Good afternoon guys,

Slightly busy but productive day. Spent about an hour this morning talking with my best friend from Highschool who is retiring tomorrow after a 40-year career with the USAF, retiring as a full Colonel at Youngstown AFB in Ohio. I always thought it was one of those weird small world type of coincidences that he decided to have a career in the USAF, and that at one time I was in charge of the Branch at my Agency that made all of the hardcopy and digital data products used to navigate and target by all military pilots and navigators. I'm looking forward to his retirement because we plan to take some riding, hunting, and fishing trips together in the future.

Helped my wife pick-up some furniture in the middle of the day that she had bought. Also helped her bring up a table and chair set from the basement that she recently sold and the buyer picked up today..

Did a few things related to my car this afternoon. Based on market research from multiple sources I called Hagerty and let them know I wanted to raise my total loss valuation by $5,500. The guy on the phone was great and gave me a quote rapidly over the phone for what the new premium would be, no questions asked. I also sent in my application for a 1-year membership to the St. Louis Archway Olds Club. Seemed like a great bunch of guys and gals when I met many of them at the Olds Show on Sunday. Participation at events and meetings (monthly) is encouraged, but there is no minimum amount of participation. Besides the fact that everyone seemed really nice, it certainly won't hurt to have some more close contacts that know a helluva lot more about these cars than I do.

Hope everyone had a great day and has a relaxing evening!

Went and picked up a new TDL door going out to the deck. The old one was rotting st the bottom from splashing water. I wanted a vinyl one but gave up the search

Decided it was past time to practice what I preach
( preplanning) went and paid for my funeral

Got a simple plain
pine box. Total cost a little over 2 K. It pays to shop when you don't need it

I feel fine just thought I should set out what I wanted to not have my wife make decisions at a difficult time

My wife took my golf buddy ( with cancer, ) and his wife dinner from Bone's
Lump crap, appetizer 2 salads 2 steaks mushrooms and hash browns. They loved it

Sorry Norm not a tofu kind of guy

Chris, we haven't seen and pics of your wife's furniture in a while!
-- I feel and look like a losing boxer! I brush hogged a field and a bunch of trails thru our land with my son's tractor. Problem was when going thru some small trees along trails, branches reached out and hit me in face. 1st time got hit on forehead and knocked off glasses. Had to walk back to house and get flashlights and wife and old pair of glasses. Found glasses on tractor behind seat. 2nd time got wolloped in lip, so today I have a goose egg on forehead and a fat lip, Oh yeah and also a extremely itchy and irritating hornet's bite on leg. Ahh, what fun!!
-- Wife is going down to our son's place to stay with daughter in law who had a hysterectomy yesterday, she will stay for a couple days. Oh I am looking forward to it... I hate to admit it. I love my wife but we all need some time apart, and since we both retired we're always together, good thing I have the barn/shop to get away sometimes. Sure has been some beautiful autumn type days here. See yas!

Greg - All you guys have been very gracious and kind with your compliments about my wife's furniture when I've posted pics in the past, and she and I sincerely appreciate them! I haven't posted any pics in awhile only because I felt I might boring most of you to tears, especially since this is a car site, and I'm extremely biased about her work. She's still going gangbusters with her projects, although she's been slowed the last week and a half with the major oral surgery she had 2 Monday's ago. I'll start posting a few of the nicer pieces again as she gets them done. Thanks for asking, much appreciated!

Be careful out there by yourself in the woods on the tractor, it's not supposed to be that rough, but it's amazing how things like tree branches and hornets can come out of nowhere to bite you in the ****!

James - Wise move, something that's hard to think about, but you really need to plan for. I need to do that. I've thought (a little) about having a Green Funeral. I want simple and cheap, and I definitely don't want my wife or kids having to make any decisions. You wouldn't happen to have any contacts or recommendations for Green Funeral Services in the Greater St. Louis Area would you? If you do, please PM me when you have the time. Thanks

Greg - I'm chuckling at your events - somewhat similar to how my day ended yesterday. Got my COVID-19 booster shot, but it was annoying. While waiting for the shot I'm watching & listening (at the CVS Pharmacy) to some 60 year old knucklehead guy with diarrhea of the mouth whining/complaining about getting a shot (he was getting his 1st COVID-19 and his very 1st flu shot (he repeatedly was telling anyone who would listen how he's never had a flu shot his entire life). Then he's laughing, mumbling with more diarrhea while I'm getting nauseous listening to him babble on. Then, the guy reads the pharmacist's smock name tag which says "Dr." (something) and asks if she's a Dr. (I think he meant a M.D.). The woman pharmacist says a pharmacist has to have a doctorate and she's a pharmacist. I continue to listen to this B.S. while the guy is getting his two shots (he wants them both in one arm and she's says no, he has to have them in separate arms). The pharmacist started working at this CVS two months earlier (she was in her late 40's or early 50's). Some people (including this pharmacist) incorrectly think (call) their pharmacy school qualifies them as having obtained a doctorate - I'm really getting nauseous now. The big baby gets his two shots and it's my turn. She sticks the needle directly into my arm and the tip of the needle lands (punctures) my humerus bone - which OBVIOUSLY makes me flinch. What a fricking ding bat. She says "Oh, I'm sorry", I said that's fine you must have hit a nerve, hoping she'll leave ASAP (which she did). You're supposed to deliver the injection IM (intramuscular) not via the humerus bone. You're supposed to wait 15' after the injection - I was gone in 5' (Anaphylaxis occurs w/in the 1st 3' - 5'). I had enough.

