James, I think you meant ticker, but the icon on my screen looks like you meant your johnson, lol.

Mike, the Fouranado is not only a unique car, but documented with history, and was restored and finished from concept to road worthy by Fred, so it has an appropriate price tag. I could afford it, but it does not fit the planned activities in my life in the future.

Netflix Update
I cancelled my previously cancelled Netflix cancellation which means I'll remain at the Standard with ads plan.

John-
I watched a couple you tube vids on Fred with his collection and the Fouranado ...cool stuff for sure. I noticed what looked to be the car you picked up from him in the background of the vids.

We're satisfied with the same level of Netflix service. The Ads are not too bothersome, and there's no way I'm paying the price they're asking for service without Ads.

Keith - We're on auto billing, but I believe it's $6.99 or $7.99 per month now for the "with Ads" level.

Other than doing a little damage to a tape when a reel got out of control and unrelated to the stuff, I have had three reel to reel tapes respond well to food grade silicone applied with a Q tip. This eliminates Loss of Lubrication noise, which is a type of noise you can get when the tape is dried out and does not glide over the head but scrapes.

We had a real nice time at the picnic. Beautiful sunshine and a high in the low 70's. Beautiful picnic site too. We were at at County Park west of St. Louis on top of high hill with a great view of a very pretty lake thats also in the Park. There was a large picnic shelter there with grilling facilities, and nice bathroom facilities. Club supplied burgers, brats, and hotdogs, and everyone brought a dessert or dish to pass. My wife made a huge double batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies and they were a huge hit and went very fast. Just a super time, thanks for asking!

Keith - $6.99 + tax/mo.
John - I had a small bottle of this awful skank smelling lubricant I used on a couple reel to reel units I owned late 60s/early 70s. Came with these little thin pads for cleaning tapes while running. Stuff smelled like dead fish - cod liver oil? It was skank.

Nice. So far, I have one liquid for tape, another liquid for heads and guides, and another for rubber rollers. These work on cassette and 8 track too.

The Fouranado, when Fred took me for a drive in it, drove like you'd expect, an FWD 442. Pointed better, and I am sure the extra cubes helped although we drove conservatively.

Good morning everyone.

Seemed warm outside today when I left for work, but the thing in the car said 67. Hm. No call for rain, but it's gonna get colder. I don't care. The real cold won't come until after the gas man is here on Tuesday.

Jamesbo did you find a donor already? That's great. Let me know what I can do for you before and after surgery.

John that is one cool car. Why does Fred want to sell it? Maybe he'd have made you a package deal.

Chris those cookies aren't famous down here. Maybe you'd better send me some so I can get the word out.

Speaking of reel to reel, my dad was a part time cop and I'd go with him to the station sometimes. The radio dispatcher/phone warmer/receptionist would sit at her big console and just to her right was this humongous reel to reel thing that recorded -everything- that went on. The phones, the radio, probably the conversation in the office. It turned real slow. Wonder what they did with the reel when it was all taken up, or how they'd find something in the middle of it should they need to.

Okay only 6 wheels and we're getting on to break. Hope things pick, up. Everyone have a great Monday, and a great week. Oh it's Columbus Day. Congratulations.

Oh it's Columbus Day.
Mike - I'll get my wife right on making up a batch of those cookies.

Actually Colmbus Day is just the formal name, around here we prefer to call it Christopher's Day.

I sure hope Jim has found a donor already. If you hear confirmation that he has, please let us know. 🤞

Hope ya have a great rest of your day.

Mike, I don't want to speak for him, but he told me he wanted to reduce the size of his fleet going into his golden years and do some different things like travel more. I don't really want the Fouranado; it's a neat car, but the only 68s I want are a H/O and maybe a Ram Rod. Plus, all my cars are somewhat driveable in terms of wanting to drive them on the road, as opposed to mechanically. I don't want to drive a 1 of 1 restored concept car on the road. I'm sure a package deal of both cars, a truck, and a trailer could have been made in August when I was there the first time.

Interesting things on that car are that the fenders are actually two units bodyworked together for the Toro drive width. The front track is wider than the rear. The rear is a standard rear diff axle, with no shafts. The radiator is well into the core support, as the entire powertrain is far forward by a foot or so to handle the Toro geometry needed. It has a flat floor in the cab.

John - Sounds like some really creative engineering to make it all come together and be functional. I'd like to see how the rear bearings and hub retention was set-up in the rear without some length of axle shaft, I can't picture it in my brain? Thanks for sharing.

Good morning guys,

Slept in later than usual although I've been up for about 2-hours. Almost 1000 here now and the temp still is only 48°, and it's only supposed to get up to 63°. We're looking at lows of 32° and 33° on Wed/Thurs and highs in the upper 50's. Really feels and smells like Fall.

I need to get started on detailing the car for the last big show of the season this coming Saturday. I've had it out to several events since it's had a thorough cleaning/detailing. PT on Tues and Thurs this week. I'm not noticing much, if any improvement so far. My optimism is starting to wane a bit.

Hope everyone has a great day and week!

I could be wrong. I know it has no drive shaft. It surely has axle shafts. Maybe no gears.

That's what I was thinking, axle shafts without engagement to gears. The bearings would have to have something to ride on within the tube.

