The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Also, I tried to post this earlier on the tire topic, I always buy Generals (since I get the company discount). Four reasons: price, treadwear, ride comfort, and noise. They have been better than every tire I have replaced, including the more expensive Continentals.
Jeff - That's good intel.
Ya, I remember that trick of tossing tarnished coins into Coke and letting them sit overnight when I was a boy and it definitely works. As a side note, I found a 1945 Wheat Penny in good condition yesterday, worth a whopping 15-cents. Still saving it for one of the grandkids though.
Jeff - I have had good luck with the General tires I've had in the past, they do make a good tire!

Mike, How's mom doing/? I'm fairly certain I've told this story a few thousand times. My dad always bought 3 new tires, took the band new spare put it on the ground and save the best older one for a spare. My 98 Chevy2500 4x4 has a new tire under the bed welded to the carrier in mud. Its never seen the light of day [and shouldn't now] totally wasteful
I have a small collection passed down to me from my maternal grandmother that consisted mainly of Buffalo Nickels, Liberty Dimes, Wheat Pennies, Silver Dollars and 1/2-Dollars, but nothing extremely rare or valuable except for a very nice 1812 Large Cent that is valued around $250 - $300 last time I checked. My Grandma also had a.bunch of.Confederate paper currency.
I had a flat rear tire on my 2003 F-250 diesel tractor in 2005. I knew the spare was mounted under the 8' bed but it took me damn near one hour to figure out how to remove it (thankfully I read the Owner's Manual as a last resort). Rather gnarly you have to have the special "key" (tool), located in the glove box, to insert through the bumper hole to crank down the spare tire. The following ryear I had a 4" lift installed and beastly oversize new tires & rims. The original spare still resides in the spare tire carriage below the bed. I wouldn't even be able to fit an upgraded rim & tire into the spare tire carriage.

the 1955 double die penny is worth$1,200 on average and up to $16K Uncirculated condition - I don't own a 1955 double die. What this means is the coin when printed/stamped was inadvertently double-struck at the mint/press - making those in circulation a very rare coin (until they caught the error at the mint).
Now, it's been a couple of decades, but I put Generals on my Toro, and was not impressed with them. Jim, you have a jukebox? I have a few of the 1964 Kennedy halves, a liberty dollar, an old large cent that has a nick on the date, making it less desirable, a ton of one dollar silver certificates, which, for the most part have liitle value because they made so many, making most, but not all of them worth a dollar. I keep them because I think that they are cool looking. Still waiting to stumble across a 1943 copper penny.
I grew up in the midwest (as most know; Chicago area). Summer of 1969 I was an exchange student in Europe. When we arrived @ the airport in NYC we were told the USS Kennedy was going to be in dock in Italy during our stay in Italy. I wasn't even aware the Italians loved JFK so much but many of my fellow students were buying rolls of Kennedy half-dollars; so, I did same. I bought one roll. We had a private audience (arranged by the mentors/tutors/chaperones/company - whatever) with the Pope at the Vatican. Mostly a bunch of pomp & circumstance. However, the Kennedy half-dollars were like freak'n gold coins. I bartered for kisses w/ the Italian girls who wanted one - by the playbook!
I have a bunch of old money. It isn't worth any more than face value but I like having it. I have an Eisenhower silver dollar that I think weighs 2 pounds. A few bicentennial quarters, a couple $2 bills, wheat pennies. That sort of stuff.
We worked up to the bell today. Don't know how many we got signed but I did 44, which is more than I usually get. The lead made such a big deal about not having enough tires through the four day weekend. I don't know if he realizes the tires can be deferred up to 10 takeoffs and landings once cord is showing.
Mom continues to improve. She still gets tired easily and feels a little weak, but she's been through a lot and is taking it easy. I don't mind telling you I was more than a little concerned this time around.
Car manufacturers most times don't even put a spare in the car anymore. They figure they can save money. I remember at the beginning of that they would charge $100 for a spare. Now they include a little inflater machine that would be useless if the tire blew out. Maybe all this was AAA's idea.
One month from today the days start getting longer. I can hardly wait.

Same thing with dook lock cylinders. There's one on the drivers door (hidden under the trim on most) but none on the passengers side. I guess due to all cars these days having a fob to work the locks.
I was becoming very disinterested in watching any more Netflix series as some of them seem to be too "contrived". However, last night I started watching El secreto de la familia Greco (The Secret of the Greco Family). Whoah...some wild (good) $hit.
I have some old coins of grandma's I need to go through. I have Indian Head pennies and similar.
My Tacoma's never used spare has given up the TPMS ghost after 15 years. I did scan the codes years ago and I have activated cloned TPMS sensors in the drive wheels, another set here in the house, and 2 for the spares, with all the latter in aluminum foil to keep the truck from seeing them. I have a spare set of rims, and two more for spares. I think I will retire (as in stop using) the old spare and keep it for a shop wheel and put a new tire and sensor on a pretty rim for a spare.
Jim - That's a great looking Ford F-150 Step-Side PU. Yeah, they stopped mounting the spare on Step-Sides years ago. Heck, they even stopped making a step-side to be honest. I really liked the step-side series of pickups.