I played the nine-hole shootout and became further annoyed when another team began "jumping" holes so they could (supposedly) get done before the sun set. They jumped in front of us on Hole #5 - I was not impressed and became very annoyed. I called the Pro Shop - they did nothing. I remained annoyed at this behavior the remainder of my 9 hole round - while listing to one woman in my group babble on about "Oh well, it's only a game" - regarding the other team jumping in front of us during the round (they weren't playing through, they were deliberately jumping in front of us and other groups).

It was NOT a fun way to end my day.

I think I'll go out and slap myself with a paint brush until my therapeutic massage @ 1:00PM today.

Norm - Glad you were able to get your booster, despite the BS and insanity!
Regarding the douche bags doing the hole jumping, did you look for them when you got to the clubhouse? I'm afraid if that happened to my group, and the culprits were still around when I got to the clubhouse, everyone within shouting distance would find out about the $hit they were pulling! Hope you have a better day today!

Chris - I was going to, believe me. I made a couple of comments to the Pro who was handling the shootout - which fell on deaf ears. I know where that group (who finished before anyone else) was - in the lounge sucking down booze. I'll give the one guy who instigated the behavior an earful when I see him on the premises at some other time. He's the know-it-all, all-about-me type personality (which I disdain). I wasn't going to invoke a riot with the douche nozzle in the lounge and I just left - very annoyed. Some days and some times are just better to walkaway from it all - I was glad to be home.

Good morning guys,
No big plans for today. Maybe a trip to Wally World. We're looking at a strong possibility of rain this afternoon all the way through Monday. There is a car show I really wanted to go to on Saturday, but I'm sure it will end up being a washout, or at least the threat of severe weather will be so high I won't chance taking the car out.

We'll be watching our grandson Ollie on Saturday evening from about 3 in the afternoon until 11 in the evening so my daughter and her husband can go to an adults only wedding. Always fun to spend time with the grandkids.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning everyone.

Nice to sleep in a little during the week. My one friend at the Awful house asked me what I was doing there on a Friday morning. I said you'll have to ask me that tomorrow.

Beautiful out. Good day for going to look at a car. So I think I will. I didn't see the ad yesterday afternoon so I texted the guy and asked if he sold it. No, he said, he decided if I didn't buy he would get it going and fixed up and make SERIOUS money off it. Hm.

Norm, a lot of things annoy me. Sometimes I'm better at hiding them than others! As I approach middle age, I find that I don't care to keep my disdain to myself as much.

Greg if you go out later and you find people staring at you, just tell them, you should see what the other guy looks like.

Jamesbo I learned long ago that I don't need to make my final arrangements until after my Mom is gone. In the event of my untimely demise, I can hear her saying, after looking at my final wishes, that's too bad we're going to do it like this and he'd just have to like it. So it doesn't matter what I'd want, she'd do things her way anyway under the guise of being unable to carry out whatever it was.

Okay! Gotta go get the truck, go get the trailer, then hit the road. Tiger is staying home. My goal is to get back through Atlanta before too much rush hour. Yes I know this afternoon's rush hour has already started. Have a good day everyone.

Careful, some of you guys are starting to sound like grumpy old men! Haha. I can say that sh*t because I just turned 50 this year, and I swear my hairline has receded a half inch these past two months.

From all I know, pharmacists are required to hold a doctoral degree in pharmacy (PharmD). Is it different in your state?

The point you make is one of contention. A true doctorate (PhD) degree requires original independent research & defense of the research (dissertation) by your doctoral committee. The pharmacy profession & state licensing boards took it upon themselves (some years ago) to self designate the achievement of the PharmD degree as a doctorate degree - it is not a doctorate (PhD) degree - there is no requirement for original independent research & defense of a dissertation which requires far more research and intense justification for defending the dissertation. This is what separates a PhD from a PharmD degree, or similarly, a PhD from an EdD degree. Course requirements are tailored to each, but, as I suggested, it's a point of contention.

My massage therapist beat me up today - I am truly sore (from the massaging). Both shoulders hurt and feel like I've been hanging from the limb of a tree for several days. One neat thing today though was she gave me a cupping therapy cup to borrow. Most of you will recall Mark Phelps (most decorated Olympian of all time with a total of 28 medals) - who was an Olympic swimmer - standing on the start box during the Olympics with cupping marks on his back (where numerous cups were placed to increase blood flow/circulation) - they left circular marks on him. Some people get those marks, others slight circles & from what I'm told some have not noticeable marks whatsoever. Anyways, I have a fairly large one (they come in various sizes) to use on my left shoulder rotator cuff pain to increase circulation to the injured area. I think that's pretty novel and I would never have thought of it. I'm going to give it a try each night for the next week to see how it plays out. Kind of cool, really.

