I do know that some Doctors of Education wrote dissertations, I just read the abstract of my grandmother's to make sure.

I am no doctor, as far as I got was a masters of science, and I did do original research for a thesis on it. Right at ten years ago. Reading the title off my old presentation: Finite Element Analysis Modeling: An Investigation of the Bonding Behavior of Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Polymer Steel and Concrete Beam Assemblies. Industrial strength bandaids for damaged bridge beams. Did a lot of late night modeling with Ansys on a laptop.

Chris I might not have said. It was a Sunbeam Alpine Mark IV(1967) Talking to the guy on the phone I thought he was the guru of everything British, car wise. His place was a former Jiffy Lube and all the cars sitting around his shop I would have considered scrap. This Alpine was definitely a diamond in the rough. I'd say he happened upon it purely by luck. He said if I didn't buy it he was going to restore it and make big money. I'm afraid of what his restoration will entail. Heck, it's his car he can do what he wants, and I'm not buying it, so what can I say.

My best friend is a rocket scientist. For real. He spent an inordinate amount of time at the University of Illinois, and then more time afterward writing a thesis. He gave me a copy. It was all gibberish. Formulas, funny symbols, it was a study of an alternate jet propulsion fuel for rockets. Groovy.

It's about time to start listening to Christmas music. I could listen to it all year. I'll have to find a few favorites on youtube. Right now I'm listening to disco.

James - Thanks. Have you performed the R&R on the TDL door or is that happening this weekend?

Chris - Here's the recipe James speaks of. I need to get ready for golf but I'm going to compare my Mom's brownie recipe with this one. They look very similar after a first review.

Norm - Thanks for the recipe. I'm certainly no baker, but I would imagine the "guts" of most brownie recipes look very similar, the differences would be in any extras you put in?

Good morning everyone.

Norm Happy Birthday yesterday. I'll have to dig up a dirge for you to enjoy.

I still don't have a plan for the day. And I really need one. The one guy who I wanted to help with moving left for a cruise today. I know of another guy but I'm not sure he'd work out. I guess I could give him a try. I'd pay him well but I'd work him to death. He's not one for working. He'll trip over easy to work for money for hard to get free money. Does that make sense?

Well, I was gone all day yesterday, I hate to be gone all day again today. I don't know if Tiger cares if I'm gone all day, but I feel bad. Maybe I can spend the day packing stuff up and then tomorrow take it all over. I do have to return that trailer this morning.

Okay gotta find something good. Have a great Friday everyone.

Greg - Ask and you shall receive. My wife just finished this country style table and 4 chair set yesterday. The entire set is solid.oak. The table's base, and the pull out drawer on each end are rather unique. The table also has one leaf.

This will probably be the last time I take time off work for moving. The other guy I wanted to hire, I saw his dad and he said here's his phone number, but he lost his phone. So I won't even bother. What the hell.

Haven't gotten anything done. Got home from the Awful house and took a shower and took the trailer back. Then it was lunchtime again and I called my friend to see if he was going back to the Awful house, I'd give him back his chain that I've had for weeks. Saw the Friday guys there then came home and had something I had to take to a FedEx drop box. The one that was at the post office isn't there anymore, so Tiger and I drove to FedEx/Kinko's. Now I'm going to fix the mailbox because the carrier keeps ripping the door off. Then I'm going to mow.

The drawer in the table is for kids to hide the food they don't want to eat.

Norm I couldn't find a dirge that I liked, so I thought I'd send you a joke. I know you've heard it before, but it never gets old.

James and Mike - Never thought of that. I think I'd have to throw brussel sprouts and turnips in the group of vegetables to hide.

Friend of mine is a rocket scientist, via U of M. Nothing he says rubs off on me! Chris, damn fine dessert that you have there, don't forget the milk. Also, kudos to your wife and her refinishing skills. Mike, you're right on the Sunbeam, not going to be a high dollar car when done, only if it were a Tiger. That video is hilarious. I'm thinking either an antipasta salad or a Gyro for dinner. Local Greek pizza place has both. Local rib joint closed, (bummer) and a food truck that had rib tips and chicken went up in flames a couple of days ago.

James - R&R (Remove & Replace) the door. Done or is it this weekend's project?

