Another old timer on the forum...Happy Birthday Chris. Mike, I have had year of manufacture plates on my last three Olds'. Used to be that there was a discount from Hagerty when they were registered on the car. No mention of it when I got the '72. We are supposed to get snow tonight and tomorrow, which should melt quickly as the ground and Lake Michigan are still warm. I have a co worker who left for his condo in S. Carolina today that was concerned as there was to be heavy snow in VA. and N. Carolina. He and his wife are driving down.

Happy Birthday Chris! Welcome to the retirement club and now you can really start planning on traveling - going to and fro hospital and doctor appointments.

Good morning everyone.

Better traffic this morning. Actually when I went to lunch before 11 yesterday it wasn't fixed, but when I came back at 1130 it was. Doesn't look like it will be the rip-roaring day it was yesterday.

Chris I hope you enjoyed dinner with the family.

Plant Maintenance is swapping out all the fluorescent lighting with LED lighting. We're going to need sunglasses to work in here. I don't know where they found this extra pile of money. The whole place is getting painted, we're getting a new washer next year, and the people who built the tire retrieving system is coming in to completely rebuilt and update the retriever.

Okay have a great day everyone.

Mike - We did have a nice dinner, the food was good and the company was great.

Nice they're putting some $'s into your workplace. Sounds like job security to me.

Good morning guys,

Cold (38°) and extremely windy this morning. Really feels like Winter.

I had a long discussion via text yesterday evening with the Sales Manager at the local Yamaha dealer that I had contacted about potentially buying my motorcycle. He said he loved the bike and wanted it, but his wife essentially put the brakes on the purchase because of their tax bill and Christmas expenses coming up in the near term. He said he'd like 1st dibs on it in the Spring if I don't sell it before then. I told him I'd let him know before I post any ads in the Spring.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning everyone.

Chilliest morning yet. The Charger has a pretty good heater so I'm comfy driving in. It has dual zone AC and what's weird is you can only adjust one side at a time.

Slow start to the morning. It's Friday and we're not working tomorrow so no one is in a big rush. My wall guy just said he knew I was old because I eat trail mix. Hm.

Where's Kenneth been? He hasn't been on the website since November 8, and hasn't shown up here in a month. Hope he's okay. Maybe it's the busy season at his work. Or the temperature has come down below 100 and he's out rejoicing.

My "new" Valiant has a dealer sticker on it that says "by Freeman Spicer." It was there when I bought it years ago and no one has ever taken it off. I looked up Freeman Spicer and turns out, at one point, they were the largest Studebaker dealer in the world. After Stude went tango uniform, they sold Chrysler, Plymouth, Peugeot, and Mercedes. So cool, my car is from South Bend, Indiana. I bought it from a guy whom I remember to be in Evansville but the car had a Kentucky plate on it. Maybe I flew into Evansville and we drove to Kentucky. Not a stretch for a car bought new in SB to be in that area.

Think I'll go for a walk. I've got a few signed already, I've been sitting too long. Hope everyone has a good day.

I'm betting he's busy doing and enjoying all kinds of outside stuff that he can't do when it's so hot. He's probably doing some hiking, going trail riding in his Jeep, and taking his Vert out a bunch while he can. At least that's what I hope is up!

That didn't last long. We got a whole bunch of wheels that we don't have parts for. Which I don't understand because everything that comes in gets cleaned and reused, so where did these parts go after they came in? Actually most of them are getting washed and I don't know why that's taking so long. I'm surprised anything gets done around here.

So I need tires for the Valiant. The tires seem fairly inexpensive but the place wants to charge me 88 bucks to put them on. WTF am I going to do otherwise, put them on myself? I suppose if they didn't charge the 88 then the tires would be 22$ more expensive. Bottom line is it will be 583 out the door for a set of Generals. Does that seem like a decent price or too high? I can't even tell anymore.

