My CRT TV is beginning to make an audible humming noise. Could be an opportunity knocking at the door for one of those fancy HDMI Smart flat screen behemoths?

Mt. Olive is one of my favorite Dill pickles, I also like Milwaukee and Vlassic. I just tried a off brand dill from Save a Lot- can't recall brand- don't like them. Have you guys heard about young people using pickle juice to mix drinks? Pickle juice and vodka?? I love a Bloody Mary with dill pickle, green olives, etc. I might just like a pickle juice drink... Frank has been home for a week or so and seems to be doing good. I want to invite him over to play cards soon, but Linda is not up to company- she is still "deaf". I sure hope more hearing comes back. Anyway all is well, starting to get the winter drags already though- just no ambition to do anything.

Greg - Yes. It began to become fashionable a couple years ago. Sorta makes sense.

Pulled out my larger wet stone & sharpened my two butcher knives. I don't believe they've seen the stone for a couple years. I do have a honing steel I use (likely daily).

Big news - Bought a new flat screen T.V. from Best Buy. Nothing really big, something to fit inside Armoire in living room - nearly twice the size of my current CRT T.V. Hard to believe how inexpensive these things are today. Was not available at my local Best Buy. I could have picked it up locally on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I'd prefer to see it myself (examine carton, dents & such) so I'm heading to Jacksonville, ~1hr from here - where Jim bought his jeep.

Good morning everyone.

Jamesbo that was beautiful.

Greg would a hearing aid help Linda at all? I've got moderate hearing loss in my left ear, and I'm resisting getting a hearing aid. I know it would do wonders for me but I think it's vanity that keeps me from going ahead.

Pickle juice is supposed to be really good for you. I know this lady who gets dill pickle juice popsicles. Yikes.

Mom's cable TV went tango uniform yesterday and the guy is coming out to fix it at 9 this morning. So I'm not in a hurry to get ready for the weekly Walmart trip. Since there was nothing to watch last night we put in a movie. Flicka. It was lame. Painful in some spots but it had horses in it so Mom liked it.

It occurred to me I didn't know the actual meaning of the word Infamy. This is what dictionary.com has to say about it.

infamy

[in-fuh-mee]
Phonetic (Standard)IPA

noun

plural

infamies
  1. extremely bad reputation, public reproach, or strong condemnation as the result of a shameful, criminal, or outrageous act.

a time that will live in infamy.

Synonyms: obloquy, disrepute, shame, opprobrium, odium
    Antonyms: honor, credit
  2. infamous character or conduct.
  3. an infamous act or circumstance.
  4. Law., loss of rights, incurred by conviction of an infamous offense.

Sounds about right.

Okay! Hope everyone has a great day. It's starting out foggy here, but not too, too cold.

I used to watch My Friend Flicka (T.V. series) when I was a kid.

Off to Best Buy.

Oh this wasn't the TV show. It was a 2007 remake with creative license. Trite dialog poor acting. Mom also has Flicka 2 and I'm sure not in a hurry to see that one.

It's almost 930 and I'm still in my jammies. It's really foggy out. I guess I could get things going and get over to Mom's. I don't think it's going to rain today, so once the fog lifts I might be able to get to the things I didn't do yesterday, and maybe even fire up the tractor and take it for a ride.

Greg - A Save-a-Lot is the closest grocery store to us and our's actually carries Mt. Olive products, our Walmart's do to, so that's what are usually in our fridge.

I used to get the "Winter drags" early and bad before the grandsons started playing hockey. Since they started that, I really have something I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to every week, usually on multiple days. You need to get out on some snowmobile rides with the boys, even if it's just a day trip, just something to get you out of the house for awhile. I can completely understand why you wouldn't want to be away from the house on an extended trip with Linda struggling with her hearing. I sure hope she starts to see some improvement soon. You guys are in our prayers!

Chris - I have a large armoire in the living room which contains my stereo amp/receiver, CD/DVD player, tape deck, numerous bookshelves (CDs/DVDs), blankets, pillows, T.V. & anything else I care to throw at it. I'm limited by size - 40" maximum side-to-side. Last night I thought of rearranging the living room & placing a large flat screen T.V. above the fireplace (on the mantle). I closed off the fireplace (non-functional) years ago. I could easily accommodate a 6' wide flat screen T.V.; yet, that's not really me. I don't spend much time watching the boob tube & I can't justify having a humongous T.V. Yes, I could turn at least 1/2 or the entire (large) living room into a home theater; but, I just don't find the utility in it.

