Good for the roof. Roofers are nuts, but boy do they go. I've seen them go 630 am to 830pm in the summer.

So, it should be noted that there are yearly model changes, minor model changes, major model changes, and platform changes. I'm using Toyota terms, there may be different GM ones. A yearly model change is that it is basically the same car, but we don't want you to think that. The best one to think of of our years is the 71-72 change. They put paint on the headlight surrounds and an insert in the tail lights. Same car, but bolt-on and paint-on solutions. Next up is a minor model change. These are bigger bolt on solutions. A good one to think of is 70 to 71. Different hood, core support, fenders, bumper. More bolt on solutions. Maybe some minor body work, like 68 to 69s tail lights.

Then, we move onto a "major minor", which is just a big minor. Often, these are powertrain changes. Or some body changes. Think 69 to 70. Some flare line changes, all bolt on sheet metal changes, the 442 gets a 455. After that is major model changes. This is when the tub of the car is different. Like 67 to 68. Or, the entire platform changes. It is completely a new car. 63 to 64, and 72 to 73. However, it is worth noting that a platform change or a body change can still use the same powertrain parts and often do. A 73 442 has the same powertrain as a 72, even though they look differently.

For platform, the chassis remains close to the same for 64-72, so a lot of components underneath will carry over through very different looking bodies. This is the point, and it is how automotive companies keep cars looking fresh while remaining the same.

Hi guys,

New roof is on and the crew just left a few minutes ago. Pretty damn fast. I did a quick walk around and everything looks good to me except one minor thing. The new HVAC/furnace flue looks slightly askew, it might just be the way I'm looking at it. Dawn had to run an errand and is gone right now, but I'm gonna ask her what she thinks when she gets home. If she thinks it looks crooked I'll bring.it up with my contractor. They did a nice job cleaning up. The gutters/downspouts/fascia will be next and should be following along behind the roof in the not too distant future.

Walk around with a magnet on a stick, Chris, for roofing nails.

Edit - Yep, I was wrong, multiple sources say the rear track width for '67 and '68 Old's Cutlasses are the same!
You're forgiven. Greg, I had a friend years ago who used polygraphite, and his suspension squeaked all of the time. Good old rubber for me.

Saves on the manufacturing costs as well. Gotta apply some Home Defense around the perimeter of the house, along with Terro at strategic locations. I'm going to by some plastic totes for my weed n feed, and fertilizer that I keep in the shed, damn mice got into every bag, chewing big holes in them. Now I have piles to scoop up.

How many swinging dicks were on the roofing job?

John - Great suggestion, but I beat ya to it. I bought a wide magnet on a telescoping pole when we had the roof replaced 3-years ago. Last thing we want is a roofing nail in one of the dog's paws, or our feet.

Norm - I didn't count them. I'd say 8 to 10.

Chris awesome that they finished so soon. With that many guys on the job they didn't waste any time. They probably had another job to go to.

Norm good that you got your swing back.

Dan I left a bag of grass seed in the garage and it too has a hole chewed in it and seed all over the floor.

John someone brought a wheeled contraption to work, a rotating magnet that turns with the wheels when you push it. Gets up the nuts and washers that get dropped on the floor.

Got done with the doctor and went to Awful house. No other appointments on the horizon, but rest assured one will pop up sooner rather than later.

Work was okay, slow all day because my team kept screwing off. That means when the lead gets back we'll get lectured.

Have a great evening everyone!

12:10pm tee-time tomorrow. Last thing a roofing company will/should do is use a roller magnet around perimeter of home to capture fallen nails. They are made in many sizes. I'll mention they sell some really large industrial magnets most have likely never seen. They're towed behind vehicles on airport runways to remove FOD. Often making 3 -4 trips down a runway each day.

You have asphalt shingles? Those cellophane strips seem to land anywhere/everywhere for a couple years after a new roof.

Yes, asphalt shingles. The cellophane strips are everywhere, not just in my yard, but throughout the neighborhood because everyone has new roofs going on at the same time. I doubt there is a single house out of 137 that doesn't have a new roof going on sometime this summer. Like I said though, the crew did an excellent job cleaning up. But you're also definitely correct, they'll keep showing up for many moons.

Many years ago, a plant I launched was short a specific bolt. That line had a track for a production cart that gave them their air, power, data, and controlled the carts so it went in a straight line with the moving conveyor next to it. Stuff got dropped down the tracks all the time and fell on the floor half a meter down, below the "rabbit" which was the trolley in the track with all the connections. The line went down due to short bolts. The group leader got some maintenance guys, pulled up a plate, and started pulling up handfuls of the needed bolt into totes. They got a colossal pile, shut the floor back up, and set two or three folks with rags and solvent cleaning up the greasy, dirty bolts back to new condition, and kept filling the guy's cart so the line could run. The new bags of bolts arrived before they ran out.

Unfortunately, this earned them a cleaning bonanza that weekend under the deck as it was BAD down there, at least half a hardware store of bolts and grease.

Norm - These CertainTeed Architectural Shingles are what we chose to put on. We chose "Weathered Wood" (sample above the red check mark) because we wanted a color with Tan flecks in it to go with the beige Siding. That color also seems to make the Architectural design show up more, I don't really know why?