Mike - Tires are expensive these days regardless, but it's impossible to give you any kind of informed opinion on whether that price is too high without more info like, what is the exact tire size, what is the tire model name, are they charging for a road hazard warranty, etc. I've found over the past several years that Walmart tires and installation packages are usually the cheapest out there, if you trust them to work on your car. The last tires I bought for my truck were Goodyear Wrangler radials and they were purchased and installed by Walmart and they were fine. The entire package was the cheapest I could find anywhere at the time.

They are 14" tires 205/75's, not exactly street burning material. That does include the road warranty. One time I bought tires for the High Saturn and didn't know I paid for the road hazard warranty. Some broad took her half out of the middle and ran me off a three or four inch jagged edge and destroyed one of the tires. I went to get a new one and the guy says, can I have a look at the tire? Sure, it's in the back. He looks at it and says, congratulations you get a new tire for free. Surprised the heck out of me. The catch, I had to pay $17 for the free tire. I said what gives? He said the new road hazard warranty.

Mike - These tires that meet your size requirement are in stock at my local Walmart for installation right now. They are $53/each, with 45K - mile tread warranty. There are two levels of installation prices, Standard is $18 per tire without Road Hazard Protection, $28 per tire with Road Hazard. You can buy and get all 4 tires installed for a total of $325, that includes the Road Hazard Warranty. So yes, depending on what you're wanting, the +$500 for the Generals is considerably more than you need to pay. Hope this helps!

Thanks Chris. That link takes me to Atlanta area Walmarts. I'd just as soon put 13's back on it but I'm afraid they wouldn't clear the Scarebird front disc brakes that were put on. And I'd really like a whitewall. I think that's asking too much.

We were really hurting for awhile waiting on wheels, now they are coming and no one feels like working. Well, they wouldn't feel like working anyway.

Gotta come up with something to do after work. Probably run around and resecure all my car covers. It's pretty windy out.

Hope it helps ya Mike, just trying to save ya some $'s. I'd bet you're correct that it would be difficult to find 13-inch rims that would clear the front discs unless the rims came from a more modern card that just happened to have the same bolt pattern as the Valiant.

Mike, look at Kumho tire for a white wall in your tire size. I would check out the tire rack if the local Wally World doesn't have them. Anybody hear from Norm yet?

Well, after a quick search, I couldn't find Kumho WW tires in your size at Tire Rack. Looks like Chris got the best deal for ya.

Busy day here. Went to the title agency at 10 am for the closing on my purchase. I walked in dressed ok and holding a folder my realtor gave me. They offered me something to drink, which I declined, then they pretty much ignored me. The sellers walked in, their IDs were copied, and they were shown a conference room. They then asked me if I was subbing in for my realtor who got held up. I said, nah, I'm the guy buying the place. This changed their tune (they were fooled by the folder with the logo.)

So I got my own conference room after the ID was copied. Guy came in, had me sign a bunch of stuff, all was in order. Realtor arrived, then the owners came over. Good talk about utilities, history, keys, pictures of this building under construction on the property, contacts exchanged, etc, etc. Now I own a 15 acre horse farm.

Drove out there, opened the gate, walked around this berm house for a while; found the water shutoff, the thermostat, the breaker box. House STANK when I was there previously. Did not now, and I think it's the used dehumidifiers. Those are now unplugged forever. I'll get new ones.

Walked the entire property perimeter. Took me a good hour. I had company, two dogs from across the street came over and hung out the whole time. The property is bordered on the east by the road, the south by the former owners who sold off this land, the west by other folks, and a lot of mine lakes and stuff to the north. East and south are in great shape, west is ok. The back end of the north side, who the hell knows. I have a good survey doc and was looking at it on my phone.

Once done with the perimeter walk, I thoroughly checked out the shop, and the barn. I then checked all five little yard barns. It then got dark, so I left. I got the mail out of the box, locked the gate, and met the across the street neighbor. His name is also John, and owns the dogs. Good talk. The old engineer who owned my land was crazy, says John. Smart, but nuts. Nuts like he dove into one of the lakes with scuba gear, found the mine shaft connecting it, swam half a mile through the flooded mine and came up across the road in another mine lake. That is more nuts than I will ever be.