Best Buy had a 3 day sale on a 45" (diag.) - 33% off/discount Insignia Smart flat screen T.V. My office desktop monitor (52" diag. x 45" wide) is an Insignia 2-port HDMI & remains larger than my new flat screen T.V. This Insignia desktop monitor (purchased ~15 or 16 years ago) just as HDMI was hitting the market hasn't skipped a beat since Day One. So, obviously I was looking for something manufactured by Insignia.

I may get a hernia (I've had two - bilateral repairs) lifting this fricking CRT TV off the armoire. It must weigh all of 90 lbs. & cumbersome as all hell. The new flat screen weighs <25 lbs. & I think that's shipping weight. Light as a feather.

Many moons ago when I purchased my Bose 5.1 surround system I built the speakers into the walls - all wires concealed (wire looms are contained in the attic & down through the walls), including the thumper (surround bass box).

Next is the tear-down & rebuilding/reinstalling all the components. I'm in no hurry & I have several options, I need to firstly determine what are those options e.g. video/audio, etc.

Rant. Please skip. This might get ugly.

If I would have spent one more minute in Walmart I would have killed someone. In fact I'm going to email Walmart here in a minute. It won't do any good but they get a big fat FAIL on their ADA abilities today. First an *** parks in the front handicapped spot, with no plate, no sticker, and doesn't even get out of the car. Then there are no electric carts to use. But do you think the flunkie standing there looking at his phone would go find one? Nope. So Mom gets to push a cart. I thought, hm that might not be so bad, she gets a little extra excercise and might not take as long. Well, by the time we left she was about crippled and could hardly move. Oh but we saw several young-types with one playing and riding on one. Mom just glared at them, I said "brilliant" as they went past. What's brilliant? Angry white man mad at the world! I could hear them chanting all over the store. There were several and walked in a big group and got in everyone's way. Then there's the zamboni that drives itself, until it sees someone then stops in their way. All this and the usual people who camp out in front of what I need and won't move. Geez I hate that place. Oh and the people who smell like pot.

Norm it's too bad you're not closer. I have two of those CRT screens you could have since you like them. I don't know what to do with them. I hate to throw them out since they still work. But come on over and I'll help you load them. Maybe we could share a hernia. If I'm ever in a tornado I'm gonna hide under one. It ain't moving.

Oh by the way, the cable guy was there sharply at 8. There wasn't anything wrong with the TV. The last guy that was out told Mom how to use the remote wrong. She did something and it all went blank, and she couldn't get it back because she was doing what the other guy said. But this guy was very gracious and showed her what all the buttons meant, how to use them, and he also went outside up on the side of the house and tweaked and tightened adjusted all the connections. Besides not being charged for a service call, she'd going to get two days credit because she couldn't watch TV. Now how do you like that.

Man this is the first time in a long time I actually felt anger after leaving Walmart. Usually as soon as I walk out of the place I'm like eh this place sucks and I get in the car case closed. But today, even at home eating lunch I just couldn't shake it. Finally when I got home and saw Tiger I felt better. I don't know how to fix that place. Maybe go at a different time, maybe leave Mom home and just get her stuff, which she'd hate because she likes picking out her own stuff, I don't know.

Okay email Walmart and call my sister. After break.

Are there any big stores you can go to than Walmart, Mike? Here in Michigan there are Meijer stores. Meijer is more local but is quite big and I dare say has most everything Wallys does, but it seems to have a better feeling than Walmart. My wife hates Walmart and we usually go to Meijer. Krogers was her favorite for groceries b4 we moved but no Krogers up here. There are lots of smaller grocery store around but much more pricey. Also lots of hardware stores and TSC, but they usually are pricey also.

Mike - Got the CRT TV out of the armoire & onto a thick blanket draped across the big living room leather chair. I was thinking what to do w/ it - it actually still works exceptionally well; it's just I'm sure there's something about to go amiss in at least the audio section. There's a remote chance I might rig it up in the man-cave. Doubtful I'll string a Spectrum coax cable over to the man-cave - maybe see what a little T.V. antenna might get me. No hernia to share w/ you. I'll pass on CRT TV offer(s).

You can't fix Walmart. Don't let it fester on you. Do not shop at Walmart (EVER) on a Sunday. You've been treating Walmart shopping as a (Sunday) ritual. Very simply find a different day & time to shop & call it a day - done. You set yourself up ea. week for this B.S. - it's finally paid off big time? Additionally, there ARE other stores to consider which accept American green backs.