That particular cellophane is manufactured to be dissolved in H2O - not any time quickly, but it is designed to be dissolved in H2O.

I know of these "rabbits" & "trolleys" of which you speak. You can hear the old biddies yelping "Catch The Bunny Honey" as the greyhounds race down the track after the "rabbit" on the "trolley".

Hi everyone.

The lead is back and things were flying along, then all of a sudden things just fell flat. I guess the crew didn't think they needed to impress him anymore. I've actually got a respectable number for the day, so whatever else just adds to it.

When I had my roof put on I found nary a nail on the ground when the group left, though I did see hundreds of those strips. If they melt in water I should have just waited for it to rain instead of running around picking them all up.

The weather was showing that it would be raining right when I was going to out for lunch. I stayed in. I found out last time I went to lunch in the rain that I get soaked coming in from the car, since my good space gets taken when I'm gone, and I have to park way in the back of the lot. Might go tomorrow, if the forecast is better.

So after work I'm going to clean up the mess in the basement. I might have told you I got the engine and trans out of the Amphicar, and the other day I got the two separated. Well I leaned the engine over on its side and over night all the oil came out the dipstick tube. And when we go downstairs Tiger makes a point of walking through it. I've got oil dry down. He tries to eat it.

I need to check on my neighbor. He rebuilds alternators as a hobby and I gave him one for the diesel Suburban. The one that's in there now only charges to 12.9 . I don't think that's good enough.

Okay something is about to happen. Hope everyone has a good afternoon.

Chris, the color blind person likes your shingle choice. Speaking of forgetful (I am). I have a folder for the '72, it contains receipts from the previous owner, and a few that I have already added. Fed Ex delivered my sway bar today, and I grabbed the receipt, walked into the house to put it in the folder which is in the spare bedroom/records department. I KNOW EXACTLY where it's at. NOT! Spent about 15 minutes looking for it, as for some reason it's not where I left it. . I will resume my search after a bit.

Walked back into the records dept. and found it in 2.2 seconds. Go figure. So, I thought while I had those receipts in front of me, I would tally up what I have spent so far on the '72. I think I may need to sell some plasma or something in the future.

Glad you found your records! Anyway you look at it, owning a classic ain't cheap, especially for makes where aftermarket parts ain't cheap!

Good evening guys,

Had a full day today. Worked out in the morning and went out to mow a little after Noon. I had just mowed on Sunday, but it was supposed to rain again this afternoon and again tomorrow. Having mowed on Sunday, I was able to move the height adjustment down one notch which was nice. The skies started spitting at me almost from the get go. Not much though until the last ten minutes or so when it picked up, but I just kept going and got it all done.

Important day tomorrow, Dawn's and my 15th Anniversary! I think you guys know how I feel, but man is she a keeper! Looks, brains, and a work ethic like nobody's business. I definitely got the better end of the deal! I'm just praying for 30 more years with this incredible woman, I'm blessed!

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Good morning everyone.

Happy Anniversary Chris and Dawn! That's a cool mug. How'd she get the picture? Before I read that it's a mug, I thought it was a jar with the sand from the beach in it.

Three minutes to go and only a couple people here. I hope more people show up or the company will be paying me to nap. Today is my Friday. I took tomorrow off so -I- could go to the doctor.

If the rain holds off I'm gonna do yardwork this afternoon. I didn't get my mess cleaned up in the basement yesterday. I didn't have any way to scoop up the oil dry. I get derailed easily.

Okay hope everyone has a great day!

Congrats Chris, yes she is a keeper! I sure would like to meet you guys in person someday. Yesterday took a vet down to Ann Arbor. He was looking at sky and commenting on the jet trails. Called them "Chem trails". Said someone ads a chemical to the jet fuel and it goes out in the trails ... hmmmm. Well I got home and went on the net and sure enuff there is a conspiracy theory about that. Man how strange... Anyway he was a character to talk to- lives alone in a motor home in the old girl scout camp on the lake, 82 years old- lots of life experiences, a long trip but went by fast with all the talk.

Greg - The notion of chem-trails has been around for some time. Truly demonstrates the education of our population. Hard to keep up with all the changes in science past 50 years. Glad we finally figured out our planet is flat.

So you don't think chem-trails are a real thing for weather modification? Even though many states are trying to ban this practice? There are days here that you can clearly see the difference between chem-trails and con-trails behind planes in the sky. The con-trails are short and dissipate in a matter of minutes, the chem-trails never dissipate and actually spread across the sky. Not to mention when they appear in a grid-type formation.

Thanks Mike! She had already thought about doing it and just took her phone down to the beach with her to take the pic when she was done writing it. The tiny home we were staying in was literally only 40-ft from the water.

The weatherman was right, rain yesterday afternoon, thru the night, and this morning. So far, May has been just as wet as April! It's supposed to clear out by noon with some sunshine and 76°. We're going out for a nice steak dinner around 5pm. Nothing fancy, we both like Texas Roadhouse and it's only about 10-miles away.
