admittedly, I haven't been in the back yet. Haven't even had the back window down or the gate open. Why would it have the step in the bumper if it isn't a rear seat model?

You're welcome Mike. Not a wagon expert but I'll bet that step was used to also help with loading the roof rack?

Sorry to hear the pups weren't at the shelter. Hopefully they went to a good home. I hear ya on not wanting to look at those sad eyes. It's a tough to turn around knowing full well they're watching you go.

Mornin all.

Allan, The race on Sunday was cancelled due to the possibility of flash flooding. So I tore the bent frame out of my kwad. Hope the Heart doc gets you straightened out. I'm glad my BP and HR are on the low side thats what keeps my doc off my back about my cholesterol.

Mike. Sounds like you are having a good time with the VC. Sorry about the pups. Hopefully they are living it up in a family with some small kids to keep them busy. I looked on the schedule for the airport and didn't see anything in the works. Looked up the airshow and it looks like the latter half of August. http://www.cosportaviation.org/

WB Darrell.

Jamesbo. Didja get all the painting done? (I know silly question.)

Well, I drained the Hot tub for the last time this weekend. I need to get that thing out of here before it freezes. Then I'll need to Figure out hoe to get the hole in the deck plugged up.

Have a Tuesday all.

Good morning everyone.

Got some pretty good rain yesterday afternoon but it was clear in McDonough so I went to the Summit cruise in. Not much to write home about, but a car show nonetheless. Not sure if it's going to rain today, it was supposed to all day but so far it's nice.

Clint you're doing away with your hot tub? Man, if I had a hot tub I'd never leave the house. Maybe Allan will come rebuild your deck when he's done with his.

Not much else going on. Guess I'll get to the Awful house and see what's what. Enjoy your day everyone.

Mardi, just not Mardi-gras I guess. Supposed to be around the low 90s today. Probably the kind of weather Sandy likes - hot and dry.

Clint - I wouldn't mind a hot tub, but they sound like a lot of maintenance. Have fun tearing down the quad. You have an alignment jig to square it bac up? Any nibbles or tire kickers on the Caddy?

Mike - No rain here till at least Thursday or Friday.

Jim - How was whitey treatin ya yesterday? You gonna have de dent pulled so you can prime/paint it yourself, or just leave it be? I bermemder Dad had a good crease in the quarter of our 67 put there by some yahoo who left the scene an never got caught. I drove it that way for close to 3 years before it got fixed. Didn't make me a better or worse driver whilst it was there, just it was ugly to look at.

Nice and quiet here. Time to go water stuff.

Jamesbo was all that a laundry commercial?

Scot I got the little Amphi's today. Thanks a lot! Give me the rest of the particulars and I'll get it right out to you.

Just got back from the Ford place. I bought the Mustang at night when the service people had gone home, so this was the first chance I had to take it back and get it cleaned up real nice. I asked my salesman if he could find me a copy of the MSO and he looked at me like I was stupid. I like stuff like that. How many people who own W30 convertibles would love to have that little item to add to the package?

The rain is promised but until it gets here I think I'll mow. Nice out now.

Afternoon All!

Cooler outside now and the humidity is gone!!! It was muggy yesterday and this morning but the cold front has come through. They were showing how we were in the high 90's this week last year and how far below normal the temps have been. Only 68* or so tomorrow for mid July. Too humid last night for me to go to the Riverfront.

I go on the 28th to have some breathing tests done. I know they'll blame it on my former smoking, say I have COPD and send me home with yet another pill, lol. They love pills and drugs! Rehmus already asked me Friday if I used to smoke. Said yep and you lectured me each month. So I'm sure they'll chalk it up to damage from smoking. She wants a chest x ray again too.

Sooooo... I have a surgery date at the Cleveland clinic! They called yesterday. Sept. 3rd. Got to have tests done in August before the surgery that she's trying to coordinate on one day. He wants a CT scan to locate the blood vessels he will be using, then pre op testing that I don't know what's involved yet, then a visit with him. I do have a ton more questions for him! So now I can call Akron and cancel what they have set up for me. I feel better going to the clinic. Wish I didn't have to do it at all though ....