I am not familiar with all aspects of education institutions, but do medical school graduates (MDs, known as Doctors) go through this process?

Ack, I'm bored. I have some silicon capacitor array ICs running on the Laser Scanning Microscope at 512x low speed and it seems as if it takes eons to complete a single scan. Most times I can fill in the dead time with other tasks but today there's not much else to do.

Dan - Thank You.

Kenneth - You've asked very good questions. In a nutshell a PhD is a an (keywords) 'original' 'independent' doctoral degree based upon 'research and defended in front of a doctoral candidate research committee of peers. Anything other than a PhD, for which a 'practitioner' is granted a 'doctorate' degree, is considered a degree to 'practice'. Albeit, a PharmD degree meets the equivalency requirements to 'practice' as a pharmacist in the field of pharmacy. This person (or at least the governing bodies who grant degrees), has bestowed upon themselves the authority to grant a doctorate degree to various disciplines whose end path is not independent original research. Obviously, no one would argue a person who holds a PhD in the field of pharmacology meets the same equivalency requirements as a person whose degree (and coursework) provided them a doctorate to practice pharmacy (which is the prescription of drugs).

So, the best way to think of it is this.

Is a Medical Doctor provided a PhD in research? No. A Medical Doctor is a not a PhD - an M.D. is a practicing physician - whether they're a family practioner or a neurosurgeon, they hold a M.D. 'practicing' degree.
If you do not hold a PhD and your governing body states the degree you obtained is a doctorate degree, then the degree is considered a practicing doctorate degree.

We had a ZEISS Confocal microscope in the lab where I worked at Univ of OK (Norman) during grad school - nice scope. There were many others in the various departments, but we had a ZEISS in ours. I didn't spend much time on it, one of the other grad students spend his entire life performing experiments with it.

When I first took TEM & SEM we had an old Philips SEM which used a 20MB Bernoulii Box to capture electron bombardment arrays off the focal scatter screen to present/create element arrays (of the periodic table). TEM I had no issue with, when I first took SEM I thought that **** was like voodoo. I can only imagine the devices they have in the field today.

EDIT: I took NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) before MRI was cliche.

Good evening guys,
Pretty slow day around here, with the exception of my cardio workout. It rained most of the afternoon, but no lightning/thunder so Monty wasn't freaking out at least. We made a quick trip up to Dollar General (only 2-miles) because my wife needed "a few" things and came home with $48 of "a few".

Right now I'm in the process of making German Chocolate Brownies from an old recipe of my Mom's. Probably should have let my wife make them, but today is the 1st day she's felt like working on her furniture since her surgery, and it's relaxing for her. I'll post some pics after they come out of the oven and then after they're frosted. Not too worried about the brownie part,, just hoping I can get the frosting right!

Chris - Sounds absolutely delicious. I just finished eating & need a chocolate fix. You have the transporter running yet, Scotty?

Icing? Easy method to reduce panic on making frosting for brownies - powdered sugar, baby.

Norm, I was really just passing time. I'm aware of the various doctorate degrees. Not everyone goes for a research doctorate degree - many get professional doctorate degrees.

I'm not gonna tell my neurosurgeon he's not really a doctor.

Sorry Captain, transporter's still on the fritz! Yep, icing, just like on a German Chocolate Cake. Sweetened condensed milk, butter, 3 egg yolks, chopped pecans, and sweetened shredded coconut. Just lucky my wife bakes so much, we had all the ingredients in the house. Brownies are out of the oven now and cooling. Starting in on the icing, gotta cook the condensed milk, butter, and egg yolks, then after it cools a little add the pecans and coconut. Then I have to let it cool all the way to room temperature to set-up. May stick it in the fridge cor a little while to speed up the process. By that time, hopefully the brownies will be cool enough to ice!

Well the car was a bust. Gone a total of 9 hours for a 6 hour trip. That seems odd. The car was very solid, as in no rust whatsoever. First time I've seen a British car that rust free. Guy never tried to start it, said the motor was rebuilt. Forty year old repaint would have buffed up nice. Interior was a wreck. Everything was broken. He kept telling me it was a 20K car when it's finished. It would have taken more than 20 to do it. Too bad. The car deserves to be restored properly and not have a ******** trying to flip it.

Tiger would have been miserable today. The fan was just blowing the hot air around, I was driving with the window down at times just to be able to breathe. The AC belt is an all afternoon job, and I haven't taken the time to do it. Maybe around Christmas I'll have a chance.

Chris German chocolate brownies sound wonderful. Maybe once I get settled I'll try my hand at some baking and other things.

Well I'm gonna relax a little before bed. That was a long trip. Have a good evening everyone.

Mike - I don't think I ever read what make/model the car was, but if you said and I missed it, I'm sorry. What was it? Sorry it was a bust after all that driving and time.

Nice job, Chris.

About this cupping cup my massage therapist gave me. I have it attached to my left shoulder & moving it around in several areas - leaving it in one area for ~5' then moving it to another area. It is supposed to improve circulation by drawing vascular blood into the tissue damaged (swollen) area. I don't know where the blood comes from but I'm getting dizzy.