Was the cable guy from Spectrum? It's taken awhile since they bought Time-Warner, closed locations, re-vamped & better defined their business model but I think it's paying off for them. Spectrum has been to my home maybe twice in the past six years - ea. time completely thrilled w/ the service & service personnel.

Norm - I'm glad you found a good deal on the Brand of TV you wanted, and the size you needed to still be able to use your entertainment armoire, which is gorgeous by the way! We have what is more of a computer station armoire, that we used to hold a TV in our bedroom for many years. Now it's only really used to store my miscellaneous $hit in my man cave.

Norm I think you're right. I've been going to Walmart on Sunday for as long as I can remember. As long as I stay on Mondays off I think we'll go then. That gives me all of Sunday for an off day and Monday is shortened anyway due to having to end everything early for work the next day. Maybe you can practice your golf swing with the old TV.

Greg where I come from we shopped at Jewel and Osco. I've seen Meijers and shopped there but not in Georgia.

So now that the TV is working again at Mom's we spent the evening watching MASH and Fixer Upper while we decorated the Christmas tree. We have more stuff to put up, that comes later. It's nice to have the Christmas stuff up and all the lights but you know what, after a few weeks of that it's nice to take it all down.

I remember working a 12-8 am shift as a gas leak responder for the utility in Lansing. Meijer was open 24 hrs. I could go in there @ 2am and if no gas calls could shop and meander around at my leisure -And Getting Paid! No one else in there except stockers! Great for Christmas shopping. Mike- yeah hearing aids may be the answer for Linda. We go to the post surgery appt w/ Doc this week should learn a lot. BRRRR -4.6 on outside thermometer this morn!!

Good morning everyone.

If I didn't know any better I'd think today was a work day. I got up at 5 so I could get ready and tend to the dog, for a doctor's appointment at 7. I'm glad it's over with and I have the rest of the day.

Greg BRR is right. I haven't experienced negative temperatures in decades. In fact when I retire I'm moving to the equator. So far all indications are that this winter will be mild. I hope I didn't just jinx us.

Mom and I are going to Office Depot today to get office chairs for the kitchen. Our kitchen chairs suck and we couldn't come up with acceptable replacements. She said when she had her surgery she would sit in her desk chair at the kitchen table and she liked that, so that's what we're doing.

I think armoires are nice pieces of furniture. I want to customize one and turn it into the Amphicar Club archives and museum. I have most of the club's records and some doodads and I thought it would be a good idea to keep everything in one place for quick reference. I also want to get a small trailer I can tow to club events and display a few things.

Had a nice breakfast at the Awful house after the doctor. Saw a couple midnight shift hold overs and had a nice chat with a long time friend that's worked there forever. Only a couple other people there.

Okay Happy Monday. Have a good day everyone.

Mike - I think Walmart on Monday is a super plan. I like the way you think about my old CRT TV. In times past I've saved my various non-working appliances over several years, taken them into an abandoned wooded area & off-loaded several dozen rounds of 12 gauge.

I always enjoyed the Meijer stores. I was recently in one in Michigan UP w/ my brother & his wife.

I did a double-take in Jacksonville, NC yesterday while departing for home after picking up the new T.V. A brand new Wawa store. First time I've seen one South of the Mason-Dixon.

Greg - Miserable temperature to begin the day & it's only beginning of December. Stay warm.

Jim - I added a Rosemary/Lime dry seasoning rub under the Panko just before baking. I thought about grilling them instead. I might try that next time for the extra crunch.

Pulled the living room armoire from the wall, emptied entire contents & in serious cleaning mode today. Reviewing my options for reassembling my audio/video components.

Attending the proposed conceptual planning meeting of the proposed development around me this evening @ 6 pm. This is not an official Town meeting but rather a hey lookie lookie meeting being put on by the developer as a heads-up meeting for adjoining property owners.

Blankets stored in armoire washed, dried, folded, all audio/video equipment removed, cleaned/wiped down, cables cleaned. Reassembly commencing at a snail’s pace which I’m perfectly happy with. Chopping peanuts to make some caramel peanut taffy apples, as well.

In all my years of watching football I just saw a play I've never seen before, the same player committing 2 turnovers on the same play. QB Jalen Hurts of the Eagles threw an interception to a Chargers defender. The Chargers defender who intercepted the pass then fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Hurts, who in turn, before he was tackled, fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Chargers. So Hurts was charged with 2 turnovers, one for the interception, and one for the lost fumble!