Mike - Haven't viewed the YouTube dirge - yet; I will.

Chris - Rutabaga, Rutabaga, Rutabaga!!!

I played fairly well (37/43) - shoulder was bothering me, more so on the back nine.

Just spent two hours on the phone w/ an old geezer (86 y.o.) who plays w/ our group who can barely hear fixing his laptop computer - like pulling teeth; but we got it done. His wife was ecstatic - they can now get to their e-mail, bank accounts, etc.

Most of the day is now gone - oh well, no biggies tomorrows another day I was glad to get them back up & running. I'm rather mentally anguished since it took some time to get him up & running. Time for me to "chill down".

Mike - I rather suspected that was where the end to the joke was heading. I had to back up to the beginning before I could begin to understand his accent - similar to James' accent I reckon.

Thanks Dan! The Greek food sounds good, haven't had any in a long time. There really isn't a good place to.get any near us.

Nah, Jamesbo speaks like a scholar. He knows how to spell zamboni!!

Got some mowing done but not near enough. I'll do some more tomorrow.

Dan a gyro sounds scrumptious. Wish there were a good gyro place around me. There's a place in the mall that's okay but I'm not driving all the way to the mall, much less going in, for a gyro.

Oh **** I forgot all about the mailbox. I was scanning back over the day's posts and I reminded myself. Think I'll do that now, it's still light for an hour or so.

She did another excellent job on that table and chairs, Chris! Well wifey is at son's house assisting daughter in law recovering from surgery so I've been baching it. Woke up at 0630 which is normal for me, but this morning don't need to be quiet, so turned on tube and saw Popeye cartoons! How cool!! I love looking at the roman numerals on the opening or closing credits- this black and white cartoon was made in 1937. I love the way Olive and Popeye sort of mumble under their breath and if you pay attention you can pick up little things, sounds like they are talking to themselves. Oh when I was a kid I loved spinach! My Mom would put vinegar in regular old canned spinach, I had some last week, It is SOOO good! My wife was grossed out... You guys like spinach that way?? Ok enough rambling on...

Greg - I watched Popeye regularly as a child. I distinctly recall the mumbling you refer to. I used to sing the song all the time. As a child I hated spinach. Mom served it au natural - yuck! As I grew older I did develop a taste for spinach and I enjoy spinach to this day. It was far too bitter for me as a child. I agree w/ you on the vinegar part regarding spinach. It wasn't until much later I tried some spinach in sweetened vinegar - much like they prepare German Rotkohl (sweet red cabbage) - love that stuff.

You recall falling to sleep at night in front of the television to awake to the End Of Day Broadcast Sign Off picture? There were many - some with the American Flag waving on the screen and silence. I used to love the Indian Head Test Screen after Sign Off.

Greg - My wife said thanks for the compliment on the table and chairs. When I was little that was the only way I'd eat spinach, and yes I liked it that way. Now my favorite way to eat it is raw in a salad, I actually prefer it to lettuce.

Thanks for the education on the test symbols, never knew there were actual purposes for all those symbols!

Good morning everyone.

Full morning already. Went to the Awful house but everyone ran out quick because it was so cold in there. Then I went to the airport and hung out with the morning group.

Overcast and I hear we're supposed to get rain tonight, to last for 5 days. Yuck. Better get some mowing done and a few things taken over to the house.

This was our test pattern I remember seeing early in the morning, before the cartoons started.

Okay I don't know why google can't just display the picture I want like anyone else. It's the vertical colored bars with short bars at the bottom of long bars.

Not much else. Hope everyone enjoys the day.

Ya Norm that's it. I would wake up before the chickens and run to turn on the TV and that's all I'd get. Usually accompanied by some obnoxious sounding tone.

So I was just talking to a fellow in Ohio who wants to buy my Toad. He had put out a Cars Wanted ad on the Plymouth forum for a 60-62 Valiant, and I'm not going to get to mine any time soon, so I responded, thinking he'd say oh hell you're too far. Nope, he's all fired up about it and wants to run right down to see it. Now I have yet another thing to do besides move, and that's dig that car out. It's in the shop with crap piled all around it. Eh, that's some extra money I wasn't planning on.