No, I was the little brother who was constantly harrassed, tortured, etc. by my next oldest brother. There is a four year gap between us, even today with him turning 72 in January, if I stand behind him at a family gathering for more than a moment, he will go into a defensive mode and turn around to see what I'm up to. As if I might be paying him back for a long past offense. . John, congrats on the property purchase, should we call you farmer John?

Glenn - Glad the water PT has/is helping your pain in your knees, that's great! We're doing ok in our home except my wife has been ill for about a week with some type of cold or flu bug. She's slowly feeling a little better each day now.

Road Hazard warranty is pretty much like what it sounds like. If you purchase the warranty on a new set of tires, and are driving it the next day and run over something sharp that destroys the tire, they would put a brand new tire on for you. These warranties are usually prorated, so if the tire had a 50K-mile manufacturer tread warranty on it, and you had put 25K-miles on the tire when it was destroyed, they would put a new tire on for you, but you would have to pay half of the price of the new tire because you had already used up half the normal life of the tire.

Probably not. I doubt I'll farm the field. I'll let my friend's daughter have a flower garden or something.

I am the older sibling. My crowning glory was that, for one visit, my brother was tall enough to hook the waistband of his drawers over a doorknob at grandma's. but not tall enough to get off. So, wedgie dispensed and I left him like that. My dad freed him a minute later, but not after laughing at it.

Hi everyone.

Beautiful day today. A little cold but not windy. Slept in, ran a couple errands, went to Awful house, and came back and started hacking on a tree.

Notice I didn't say cut one down. Theres this tree that was growing crooked and hovering over the driveway at Mom's. The branches would drag across the car when you went in and out. I decided it would be a piece of cake to cut it down. So today was the day. I got about three quarters of the way through the tree and it split and fell on the driveway(and the power lines) with the trunk still attached, just split. Took a bit to get the branches off the power lines but I was successful. Now I have half a driveway full of tree that needs to get cut up and chipped. What doesn't fit in the chipper I'll take home and make firewood out of. Too bad I don't need any firewood.

Glenn I did buy a Valiant. A 68 four door. I had actually owned this car years ago and sold it to a friend. He sold it back to me last week. It is now registered and insured and as soon as I replace the 10 year old dry rotted tires I'll drive it everywhere.

John congratulations on the land purchase. I'm glad things went smoothly. I don't remember if you've said, are you planning on living in the berm house or are you going to build something new? Fifteen acres wow, I'm jealous. I'd build smack in the middle. Or if the lakes are nice build an oasis.

Chris I'm the older brother but the middle child. My sister is two years older than I am. My brother is not quite 2 years younger than I am. I resented my brother for years because whatever I did he had to tag along. And if I complained then I couldn't do what I wanted. On the flip side if he was doing something and I wanted to go along, I couldn't. And my parents wondered why I didn't get along with him.

Dan I've got a set of 13s in the basement I bought many years ago for this car. They are Maxxis and have a nice whitewall, but I'll find someplace to use them. I have another Valiant buried in the back 40 that could use them.

Okay break is over. Gotta keep on with this tree. Eventually I'll clean up the whole corner and put up a new mail box. This is gonna take a few days.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mike - Glad you didn't get hurt with the tree project, and that the power lines didn't come all the way down. You've had way too much excitement for today. Good luck with the rest if the mess.

Hi guys,

My heater core in my 4-4-2 started a minor leak from the heater box near the end of the season around the end of October. I've owned the car for 6-years now, and I've never had the need for heat or defrost here in St. Louis, so I decided to go the easy route, heater delete. Bought rubber/silicone nipples for pipes coming off the waterpump and going into the back of the intake. Bought 2 plugs for the pipes going into and out of the firewall to/from the heater core. Only issue was getting the hoses off the pipes. They would not come off without being cut, so that's what I did.it

My crowning glory was that, for one visit, my brother was tall enough to hook the waistband of his drawers over a doorknob at grandma's. but not tall enough to get off. So, wedgie dispensed and I left him like that. My dad freed him a minute later, but not after laughing at it.
Pretty good! Chris, when I had to replace a heater hose, I always slit them with a box cutter to get them off.