So now I have to get Steve to sign the FMLA paperwork again and have the plastic surgeon fill it out. I only have 19 total paid days of everything left for the year, so I'm going to be off pay for quite a while. And I don't know how soon I'll get a check when I come back. 6 weeks off is mid October, 8 weeks is the end of October. I have to have pay for them to take my medical ins and dental ins out of twice a month. So I'll have to get with the payroll lady and see if she can use those 19 days so that will be covered. Maybe the owner will work with me too. Ill send him an email once I talk with her and see.

Yes the control freak is back. Had my fan on 2 yesterday and sure as shi* when I came in from my noon walk he had turned it down. Figured he would. Clay said he'll quit if they make Brian manager when Steve retires in a year and a half. Said be won't work for the sneaky *****, lol. I would think they'd make Clay manager since he's been here much longer but who knows. Strange things happen. Brian has said he'd quit if Clay is manager.....

Nicole is going to take Dude to doc on Thursday. I'm so worried about him. I hate to send him over there and get him all stressed.

I talked to Dane, Lins ex up in Michigan last night. He's getting chemo again right now. Said his cancer has come back 3 times! He has multiple mylenoma. It's bone and blood or something. I felt bad. Add another name to my list of prayers for everyone I know with cancer. It's so depressing. Guess Homer is having it rough down in Houston. He has some kind of chemo pump. I don't understand it.

I made an appt with Dr. Bressi for blood work that Rehmus didn't do.

AllanR.... I thought they had your bp and such under control already? No? Didn't they put you on a beta blocker? I remember talking about it.

Have to do our shopping tonight. I think it works out better then on Friday nights.

Alright, well you all have a good afternoon.

Sandy, just keep hanging in there. Mike, nothing wrong with wanting the MSO, but car salesmen ain't car people, all that they care about is the sale. I still have all of the documentation for my '84 Grand National, posted on a couple a Buick sites, a year or two ago, trying to see if I could locate the current owner (if the car is still out there), to get the paperwork to them...no luck.

Mornin all.

Sandy stay warm. Sounds like someone forgot to pay the AGW bill.

Mike/Allan We've had that tub for around 17 years. It was nice, but the way life is now even if it did work we never had the time to enjoy it. We only have about 2 hours from the time we get home until bedtime. We have critters to feed, then come in and eat then we'd have to take a shower so we could go sit in the tub, then get out and take a shower then go to bed. Just wasn't worth it. and besides I've been waiting on a control panel for it thats been on back order for over 2 years. Good riddance.

Jamesbo, They are right it does raise the BP. Mines gone up noticeably just typing about it.

Dan, I always wanted a GN. thought that would be a perfect cross country driver. what kind of mileage did you get out of yours?

Woke up to a nice rain this morning. It's spose to be in the low 70's today and tomorrow. Then back to the mid 90's for the weekend. We're heading to Cheyenne for the rodeo on Sunday. The wife is taking her Grandma who's never been.

Have a Humpday all.

I can't remember what day it is. Heck, I couldn't even remember what we had for din din last night. I think the heat is getting to me. Today is forecast for clear (ha- there's so much haze the sky looks gray) and hits in the 90's. Good news is the deck is turning out perfect. Nothing like working in the hot sun and getting hosed down with cold water. No beer drinking till after we quit for the day.

Sandy - Yes I was on some beta blockers but they played hell with my foot neuropathy. One of them actually reduced it but had other bad side effects. I'd rather go see a Cardiologist about this than trust my GP to continue treating me as a Guinea pig.

Dan - Guy I knew at work had a GN that he bought new. He bought it as an investment. Last I heard he still wanted a Lear jet in trade for it. Beautiful car with next to no miles, but hugely overpriced for the market.

Jim - You an Red dog up yet?

Clint - Gotcha! Makes perfect sense. Nice to see you're getting some weather relief. Have fun at the rodeo. Hope the MIL is someone you get along with. Mine isn't.

Time to go water stuff.