I am not speaking for Jim. When I spoke w/ Jim last Friday, he indicted he was going to have the EKG today to determine suitability for surgery. It was & remains my understanding the surgery Jim was referring to during our discussion involved the introduction/implants for the Dialysis port(s). As Jim indicated in a previous post (somewhere) he was electing to have Dialysis x3/week at a clinic (as opposed to home). I won't go into types of Dialysis implants/ports & if interested I'd suggest anyone review types of ports on your own w/o me making attempts &/or suggestions. This type surgery can require from 1 - 4 weeks to mature/heal before it is suitable for dialysis.

Jim - Hope all went well today for you.

I'm heading out to get my Geezer Pleaser Influenza vaccine.

The port [fristula ] takes several weeks of heeling before it can be used. That is why I'm getting it now. All my numbers keep falling no matter what i try to avoid dialysis As luck would have it The closet thing I have to a brother [close cousin] fell and broke 4 ribs and punctured his lung. His boy just flew in from Colorado [mom has dementia]

Jim - Thanks for clarifying. We're all pulling for ya and hoping for the best possible solution in the long term. You're already in my daily prayers, but if there is anything else I could possibly do please don't hesitate to message me.

There would need to be something at the carrier bearing saddles (where the shaft splines would engage the differential side gears) to support the inner ends of the axle shafts; otherwise the inner ends of the axle shafts would bang around. The simplest thing would be to use a regular differential with no driveshaft attached.

Same goes Jamesbo, call me for anything. Can you put some garlic on the vegan diet to liven it up a little?

Got out of work a little early, 215. We finished around 130 and I was deep into reading about early 20th century ocean liners, so the rest of the time went fast. I think we're done with the daily overtime. That's an extra 10 hours overtime a week, but it's nice to sleep until 4 instead of 2.

Summit cruise in tonight. This is the last month. I like going but I hate leaving early so I can get home and get to bed. Won't be any Oldsmobiles, it's turbo, nitrous, supercharged night. The Oldsmobiles won't come out for that.

Kenneth, it could be that.

Jim, they put my old man on temporary dialysis and his kidneys perked right up. Could be that yours can recover with a little help from some friends for a while.

Sounds like fun Mike, enjoy yourself! Our last mega-cruise-in was the 1st Friday of this month. There are a couple of smaller cruise-ins on the 26th and I'm planning on making an appearance at both. I'm still trying to match my total event number from last year, but it doesn't look like I'm gonna make it. The three weekends of downtime when the car was down for repairs set me back 4 or 5 events I had planned on attending. I'm sitting at a total of 29 events right now. Last summer and the summer before I had it out to 34.

One can only imagine what Jim's been pushing through his sewer pipes the past 70 years. Whatever it was, dollars to donuts it tasted damn good.

Anyone see comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS)? I was able to see it with the naked eye just after sunset, and it was very visible in binoculars. I set up the binocs on a tripod in the driveway and attracted some young fellas who were amazed at the sight.

Kenneth - We knew where it was supposed to be in the sky and looked shortly after sunset with the naked eye and with my high quality Bausch & Lomb binoculars, but we could never find it? I can't see it in the pic above, is it supposed to be in or near the red cross-hair type symbol?

Good morning everyone.

First morning I thought it was actually chilly. Wonder where my jacket is. I need to find my fleece. It's like a hoodie without the hood, made out of fleece. Got it from work years ago. It's very warm.

I'm gonna drive around with my bright lights on all the time. As if these sunlight-imitating headlights aren't enough, people just refuse to dim their lights for oncoming traffic. I think they teach that in drivers ed. What's funny is the headlights in anything I drive aren't as bright as the new cars regular lights. No one will notice.

I thought I remembered seeing Halley's comet when I was in high school. My girlfriend and her family and I drove way out into the country to escape the city glow and could barely see it way up in the sky. But this was 1983 and HC didn't come back around until 1986. So who knows what we saw. A quick search suggests that it could have been IRAS-Araki-Alcock, but I don't remember a name like that.

Gas man arrived at Mom's this morning so I'm sure she's got the heat cranked up to roast. Hey she's paying the bill not me. The coldest it's been in my house so far is 68, so we've got plenty of time before the heat needs to come on.

Think I'll go for a walk. We've hit a lull in wheels and I've been sitting too long. Hope everyone has a good day.

Well, it started for me, last night. We were sitting on the couch watching TV and my wife had on her lounge pants, long sleeve shirt, and a blanket on her and then complained she was cold. I said to her, do you want me to fire the gas fireplace up to take the chill off? She said no, I'll be fine. It had gotten down to 67, but I was comfortable in shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt. When she got up to use the bathroom I fired up the gas fireplace. When she came back she said thanks, but I would have been fine. Did she really think I could sit there and enjoy myself after she told me she was cold without turning it on???

I don't think the comet is actually in that picture, it's just showing where in the sky it will be. It should be fairly visible when looking in that area. When the two young-uns came over I pointed with my finger and they saw it right off - it was that apparent.

I feel like Mike knocked the dog $hit out of me. Acute myalgia steadily came on while playing golf getting more sore after each hole. Muscles, joints, neck, lower back, elbows, wrists, knees aching but not a single point of soreness either at the injection site or the bicep. I'll sleep like a rock tonight. Dang, my legs are starting to tingle. Feels like muscles, tendons, ligaments are all tied together.

Leftover lasagna for dinner. I actually like a pasta dish more so as a leftover. Something about the melding I think.

Thanks for the clarification Kenneth. I think it might have already been below the horizon when we were looking last night. Wife is looking right now, but there is partial cloud cover, those large fluffy clouds. They're moving fast, but it is difficult to scan a particular area of the sky between when one cloud moves out and another replaces it. I got burnt out looking last night, I'm not wasting my time tonight, not that big a deal to me.