I'm all excited about moving all of a sudden. I let Tiger out and that yapping POS next door saw him and just wouldn't shut up. I called Tiger back in. Man I'm not going to miss that.

Ah yes Popeye, I like the old ones like you saw Greg, when he wore that dark blue shirt. the sounds effects were made in the studios for those old cartoons. Not sure if if he actually ever said anyhting whilst mumbling. I actually was thinking last week about going online and buying a dvd of the first era of Popeye cartoons. We had an old black and white Zenith, and sat in front of it looking at that indian test screen, waiting for the cartoons to start. Killing about an hour here, between the wedding that I attended, and the reception, which is about 5 minutes away from me. Buddy's youngest daughter got married, and he was happy to see her get hitched, and the ceremony out of the way.

Beautiful day, and so far no rain. First I heard it was coming Monday then I heard tonight. I could do without either.

Got a few things moved to the house, then went and checked out the Toad. I may need a small atom bomb to get that thing out.

So I'm surfing around youtube and come across a video of this guy going up in the St. Louis Arch. That's one thing I'd like to do, but don't see a big opportunity any time soon. I also tend to be claustrophobic, not always but I can't control it. Same thing with heights. So the arch is an odd place for me to want to go. Anyway, I got a good laugh out of one of the comments. The guy says in the video as he's getting into the little tram car, Unless you're really claustrophobic, I think you could handle it. To which someone replies, Bub, I'm barely making it through this video without screaming.

I don't know, Norm, there are other things that have a bigger hold on me than not having a riding mower to use. I actually would like to find a nice vintage Cub Cadet riding mower to use. Not the red one that looks like a tractor, a regular riding mower looking one. The yellow one. Those are pretty spendy if you can find a nice one.

So tomorrow is going to be a regular day. Awful house in the morning, then shopping, Then whatever I do I'll end early to get ready for work on Monday. I have a feeling I'll be in inspection. The bad guy that took off and we all thought he was going for an OJI, is back, maybe he can make up his time. That's a slippery slope. I took off purposely so I wouldn't have to make up my time but I want him to. Well, it backfired and I had to so by gawd so does he!

Okay good night everyone.

Norm, I also didn't know the reasons for the symbol, but I do remember it- cool info, Thanks.
Mike, I remember when we went in the awful houses in Indiana- Kentucky they were also very cold. I never get cold but I did in those places. I remember the St Louis Arch. It is a place where being closed in would bother you. The car is very close inside, it rocks as it goes up and down, and when we were there, there was a odor of ATF, or similar, like some old elevators smell at old buildings- I assume from hydraulic oil. Also it wasn't Air conditioned so it was hot. Remember the arch was erected back in the 60's (maybe even 50's?) Still a cool view.

Greg/Mike - I've probably been up in the Arch 9 or 10 times since moving here in '83. Usually it was to accompany friends or relatives that were visiting, but of course I did take my own kids up in it a couple times. I always enjoy it! It was completed in 1965. The tram cars have a cantilever gear system in them that ratchet as the car moves along the curvature of the Arch to keep the occupants sitting upright. The tram cars hold 5 people, but they are very small and it's a pretty tight fit for 5 adults. The Arch is designed to sway in strong winds, up to 18-inches of sway, in a 150-mph wind. There is a limit to the sustained wind speed where they will no longer allow visitors to go up, it might be 40-mph, but I won't swear to it. I do remember being up there one time though when I could actually feel the sway, it felt like being on the deck of a rolling ship. I think the sway is only 1-inch from a 30-mph wind, but believe me you can feel a 1-inch sway, it's a pretty spooky feeling.

Good morning guys,

Yesterday was crazy, and a blur! We had my wife's oldest daughter's little 4-year old girl for a sleepover Friday night, which was fine until Saturday morning. Monty, much like when he gets overly anxious during thunderstorms, can get overly excited and to the point where he can't breathe and catch his breath if he is being whipped into a frenzy by a young child. I mean he can get so bad you think he is either going to suffocate or have a heart attack. It is hard to explain to a 4-year old that she can't chase and play with the puppy because he's sick.