Good morning everyone.
Break time. Have been zipping along today. Everything goes better when the lead isn't here.
No Jamesbo, I don't usually look at Bring A Trailer. Is it like ebay where cars are listed time and again until the seller gets what he wants? Or is it more on the up and up. I'd love to have another Amphi but at 100K, I'm far and away priced out.
The fob for the Saturn gave it up a long time ago. New battery was no help. So I unlock the door with the key every time. And the unlock button on the driver's door doesn't work so I have to reach across and push the passenger door unlock button if I want to get in the back seat. And the trunk button is giving it up and I have to press it a hundred times, because there is no trunk lock on the outside. Sheesh.
Going to Macon after work to look at a Chevy. Traffic going south has been absurd for months, no one I know who goes that way ever gets to the end of it, they exit before the traffic lightens up. So it's probably construction but holy cow give me a break. I'm going to take the "old" main route that runs parallel to the expressway.
So I guess this is Hump Day. We're starting at 4 tomorrow so we can get out earlier. Heck, we'd get out by 10 anyway how much earlier can we get out? How about we just stay home? Eh, no one asks me.

I've never cared for step side pickups. I understand how they came about and how they were first, but it seems like a waste of cargo space and you can stand on the tire if you need a step. I see no issue with a tire under a pickup bed with the exception of dirt. We have something called a sombrero unofficially on the line that is a spare tire beauty cover. Perhaps the tires just need covered.

I bought a '96 F150 that I was going to use the engine in my 56 F100. That was in about 2016 so 20 year old truck. Looked under the truck and saw a brand new- never used spare! Coool!! But it was flat. Went to air it up and was leaking air so bad it just hissed out. So looked at owners manual-How to get spare down....??? Found unused jack and handle under hood- Jack was so rusted that it was seized- tried to unseize it- no way. But handle was there for putting thru hole in rear bumper to let spare down.... Yep you guessed it-- gears on tire hoist all rusted- seized- So now what?? Ended up cutting cable to let down spare. Wheel was so rusted it was like a old burn barrel - Junk. . Ended up carrying a small hydraulic jack and another spare in box of truck for the 6 months or so I drove the old girl. My brother had a 80's S10 that he lost the spare- yep cable rusted off!!! A buddy of mine once found a big 8 lug wheel along side the road that he figured probably fell out from under a pickup. How would ya like to have one of those bounce out from the truck you're following at 70 MPH?? Yeah Michigan salty roads!!
The parallel route to Macon was a bust. I stopped at every red light, sat behind every slow and stupid person, and when I got to the town to get on the expressway, I sat for 20 minutes at a red light not moving because there was no place for the cars in front of me to go. This is what happens when you build a thousand new houses and condo's and still have the two lane road going through town. I think whenever someone goes to the town council with a proposal for new homes, the commissioners should have to go out in traffic in the afternoon.
So I didn't make it to Macon. Strike Two on the car, I'm taking that as a sign to NOT buy it.
Starting at 4 tomorrow. Maybe I'll make it to the Awful house before it gets light.
Okay have a good evening everyone.

Greg - I was out in the garage working today and took time to measure the tread depth on the Continentals that are on our Hyundai. There is a consistent 6/32's on the Fronts, and 8/32's on the Rears, at 41K-miles. I intend to rotate the rears to the fronts tomorrow and I should be good to go until next year at this time. Every vehicle wears tires differently, maybe your Acadia is just a little tougher on tires.
Mike, Ya should have at least gone to the BIG HOUSE https://thebighousemuseum.com/
Good evening guys,
It was sunny and 60° here today, so I got out to the garage to finish up the winterization of the 4-4-2. Put detailer on both sides, cleaned/polished the wheels, dusted/vacuumed the interior, and put clothes dryer sheets in the interior, under the hood, and in the trunk. Supposed to be nice out again tomorrow and it hasn't been run in a few weeks, so my plan is to start her up and drive it around the neighborhood and get it up to operating temp before putting it away again. I'll do that throughout the winter when we get breaks from the cold temps and snow. I will try to do it at least once a month if the weather cooperates.
Yesterday evening I watched that Gordon Lightfoot documentary that Keith told us was on Prime Video. It was a great documentary, especially the old video clips of him hanging with, and singing with his contemporaries from the 60's and 70's. I love artists that write all their own music and lyrics, and he was a master at both.
Activated our new Consumer Cellular service yesterday and it seems to be working great. Need to look up or call them about how to set up my voice-mail, but other that that, it looks like we're good to go.
Hope everyone had a great day!