We had originally planned to keep our granddaughter until Saturday evening, so she could play with my oldest daughter's little 3-year old boy who we were going to be watching Saturday evening so my daughter and her husband could go to an adults only wedding. Well, we decided because of Monty's horrible condition by noon on Saturday, we needed to take our granddaughter home, which was an hour and 15-minute drive one way, and also change the plan for watching the grandson Saturday evening. We ran the granddaughter home, then I ran my wife back home to care for Monty, then I ran to my daughter's home, all by 3:00pm so I could watch him at his house by myself. I did not leave there last night until 11:00, getting home at 11:30. Like I said, craziness and a blur! I slept in until 0830. Love the dogs, but Monty can be such a problem child! Whatdaya gonna do except grin and bear it???

Hi everyone.

Just like I thought, Awful house then the shopping. Now I have the afternoon to do something, probably mow before it starts raining. It's cloudy and I feel a little mist now and again.

Chris you keep mentioning an "adults only" wedding. What does that mean? Everyone there is naked? Hope Monty is feeling better.

The computer is back to dial up speeds, or slower. The screen locks up when scrolling or going between pages. It takes forever for it to power up and today it started a new game, turn on and turn off the whole thing multiple times to get everything to work right. I was hoping I could put off getting a new one until next month, when I can finally get rid of the stupid jetpack, but I'm thinking it will experience its final splashdown long before then.

Okay got to mow. Might take some stuff over to the house later. Hope everyone has a good afternoon.

[QUOTE]

Mike - "Adults Only Wedding", come to think of it, I am not sure I know what that means??? I've seen a $hit-ton of people who are old enough to be adults, but don't act like them, especially at weddings??? I think in this instance it meant, if your child can't keep his mouth shut and sit still, you should leave him/her at home. Plus, you probably weren't going to want your child to witness the debauchery that was going to happen at the reception!

Monty was fine by the time we got back from taking our granddaughter home, but he would have had another meltdown if the grandson had come over that afternoon as originally planned. Neither my wife or I wanted to go through that again in the same day, that's why I went to my grandson's house to watch him.

James - Sounds like you have a decent mortar. I think my next columns I'll make my own gobar bricks and use your dough for mortar.

Hey, always another weekend to hang a door.

Some comments in no order.

A riding mower cut my 1 acre mowing time by 60%, plus I'm not beat.

An adults only wedding means heavy drinking and the fun that results.

I like the arch, but, yes, that train is tight. I found watching the steel go by through the window helped.

I met a nice Belgian Malinois who was too nice and lazy for police work. Wonderful dog. Obedient, watchful, yet friendly.

Took my 73 Ford Club Wagon from Evansville to Terre Haute Friday, to Newport and back Saturday, then back home today. Although I should raise minimum slow idle, and work on spluttering acceleration a bit, even at the best of times, that thing is a challenge to drive, takes it out of you after 100 miles. Displayed well next to this worse shape Dodge and a Mustang.

The Newport Hill Climb is back in action after a year off due to the Kung Flu. Serious rain occurred, my friends and I ate lunch in the van. Turned the parking field into parking mud, friend needed her 4x4 to get Jeep out. I snuck out the parade route with the green machine. Despite all that, the event is like nothing else. 42 and older original power cars tear *** out of town up a hill road for time. Hill record is 22.46 seconds I think.

This is a Stanley Steamer taking the hill about ten years ago, for an idea. My video and domain; it's safe.

Koda, never heard it called Kung Flu before, I love it! I really like your van too. I have entertained thoughts of a van like yours going on a cross country trip, sleeping in it, camping, etc. Wife and I did it twice in newer vans and it was great. A van is tight but big enough, but still small and nimble enough to go places a motorhome or truck and Rv trailer can't. The idea of a big trip like that in a old car or pickup really seems like a good time, but hotels/motels and their high cost is a bummer not to mention the terrible atmosphere at the cheaper ones. So a trip in a vintage van might be the ticket. Seems like the 70's vans would be good and more highway friendly that the older 60's vans with the engine in between the seats...

Good morning guys,
Pretty sunrise this morning!

View from our deck looking directly east. The ridge line on the left and center behind the houses is the bluff on the west side of the Mississippi. The ridge line in the distance on the right side of the photo is the bluff on the east side of the river.
